Ema Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Ema's ambience embodies a luminous and airy aesthetic,
Ema's ambience embodies a luminous and airy aesthetic, imbued with a touch of Californian nonchalance. This bright and breezy atmosphere sets the stage for a delightful exploration of the Mediterranean. My initial foray was the "spicy toothpick lamb" ($19). This dish featured tender morsels of lamb redolent with cumin, artfully presented alongside a house yogurt. The lamb itself was commendably supple, boasting a subtle yet piquant kick that awakened the palate. Next, I ventured towards the house-made labneh ($15). This creation showcased spring peas in their verdant glory, complemented by diminutive thumbelina carrots and a bed of lentils. The labneh, a delightful yogurt cheese, served as the foundation for this symphony of textures and flavors. A lemon vinaigrette added a touch of refreshing acidity, further elevating the dish. The accompanying fresh-baked pita bread deserves its own accolades - it was demonstrably some of the most delectable bread I have ever encountered, boasting a perfect balance of texture and flavor. My final course was the grilled chicken ($20). Succulent segments of chicken, marinated in a yogurt concoction, emerged from the grill imbued with a smoky essence. A vibrant condiment of sweet peppers and zhoug, a Yemeni hot sauce, provided a delightful counterpoint. The basmati rice, infused with a pronounced lemon essence, served as an excellent textural and flavorful accompaniment. Overall, Ema offers a vibrant and flavorful exploration of Mediterranean cuisine presented in a stylish and contemporary setting. The quality of the ingredients and the culinary finesse are undeniable. While some may find the portion sizes a touch wanting given the price, the overall experience remains highly commendable.

We stopped in on a beautiful sunny day and got a table on the patio. The service was friendly and fun and we got all the attention we needed. The food was awesome, we got several plates of all the yummy items. The drinks were refreshing and thirst quenching. Fun spot during our trip to Chicago.
Wish I lived closer cuz I'd be eating those green falafels
Wish I lived closer cuz I'd be eating those green falafels every week. Soooooo good. Cool interior. Nice staff. Delicious oh, so delishous! I get nervous when a restaurant tells us it's sharing plate style. That usually means small. Yes, the mini plates were small but the salmon kabob, other meat kabobs were plenty of food for 1 person. We got the pomegranate humas, the tuna carpaccio, and the green falafels as a pre game. All were slap your hand save some for me too. Those falafels, not sure if it was Cardamom or what was in there but every single one of us wanted more they were so good! The salmon kabob, so moist and plenty of rice. I felt full after. A little more $ than the norm but worth it. GO!

The cutest place! We went for brunch and they were able to seat us fairly quickly. The place is pretty big for what I expected. The food is amazing! We got the hummus combo starter and the bhel hummus. We had to try the bhel hummus because I've never seen an Indian twist on hummus and I'm glad I did because it was delicious! The bread is one of the best parts, you can eat baskets of it at a time. We also got the chicken and rice which was extremely well flavored and not try at all.
Should be 3.
5 stars: So I tried to make a reservation on their open table but it said it wasn't working so we just walked in. We waited for so long, and honestly almost left. They were packed for Tuesday (not sure if this is the norm). The restaurant itself is gorgeous and when we finally got seated and got our food I was happy, but to be honest the food took a long time too. The spicy hummus was delicious and I loved the salad. Our waiter was nice. If you come here, just be sure to have a reservation I would say.
Elegant vibe.
Took my daughter here for her birthday and not only did the server tell her happy birthday, but the manager came over and did also!
Such a beautiful place with amazing food.
The staff got us in quickly during lunch hours and attended to us quickly. We ordered some hummus and kebabs and they were amazing!

My husband and I have now been here twice and both times we had a great time! This past visit, we tried the tuna carpaccio which was delicious. We also tried the spicy hummus which my husband really enjoyed. I preferred the regular one. The pita bread it comes with is very good, fresh, and flavorful. The Brussel sprouts are delicious and flavored well. The cocktails are expensive but good! Overall great restaurant! The food is flavorful and tasty and the service was kind when we had our baby with us. It's also a fairly loud restaurant so our baby wasn't out of place. Would definitely come here again!
Delicious food, kind service and beautiful restaurant.
All plates were amazing! Highly recommend the lamb Kafka
Good food, it's a shareable plates type of place.
The brussel sprouts were delicious as well as the rosemary potatoes. The kebabs were good too.
Grilled octopus is incredible.
And everything else from hummus to dips to skewers. Top Notch find in a city that already has so many incredible spots.
The Whole Package
Outstanding evening sharing small plates at Ema - and we follow mostly a whole food plant based eating style. Beautiful airy space (especially when open to patio on the warm day), impeccable service and delicious food. Bridget did an excellent job with the delicate balance of giving us space and time while also being attentive - checking in unobtrusively as we were talking. The new hamachi crudo (with strawberries and rhubarb) was delectable, and the new "Bhel" hummus sounded a bit crazy when we read the description, and ended up being our favorite dish. Taking a pause and looking across the dining room we could see the team working together - even managers helping to serve - to ensure everyone had a seamless experience. Going out to eat is as much about that and the atmosphere as it is the food - and Ema delivers on all 3!

