One of the best restaurants we tried during our trip to Boston. We sat at the chefs table, bar type seating directly in front of the kitchen. The chef was preparing dishes right in front of us. The speed and quality of the food coming out of that tiny, open kitchen is amazing. The service was impeccable as well. Might be our favorite Boston restaurant.

I need to go back immediately. First off- the restaurant is beautiful inside. Modern but also farmhouse vibes. I am not a huge fan of high tops but the food and experience made it all worth it. We have recently moved to the area and we have a love for trying out new spots. Coming to Fox and The Knife was a total experience. Our waiter was informative, impressive and he made our first time such a joy. I have thought about the food since we left on Sunday night. We started out with the chopped broccoli caesar salad, chili fried chickpeas and the stuffed focaccia. The salad was bursting with so much flavor and you could tell every ingredient was so fresh. The chickpeas got you hooked- such a unique thing to have on the menu. The focaccia was some of the best bread I have ever had in my life. Bolognese and the Mafaldini were dishes we would get again. Very solid, good portion sizes and had so many flavors. The pasta was a 10/10. Orange creamsicle shaved iced/ vanilla scoop was the actual perfect summer treat. It was the best way to end the dinner! Will 100000% be back.

The Pork Milanezza was sooo delicious! However the service was a bit chaotic. We had 3 people attend over the hour we were there.

I've eaten all over, but never have I been in an establishment that seems to know what i have ordered (even a year ago!) and bring over a complimentary little taste based on that (an amare). I was super impressed by that. Of course, the food, service and ambiance is impeccable as usual

The food was so yummy here! We got the clam spaghetti and the ravioli and both were so delicious. The portions were small but the waitress let us know that ahead of time so we got dessert as well. We got the blueberry lavender sorbet and a strawberry tarte. I also got an espresso martini. I appreciated that they asked whether I wanted that creamy or dark! Overall this was a nice classy dinner experience

I had an enjoyable dinner at Fox and the Knife with my mom tonight! It wasn't hard to get a reservation considering the popularity of this place, but we did come on a Thursday night and made it a few weeks in advance. Service was excellent. Our server was so nice and accommodating. All the dishes were paced very well- appetizers then entrees, dessert, etc. Did not feel rushed at all. I think they definitely have some standout menu items that are delicious but some others that are just average. The standouts I absolutely loved were the broccoli Caesar and the focaccia. Get those!! We didn't try any of the pastas but I think they are supposed to be good as well. Overall, great meal, great service, and nice atmosphere.

Had a fantastic time eating here last year and we were super excited to return on our July 4th trip to Boston. Made reservations months in advance for Friday night on a Holiday weekend. Once we arrived, we found it odd that it was 8pm on Friday and 3/4 of the restaurant was empty. Once we sat down, we quickly noticed how hot it was and why no one was there. The hostess then informed us that the AC had broken that morning and their limited outside seating was booked for the night. This restaurant has an open kitchen, so with no AC it felt like you were sitting in a commercial kitchen. At least 90 degrees where we were seated. I'm the first person to understand when stuff like this happens but absolutely zero responsibility was taken by anyone on the staff. They even had the audacity to not bring us water for over 10mins when they were fully staffed and 1/2 the restaurant was empty! We ended up getting up and leaving along with the two tables next to us. It was just TOO HOT and I find it absurd that they found out in the morning and couldn't even be bothered to run to target and grab some fans. ZERO effort made to address the issue, apologize or make it right to their customers. No call beforehand to the reservations which they had both phone numbers and email addresses for. I can only imagine how many Friday night dinner plans (and uber $$) during the holiday weekend were ruined. Everywhere decent was fully booked by the time we walked out at 8:30 and we ended up having to go back to our hotel's restaurant (the AC was pumping though!!). The worst part of the experience is that we really loved this place before and looked forward to making it a stop on every trip, but due to this experience we will never be returning. I unfortunately might be seeing the downfall of yet another amazing restaurant due to poor service and management.
Be the first to ReplyI NEVER write a negative review that isn't based on food.
This will be the first....My wife and I made a reservation here about a month ago to celebrate our anniversary. We knew we'd be in Boston only 2 nights, and Fox and The Knife came highly recommended. We got there at 8pm for our 8:15 reservation and when we checked in, the hostess told us the restaurant had no air conditioning- that it had died that morning. Ok- we will wait for an outside table. "The patio is fully reserved by regulars." Seriously? You've known all day that the interior of your restaurant was well over 100 degrees (OPEN KITCHEN!) and you didn't let us know? We sat down for about three minutes before bailing. It was just too damn hot. That's not cool at all- pun intended.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place.
5/5 went solo and ate at the bar. Great cozy bar vibe with open kitchen. A little noisy though The theme here is simple dishes with fresh ingredients. Non pretentions. just a whole lotta love in the food. Proof you dont need foie gras or truffles in every dish to be delicious. Started with the liver mousse 5/5 came with with some well done flavorful crispy bread to spread on. The mousse was very delicate and creamy. No mineral taste at all just savory and delicious 2nd was the broccoli Caesar. Charred crispy broccoli with a lovely cesser dressing. Full of flavor and delicious aged parmesan cheese. Very simple and very delicious 5/5 tagliatelle bolognese was my main course. The wild boar was also very delicate. Light flavor wish it was a bit more bold but still delicious. The pasta was perfectly cooked and had a very light spice to it. Small portion but still filled me up 4.5/5 Dessert I had some strawberry dish on tope of some croissants like base. It was simple reaching light and absolutely delicious. It is seasonal for summer so get this before it's gone. I will come here again and highly recommend everyone who comes here 5/5

