Esh Modern Mediterranean Fairfield Reviews from The Last Year
This place has a lot of potential but they are too greedy
This place has a lot of potential but they are too greedy with the price. If you order the dips like hummus, etc. they only give you this small flat bread that is definitely way too small to finish the dips with. So if you order another piece of bread, they charge you $9 for a piece of bread. I literally spent over $200 on dinner for two people and they are charging $9 for a piece of bread. I would be going back here 4-6 times per year but now I'll never go back. I feel too ripped off.
I have mixed feelings about what I want to say about this
I have mixed feelings about what I want to say about this experience at Esh. We've eaten at Esh several times and have always had a great meal and a good time. However, during this visit, something happened that started the evening off on a very sour note! I made, and reconfirmed, our reservation for a party of four. We were hosting another couple who had never been to Esh before. Our guests arrived 5 minutes before we did and they were told that they would not be seated until the entire party had arrived, in spite of the fact that we had a valid reservation for a party of 4 people. I have run into this "policy" at some very busy, trendy restaurants in Manhattan. It's somewhat annoying, but understandable in that situation. However, this is Fairfield, CT...NOT NYC! Maybe Esh thinks that they are too cool, too popular, too hip and too wonderful to be accommodating and welcoming to their customers. But, the bottom line is that this policy is ridiculous and represents a snooty, egotistical attitude toward their customers, rather than a warm and welcoming treatment of their guests. I arrived at Esh about 5 minutes after our guests. All 4 of us were, then, seated at our table. I noticed that there were numerous empty tables in the restaurant! I don't understand why they made our guests stand around and wait for me to arrive! That seems to be very unwelcoming and inhospitable. They could easily have seated our guests at one of the many empty tables and asked if they wanted a drink while waiting for me to arrive. Esh would be better off to lose some of their egotistical attitude, chill out, and treat their customers with more welcoming behavior. Granted, the space is nice, the food is good, but eating out is more than just food and decor....it ought to be an overall enjoyable experience. The way Esh treated our guests made it much less so! I urge Esh to reevaluate their "policy" and exhibit a more friendly attitude toward their customers! (and, btw, turn down the volume of the music a bit, so that folks can have a conversation over dinner without having to shout at one another!)
This was a phenomenal experience - the bread with the dips
This was a phenomenal experience - the bread with the dips is to die for. The burger, lamb dish, and the fish dishes we tried were great as were the desserts. Can't say enough good things about this place.
Absolutely delicious.
Amazing decor. Waist staff is on point! Get the steak skewer and the burger!!
Amazing food in Cool Fairfield Restaurant.
Fantastic sophisticated meal at Esh last night. Easily the best food in the town. Excellent service and friendly atmosphere. Interesting options abound. We had three messez for $25 which were outstanding and came with an amazing fresh cooked read. Followed it up with Felafel. Fried beautifully and served in a little brown container a la chinese food takeout. Incredibly tasty. My wife had the chicken which was inventive and I had Skirt steak wagu. Tender and large enough to take half home. For dessert—cheese cake and ice cream including a delicious lavender flavored scoop. My only complaint was that although the dining room is elegant and interesting the windows look out on parking lots and roads. It add curtains. Well done

Outstanding food and service in a beautiful and calm
Outstanding food and service in a beautiful and calm environment. The appetizers were amazing. We especially enjoyed the dips.
We came here for a birthday dinner.
I was excited to try something new! The restaurant is gorgeous! The service was a bit slow but we were not in a rush so no big deal and it was also very busy so it's to be expected. Our server was kind, as were the helpers. The experience here was definitely unique, in a great way. We started off with the Meze dips. 5 for 35$ and served with flatbread and olives. They were all delicious! Definitely flavors I've never tasted before. This was the favorite part of my meal. For my entree, I ordered the North African style halibut - tomato sauce with paprika, garlic, red pepper, green chickpeas, homemade potato gnocchi & cilantro. In my opinion, the flavors were way too powerful. The fish was cooked perfectly, but I sadly couldn't finish it nor anything else on my plate. It was too much for me. It tasted like I was eating a bowl full of seasoning. I do enjoy different flavors, but it was not for me. This restaurant is very unique and I'm sure many people will enjoy it. It's definitely worth giving it a try.
