El Presidente Washington Reviews from The Last Year
SUCH a fun spot, great food, awesome/cool drinks, and worth
SUCH a fun spot, great food, awesome/cool drinks, and worth the hype! the ambiance and the drinks were a highlight for me! we went on a sunday and they had a dj (though it was cinco de mayo so not sure if that's a regular thing or not). it's more of a party for brunch, on the louder side, but really great energy and super fun spot to go with a group of friends! our server was so lovely and you could tell he was also having a great time! the drinks were a highlight for me; not only were they presented in super fun ways but they also tasted great! the Pinã Pinã is the drink that comes in the shark cup; it's rum based and pretty strong. we also got the Cocina Sink, which is like a "fishbowl" kind of drink. also tasty and strong! we only had a few bites to eat, the Queso Fundido de Chorizo, which was amazing, and the Guacamole, also fantastic!! it's a really fun and very unique spot that i think is perfect for a fun brunch or exciting date night!
This place has a great ambiance.
I wasn't crazy about the food. We had agauchile and the branzino. They were ok, not the best we ever had. I recommend coming during the week. Friday nights are super busy and service is a bit slow.

Let me start by saying you are better off booking a reservation than walking into this establishment, but boy when you do get it-- it is quite lovely. The ambiance is very romantic and the lighting, aesthetic, and vibes were on par. 10/10 to the designer. Now for the food, I had the cucarachas and nachos as a starter. Man-- the shrimp with that hot sauce. Delicious and delectable! The nachos were also great and tasted like a Mexi-melt from Taco Bell, but in a good way. For entree, I had the barbacoa tacos which were more than enough and very delicious. I loved the various array of salsas that came with it. If you are in the DMV, you must visit this restaurant! I'm from Texas and will say this Mexican food is top notch authentic!

The drinks were delicious and the ambiance is nice! The server was attentive and pleasant. The Queso Fundido appetizer was just okay. I was expecting way more flavor since this is a Mexican restaurant. Not authentic at all. It was just cheese and chorizo baked in a cast iron pan, served with tortillas and a green tomatillo sauce. The sauce made the dish better. I decided not to order an entree. Get the pineapple margarita it was refreshing and packed a punch...

I was really excited to try this place and have now been twice. I have NO PROBLEM spending money on food but to me El Presidente is extremely overpriced for what you get. $13 classic marg out of the tap that took me about 4 sips to finish b/c I saw how they make it and there literally could not be more ice shoved into a small glass. Not worth it! Got the salsa and chips and the salsa container is like a side of ketchup, you cannot even dip the chip! Everything is just "fine", nothing spectacular which makes me very sad to say. Really wanted this to be a go-to spot near my house and love most Starr restaurants. Sadly, I would rather go almost anywhere else for mexican b/c it is just not worth the money. I also think this feeling will be felt more and more by locals. Hope it gets better and they focus more on the quality of food and price.

finally crossed @elpresidentedc in NoMa off my list & the nacho mama lived up to ALL the hype loaded with melted queso mixto, black beans, ranchera salsa, sour cream, pickled red onions, jalapeño and a margarita pitcher to split we opted for tacos and enchiladas for our meals: I got the BLACK COD AL PASTOR morita aioli, limey cabbage, grilled pineapple -- which were really good (but slacking on the cod portion), Kira had the SONORAN FILET grilled beef filet, queso mixto, salsa verde, chimichurri, cherry tomato pico and Polly enjoyed the SHRIMP ENCHILADAS red chile-shrimp sauce, crema, shaved fennel, thai basil we sat on the patio on which ended up to be a chillier day and the management did not accept our request to move inside or close-in the patio area from winds until the very end of our meal -- we would of loved to stay for another round of drinks, but were simply to cold and wanted to head out Overall, come for the nacho mama and a pitcher of margarita, but I find there is better value at other dc restaurants for some tacos and/or enchiladas
El presidente was just okay for brunch.
Cool ambiance for sure, but the food was meh and the service could've been better. With a moderate to upscale price point and small portions, I was expecting the food to be good. The food took awhile to come out and they mixed up our orders a few times. I liked a few dishes though-- the tortilla soup was a highlight, and the side of elote corn. I had heard great things about the mahi mahi tacos but they tasted like they were frozen fish sticks and lacked flavor. My sister didn't love the huevos rancheros either. Normally I love churros but these churros were doughy, had an off flavor, and the sauces that came with didn't complement them. If I come back, I would want to try the nachos, one of the seafood tostadas and the cocktails-- all those looked good. Come for the ambiance but don't expect amazing Mexican food.

Really, really fun and unique atmosphere! The staff was friendly, and this is a GREAT place to bring someone from out of town to impress :) The cocktails were good but could be better (I'd stick with a classic margarita), but they're still pretty solid. The food, though, was way better than expected! I usually think that if a restaurant is really aesthetically-pleasing, the food may just be so-so. That isn't the case here! All of the food was so good! The queso had the perfect flavor, the fish tacos were fried perfectly and seasoned so well, the duck tacos were unique and very tender, and the BYO steak tacos were awesome. The star of the show, though, were the chicken enchiladas which were incredible!
Excellent spot.
The Guac with crab was probably my favorite. The pitcher of margarita was perfect before my flight out. The tenderloin tacos were ok....did I say how good the margarita was? Excellent service. Can't wait to go back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at El Presidente in
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at El Presidente in Union Market. My husband and I love exploring new spots in the DMV. We started with the macho nachos and virgin margaritas. Then we shared the chicharon red snapper and 4 sides including grilled broccoli, black beans, fried plantains, and elote Mexican corn. We then had the tres leches and coffee for dessert. The service was 5 stars as we noticed our waitress was busy with all of the small and large tables in our section but was very attentive. The location itself was gorgeous in the new area of Union Market. It was clean and classy and had a fun Latin vibe. The bar area was large, beautiful, and breezy and probably really nice during brunch. It was filled with young professionals and also a mature crowd. My husband and I did notice that the table next to us ordered both the red snapper and do it yourself shrimp tacos and were overwhelmed by the portions. It's really fine to share an appetizer and one entree with a ton of sides for 2 people. So many different options to choose from. We spent less than $175 on this 3 course meal which was pretty good for DC on a Saturday night! If you miss visiting Miami, this is probably the closest you'll get to it in the DMV. We plan on trying all the other spots in Union Market especially St. Anselm. Check it out!