This place is outstanding!!!! The minute we walked in we immediately felt welcomed. Chef Karen was very approachable and pleasant to talk with. We sat at the bar for a drink and couple small plate appetizers. House made Ricotta with toasted bread and Brussel Sprouts. Both were incredible. We were lucky to sit at the Kitchen Bar after a cancellation. We mentioned it to the hostess earlier in the evening and she remembered. While sitting there watching Chef Matt and the crew go to work we enjoyed the focaccia, the chickpeas, linguine and clams raviolo and chicken under the brick. It was all delicious, linguine and clams had a delicious flavor, sweer juicy clams and fresh pasta was unbelievable. Raviolo was good but my only criticism would be the edges may have been slightly undercooked, aside from that it was very good. Chicken stole the show. So tender along with a buttery brashed escarole. Must have been thanked 10 different times by 10 different people on our way out. Truly exceptional customer service cant wait to go back. PS Ashley was fantastic
Be the first to ReplyI love it here.
Everyone always makes you feel so welcome. The food is always delicious and the service is always good. When my friend and I go we always get the broccoli Cesar, focaccia bread and I have to have the pork milanese. Such a fan of this restaurant and Karen :)
Be the first to ReplyThis is not your typical Italian restaurant.
When you walk in you see no Italian decor nor do you get the vibe that you are in an Italian restaurant. However, once you start eating you can envision being in any province in Italy sampling this food and pairing it with a nice wine, of which they have many. It is a very casual place with friendly, chatty and very knowledgeable staff. We sampled about 6 different foods/dishes and everything was superb! I especially recommend the homemade ricotta. 5 stars! Also, I recommend you sit at the chef's counter. Not only will you see the action but the chefs will answer any question you have and help you make menu decisions.

