Epicurean Barangaroo Reviews from The Last Year
Watch for the one hot drink rule at pricey breakfast
Not sure who comes with this ideas! As a guest of Crown Sydney my breakfast was included in the price of hotel room. However normally the privilege would cost you $57.50. I can’t really complain about the quality of the food at the buffet- at this price you expect a decent quality. But… Upon arrival at our table we were asked if we wanted a hot drink. I chose to have a black tea to start with. It took about 15 min to get it and it came on a leaking pot - half the tea ended up on the table. My husband’s omlet order came after another 10min - wrong omlet. Didn’t complain about that - sometimes orders get confused is such a busy restaurant bit at the end of our me asked for a coffee just to be told that we would have to pay for it - $6 - because only one hot drink is included with our breakfast. I really don’t understand the logic. I could eat half a cow drink 5 litres of juice have a kilo of salmon, chocolate fountain, ice cram and more but my teabag in hot water costed me 6 dollars! Where is the logic? I rarely complain and find it frustrating that customers are treated so badly. Apparently the one drink rule came in about 6 months ago. In my case it really wasn’t that much about the 6 dollars - it is just about the logic and arrogance of Crown management. So petty!
The Epicurean
Dined at the Epicurean on Friday night at 5.30pm with my husband. Service from wait staff was great, bringing clean cutlery and plates as needed. Oysters were Sydney Rock and a little small but fresh. There was some lobsters cut in half and various shellfish. Plenty of variety in cuisines. Wine and beers are expensive. Room filled pretty quickly so booking is essential. We will venture back again.
Excellent seafood
Extraordinary experience, we came with my family and we all really liked the food, and the service was very good. We will be back
Quite nice - spoilt by bizarre wine service
The buffet was quite copious and varied .Quality was generally good - I particularly enjoyed the Japanese section. Seafood was OK - prawns, oysters & swimmer crab all fresh. Ordered a bottle of Rose' and asked them to leave the bottle on the table. Not allowed it's against the rules!! Later on ordered a glass of red. Told they couldn't bring it until I'd drunk the drop of Rose left in my glass as nobody is allowed to have two glasses with wine in front of them!!! Bizarre infantile rules - no adult likes to be treated like a three year old. I've travelled the world and never come across anything like this. Oh dear!!
Good variety , inconsistent quality
Buffet Dining Experience: A Mixed Bag Upon entering the Epicurean , the first impression was one of ample space and a bustling atmosphere, indicative of a popular dining spot. The restaurant boasts a wide variety of dishes, ranging from seafood , roast meats, Asian , curries , sushi bar , fruits and dessert classics, ensuring that there's something for everyone. The food was mostly fresh and well-stocked, with a decent selection. The sushi section had a modest assortment, but the freshness was hit-or-miss. The Italian and roast meats featured the usual of: pizza, pasta, and a carving station. The pizza pockets had a satisfactory taste, though it lacked the crispness of a freshly baked pocket , The pasta was adequate but would benefit from a bit more seasoning. The Asian section with dumplings and various dishes and curries was also hit and miss with freshness or quality. Some dumplings have dried out , while curries and noodle dishes didn’t look too appetising. The dessert station was the highlight, with an array of cakes, pastries, and a chocolate fountain that was particularly popular among the younger guests. However, the sorbets and iced cream was a mess from teenagers not paying attention and/or butchering their scoops , which was a disappointment. Service was polite and attentive. Plates were cleared with promptness, but getting a server's attention for drink refills took some effort. In terms of value, the price point is fair for the quantity of food, but the quality leaves room for improvement. It's a suitable option for large groups or family outings where variety trumps culinary excellence. Overall, Epicurean offers a buffet experience with City views but with no major flaws but also no standout features. It's a solid choice for those seeking quantity and variety, but food connoisseurs might find it lacking.
Go somewhere else…. Anywhere
Barrangaroo is a great spot, but this would be the worst choice you could make to eat. The seafood buffet is impressive, but like most buffets is overcooked. The service was appalling. There are so many places in the city, take my advice, give this one a wide berth.