I came here for a work meeting/lunch with my Director and colleagues of mine. First off, as soon as I walked inside... I was floored by the decor. It was such a vibe! It reminded me very much of Miami. Service by the waiter was curt but attentive. He explained the menu and gave recommendations. I went with the carne asada tacos with a side of rice. The steak could be more tender but the sauce was what wowed me. Whatever is was... it made the tacos! Portions were on the smaller side but it could be because we came during lunchtime. Their chips and guacamole were delicious and had a nice kick to it. Didn't want to drink over a work meeting but did take a peep at the drink menu and it all sounded so enticing. Will come back again for dinner and drinks one of these days!

The food and drinks were excellent! I went there for lunch one day I had tacos with the black beans. The restaurant had an authentic feel of a Mexican restaurant in Mexico. The service was excellent as well the staff was on point and they worked as a team. I had three people taken care of my needs while I was there. For example if my glass was empty some was on the spot refilling it. Great place I will be back!
Stopped in Sunday afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner
Stopped in Sunday afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner and I can't wait to go back. Love the decor & what a surprise to find so many tables. The margarita was mixed well and tasted fresh, the chicken tacos were delicious as was the street corn. Server was attentive, friendly, and helpful. Seems like a popular brunch spot and place for celebrating special events like birthdays and anniversaries.

10 out of 10 out of 10!! BRAVO!!! El Presidente has been in my watch list for a while and my goodness, I was left so impressed and wanting more! We had a reservation but we got there early and were able to get a seat at the bar until our table was ready. We had the Picante Mami and man, it's good! I was expecting something overly spicy but it has just the right amount of kick that paired well with the light sweetness of the drink. Needless to say we had quite a few of those that night! For dinner, we had the macho nachos (didn't snag a photo), the duck tacos and enchilada suizas. The nachos were the STAR of the night! I mean, I would never think to pair chorizo, pickled onion, cheese tomato's, crema etc but we couldn't get enough! My husband loved the crema and even asked to take some home lol. We are planning to go back next week just for the nachos! Delish! The enchiladas suizas were rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. It wasn't heavy like you would think and it was just a great dish! The duck tacos were delicious as well but if I'm being honest as good as they were, they needed something spicy on it. I just was expecting a little extra kick and it feel just a bit short but don't get it twisted -- I'd still eat them again! The restaurant itself is so well decorated and is perfect for a date night or a girls night! It was just the perfect vibe for our anniversary! We can't wait to go back again next week for more!
If you're looking for a nice place to impress your friends,
If you're looking for a nice place to impress your friends, family, or a date- El Presidente is it! The vibes are immaculate as far as interior goes. I've come a few times now and the food items that stand out to me the most are their seafood items. The aguachile verde is a must get item and I love both versions of their shrimp tacos. Another must order item is their Mexican street style corn- but off the cob! Make sure to order a prickly pear margarita which is an off menu item, but it can be hit or miss depending on who makes it. Although service is always pleasant, it can take awhile to get your food and drink orders in on busy days.
One of my go to spots in DC for sure! Great drinks great
One of my go to spots in DC for sure! Great drinks great food in a wonderful ambience! I for sure recommend this for people that are looking for a spot to wow visitors! My go to is always the nachos and street corn! I have been there minimum twice a month since its opening. I have only had one instance for my service wasn't the best, but I spoke with Mr. Hector and he got it solved for me!

Really enjoyed our dinner here! Great addition to union market, good food, good drinks, tables are not too close together. Service was great, our waiter was great and attentive.
We enjoyed our dinner here very much.
El Presidente has a classy, upscale feel. We ate inside, but the outside eating area is very attractive, too. We loved our entree. It was the fried snapper. There were a number of individual fried bites that were absolutely delicious. We also found quite a bit of fish on the rest of the fish, which was served to sort of create a resting place for the bites--making a beautiful presentation. For an appetizer we had the tuna ceviche. It was good, very rich in a coconut sauce. But next time we'll try the guacamole, which looked great. Also, we had margaritas that were excellent & quite potent.
This was a meh for me.
The bar was fun looking, but I was expecting great ambiance. The dining room was just okay ambiance. They had big clunky wooden chairs like you'd find at a very basic Mexican place. The menu was also very pedestrian. Tacos, nachos, enchiladas. Everything tasted pretty good and the server was very nice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there again.

Color me surprised, I thought this place would be overhyped but my first visit was great. The decor and atmosphere inside was lovely. Our server was super attentive and helpful. The queso was to die for!!!! You must get it! The guac was failed standard but particularly fresh. The server helped me find a less spicy dish for my taste. I enjoyed the chicken enchilada dish. My friends loved their food too. I would recommend.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
