A gem
The service in this beautiful historic and beautifully located hotel could not have been better. Professional as well as friendly and accommodating, they made our stay a lovely experience. Our room was spotlessly clean and white despite being blessed with old beams, the views lovely despite rainy weather. The quibbles - not very good reproduction furniture - swept away by a very nice overall ambience and impeccable service.
Be the first to ReplyPride of Cheltenham NOT
I was bought a spa package for my 60th birthday, it was a top price package with truffle and champagne facial. On arrival the spa was extremely busy and we soon learnt it was a race meeting weekend. Toilets were disgusting, laundry bin in changing room was over filling. No available beds around the pool area due to wet towels and dressing gowns. I asked someone if I could use a bed as it had been unoccupied for 20 minutes but was sharply told it was needed. The treatment however was lovely but the room was not. The jacuzzi was cloudy and seemed to be out of action. When I asked the receptionist he came and pressed the buttons which we had been doing forc15 minutes and walked away with the jacuzzi still showing no sign of bubbles. I had a glass of wine in the reception area and was told I would not be allowed in the pool area, considering we had clearly given up on the spa area I was handed a cloudy plastic glass , to which I refused and ask fir a glass, much to the receptionist annoyance. The Greenway has always been considered one of the best of Cheltenham but I can honestly say it is now considered a disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyThe Greenway afternoon Tea - the perfect celebration
Following a funeral service at the Cheltenham Crematorium we wanted somewhere to escape, reflect a little, relax, and enjoy a small family reunion. The ask was simple: log fires, a few drinks in stylish surroundings, and a sumptuous afternoon tea. We settled on the Greenway. Booking was easy, we were expected on arrival, ushered into a lounge (with a log fire - hurrah), drinks order taken, followed by various family toasts. Tea was announced and we were shown into a private room with dining table all set. And then the food arrived. I can't do it justice here but suffice to say it was delightful, imaginative, plentiful, beautifully presented, and delicious . The choice was wide and satisfied three different generations. The service was exemplary; friendly, courteous, efficient and timely. And, they boxed up what we didn't finish and two parties talked endlessly about the afternoon on their train back to London - much to the amusement of other passengers as they tucked in to their tuck box. Value for money? 'Absolutely' on every level. I can't thank or recommend the staff enough. Next time I need to stay in Cheltenham - there is only one place I am heading. The Greenway. Bravo!
Be the first to ReplyHigh quality
We were there over Xmas and Boxing days so our deal was a "package". We did not use the Spa. The staff at all times were cheerful and efficient, and it was super to have our room made up while we had breakfast ! Our bedroom (no. 1) was spacious, with good bathroom facilities, a very comfortable bed and a very efficient central heating system. Also very welcome were the number of power points, including USB connections. A small bottle of fresh milk was a nice touch for tea/coffee. The hotel is a converted very old manor house with extensive grounds, and it is very peaceful as it is well back from the road. The food is excellent and the service impeccable. This is not a cheap hotel but it is of a very high quality. We will be back !
Be the first to ReplyFantastic, Elegant and Charming!
Currently staying at this hotel and I’m blown away by the beauty of it. A Stunning building that boasts luxury; with a Rustic fireplace, grand lounge and friendly staff on arrival, with Laura being a warm, kind and excellent host. Booked the Manor four poster room and Classic room (Ash and Oak) and both are fantastic. When booking the room, James, Laura and Madaline were very helpful, answering all my questions and requests for the room including; rose petals on the bed, afternoon tea in the room and a celebration truffle plate. The small touches like a personalised letter, fruit and Biscotti, alongside the freindly housekeeping staff checking in to see if we needed any more tea, coffee etc. were lovely to see and elevate this stay to above most 5* hotels!! Cannot fault the service! Both rooms aren’t done justice by the photos on the website, being much larger and filled with character (as the photos show). Very clean and comfortable rooms/beds, excellent amenities and delicious food from the restaurant. All staff are welcoming and and facilities are beautiful, surpassing my expectations. I’ve stayed in many luxury/ 5* hotels across the UK and this is quite possibly the best. Will definitely be returning and recommending to freinds/ family. Just cannot wait for breakfast now 😊
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding experience!