Was worried it seemed a little too much of a scene for me,
Was worried it seemed a little too much of a scene for me, but hot damn the food is good! Lives up to the hype. Friendly staff - which is always nice, especially when it at a hot new restaurant where I have come to expect a bit of an ego - none here, just good food and service! Best shawarma I've had in the area. Expensive, but everything is these days.
Food, service, ambiance are all amazing.
We were a party of 4 and shared 2 dips and the octopus as apps. They were shared a fish and meat dish for our r tree. Finished the meal with Nonnas dessert. It's definitely pricey! But worth for a special treat.
We've eaten there three times and it's always been so
We've eaten there three times and it's always been so delicious. Great ambience and interesting menu. Only tidbit I could forget next time is Moroccan Cigars. Otherwise everything we ordered and ate was spectacular. Lovely servers. It's always jammed but tables are spaced for comfort. I'm so impressed. As a family, we have so much fun there. The complementary flatbread is the best Ice ever eaten anywhere, the spreads are delicious and I'm a tried and true Brooklynite and the Pastrami Pizza is just incredible. It's definitely a YES.
Checked all the boxes
The full package. Food’s amazing, especially the flatbread. Tried the feta one and it was the highlight of the night. Also tried the cauliflower, delicious mix of red & white sauces and perfectly cooked. The halibut with gnocchi was delicious too. Flavor heavy, but everything well orchestrated. And finally, the Grandma Cake was great too. I’m not big in sweets, but this one really got me. Great atmosphere - decoration, music selection and friendly staff.
Delish-esh!
We tried to get a reservation in December--the first available Friday or Saturday reservation was in February--Wow, popular place! Esh is tucked away in an apartment complex of I-95 in Fairfield--once you find it, there's lots of delicious inside. The dining room is chic, the staff is friendly and helpful, the menu has lots to offer. Be warned, the prices are above average for Fairfield--this was a splurge for our modest budget. Be sure to get one of the dips--accompanied by a flavorful bread (with pickled veggies and olives) this is a steal here for $9.00. For our small plates, we did the duck wings (the hit of the night), the octopus (very good) and the basket of falafel (good). We also ordered the Angus shawarma (very large portion and tasty) and the bone-in short rib (also very good). The three of us could barely finish any of the dishes and left with a nice take-out bag. Lots and lots of creativity and flavor in all of the dishes. Again note, this is on the pricey side. The least expensive glass of wine here is $18.00. The entrees are $40-$55 and most of the sharables are in the mid $20's. And be advised to make your reservation SEVERAL weeks early to be sure to get a spot.
Dinner
We stopped in for dinner and really enjoyed the experience and food. We did not have a reservation but since we got there early we sat at a communal table which was just fine. The restaurant was really nicely decorated with a large communal table where at least about 12 could sit at. In addition there had a beautiful bar area when one could also dine at. It was as very nice vibe. For our meal we decided to have several plates to share. We started with the burrata which was excellent, served with some cured meat slices and nuts. Really good! We also ordered the octopus and the Wagyu Bao buns. The buns were packed with flavor, I love them. Top top everything off we had an order of the Brussel sprouts. For dessert we had the date sponge cake. It was the perfect way to end the night.
Much better before the hype
This is my fourth time visiting, and I’ll start by saying that I love this restaurant and have recommended it heartily. Today’s comments are because, at last night’s visit, I felt that the experience had slipped, and I believe it’s because the place has become so popular, with long waiting lists and lots of buzz. Our starters were delicious, particularly the roasted cauliflower and spicy feta dip. But two of our three entrees were just embarrassing. I ordered the lamb tenderloin, which I’ve had before. At $45, the meat, which is supposed to be medium rare and tender, was overcooked and tough — and a meager portion to boot. My son’s chicken entree was so small that he finished the meat in four bites, and my husband gave him half of his own meal. I don’t mind paying up for a nice dinner, and I’ve enjoyed my experiences here in the past, so this commentary is intended as a wake-up call to the kitchen. As much as I enjoy the dazzling dining room and open kitchen theater, I’m coming here for the food, and, sadly, I won’t be rushing back. My advice: stick to the apps and avoid the entrées.
