Some of best Italian in the area
The pizza was good, but the Arrabiatta was excellent. I love the location and the service was exceptional. It’s some of the better Italian food in the area.
Be the first to ReplySlightly overrated
The pizzas were fine, nothing spectacular. There are many more authentic tasting pizzerias in the Bay Area. I feel this is a bit overrated.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing, could be better
We used to go to the one in Cupertino, smaller, cozier and with Italian waiters. I am Italian and picky when it comes to Italian food, but have always enjoyed Doppio Zero. This was a very different experience - the place has a huge seating area outside and a ton of people. The atmosphere is frenetic. Our cocktails arrived at the same time as the appetizer (literally 2 minutes after ordering). I asked about the fritto misto and the waitress (Spanish speaker) had no idea but offered the "calamari and shrimp" (same thing and they used to call it the proper name). I did not hear Italian spoken by anyone (I am Italian). The pizza was good enough, but way too expensive - anchovies are $3 more?! What?! Two of us were celebrating a birthday and we shared the panna cotta (put a candle on it too). We did not get a complimentary dessert. (used to in Cupertino, we celebrated many birthdays there) The margherita description in the menu says there's parmigiano reggiano on it. Wait, what?! Speaking of parmigiana, they bring it to you in a SHAKER! What is it the Olive Garden?! Too bad, because there are only a few authentic italian restaurants in the Bay Area...this one has come too big and too Americanized. We won't be going back.
Be the first to ReplyMight have been Michelin but seems more like Applebees
We were really looking forward to a nice meal here. We had seen the high ratings for the pizza and have enjoyed quality pizza all over the US and Europe. And it might have been good even great but inexcusably poor service ruined any possibility of enjoying the food. The waiter was initially very attentive, even pushy to get our orders. We ordered drinks and even before the drinks arrived he was back at the table pushing for our dinner orders. I doubt even Applebees is so pushy to get out orders and turn tables. We should have been wary at this point. So we ordered starters, the Shishito peppers and the octopus. The peppers were very good. The octopus itself was chewy and tough because it was undercooked. We have octopus almost any time we see it on a menu, as well as making it at home occasionally, so can make that criticism accurately. But the salad with the octopus was very fresh and the dressing was delicious. So on balance we were pleased and only a slight minus on the cooking. Things went way south shortly after the starters arrived. The waiter came again and asked for our orders for the main course. We know sometimes in kitchens with wood fired ovens the line for pizzas can be long because they can't put so many in at once And it was a busy Saturday so figured maybe that is why he asked again so quickly. But my wife, only half joking, did say "watch it will be here in two minutes." And she was right! We were flabbergasted when they arrived at the table so quickly. It may not have been two minutes but it was less than four. We were so surprised that we neglected to ask for the accoutrements like piccante oil and cheese, but they weren't offered either. We needed to start eating the pizzas so we looked around for our formerly hovering waiter to get those items but he was nowhere to be found now. So now we are maybe 15 minutes from having been initially seated and our pizzas are sitting while we look around for help. Finally another server noticed the distressed pleas for help on our faces and came to offer assistance. Which she provided quickly! In the meantime though our pizzas were no longer anywhere near fresh from the oven. We'll never know how good the food would have been if had been served in an appropriate manner, like after our appetizers were at least mostly done. And given us time to relax a bit and enjoy our evening out and appreciate the food. In the end we'll say the pizza was not bad but we've had better at at least two places in the South Bay. And we certainly would not put it in the league with the other six places in The Top 50 US Pizza list that came out recently we have visited. I can't believe the Michelin inspectors that recommended Doppio Zero had a similar experience. Maybe our reaction would have been different if we had been provided professional, appropriate service instead of chain restaurant style push the table to turn it. Who can say? That's why two stars instead of one. But our Saturday night meal out was ruined. We headed home at least half an hour before we would have expected, uneaten and cold shishito peppers still on the table. And won't bother to come back.
Be the first to ReplyBest Pasta I’ve ever had!! A taste of Italy
I had the Delizia and it was hands down the best pasta I have ever eaten!!!! That coupled with a great beer!! Bellissimo Super friendly staff and great atmosphere.
Be the first to ReplyI am Neapolitan and I know all about pizza.
The pizza is great! If you are not Neapolitan or never been in Naples, Italy do not make stupid comments about this restaurant. Friendly people and very good service. Their pasta dishes are very tasty as everything else is served there.
Be the first to ReplyAlways on point!
Love the Doppio Zero pizza, which is bar none - great quality prosciutto, and the mozzarella melts in your mouth. Great selection of wines, and the service here is always friendly and fast. Other items to go for: polpettine, grilled octopus, rib eye steak.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable outside dining experience
Our server was friendly and attentive (but not too attentive). For example, we arrived before our friends and she checked back just often enough if we would like anything while waiting. We dined outside. We sat right below a heater which made the temperature comfortable. For appetizers, we shared brussels sprouts (just ok) and pera salad (also just ok). Our Dead Man's Boots and cucumber gimlet cocktails were both tasty and reasonably priced. The four of us all enjoyed our food. I had the squid ink pasta with clams and scallops. The dish had just the right amount of spice for me (i.e. some but not too much). The other 3 had branzino (whole fish, lots of bones, tasty but requires patience), salmon, and seafood stew. For desert we had the limoncello cake (good) and panna cotta (very good). Overall, an enjoyable evening for the four of us.
Be the first to ReplyNot sure about the hype for this place
Very average pizza. Truffle fries was good and the service is good. Ambiance is nice in downtown mountain view. They were able to accommodate a vegan pizza without cheese so that was nice. The crust was thick and chewy if you like that.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent
A little too frenetic music and noise wise but it was Friday night and I eventually didnt mind. Beautiful restaurant. Great service and great food
