If you want authentic Italian that's more about the food, than the hype, this place is it. Every dollar is well spent. You'll always see the owners at the corner table in the entrance. We waited in the rain (no reservations) before the restaurant opened and it was worth it. The bread service with tomato sauce was beyond. The linguine w/ white clam sauce was akin to the one I had in Italy. The tiramusu, though heavy on the cream, was inhaled by all those at the table. Next time I'm in NY, this will be my first stop.

No reservations and it's difficult to get one of the 10ish tables for dinner but it's not hard to get one for a midweek lunch. Chicken Parm and Spaghetti & Meatballs were both excellent and the free bread with the table was also very good. Keep in mind that while the chicken parm is really good, it's $40 for one piece of chicken and no sides. That said, it's worth a visit.

The hype is real!! We came on a Friday at 4:45pm and there was 1 person ahead of us. We waited until 5pm and then were seated. Everyone was very attentive, kind, and patient with us. We were give complimentary focaccia bread that was delicious and hard not to fill up on. We ordered a bottle of the montepulciano wine which went PERFECTLY with everything we ordered. We ordered the ravioli pasta, the amatriciana, the chicken parmesan, and the Caesar salad. We had a group of three that was plenty for us. We also ordered the cheesecake and the tiramisu to split between us. Everything was absolutely divine. The ravioli was simple but really stood out to me and the chicken parm was definitely the best I've ever had. Caesar salad was good too. The tiramisu was a must order, it was incredible, light yet filling, and so so delicious. Cheesecake was simple and fantastic. Cannot rave enough about the food, the party I came with also still talk about the food even though it's been a month. Ambiance is also very cool! Old school Italian (I think?) and had a lot of interesting pictures on the walls. Can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyHad lunch there with my son this past Friday.
Opened at 12:00, we got there around 12:15 and were the 3rd table. In terms of the vibe , classic joint with a real old-world feel. Somewhat reminiscent (minus the celebrity photos) of another local place that I absolutely loved but unfortunately closed back in 2021 (Volare). Place filled up while we were there (all tables occupied by the time we left ~ 2pm). Food wise - real good. We had two special appetizers (mozzarella carrozza & grilled octopus). For our entrees, I had the shrimp fra diavalo over linguine which was spicy but not too, very delicious and my son had the chicken parm - also delicious. Drinks ... two bottles of sparkling water and a single Negroni. We passed on desserts opting to walk a few blocks and get cookies from Levain. All-in-all ... was a great lunch with greater company. Bill came to $190 + tip ($22 for a small Negroni ... come on but oh well). Overall - glad we went.

Waited over an hour outside (watched multiple groups of people who "knew" someone inside form a separate line and make it in before us). After an hour and a half, we made it inside. The service started off strong but there's only 2 waiters - the host and another waiter servicing the entire front room. With pasta at $40 was expecting a larger portion and more flavor. The Cesar salad ($27) was 6 pieces of romaine lettuce and nothing to write home about. Best part of our meal was the homemade limoncello at the end. Unfortunately, satisfied I experienced it but sadly NOT worth the hype of 1k reviews and wait time. Save yourself some time and $ and check out another NYC Italian favorite.

Wait staff could not have made it more uncomfortable to spend $1500 for 8 people. Had to be reminded multiple times that we had to spend $185 per person because we were a table of 8 instead of 6. Food was good but atmosphere was terrible

We eat out a lot and here's my review: food is ok but definitely NOT great. Absolutely NOT the best chicken parm I've had..far from it. I agree with other reviewers: there's a long line outside but there were also plenty of people who cut the line. It's def not first come, first served. Also, Jimmy Murtagh fans: don't make the mistake I did. Don't believe the hype. I promise you the juice is not worth the squeeze. There are far better place where you'll be treated far far better. Also, beware of fake reviews from people who have only ever written 1-2 reviews. PS- tiramisu was mediocre at best. Subpar, actually.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this place.
Stereotypical NYC Italian restaurant, but great ambience service - and the food was amazing.
Be the first to ReplyThird time attempting & first time actually waiting it out.
Best Italian meal I've ever had. Period. Worth the wait & you never know what a-list celeb you might see.
Be the first to ReplyGreat warm ambiance and food is always impeccable.
I love the linguine with clams so much!
Be the first to ReplyWaited in the cold over an hour for this place.
Was told by hostess I had to wait another 20 minutes because there weren't enough people in my party. (Hence I was alone and they wouldn't sit me at a table.) I'm mostly pissed off for them wasting my time. If I could give this place a zero I would.

The food was absolutely delicious, the veal parm being a must - with a glass of house red. Service was very attentive. Had a fantastic meal. Get there at 5 when it opens! Got seated immediately, and there was a line down the block by the time we left.