Last Friday, I flew into Boston to visit nearby family for a few days. I opted to stay overnight in the city specifically to be able to eat at Fox and The Knife with my mother and 12yo nephew - and it was so worth it! TLDR: If you can go, DO. We were seated up front, in the far corner, at a high-top between the window and the bar. The decor was classy without being fussy and it is tight quarters but not uncomfortable. The lighting was a bit too dark for my tastes; if I hadn't been studying the menu for weeks I don't think I would have been able to read it, and none of our food photos came out looking good which was a shame. But that's literally the only minor negative I have about the whole night. Our waiter, Fernando, greeted us and asked if we were there for any special occasion. I'm usually not a talker at these moments, but I couldn't contain my excitement and told him how much we'd been looking forward to coming. My nephew confessed I'd been showing him Chef Karen's TOC battles that afternoon to prepare. It wasn't long after that a manager (I am kicking myself that I didn't ask for her name - I don't know if she was the general manager, but I wouldn't doubt it) came over to ask my nephew if she could make a special drink for him - he was a bit shy about agreeing but she drew him out asking about his favorite flavors, etc. and came back to make him a rasberry lime fizzy drink in a pineapple glass - complete with a magic trick that he is STILL talking about. Fernando came back to take our orders - bietola & burrata for me, broccoli 'caesar' for my Mom - and was impressed when my nephew ordered the carne cruda. My Mom, who is never shy about chatting, told him my nephew has been cooking since he was a toddler and is very interested in restaurants and food (all very true). Shortly, the lovely manager came back over to ask my nephew why no one had told her there was a junior chef at the table! She stayed and chatted with him about her philosophy of learning about wine by tasting everything. He was totally fascinated. Our appetizers arrived and they were delicious and beautiful. Burrata is one of my favorite things ever and paired with the chiffonade chard, crispy shallots, and walnut vinaigrette it was really wonderful. Mom enjoyed her broccoli and my nephew described his carne cruda thusly: "the toast was toasted perfectly, and what was on top was undescribably delicious." Entrees next - I had the tagliatelle bolognese, Mom had the pork milanese, and nephew the agnolotti with braised beef in a roasted carrot butter and white miso sauce that he described as "immaculous." Mom loved her pork - could not stop gushing about how crispy and enormous it was (nephew ate half, hahah). I was honestly not sure I was going to like my entree as I've never had boar and am not always adventurous when it comes to meat, but I really really wanted to try the housemade tagliatelle. I am SO GLAD I took the chance because it was rich, and earthy, and the sauce was unctuous without being heavy. I ate every bit of it and probably would have made myself happily sick if there had been more. The lovely manager stopped by a couple more times to check in on us and chat with my nephew. I really think this will go down as one of the best nights of his young life - one he'll remember when he's my ancient age. As a doting auntie, naturally this made everything even better for me, too! He and I ordered dessert - olive oil chocolate cake with whipped cream and pistachio brittle for me, some sort of fragrant baked apple pastry thing for him. Neither of us could even eat half, but they were delicious. I loved how my cake was hardly sweet at all, and the pistachio brittle should be sold by the pound! While waiting for the check, nephew walked back down towards the open kitchen to get a look at the chefs working. The manager spotted him and told him who everyone was and what they were doing. She even introduced him to Chef Matthew Holland and nephew got a fist bump that sent him over the moon. Seriously - he had the HUGEST smile all night! I got the bill while he was having his moment and it was shocking how UNshocking the total was - really really reasonable considering we were having first class food and a lot of it. Conclusion: If the atmosphere had been less than stellar, the food would have been worth it. If the food had been "just ok", the dining experience would have been worth it. Together - it was really a night and a meal to remember. Chef Karen has always, on TV, seemed to be a warm, welcoming, open-hearted and generous type of person and her restaurant absolutely radiates those same qualities. We were treated like family - the type of family you haven't seen for a while and are excited to have around. The food was some of the best I have ever had - top 4 meals of my life. If I lived closer, I would go back at any and every opportunity. I really cannot recommend it highly enough.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, very friendly staff, delicious food.
Nothing noteworthy to complain about. We sat at the chefs counter and loved it.
Be the first to ReplyTo set the tone, there were tampons in the MEN'S bathroom.
***EXTREMELY SMALL PORTIONS FOR THE PRICE*** We had the bolognese which was delicious but like 3 bites each. Then we had the chicken which was very good but a little salty and came over some salty wilted greens. they could've added a few potatoes as a side. Don't come here unless you're with someone very rich otherwise you will leave hungry!! The food was safe for my gluten allergy, but there was a shared fryer so anything fried was off limits due to cross contact. So there really werent that many menu options for me. I really would've wanted the house made ricotta or burrata but they didn't have gf bread or crackers? Why be good at allergy safety but not go the extra step?
Be the first to ReplyHad an item from each section of the menu.
I forgot all their names. BUT I do remember the flavors were there, and I really enjoyed their take on fish. Service was a little slow but it was packed. Ambiance was good - very modern and intimate.
Be the first to ReplyMy girlfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day dinner
My girlfriend and I came here for Valentine's Day dinner and had a wonderful time. We had a reservation in advance and sat at the bar. The restaurant is dim and provides a romantic ambience. It is a little bit loud, but not terribly so. The bar tender made our drinks with care and they were delicious! For dinner, we ordered the potato chips, prosciutto, focaccia, broccoli Caesar salad, mushroom pasta and the spaghetti con vogole. All the food we ordered tasted amazing and the pastas were perfectly cooked with great presentation. Each noodle was al dente and not overly salted. There were two things I had a gripe about: the pastas took quite a while to come out after our appetizers, and second, the potato chips we ordered were Lay's chips. Not that I have a problem with Lay's, but I would have thought a restaurant of this caliber would have their own homemade potato chips. The menu did not specify that the chips were Lay's. Overall, it was a nice experience but I felt a little let down by the chips. I would come back for the pasta!

