Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse Boston Reviews from The Last Year
It has been a long time since the Mrs.
and I spent the entire day in town, enjoying the city and doing a little shopping. Location wise, Davio's is conveniently located within walking distance from all the shopping on Newbury Street, and from the Prudential Center.Additionally, once the weather gets warmer, it's perfect walking distance to Boston public gardens. (Great way to walk off all the guilty pleasures of desert). Beyond a delicious meal, their service was second to none. From the moment, my wife and I stepped into the restaurant, we were treated as though we were VIP. The host was very kind and asked if he could take our jackets, which was nice to sit in our chairs without having our jackets getting in the way. Although we did not have a reservation, we did not have to wait long for a seat that day, and the bar was a great place to wait and have a drink. Love the popovers that they served before our meals. They were hot and chewy that we had to ask for another basket to enjoy. When our meal came, it looked like art. It was so beautiful. Beyond the fantastic appearance, each dish was amazing. The clam chowder and lobster bisque was sweet and creamy, with strong flavors of clam and lobster in each respective dish. We shared the Meatball, which we later found out that it's made from a special mix of veal and Kobe beef. The soft texture and flavor packed in this dish is something worth trying. Definitely I great place to come when in town. We will be back again soon.

I so enjoyed this restaurant during a business dinner that I decided to bring my other half with me for dine out. It was one of my favorites and now I'm telling others to go. The popover is such a nice start!
I can't say I was in love with my cocktail choices but all
I can't say I was in love with my cocktail choices but all the food options were absolutely delicious. It has been awhile since I have paid this much money for a meal but actually felt it was worth it. Steak was super tinder with a nice sear, lobster risotto had good size chunks in each bite, and the ravioli sauce was rich and creamy. All delicious.
Davio's is decent.
It's a place for people who live in the suburbs, or non-foodie tourists who want a reliable steak or decent Italian meal in a quasi-upscale environment. Fresh pasta and gluten free menu is a plus. This is one of the few restaurants within a short walk to the theater district - that was my motivation, and I think they are capitalizing on that. Some items are a hit or miss. My pasta was excellent but I would pass on the Doli martini (unfortunately). Also, they serve popovers as their bread.....which is not my favorite option to go with pasta.....but they were good.
From start to finish the experience was great.
a spacious, illuminated place, with a wonderful central bar. We ordered two different types of pasta, both delicious, the service was great, as was the dessert offering, it was a great place to go, and although we went for my wife's birthday, we will return whenever we are around. Finally I must recommend the house beer, excellent flavor and balance!
This was my go to restaurant for filet mignon, went today
This was my go to restaurant for filet mignon, went today for lunch, hardly anyone in there and it was so disappointing, steaks were chewy and not cooked how they were ordered, sadly won't be back!
Nice Italian restaurant in Boston.
Came here to celebrate a dear friend's birthday! This place is her fave restaurant in Boston. The bread is so yummy especially when it's right out of the oven!!! The food was delicious and flavorful too! Our server was attentive and did something special for our friend's birthday! What a great touch!! I would definitely come back to try other menu items.
We went there for Valentines pre fixed menu last night.
We have been here many times and expect the quality we pay for and they are famous for. Our waitress was attentive and ambiance was okay. I ordered lobster as my entree and it was missing claw meat and the crabmeat stuffing was imitation. I was shocked at this. It was filled with so much butter instead of lobster. The manager came by and joked it off and never rechecked to see if I received my claws. My husband got the steak and said it was good. I understand a pre fixed menu but there was one minute between courses which did not even give us time to digest. This was a 400 meal that was disappointing.
I can't say enough good about Davio's restaurant.
We sat at the "kitchen/bar" where we could watch all the impressive activity going on. The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance great. Not to forget the yummy pop-overs. As for the service, Zeke (the Manager), as usual, was helpful and very pleasant, our waiter, Craig and Rudolpho, were great too and in spite of all the orders and cooking and activity going on, getting one's food was very fast and efficient. and the staff organized to a tee....Cannot recommend or praise this great restaurant enough.
A lovely place to eat for so many reasons
I was very impressed with the food here - the beef carpaccio was the best I have ever had - and that is my favourite dish so I've had a lot of them! The service was stellar - people very friendly - and Maureen our server was engaging and attentive and kind. Really appreciate it.
Stopped here for dinner with a friend before seeing a show.
Service was friendly and attentive. The popovers are always scrumptious and the perfect way to start a meal. They had a holiday drink menu which was creative, I had the Christmas margarita which was very strong. We shared the chicken parm spring rolls to start which were absolute perfection. For my entree, I had the ricotta limoncello tortelloni. They accidentally brought out a half order of my pasta (pictured below) and brought me a second portion without charging me (and only making me pay for the half portion). It's an expensive restaurant, but the quality of the food, ambiance, and service definitely makes it worth it.?
Good
The right food. The service good. Spacious restaurant. There are plenty of options for both eating and drinking. We have not reserved a table and we have been able to eat without problems.
Solo dinner.
