Dorian Restaurant London Reviews from The Last Year
Beautiful restaurant and stunning food !
Absolutely fabulous restaurant in Notting Hill Beautifully appointed and provides an excellent vibrant atmosphere. Tables are pretty packed in but the noise in the room allows it to still feel intimate. Staff are excellent and clearly passionate about the food and wine. A mix of small , medium and larger plates allows for great choice and the opportunity to share if you want. Food quality was outstanding in terms of fish and meat. Excellent wine list with a price point to support most budgets. My only complaint if indeed it is a complaint is that we were encouraged/advised to order way more food than we needed. It was however our choice! Would 100% go back. Love the fact that there is a genuine a la carte menu and therefore no need to be forced down the route of a tasting menu!
Significant hand hygiene issues
Unfortunately sitting at the chef table/ the counter top allows observe of food being made but also hand hygiene of the chefs which I must say was absolutely terrible. One chef scratched his arm with his right hand and was rubbing his hair and used that hand to make and hold food. Another chef was bitting his nails and then was using it to prepare food the main chef was using his hands to prepare food and to move pieces of food after texting on his phone. There was no attempt to wash hand or sanitizer after that before food prep which really put me off the food as you could see their dirty hand touch and put food together after all those manoeuvres. The food was very good but unfortunately having observing what I did will put you off your food. The tuna tostada was beautiful strip off fresh tuna over a toasted circular crispy with a mini salad on the top- again a beautiful dish eaten in two mouthfuls. Rosti are potato triangle with apperance similar to a hash brown but tasted amazing with two mussles with a hollandaise looking coloured sauce with green bits in it and again a rocket salad to top the dish- again very good and eaten in two mouth fulls The skewer with 5 items of Green peppers interspersed wjth seabass, Langoustine and cuttlefish interspersed hanging over a mix sauce was also very good. Tasted great mixed with the sauce . The scallop was next which was more the start portion- one nicely charred scallop in a lovely creamy brown crab sauce was beautiful cooked. The liver parfait on toast was presented beautifully and tasted amazing and creamy. Three mouthfuls. The desert of Amalfi lemon and cherry tart was very good too. Would have been a 5/5 dining experience unfortunately ruined by the hand hygiene issue.
Highly recommended, top experience
Spectacular food, atmosphere and music on point. Cozy, welcoming place and fantastic service. The duck was truly a delicacy. To try
Not worth the hype, or the prices.
Came here for a lunch, late sitting at 2.45 pm. The place has a great vibe, live DJ and a superb looking bar. It took one hour for our food to arrive, which was bland compared to the prices that they charge. It is extortionately overpriced. The waitress explained to us that our food was late because we had ordered only small bites and not normal entrees. I've never heard such crap in my life. They had clearly screwed up the order and when they gave me the bill they didn't comp anything and had the audacity to add a service charge. On balance I don't think that this place is worth the hype.
Slowwww downnnn....
Right.... this is difficult. I love my food, i love London and I have been waiting for my trip to Dorian for some time... We picked a weekend in advance, first sitting in the evening, and we were rushed. Food-delicious, nothing against the chefs (they really do deliver wonderful food); service- great overly attentive; experience- annoyingly rushed, this is where the experience was let down... It is sad because it is so easily fixed, just slow it. We asked to slow the food down, so we can enjoy the pace of life and it worked... Definitely worth a visit, order early, ask them to slow down and enjoy a wonderful meal.
Not pleased
Booked in by my daughter for lunch as she likes hip places with Michelin stars. Ordered food at 1215 and finally received entrees at 1.55 having been assured ca 1pm that the food was 'on its way' - which it was, about an hour later. The place was noisy and packed, full of the usual Notting Hill crowd - untidy people who are sufficiently overpaid to cope with the very high prices of this establishment. Loads of wait staff do not improve the experience of a place where the tables are so close together that one waiter managed to drop a drinks tray and splashed our table in the process. After watching people on either side getting their food (notwithstanding having ordered ours first) I was eventually surprised by someone from the kitchen telling me what I had known for nearly an hour - namely that there had been a screwup in the kitchen. When the food came it was fine but nothing special and I noted that one of the entrees was tepid having clearly sat on the pass for some time. Eventually the very large bill came and I noted that about forty pounds of drinks had been comped. What annoyed me about the whole experience was the absence of any proper apology and the miserable comped element. I am accustomed to dining at good restaurants and I would say that this was quite the worst - and one of the most expensive - experiences I have had in ten years. Looking at other reviews I see that my experience was not untypical. I imagine the smug individual in chef's whites who 'explained' the scrap in the kitchen was the owner.