Came here for my birthday last weekend with no expectations and left full and happy! We tried a handful of entrees and one dessert and almost every dish was pretty phenomenal and I also loved their martini! Service was awesome and I plan to take my in-laws here the next time they visit!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing.
They earned their michelin star for a reason. I ordered the branzino and it was incredible. Perfectly cooked and beyond delicious. I went here for my birthday and they even printed out a personalized happy birthday menu for me which I kept. I also loved the focaccia appetizer too. The chips were pretty good and a total bargain. But the rest of the menu is pretty expensive but I'd say its worth it.
Be the first to ReplyWOW! A new Italian favorite.
Service: 5/5, Talia was one of the highlights of the night-- spontaneous, thoughtful, energetic, timely, and delightful presence.- prompt food and seating (with reservation)Ambience: 5/5, open kitchen concept meets classy dining, w room for all dress codes- gorgeous toilets (with mints, floss, and tide sheets!)Food: 5/5, I'm an admittedly harsh critic who simply couldn't fault the food. From the brussel sprouts and broccoli salad, to the bacon ravioli, clam spaghetti, pork chop, cappuccino, espresso martini, olive oil chocolate cake... perfection! Flavor palates never pretentious, simply delicious and well done!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious late supper had to check out.
Located in South Boston. I love thé chefs food from Myers and Chang so I definitely wanted to check her own solo restaurant where it's inspired by her time in Italy. Gives a dim casual energy with nice wait staff. A good selection of foods to choose from with great dishes that make you want to come back and try them again or other dishes.

Why have I not eaten here sooner? This was perhaps the best meal I've had in Boston. For real. We started with the stuffed focaccia and it blew our minds. We then moved onto the burrata salad which had so many complex flavor pairings. Sidebar: I got an Amaro flight because how often can you get an Amaro flight? I asked for help picking out my Amaros and the bartender/Amaro expert was incredible. I should add here that this place has a beer/wine/cordial license which means their drinks are more sweet than they are strong. This feels like an important/ unique fact to throw in there. We then ordered three pastas. The tortellini was the best dish of the night. All four of us said that we experienced the perfect bite so of course we ordered it again. That's right, we ordered the dish for a second time. Our waitress Angela was fantastic. She normally works at their sister location, Bar Volpe, but we were lucky enough to snag her for the evening. All around wonderful experience. Every detail, every bite and every interaction with the staff was delightful.

From the time we arrived until we departed, the staff were warm, attentive, and personable. The food was outstanding, we asked for and received great recommendations, each dish was perfect. Cocktails were delicious, smooth, and it made for a perfect anniversary dinner.
Be the first to ReplyThis place was a 10/10.
The service was great, the food was impeccable, and it was very cute inside. Our waitress Jenni was awesome. She gave us an entire breakdown of the menu from start to finish and had some great recommendations. The way she described the dishes/wines was impressive, especially because she was spot on with her descriptions.Everything we had was SO delicious! We ate a decent amount of food including dessert and didn't feel grossly full afterwards - which is how you know they're using quality ingridients in their kitchen. The burrata salad with greens & shallots and spaghetti vongole were my favorite dishes. So many flavors! I will definitely return to try more of the menu.