Be prepared to wait
What happens when you mix an overhyped restaurant with good, but not exceptional, food and arrogant gen z kids at the front who don’t seem bothered by the fact that you made a reservation which has not been honored for over 30 minutes? You have Esh. I’ve gone here 4 times since it opened. The 30 minute wait means this will be my last. And, to the manager who told me that this happens all the time in NYC, no it doesn’t. A restaurant that thrives on dinner reservations for guests with important business companions does not make them wait 30 minutes. It at leasts would offer them the option of starting at the bar and continuing in the main dining room. That’s the way it’s done in NYC, London and even New Delhi. (Esh is in Fairfield) The actual wait staff in the dining room is exceptional, each and every time. The food delivery time in the dining room (not the bar) is consistently timely if not fast. And, the food can be pretty good, which obviously is the draw. Sea Bass is spicy and flavorful. The lamb is tender and inviting. The shwarma is mediocre and overdone. The hummus is fine, but, it’s not Tel Aviv, sorry. And, the flatbread, well, it’s flatbread, not pita, and it’s not much better than freezer bread that you put on your grill. Feel free to go once and try it out. But, expect to be treated poorly at the entrance desk despite the NYC prices.
Definitely !
I will start with the main part of this review- definitely GO! I don’t give out 5 stars easily but ESH deserves it. What a great restaurant! The ambiance, food and the service are top notch. The design and ambiance is perfect. We ordered something from every part of the menu and overall they were all fabulous. The only dish that could use some help was the cauliflower head app which was mushy and sauce had bland tasteless flavor. Note- portions are quite substantial and great value . So be careful don’t over order like we did or a lot will be going home as leftovers . ESH just open recently and word is traveling fast so MAKE SURE to make a reservation way in advance (weeks!) because it is getting very hard to get a reservation . Parking is easy with a garage right next door and they will validate.
A taste of the Mediterranean in northern Fairfield County
Very good fusion of Greek, Israeli, North African and Lebanese dishes, incorporating a NY vibe in Fairfield, CT. Our server, Brian, forewarned us that portions are designed for sharing and we enjoyed a wonderful mix of house flatbread that comes with olive oil and pickled cabbage and carrots, a lamb flatbread with tahini and spices, grilled octopus served with roasted potatoes and avocado, Moroccan cigars stuffed with braised short rib (a little greasy as it’s fried in beef fat), shrimp vermicelli (also fried in the beef fat), and Australian wagyu shawarma. A crisp Greek white wine with hints of apple and pear added the right balance to the exotic herbs and zataar-laced flavors. Of note, the flour for the flatbread is milled on a farm in Emilia-Romagna that dates to the 14th century. This restaurant has only been open for just over a month but it’s going to be a hit for the local foodie scene. With good food, a beefed up staff, cool atmosphere and a steady stream of Mediterranean inspired music pumping through the restaurant, all signs point to a great future.
Modern, stylish venue, with excellent food and service
We came here for dinner tonight, with friends. I was so impressed that I felt like writing this review while the experience was fresh in my mind. First impressions - sleek, modern place with a welcoming atmosphere and a reasonable noise level (some other local restaurants can be loud). We were seated promptly, and our server was attentive and friendly. Food was excellent. I had crispy duck wings as a starter, followed by Australian Wagyu Shawarma. Portions were generous, and it looks like Shawarma is on the menu for tomorrow's lunch. My wife started with Lahma Joun (Taboon flatbread with minced lamb) which she shared with our friends, and Taboon Baked Mussels. As it happens, several of the mussels failed to open. My wife mentioned this to our server, and he not only comped her entrée, but also added a complimentary dessert. A very nice gesture. Wine by the glass included a Turkish red, which I chose, and a Greek white, which was chosen by my wife. It's always fun to try unusual wines. Both pretty decent table wines, and reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive, but not excessively so. A good balance. Some other observations - the restaurant is on the ground floor of of an apartment block which also contains the parking garage for Fairfield Metro station. Parking is free - just show your ticket to the Maitre d', and he'll validate it. All in all, a very positive experience.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