Not all that, and overall there is definitely room for refinement
Not all that, and overall there is definitely room for refinement. All three of our starter plates (both hot and cold) were brought to the table at rapid speed even before we had had a chance to order wine. We had to ask them (twice) to stop bringing food to the table before our wine arrived so we could enjoy our food with our wine. The wine selection was excellent and the turbot we ordered was very well cooked, but it was not the smooth and enjoyable environment that you would expect from a michelin starred establishment, and a bit of a madhouse with staff rushing around. We also had a huge number of different people take our orders/talk to us about wine so it was hard to know who to communicate with about our meal/drinks. I hope when we return in the future it's found itself and a has a more enjoyable atmosphere
Good food shame about the owner
Food was good, but massively overpriced. Staff overall were decent and attentive. I then had the misfortune of meeting the owner who was clearly on a different planet to the rest of us! He started off nice as pie, but the veneer wore off very quickly when I told him we had been charged £25 per head for our two guests who couldn’t join us for the meal. That changed his demeanour instantly and he proceeded to tell me how he had far more important customers than us who spend thousands, and we should be lucky to be there. Joker. Surprised anyone goes back there given the owners behaviour, attitude and clear intoxication.
Delicious lunch in an exciting venue
We loved it . The food was fantastic. We spent £160 excluding drinks for 2 people , we left feeling full. I would recommend sitting at the bar so you can view the chefs do their work . Staff were very friendly and professional. We would definitely go again . Highlights were the liver parfait , scallop french toast and the various rosti's. Lunch was a good time to go by the way
Most unfortunate treatment by restaurant staff
We had a 11.45am booking and I rang ahead to ask what time the restaurant would open and the gentleman on the phone tells me 11.30am was their first booking. We naturally made the assumption that the opening time was 11.30am. We arrived a few minutes after 11.30am only to be told they weren’t quite ready. We said not a problem at all but were told to come back in 15 minutes. We asked very politely if we could just wait in a corner somewhere as it was raining but were given instant death stares by the manageress and her adjunct. The gentleman then decided to give us a hard time for turning up at 11.30am and said they were just not ready for us. I swiftly reminded him that I rang ahead to ask what time they opened and he himself said to me their first booking was at 11.30am. Had we misunderstood? We didn’t say anything more and very politely enquired if we could have a table instead of counter seats. We were the only two customers in an empty restaurant but were given a table right in front of the main entrance. I asked if we could possibly have another table for two in the corner but was informed by the manageress “that’s not how things work here” which I assumed meant NOT IN THIS LIFETIME. She then proceeded to inform us that we had booked counter seats and NOT a table. I checked my confirmation email as well as the website of the restaurant and found that it was not possible to specify whether one wanted a table or just seats at the counter. It was clearly a fib designed to get us to back off. I didn’t wish to get into yet another unpleasant exchange because we realised immediately what the main issue was. We both sensed rather distressing vibes/undercurrents from the staff which we attributed to the fact that we were of the wrong skin colour. This would have been our second visit and we sensed it the first time round already but said nothing at all. We had thought we were just being sensitive. The management made it abundantly clear in more ways than one that given a choice they would rather not have our custom. It all became a tad unpalatable given the exchanges so I then made a decision to just leave and cancel our reservation only to find that they weren’t planning to refund the deposit until I made a point in ensuring it would happen right in front of me and not have to take a leap of faith. I never bothered to write a review after our first visit as the food was infinitely better than the service. Any review would have done a huge injustice to the kitchen. As this was a second visit it would be remiss of us not to call a spade a spade. We visit 4-6 restaurants a week and we cannot recall having had a similar experience elsewhere in any part of London. Just most unfortunate.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