The pita and hummus are amazing!!!! Our server kindly gave my family two free desserts for my birthday. Service was kinda slow, i feel like they acted busier than it really seemed in the restaurant however i dont work at a restaurant and maybe they were understaffed or something. Great food and nice ambiance though!
The food was amazing.
The cocktails were great. The food made up for the "couldn't be bothered" attitude of the hostess. Most of the staff had an air of pretentiousness and entitlement. It was a strange vibe. Our waiter was pleasant and funny enough, but still an odd vibe in the restaurant overall.

Ema is a fantastic Mediterranean gem in Chicago! The space is minimal and modern. The feta appetizers were standouts. For entrees, I was recommended the chicken skewer which were a bit of a miss as they were rather dry. While pricey, the creative flavors, high-quality ingredients and beautiful presentations are worth it.

It was my first time eating here and first time trying the Shakshuka, OMG! This place was incredible, I'm giving 5stars on the food, and service alone!
Absolutely delicious.
Great vibes, incredible service, and the mushroom hummus is the best I've ever had!
Good Mediterranean food but the service was a little slow.
We went during summer so their patio/outdoor seating was open as well and the ambiance is beautiful.

Perfect spot for girl dinner (Get the Brussel Sprouts and split a bottle of red). Ambiance is moody, casual, and laid back, but still feels sophisticated. Need I say more?
Still great! Beautiful decor.
Excellent service. The food can't be beat. They have the best WARM fluffy pita that was awesome slathered in their labneh or eggplant dips. Had to have the crispy potatoes again. Hamachi was fresh. Great for a light lunch.
Overall the food is great and delicious.
I have tried other Mediterranean restaurant in the city, but this is the best one I had so far. The 2 spreads: The mushroom hummus was awesome, not salty at all. The mushroom and radish add a nice crunch to the spread. And the charred eggplant was definitely the best of the night. This is definitely a must ordered dish. The pomegranate adds a bit sweetness to the spread, and it's amazing and unique. The pita bread is great and well-paired with the spread. Salmon Kebabs: The lemon match well with the salmon, adds a bit juiciness and souring taste to salmon. The vegetables in between salmon chunks adds a touch of crunch to the dish. Brussels Sprouts: Must order vegetable dish. The vinaigrette adds a touch sour taste to the dish. And the pumpkin seeds adds a crunch. Crispy Potatoes: My friend ordered this dish and she said it was great. Unfortunately, I didn't have any because I am lactose intolerant. The smell was great and the portion is large enough to share. The service was great and our server was super friendly and happy to talk to. He was super careful about my food allergies and mindful with that. The environment was cozy and comfortable.
A delicious Night in the Mediterranean
We set up a group dinner for 12 here this month and it was AMAZING!! Staff accommodated a couple special diets (GF,Soy,Dairy) with ease and the food was so delicious along with drinks. The service was over the top wonderful and it was a delightful evening from start to finish - Book it and ENJOY !!!!!!
Tasty food
It was not a good start as my knife came dirty from the kitchen. Other than that (forgotten and forbidden now), food was really tasty. I had a fresh sald and a juicy salmon. I needed fresh food and Ema played the trick. I can recommend it.
Walk in
We were a โwalk inโ and my daughter and I got seated right away. The olive & feta appetizer was our favorite. The falafel was too over cooked & dry, unfortunately.
Great food gluten free menu
We came here on a Sunday night at 5:45. We sat outside, which was beautiful and not too crowded. We loved all of our appetizers, included crispy potatoes, brussels sprouts, green falafel, and hummus. We had the Greek salad. If youโre gluten free, a side of gluten-free crackers comes with the hummus and they were delicious. The starter portion sizes decent for 4 to split. We had the grilled branzino, halloumi and lamb kebabs. The fish was amazing. The kebabs are one kebab with rice. We appreciated the gluten-free menu and the designated gluten-free fryer? If the food was not so good I would have given three stars. The service we had was terrible. We had asked for water, there were things floating in one water glass, when the food arrived, we had no utensils. We had to wait and track someone down to get utensils. Two people were not at the table when we ordered drinks and our server came back to the table didnโt ask her if they wanted something to drink just dropped of water and walked away. The people we were with said they have had great service in the past, not tonight.
Terrible experience
I have never had worst service !!! The staff is very dismissive and the server spilled water on me and the table while serving my guests and did not even recognize or apologize. I will not be EVER coming back
Quick lunch at the bar was definitely worth the stop.
We were in a hurry, but we really wanted try taste this restaurant before we left Chicago. We sat at the bar and the food came out consistently and in a timely manner to everyone around us. We had the eggplant as a starter and shared a Greek salad and salmon kebabs, which were really tasty and a good lunch portion. I loved all of it. A guy sitting next to me told me that heโs come here for takeout and in the back they have a really cool prepared lunch line with soft serve Greek frozen yogurt available for dessert. I decided to go there myself for the Greek yogurt afterwards and it was five dollars less expensive if you buy it and it to go cup and take it with you. Itโs was delicious!! Iโll definitely plan to go again next time Iโm in town. The only hiccup on service was that since we were sharing two entrรฉes, they gave us these tiny bowls to use, and I had asked for a regular size plate, so that it was more comfortable to eat and they brought it 20 minutes into the meal.
