Visiting Far Niente was a journey through history and
Visiting Far Niente was a journey through history and craftsmanship, steeped in the legacy of its founders and the dedication of its current stewards. Set amidst the picturesque landscape of Oakville, California, the estate exudes an aura of timeless elegance and charm. The Estate Tasting offered a delightful opportunity to savor the newest vintages alongside hand-selected wines from their family of wineries. Each sip unveiled layers of complexity, a testament to Far Niente's commitment to excellence in winemaking. The depth of the wines truly captured the essence of Napa Valley's terroir, taking our taste buds on a captivating journey. However, the tasting experience felt somewhat rushed and scripted, which detracted from the overall enjoyment. It seemed evident that we were the last tasting of the day, leading to a slightly less personalized experience. For future visitors, I would recommend scheduling your tasting earlier in the day to fully savor the wines and avoid feeling rushed. Despite this minor disappointment, the beauty of the estate and the quality of the wines still shine through, making Far Niente a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts seeking to explore the rich heritage of Napa Valley winemaking. While not perfect, our experience was still memorable and deserving of a four-star rating."

What an amazing experience!! We were very fortunate to have Elias as our host. I cannot even express enough how charming and knowledgeable he was about not only wine, but of the beautiful history of the property! What an absolute pleasure to be his group! The wine lives up to the excellent reputation and may have tasted even more crisp as we were indulging it on property. Far Niente Winery is breathtakingly beautiful and highly recommended for their views, staff, service, and of course their wine.

I really enjoy Far Niente's chardonnay, and I recently got to visit the winery for the first time for a tour and tasting. I drove through beautiful gardens and canopy trees to make my way to the parking lot. At the parking lot I was able to check-in for my tasting and given a taste of white wine. I learned that arriving a bit early for your tasting allows you some time to walk around the grounds before your tasting begins. The owners made their money through the garden/nursery business, so the beauty and charm of the winery is by design. There is a bit of walking from the parking lot up to the tasting room. I did see golf carts zipping around, so if you have mobility issues, I'm sure they can accommodate you in getting around. I signed up for a group tasting, but was the only one during that time. It was probably just because it wasn't peak season and also midweek. Perhaps being the only one lead to my host being a bit cringy, but at times chatting with him was uncomfortable. The tour of the caves was really interesting. At the end of the tasting, I was left alone in a room, which I found kind of odd. I have a tendency to get lost, so not walking me back to the front seemed a little silly and also felt like a missed opportunity to get me to buy some wine. I did end up purchasing a couple bottles, but it was just so awkward to find my own way back and then navigate how to checkout. I still love their wine. I just wish the tasting experience was as amazing as the gardens and grounds.

Loved the cave tour and tasting here! But warning, it is pricey. Sadly, I did not enjoy any of the wines we tasted but our host Stephanie was super friendly, the property was gorgeous (tons of breathtaking views and photos to take), the tour was fun and interesting, which included going through their cave, and the food pairing was fun. Would recommend if you're looking for a beautiful estate with a fun tour!

Got to experience a private group dinner and tour here back in September and it was out of this world! The grounds are stunning, the tour and our host was fantastic and their Cabernets are just so so good. If you're lucky enough to be able to visit, I highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyThe best winery experience we've ever had.
Yes, the wine we tasted was top notch, but our host made the experience truly special. If you visit, do yourself a favor and try to get Michael as your host. Down to earth, friendly, insanely knowledgeable about wine, and the right level of involvement in our tasting. Thank you Michael for a great time and even better wine!

Could not recommend more! The wine tasting experience truly could not have been better. I'm not sure which tasting experience we chose but we got to the property and the wine barrels! This seriously was the perfect wine tasting experience from the wine, the service, and ambiance!!!! Could not recommend more
Be the first to ReplyWe really enjoyed this tour and tasting.
The place is beautiful and John was great. Wish the pours were a little more generous, but liked the cheese pairings.
Be the first to ReplyReally bad attitude from the security guy.
He wasn't friendly at all and really really mean. I don't recommend this place.