NO
Quality of seafood was poor….i think it was fresh but low grade. We go to Glebe fish markets all the time, the fish & oysters are much better there. Hot food-pizza tasted like cardboard-dried out & flavourless, duck-tasteless, chicken wings-dry,flavours really lacking in hot food. I make a beautiful roast duck…it’s not hard! How can you screw that up? View was nice. Not worth the money & would definitely NOT go back!
Extremely pleased with my dining experience!!
I visited the Epicurean on October 28th for the first seating of their mega buffet. It was amazing and the service was also top notch!!! There was so much food to choose from. There is a time limit because there is a second seating that happens right after, therefore you have about 1.5 hours. Everything was incredible but come really hungry because it’s too much food that you will miss out on.
UNBELIEVABLE BUFFET
This was my first visit but you may realise I go to lots of good places. This is truely outstanding. The buffet is visually spectacular and everything I tried was outstanding. Great oysters and lobster tails and sushi and sashimi plus chinese and Indian offerings. Simply outstanding. Do yourself a favour. I can’t wait to go back.
Yeah Nah!!
Sunday price of $135 per head for a pretty ordinary buffet AND THEN they apply a 10% Sunday surcharge to everything so end result 2 people, pre dinner drinks (1 beer, 1 cocktail) plus wine = $473.00!! Seriously, my local leagues club that has fabulous water views do a buffet for $26 per head which features fresh seafood which is more than can be said for this venue where the seafood was very ordinary with some of it clearly frozen (this from a venue about a kilometre away from the biggest fresh seafood market in the Southern Hemisphere). On the plus side, wait staff are very good hence 2 stars but we will not be rushing back.
Food was ok
Had dinner here for our 20 yr anniversary and it was very much overrated for the cost you pay. We are not seafood people, so other options for us were minimal. Drinks we wanted weren't available which was a let down. They knew it was our anniversary and didn't give us anything special besides the crowns chocolate bar. Very unimpressive if you ask me. Not only did the hotel let us down with a promised cake they never provided, but the buffet also didn't do anything special for us. Only enjoyable part of the buffet was the dessert
Amazing buffet, outstanding views
Oh where to start, from arrival to outstanding table service,Hayley and Chelsea looked after us all afternoon. The food, an all you can imagine buffet, towering oyster bar, fresh crabs, then a sushi bar, roast/carvery section, Chinese, Indian oh and the best last, the dessert and chocolate fountain. Something for everyone here, don’t miss out
Okay but not for couples on a date night!
Whilst it is probably the best buffet in Sydney, it was extremely crowded and not the best place for couples. It felt rushed and loud. The seafood lacked in flavour which was disappointing. The rest of the buffet was fine with plenty of selections to choose from. I enjoyed the breakfast far more as it was much calmer. The staff were wonderful and attentive so to that end, could not fault them. A table of 10 departed and four staff promptly cleaned, all assured in their specific task to prepare for their next guests. It was like clockwork and no one talked, just got in and did what they needed to do. Training of their staff is obviously very good.
Nice Buffet
It may be a bit more expensive than other buffets but overall good variety of good quality food at a great location.
A surprisingly enjoyable dining experience, with a great view
Profoundly sceptical about the supposed charms of an all you can eat buffet. The experience turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Two hours to over indulge so you have to pace yourselves. The biggest draw card h is s the seafood - oysters, bugs and lobster tails aplenty. The sashimi / sushi bar was excellent too. Charcuterie and cheeses were well represented too. As for the hot food, there was a good selection of Asian / Indian and Australian / European options too. The spacious room makes for a more relaxed atmosphere than I’d expected and it’s 5th Floor location provides a nice vantage point for Bridge views and sunset.

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.

Reservations could be posted for a variety of reasons. Most likely, the person who secured the reservation can no longer attend - to avoid accruing a "no show" fee, they can find someone to take their place.