A friend and I have just had the best time at this hotel. We were celebrating my friends 60th birthday and this was the perfect experience. The service, food, bedrooms and facilities were outstanding. The beautiful old house has been sympathetically restored and the decor and furnishings were entirely in keeping with the age of the house. The location of the house has wonderful views of the stunning countryside which surrounds it. Can thoroughly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, but okay
There are lots of good things about this hotel/spa - the spa facilities were lovely (indoor pool, sauna, steam, outdoor hot-tub), rooms recently renovated, amazing grounds and good (if expensive) food. As others have noted, this hotel is expensive - almost £600 for room and breakfast - for a room that overlooks the spa courtyard (which is quite loud since club members come in to use the hot-tub). However, we turned up to find that our spa appointment that we'd booked had actually been made for the following month. They managed to squeeze us in, but it was super stressful. Additionally, the wifi in our room just didn't work (room 25). It worked in the hallway outside, but as soon as the door closed there was no service. Finally, about 3am, we woke up to water leaking from the ceiling. We managed to put a garbage pail underneath to catch the drips. But it's hard to justify the price.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday celebration break
Absolutely brilliant break at this venue, staff were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. Our room was very comfortable, quiet and clean and service was first rate throughout our stay. We ate in the restaurant each evening and the food and service was 5star. Perfect location for exploring Cheltenham and surrounding area
Be the first to ReplyLovely stay. Sensational food!
We stayed here for a night in a Feature room and had dinner and breakfast. The room was spacious, clean and elegantly decorated with a huge bath. The staff were helpful and friendly and we used the spa facilities which were relaxing, comfortable and clean. The pool was small but warm with jacuzzi jets. However the real highlight of our stay was dinner. We had a 3 course meal - the flavour was superb for every course and the portions were a good size. As an addition, we loved the homemade orange biscotti in the room and the turn down service was a lovely touch. Breakfast was also delicious, especially the homemade granola and fruit. This was a lovely hotel for comfort, offering spa and country walks (Crickley Hill nearby had gorgeous views) but the meals were truly outstanding!
Be the first to ReplyThe Perfect Wedding Day
We had our wedding here, it was the perfect day. The hotel is set in beautiful countryside with rolling hills behind it and gorgeous gardens around the historic building. The staff are exceptional and couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was superb and everyone enjoyed everything in the wedding breakfast. All was beautifully presented and nothing seemed to be any trouble, especially in relation to the Lavender Lodge, which is perfect for elderly or disabled guests. Our disabled daughter was impressed by the staff being so gracious and accommodating to make her as comfortable as possible. The bedrooms in the hotel are spacious and sumptuous and exquisitely decorated. Highly recommended, particularly for weddings.
Be the first to ReplyLovely room but dinner was overpriced
Lovely room but very expensive stay. £344 for room, b&b - breakfast was lovely. It was the dinner which let it down for us. There was a choice from 5 main meals - we don’t eat red meat - there was ox or pork, cod, risotto and aubergine. My husband chose cod, I chose the aubergine. We love fine dining so we’re not surprised when the starter of “tiger prawns” turned out to be one prawn. I was however disappointed that the aubergine consisted of one slice of aubergine and was almost inedible salty (I usually like salt). The dessert was delicious - but the whole meal was not worth £56 per head, with pre dinner drinks and a bottle of wine dinner cost £150 - not to mention the £42 “service charge” added on to the bill. With a couple of afternoon drinks totalling the bill to over £600 it an experience, but one we won’t be repeating.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday surprise
Took my mum for her surprise 70th birthday. Rooms were perfect and the food was amazing. There were 20 of us, and we used the private dining room which was perfect for us. The staff that evening couldn't do enough for us. Would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyOur own dining room
We have just returned from a wonderful stay. We had high expectations as it wasn’t cheap but what amazing value for money. Everything was of lovely quality, bed linen, cutlery, table cloth and carpets. The staff were all extremely friendly in particular our lovely waitress this morning (5th March). We had our 2 dogs with us and they were treated like royalty, they had their own beds, food and water bowls, treats and toys, our puppy is obsessed with his toy, Thankyou. As we had dogs we could not eat in the dining room with the dogs understandably, but this ended up such a bonus, they had an individual table set up in the lounge for dinner and breakfast and our own personnel service, it was like we had our own personal dining room and it made a lovely trip into a really unforgettable one. I could continue to wax lyrical about the beautiful building, grounds and antiques and the fact that they even go into your room while you are having dinner and prepare your room for bed, a lovely touch indeed. A wonderful wonderful night, can’t recommend enough and can’t wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyNo women only toilets in main hotel.
Today I had lunch in the bar with a friend . Nice country house hotel . I was sad to see in the main hotel they no longer have a women only toilet . There’s a men’s , next to it what was women’s had a large piece of paper over word women. Typed on was unisex. I wonder if women’s changing room in spa or unisex and men ?
Be the first to ReplySpa building works disruption
Despite booking quite a way in advance, we were disappointed to find on arrival that the Spa was closed due to building works (which were visible and noisy). We hadn't been contacted as "our details had not been saved by reception" - although original booking was via email. We had treatments, which were amazing - hot stone massage & facial. Building works did seem to quieten during this time, not sure whether for us (as we were the only people there, which was slightly uncomfortable) or a coincidence. At our suggestion, we were given a gift voucher to go back for the Spa time which was originally part of our booking/deal, presumably when the hot tub has been rebuilt! Payment terminal in Spa broken so were walked through the hotel to the main reception. Receptionist dealt with bad situation well. A shame as the unexpected building works disappointingly spoilt what would have otherwise probably been the perfectly relaxing occasion we were hoping for.
