Evangeline Calistoga Reviews from The Last Year
Disappointing.
As others have mentioned, the prices suggest a far better dining experience than what's happening. We fell for modern branding on the outside of the restaurant and the (very cute) covered patio complete with string lights and vine-covered trellis. Service was fine. A bit disinterested, but otherwise attentive. We ordered the corn soup, steak frites, chilled cauliflower and some wine. The steak (medium rare) was tough and chewy, my knife had a hard time getting through it. The cauliflower was just that, a bowl of steamed cauliflower with no seasoning. And lastly, the corn soup was flavorless. It was sour and didn't taste like corn. Perhaps there were better items on the menu, but this simply didn't live up to the foodie experience we've come to expect here in Calistoga.
This is one of our go to spots in Calistoga.
Always a great menu, outside seating area year round is gorgeous and well maintained - the food is chefs kiss!!
Probably one of the best pork chops I've ever had.
Tender, juicy and flavorful. Both my wife and I had one. My two daughters shared the famous fried chicken, it was also delicious. Friendly and quick service. We sat outside in the patio, very nice and relaxing. The food was so good I didn't even stop to take pictures.
We've been ordering the fried chicken for music n the park
We've been ordering the fried chicken for music n the park for years. It's always been expensive, though what was once $55 is now $69, plus a mandatory 15-25%tip and tax. But at least back in the day, there was a diverse menus each week, and the gourmet sides were indeed gourmet, artful salads, interesting sides or hearty classics like Mac n cheese, and the meal fed 4 people if not more, and the bucket of chicken was full. Those days like many things in the Napa Valley, are a thing of the past. Last summer, it was pretty much the same meal every week, and uninspired at that. The price went up, but at least the chicken filled the bucket, and was standout. Cut to 2024, last night we picked up a half-filled bucket of cold greasy chicken, fruit salad that looked like what you scoop out at the grocery store, and a small container of potato salad, with cold Mexican street corn for, wait for it--$75. While these baskets have been a true sign of summer for the past 3 years+ they now represent another unfortunate example it of good things gone bad in the Napa Valley.
We went to Calistoga for the long weekend and after a few
We went to Calistoga for the long weekend and after a few months we visited Evangeline. I was excited to hear that they serve brunch again! You know Evangeline is one of my favorite restaurants in the Napa County. I like the restaurant's vibe and of course their food! Because it was a busy day, and I forgot to make a reservation, we sat next to the bar and it was nice, talking with their staff and enjoying my delicious omelet and coffee :)
The service was terrible on a nearly empty night.
We asked as we watched other tables come and go. My husband had to finally find the manager to get our food an hour later. Waitress had forgotten to put in the order; all five tables....No offer to comp anything. Minimal apology from both the manager and staff. Meanwhile, swatting flies the whole time... Now for the food. My dad's family is from the garden district of New Orleans. and I lived in France. We know creole and we know French bistro fare. This was overpriced, mediocre, skimpy versions of the touted cuisine. Shrimp etoufee; tomatoe on rice with frozen shrimp. Pork chop; don't even get me started. Creme brulee; pudding with a carmelized top and some pollution of a rasberry jam in the center. Again, slow night with no excuse for lousy service, bad food, and lousy customer service. For goodness sake, we were out by 7pm on a Friday. This is Calistoga; near Yountville, Healdsburg, and St. Helena. Feel free to eat better locally or venture out to the nearby towns.
Beautiful, large patio with a lovely ambiance.
The food is delicious. The shrimp etouffe is my absolute favorite!
THEE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Don't, I repeat, Don't eat here.
This is not Creole cuisine! Blackened Shrimp not Blackened per Owner Cesan, shrimp are cooked in Old Bay Seasoning. Bland Étouffée and undercooked hush puppies. And this was not the worst part of the visit to this restaurant. The owner Cesan lacked the common customer service to visit the table to see what if anything could be corrected. Mind you the was a total of 4 people dining. After requesting his presence he comes to the table without even hearing the issues and goes into the long explanation about spice levels of the dish and his personal preference of the dish and how he lived in New Orleans. This is not an apology and I would never return or recommend this place to anyone!!
I have mixed feelings with Evangeline.
Let me start with the service, which was really good. Our server was attentive and courteous. We came in a Saturday lunch and the place was not crowded at 1pm. Lots of seating in the patio. The brunch menu food is ok. The oysters were a little sandy. All other dishes were just ok. The complementary cake and ice cream for Mother's Day was a nice surprise. I would go back again and try the regular menu.
We loved our time visiting Evangeline! We had great service
We loved our time visiting Evangeline! We had great service and the food was absolutely delicious. We had four adults and 3 kids and all of our food came out on time. Raul was our server and he was so kind! If you come during nice weather - the outdoor patio is beautiful. We enjoyed our food so much - we went back the next night! Highly recommend adding Evangeline to your visit in Calistoga!
