Avoid
Poor food. Poor welcome. Cold home fries. No apology. The food arrives way too quickly. It is average at best. Nice ambience but the food and service is poor. Seems like no one really cares in NY anymore about service but they care enough about the tips! NY and itโs horrible tipping expectation for service that is generally not good any longer. Avoid.

Aside from the fries, just not good food. Avocado always rock hard, challah bread awful, fresh fruit is a day old. Good for kids and pancakes.

Uncannily consistent terrible place - from the rudeness of reception to a manager who โdoesnโt give a damnโ (his words literally) to really bad food. Do they set you up to expect โbadโ and the deliver โworse.โ Now that takes talent. Too bad they donโt use it for better service and better food. I must admit the waiters are harried so Iโm giving them a pass. I know there are long lines but PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE if you like yourself and the others in your group.
Be the first to ReplyEJ's is no longer a mere Luncheonette; You've come a long way guys!!!!
This UES "luncheonette" is now the place to go when you're looking for home cooked, full meals, light bites (they're even large portions!) breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, desert, whatever. EJ's now has 3 separate outdoor seating areas since the pandemic. This is a neighborhood place with lots of regulars that's always welcoming to tourists. You can sit at the counter which you don't see much of in NYC and it's a great way to enjoy your meal and chat with locals. The food is fresh, it does get busy on weekend mornings and evenings because it's a great place for real food that's made to order just as you'd like.

Food ok. But the waiter was rude and brusque as was the lady who seemed to be a manager of some kind. Rushed us out as soon as we finished eating. Not nice. Been going here for 20 years but this would put me off returning.

Started outdoors on a beautiful day but the fellow with whom I had a lunch date preferred indoors so he picked a table at the front and we moved there.....it was 11:45am so we could do that. I had a terrific hamburger. He had a terrific BLT. We sat and talked for an hour. TERRIFIC. I always knew EJ's was there but never went before as I'm not one for breakfast or lunch very often
Be the first to ReplyDiner food with a twist!
Weโve dined here twice outside in the past week and found the food good and the service efficient. Itโs diner food, but slightly more upscale and more varied than some places. You can order all the eggs and bacon you like, plus pancakes and sandwiches galore. But they also have dinner specials like theThai chili chicken salad my spouse ordered and the Greek chicken salad with greens, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, feta, and olives. His salad came with a choice of soup, and the chicken tortilla was a sizable bowl. It was very good and the tortilla pieces were not soggy! On our first visit, we enjoyed Caesar salads with grilled chicken. Portions are large to huge so you wonโt leave hungry!
Be the first to ReplyNice neighborhood standby
We sat outside for brunch. We had an excellent chicken tortilla soup and a very good grilled salmon salad with corn lettuce, tomatoes and so on.
We also had eggs with toast, bacon and home fries.
This is a very good neighborhood standby.
Upper East Side Authentic Diner
Real diner far from the crass places around Times Square. Friendly staff and local patrons make this a delightful adventure. Only complaint..no Diet Coke!
Be the first to ReplyFavourite place to eat would visit again and again
Friendly place to go eat, local diner with great choice. Staff really helpful and we had questions on what things were on a menu and they brought out other options for menu just incase we didnโt like what we had ordered ( we did, was delicious!) it was proper American homemade food, servings are good size and the staff couldnโt do enough for you. Enjoyed our first visit so much we went back two days later. Wish we had visited for the breakfasts, but gives an excuse to go again. An amazing American dining experience!

While this place is a but pricey, the food was absolutely delicious, and they make awesome grits. I don't mind paying a bit more for good food, I'll be back. Kitchen is out in open so you can watch them cook.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious breakfast in a warm friendly environment
We had a delicious breakfast here on a chilly November morning and enjoyed every part of it. The old diner feel, the warm and welcoming staff and the food which was some of the best pancakes and French toast we have tried.
This was well worth the trip from Brooklyn to try and we will come back again on our next visit to NY.
Tip: if you order the pancakes or French toast pay the money to get the good quality maple syrup. Worth every cent!
Good friendly service - Good food
Went in to Ejโs just before the lunch rush. My daughter and I grabbed to seats at the counter. Our waiter at the counter was great. Friendly, attentive. Constantly making sure we had filled water glass, soda glass, napkins or anything else we might have needed.
I had a chicken Ruben with fries. Never had a chicken Ruben before. Always a corned beef Ruben. Really enjoyed it.
Would definitely return. Looking forward to trying some of their breakfast dishes.