Be the first to ReplySpa Visit followed by Afternoon Tea in the Hotel
Spa Visit - Enjoyed a relaxing four hour spa visit using the pool but not the other facilities, included was a back & shoulder massage which was really good. Both staff & other visitors were very polite & friendly. When booking & ordering drink/food make sure you are very clear with what you want & when. The light snack ordered was delicious & reasonably priced. Everywhere was very clean & tidy, the lockers were confusing so don't worry about asking for help, shampoo & conditioner were provided though not body wash (I know it's often hair & body wash but that's not this time). Would happily return. Afternoon Tea - The whole experience with the actual hotel was positive from booking right through to leaving. I booked in person & the receptionist was very helpful making sure to take the extensive allergy information for one of the party as well as my contact details. The chef contacted to make sure he was clear about what he could provide & he did such an amazing job that the rest of our party wanted to taste the specially made allergen free afternoon tea but were laughing told by our friend that it was too good to share. All the staff serving were very good & our waiter quickly established a rapport with us & we all enjoyed his friendly gentle humour & willingness to take photographs so we would have memories to keep & share. Look forward to returning.
Be the first to ReplyUnwelcoming and unfriendly staff with a bad attitude towards customers!!!!!
Unwelcoming and unfriendly staff, with a huge lack of care and attentiveness! (Especially for a ‘4 star’ hotel) Firstly we sat in the front lounge area waiting for one of our party to arrive, a very unfriendly lady in a suit unpleasantly greeted us with ‘can I help you’ with a very unpleasant look on her face, like we didn’t belong here. We had the afternoon tea for a 60th Birthday, a couple of simple things we asked such as getting a box for our leftover afternoon tea, the waiter pretty much rolled his eyes at us as he had to ‘make up the box himself’. Everything seemed too much trouble for them, asking for another drink seemed a huge bother for them, I wanted one myself but the reaction was so rude I didn’t bother in the end. Afternoon tea itself is very average, i am a vegetarian/pescatarian and was served chicken after them asking us for any requirements and them confirming it was the vegetarian one when it was brought to the table, only to find there was chicken in one of the sandwiches. We were made to feel that we were an inconvenience to them being there, we spent £32 a head for 6 people which is a lot of money. It was half 5 and the lady came up to us saying we have to leave as they are serving dinner, not even a suggestion of you are welcome to sit in the lounge. We as a family do not get together very often and I was left disappointed and disgusted by this place, would not recommend to anyone for afternoon tea. I will be sending a formal complaint to the management.
Be the first to ReplyNeeds improvement
We were not staying at the hotel but visiting for a spa half day, for which we paid £135 each to include a 55 minute treatment and lunch. The treatments were wonderful however everything else was really disappointing. On arrival there was nowhere to sit to complete our medical forms. There are not enough loungers around the indoor pool, 3 of us had to share one lounger. The outdoor hot tub area really needs a spruce up. The decking is dangerously slippery and there is a white, mouldy covering on the wood on the inside of the tub. The jets do not work well. The gym is fine, with modern equipment. The biggest problem is the temperature, both around the pool and in the changing room. It is so hot that it is virtually impossible to spend more than 2 minutes in there, and it is an unpleasant experience getting changed after your spa experience. Nowhere to put your bags as it was too busy/overbooked, no shower gel in the showers, only one private changing room. Nobody could face drying their hair as it was too warm in there. Lunch, despite being pre-ordered, came 25 minutes after the time it was booked. It was tasty and plentiful though. I left feeling quite disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food & service with a special mention for the care & attention given to the gluten-free member of our group
Our family Boxing Day lunch at the Greenway was superb. Everything from the canapes to the coffee & biscotti was delicious. The gluten-free member of our group was given a wide choice of all courses and we loved the mini gluten free bread loaves she was served (the bread in our baskets was good as well).. The table service was perfect as was everything that came out of the kitchen. The building & gardens are beautiful with outside seating for the nicotine addicts. Highly recommended. We will be going again.
Be the first to ReplyAfternoon tea wedding anniversary celebration
My husband surprised me with an afternoon tea party for our 50th wedding anniversary. The hotel staff were great helping my husband to create a fantastic celebration and keep it secret from me. Such a lovely surprise when I went into the very attractive room and saw our friends waiting amongst all the lovely decorations. The afternoon tea itself was delightful with excellent service and delicious food and drink beautifully presented. it was simply perfect and I can't thank everyone enough. We have had and been to celebrations here before and it has been great every time. Thank you all so much.