With 4:30p reservations This might be my 20th time at the Davio's chain. It ranks HIGH on my list of favorites. Please come here for an excellent diner. I learned alot tonite. Let me share. In this specific location, I was sat at what I'll call one of the 4 "limbo" booths. Walking in the venue they are to the right of the bar. They're disguised as restaurant tables - and they are- but my server is the bartender. When I sat at 4:30, said bartender was attentive. Now that dinner is over, there are roughly 35 people at the bar and I now feel ignored. Do NOT accept a table there!! After dinner, I had to ask a passing server for the Davio's signature popovers. Appetizer plates were never removed. Crumbs on the table were never cleaned (I believe this is a Davio's signature touch). I had to approach the host stand to ask to be served dessert. The food was-of course- absolutely delicious and Davio's gets 5 stars for its quality. The server- while I feel was (rightfully so) focused on her bar patrons- was very pleasant. The manager or lead was also very apologetic.
Out of this world
The food here was amazing. We ate here 3 times on a 4 night trip! We shared the Pasta mains by our choice and it was plenty for us. It was absolutely superb - all of it. We cannot wait to return next year.
Davio's offers, upscale Italian dining, in the heart of
Davio's offers, upscale Italian dining, in the heart of Boston proper, it's affluent Back Bay. It's close enough to the theater district to catch a meal before your show. Sadly, on the day we came for lunch, the service was very, very, very slow... Even though the place was empty. It took a half an hour for us to get our check, after we asked for it, and my friend was late for her doctors appointment. My friend dines there often, and claims this was atypical. I can only review my experience. I ordered the gluten-free pizza, and was pleasantly surprised to find it was pretty good. Keep your expectations realistic. The crust is gluten-free, and not gonna taste like Italian bread. But, it did taste like a chewy pastry bread. THE DEAL: if you're looking for some of the best gluten-free pizza in Boston, it might be at Davio's!
Been coming to Davio's since 2016 when our son started
Been coming to Davio's since 2016 when our son started college. Every visit to Boston meant a dinner there. Davio's had also become a day-after-Thansgiving tradition.THIS Friday after Thanksgiving, we had the worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. Upon arrival, the host could not find our reservation. Half of our party was already seated, but the hostess kept looking at the computer screen saying, "NO reservation." At that point my sister, who just finished chemo, goes walking around the large space, cane in hand and finally finds the rest of our party. I then said to the hostess, "That was ridiculous and rude. Just shaking your head no for 10 minutes. What an awful way to handle that." I did not raise my voice. As soon as we were seated, the manager on duty, STEVE, came over to our table sweating and ranting, saying I upset the hostess. He just kept reprimanding me, embarrassing me while I said nothing. My husband said, "She didn't raise her voice or do anything wrong. She just spoke sternly." The manager, STEVE walked away, then came back and insisted we leave the restaurant. 6 people. 7:30pm. The Friday after Thanskgiving. One person in our party wearing a chemo headscarf. Thank goodness my cousin, who lives in Weston has connections and got us a wonderful table at beautiful Mistral (Our new tradition.)
Perfect celebration experience. Quiet, Classy, and TASTY.
Excellent way to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It was our first dinner of a two week trip in New England and it really started things off with a bang. Great food, great help, great recommendations! ONLY criticism is with Open Table. I gave a lot of information on my reservation and apparently none of it was passed on. We were asked if we were celebrating and I told them it was our 40th anniversary. Davio's didn't seem to know that....but they toasted us with a flute of champagne anyway.
Just Wonderful
Another exceptional Thanksgiving at Davio's. Outstanding service, quality and quantity in spades on the busiest day of the year. Lovely wine selection at all price points. Full menu on offer in addition to the traditional turkey and all the fixin's with an all white or all dark option. The dark meat option was actually dark meat tied into a round roast...brilliant. Began with the house popovers and ended with chocolate lava cake. Priced as you'd expect for an experience of this caliber. Only 362 days 'til our next Thanksgiving visit.
A restaurant worth a detour during your stay
Restaurant worthy of mention. Impeccable service. My husband had an aged steak and it was beyond delicious. He is a master smoker and it is rare that he enjoys meat in restaurants and was amazed by his meal. For my part, the pasta was tasty. Even the bread served was worth the detour. We will definitely return there on our next detour to Boston. Once again thank you for the great experience.
Exceptional
We had a great dinner. We had a 745pm reservation, got there a few minutes before & were seated pretty quickly. We were seated at a bar able by the window which was nice. Our waitstaff (head waiter & assistant waiters) we’re attentive & polite. The drinks were good (our daughter loved the “mocktails”). The bread was AMAZING! Our dinners were perfectly cooked. The spaghetti our daughter got they said was homemade & was delicious. I got the 8oz filet and ordered sides - temperature done to perfection (I wish I had ordered a sauce to go on it though) & tasty. The lobster my wife got was exceptional. We were stuffed, but had to order desserts after seeing the display. As with the rest of the meal, they were terrific. Definitely a restaurant we’d come back to.
Excellent! Don’t pass up!
I never thought I’d love this restaurant so much that I am back for a second nice. I came last night with a party of eight for business. Food and service were absolutely magnificent. Everything that we ordered from our appetizers to the tower of seafood to the desserts were wonderful especially we had a great service. I definitely would have overlooked this place from my nearby hotel, but here I am having dinner here one more last time
Booking not working at all
I booked the table on specific time and when we arrived, we have been said there are three bookings before us to get the table. The lady was rather impolite and simply didn’t care. Badly managed arrangements - if you plan some event and it’s time- dependent, avoid this restaurant as they are not capable to plan their bookings (it was of course customers’ fault - they eat too slow…)

It depends how far out in the future your reservation is. If you posted a reservation hat was 2 months out, it’s unlikely many people will view your reservation. It could also be that your reservation is just not desirable.