I wish I could give this place a negative star, which is my first time doing that on Yelp. This is the first winery ever in my life with a security guard. We were planning to come in and join the wine club based on what we heard, but they would not allow you in without a reservation. Well, fine then. We wanted to take photos from outside the property entrance and leave. The security guard was strict and a terrible guy with a lot of bad words I want to use. We took a photo but her purposely blocked the path. This is a bald older guy. If a place wants to be this exclusive, why advertise it publicly on social media? I feel like Far Niente is lying for this kind of stance on visitors and hiring an "A" security guard.
Be the first to ReplyI was very excited to come and experience Far Niente's
I was very excited to come and experience Far Niente's "most elevated experience", the Cave Collection Library wine tasting. It is a pricey tasting at $250pp but my assumption was that the 90m session was going to be amazing. Unfortunately there is a lot to be approved upon especially compared to competitor wine and food tastings. The grounds are beautiful and the first ~30m consisted of touring the wine caves. However, it was entirely history education without a single tasting or sip. We would have loved to be able to taste at least one vintage during this time. We then were escorted into a private room for the tasting. Five very light pours with a light Dolce pour at the end. The oldest vintage for Chardonnay was 2019 and for Cab it was 2014. Very surprising considering competitor library tastings typically offer older vintages. The food was good but a personal preference of mine would include a carb with the pate. None was given. Overall , the staff was nice and knowledgable. No one particularly blew us a way. The main takeaway is that this price point doesn't match the value.
Be the first to Reply10/10 recommend this winery.
Howard was exceptionally educated and friendly. We have experienced different wineries and this one, by far, blew our expectations. Howard made our experience. Again, 10/10 recommend.
Be the first to ReplyFar Niente is a beautiful winery.
As far as the tasting, the Dolce was amazing in taste. It was my favorite wine there. I have beautiful bottles of wine in my collection at home, and these two bottles are just as beautiful. Elias the manager elevated my experience, made it better
Be the first to ReplyWent here for the first time.
Quite pretentious. They meet you in the parking lot to tell you what you can and cannot do and where you can and cannot walk.
Be the first to ReplyTruly disappointing.
We visited on the second weekend in January. For Napa, this is a slow period. We were rushed through the tour because there was a large bridal party touring at the same time we were. Once seated, we had several glasses of wine in front of us and our host encouraged us to jump in and try them all. Over the next 30 minutes he was in and out of the tasting room we were in five times. I'm not sure where he was going but he wasn't very interested in us. At $125 per person this was in no way worth it. The wines were fine but the tasting experience was very "run of the mill". I'd put it on par with a knowledgeable bartender at a neighborhood wine bar. Spend your money someplace else and I'll bet they care more about your experience with them.
Be the first to ReplyI was really looking forward to Far Niente but left greatly
I was really looking forward to Far Niente but left greatly disappointed. I'm giving it 2 stars because the place was just beautiful. If you're looking for a picturesque place for the pictures, this place is it. My experience to why I left disappointed... Upon arrival, my friends and I were ushered into a room with a beautiful view of the vineyard. We were also given a tasting menu with "happy birthday" at the top, which was a very nice touch. Halfway through our tasting, we were told "no rush but I do have a group right after you". I was surprised and I checked the clock, it was only about 35 mins in. I asked "a party in this room?" because I was confused to why he mentioned it. He said no and left. We decided to take a couple group selfies since our tasting experience was almost at the end. Not even 15 mins after we were told "no rush", the receptionist came in and told us that we needed to go. We ended up talking to the manager. He was very nice and apologetic. He asked us to come back to visit one more time but I don't think I'll ever be back and I definitely won't recommend this place to anyone.

We reserved the high end tasting ($250 per person) that included food pairings. In advance I noted one in our party did not eat meat (only fish and dairy). While 3 of us had a delicious duck parfait, she was given the cracker that our duck was served on. As this was to pair with the red wine, I could have come up with dozens of non-meat alternatives to pair hers with red wine (a mole' parfait, a rich marinara paste or fondue, a savory "vegimite" style serving). while tasting the wine was fun...I was extremely disappointed with a very clear lack of effort (c'mon..the cracker?..and not homemade at that!). Far Niente...for the per person cost..just a little more effort was warranted.

It's an amazing experience with top of the line wine! We had had such a special time I felt like I was being treated like a princess! The tasting area is beautifully designed and very welcoming! Try it! Try the wine! It's all amazing!
Be the first to Reply5 stars for Far Niente Winery.
We visited October 1st for a tasting for party of 8. The service and wine was wonderful. We really enjoyed our time there and also enjoyed taking photos on the beautiful grounds. Marcos was our host and really did a great job. We look for to another visit soon.

Make your resy NOW! A taste of rose to stroll the gardens and then a quick peak at the gorgeous vintage Jaguars, Aston Martins, Bentleys and Porsches. Nice barn! The house is beautiful, but the walk though the wine tunnels was wonderful. The smells! The old wine making cellar that you can only view from the door way is amazing. This same place made wine in the 1860s until it was abandoned (Prohibition). The wise family that resurrected this treasure must be so proud. Beautiful views and beautiful wines. Dolce is a gift from the Gods. We had a nice experience with our host Shane.
Be the first to Reply5 stars for Curt.
5 stars for everything. It was an anniversary trip so we wanted it to be special. It surpasses our hopes. We loved it all.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful facility.
Cynthia at reception was very knowledgeable and accommodating. I questioned her on some of the historical significance of the building, and she was very knowledgeable. Darlene was our sommelier, host, and she also did a wonderful job. Will visit again for sure. I must see!
Be the first to ReplyEverything about this place is spectacular.
From driving down the entry lined with trees to the grounds to the wine. This was, hands down, the best experience I have had at a winery. Shane was our wine educator, and he was incredibly knowledgeable. He answered all our questions and helped us to understand the wine industry a little more. We didn't go into any facilities, simply had a tasting outside. I wish we could have done that, but there will definitely be a next time. The wine was amazing, the grounds were amazing. Don't skip this winery if you're out that way!
Be the first to ReplyI very much wanted a 5-star experience here but
I very much wanted a 5-star experience here but unfortunately did not have it. We did a tour & tasting. Upon arrival, we were checked in, handed a Chardonnay and walked over to meet our host. We met our host and he brought us down to the cave/cellars where he said NOTHING. He was either unwell, sick, or maybe high. It was definitely something. The entire experience in the beautiful caves was uncomfortable at best. We snapped one photo and got out of there. He guided us to a room for a tasting and said he would be right back with the wine. A few minutes later he came up and was confused where the wine was and went back to get it... However after this thankfully the tasting got MUCH better. We loved the wines and the grounds but feel so disappointed with our host for the day.

That is all I can say for this gorgeous winery. Beautiful breathtaking landscape. Great and funny tour guide. Enjoyed every moment of this tour.