Be the first to ReplyLoved the vibes and food.
Ordered the spicy pasta and it was very spicy (warning). The spaghetti was delicious too. Definitely going back.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a little gem of a place this is.
Menu is not big but they have many lovely choices. We had the orange fennel and arugula salad and tripe to start .my husband compared the tripe to the one we had in Rome, which is a huge compliment. The pasta fagioli was very tasty, and the linguini with white clam sauce was probably one of the best we've had in the entire city finished off with a lovely cappuccino and a piece of cheesecake. Cannot wait to go back and try more yummy menu items really recommend this place.

I don't know what else to say about this restaurant except that it is my favorite restaurant in NYC and you will never see me step foot in another Italian restaurant in the borough of Manhattan. This is not because of the celebrities on the walls there, it is because of the experience the Vitolo family gives to even the average diner. The ambiance is top notch and that is the least of the hype I have to give this establishment. The food here is nothing short of impeccable. From the fresh focaccia, to the baked clams, the to flavorful meatballs, to the fresh pasta that is made to order in the the best sauces, to the meat such as the veal that is so tender and full of flavor. You will not have better food in your life! In fact, I usually bit off more than I can chew and take leftovers home. While it's not the same as having is freshly cooked at the restaurant, I guarantee you will still be blown away from the leftovers! Now let me get to service. Of all the times I have been here, I have never once had to worry about where my waiter or waitress were when I needed something. This staff is at the top of their game, like the 1992 U.S.A Men's Basketball Dream Team. They give great recommendations and will make sure your table does not go without any food or beverage and will make sure that you are taken care of at all times. I am a standard 20% tipper no matter the service, unless it is really bad. However, at this establishment the staff gets AT LEAST a 25% tip from me. Mr. and Mrs. Vitolo have set a high standard at this establishment that they passed on to their sons who are the absolute best and treat everyone who walks in their as if they are part of the family. I know they will continue this standard for a very long time. You may have to wait for a table and it might be tough to get in, but the patience will pay off. To get the BEST, sometimes you have to wait for it.
Be the first to ReplyThe wait took a while, but the food was pretty good.
I had the bolognese and my partner had the ravioli. It was a charming place. I definitely recommend ordering a few dishes to share with your friends and family so you can try a bit of everything.

Be the first to ReplyHugely disappointed in this place.
I can't see what the fuss is about. We arrived and there were already 10 people in line. We jumped in and were excited for a great experience. It was shocking how badly they treat their guests. At least a dozen people ignored the line, popped their head in the door, and the self important owner who sits at the door would let them in and seat them. If we weren't already an hour into the process we would have left for sure. I think he likes to create the illusion that you are getting something special with the line so unless you know this guy, prepare to hang out on the sidewalk as a marketing tool. I found the menu to be limited and overpriced for the quality of food. It was good basic Italian but honestly nothing I couldn't have gotten at a million other NY Italian restaurants and have been treated as a valued guest! Do yourself a favor and skip the line!

Dont even bother waiting in line like a pawn to dine at this place. It's overhyped & a disappointment,This is nothing better than a run of the mill italian joint in Midtown - a trattoria del arte, a don giovanni's, etc. it just so happens to have the old paesan feel to it...Head someplace else where you don't have to hold your dick on Houston like the rest of the riff raff and tiktok-ers that eat here
Be the first to ReplyThey don't take reservations.
.. its a little bit of a wait.. I suggest going early for dinner. The food is just awesome. Great portions... the veal was to die for. The pasta's were a little over cooked to my liking but then again I like my pasta al dente... Not a deal breaker. it was still way better than what you normally get in the US.Oh, and their house red is magical.

I've tried a few Italian joints in the city, and this has to be my fav so far. If you're looking for that New York italian feels, go here. I only knocked off one star because they don't take reservations, so if you want to get in you have to go early.Their chicken parm is one of my fav I've ever had. Other places just can't seem to get it right but this one was so good. I also loved their burrata! It's a perf date night spot.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem brings you back in time.
Food is fantastic. Get there early and be prepared to wait for a table, worth it!
Be the first to ReplyTHIS IS OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT EVER.
Hands down. The best marinara sauce I've ever had, so I'd recommend getting a dish that includes it. We love the chicken parm, and the calamari, and the Caesar salad is one of the best I've had. Everything we get here is delicious, and we love the atmosphere. Keep in mind, the door is locked at all times, so I'd just knock politely to get the waiter's attention.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, service, and ambiance.
..especially in the back room. Go here to create a memory. My favorite Italian in NYC, hands down!
