French Alpine Bistro - Crêperie du Village Aspen Reviews
This was one of the most appalling dining experiences.
From the drinks to the service to the seating and ambiance. Every cocktail we ordered was wrong. Starting with a grey goose dirty martini - the bartender used a cocktail shaker that had not been cleaned after making a mezcal drink, so it came smelling and tasting like mezcal. We ordered an espresso martini - specifically without baileys - and it came with baileys. We ordered wine since the cocktails were such a fail, and the waiter spilled the wine. Multiple dishes showed up to our table that we had not ordered. The waiter was underwhelming and subpar, and considering how much went wrong with our experience, we were shocked he did nothing or was at least a bit more friendly and attentive to make up for it. ESPECIALLY given the restaurant was quite empty. I would hate see what it's like here when it's actually busy. Across the board, the entire staff was rude and entitled. This place is not at all worth the price and I would highly recommend avoiding it.
One of the best places in Aspen .
I've been here many times and it never disappoints. . Our servers tonight, Juan and Alex , were terrific ! The food , service and ambiance was a 10 !
The Eispalatschinke crepe made me see god.
Okay, so this place is absolutely amazing and situated perfectly. A small little restaurant below ground that is decorated immaculately to make you feel right at home. The staff are just incredible. They are fast, friendly and really help each other check on patrons to make sure you are taken care of. Finally the food, can i get a hallelujah!!! Everything was incredibly fresh, hand made and absolutely delicious. The Gazpacho was perfect for a warm summer day and you could really savor the flavors. The Boeuf Bourguignon was so tender it just melted in your mouth and the sauce was the best I've had. Now the crepe I've mentioned, it is my new favorite dessert ever and was executed flawlessly. Food is art not only in presentation and this was a Picasso/Rembrandt/Monet all in one. That pistachio ice cream with the fluffy crepe was a religious experience. I'll be driving the three hours just to get it again soon.
French Alpine was a fantastic dining experience! My husband
French Alpine was a fantastic dining experience! My husband and I came for our honeymoon and enjoyed the escargot bisque, fondue for 2, and we split a wagyu burger. The escargot came already shelled and in the bisque. They were cooked well and not chewy at all. The fondue for two had an interesting taste. I enjoyed the fondue, but my husband was not very fond of it. It came with apples, bread, and pickles to dip in the pot. My favorite was the bread. The wagyu burger is the reason why we were only able to give our visit four stars. While we enjoyed the burger, the meat lacked flavor even though it had a garlic aïoli sauce on it. I also enjoyed an espresso martini and it was absolutely amazing! The service was great and the ambience was very interesting and cozy. Note: I wouldn't bring children/teenagers to this restaurant due to the pictures that are hung on the walls/particularly the bathroom. Our dining experience was a while ago, so maybe they've changed the decor in there since then. I am unsure. Also, the seating is very close together
Fantastic dinner at French Alpine Bistro tonight.
This was our second visit and it did not disappoint. Great service from Juan in a rustic and comfortable atmosphere. The Coq au Vin and Beef bourguignon were especially good, and the dessert crepes were perfect. Highly recommended option in Aspen!
I can't remember a more memorable meal with my wife.
The service was incredible. Preemptive with everything. Moved inside when rain came so we got to sit both outside and inside. Very cozy and unique inside. Had scallops with a saffron sauce that blew me away. My wife couldn't stop eating the sauce. I believe she had the mussels which were fresh, perfectly done, and in a lights-out broth.

My friend and I came here for some drinks and had the most friendly experience. Our server Juan was fun, kind, and clearly wanted us to have a nice night together. The outdoor tables were beautiful and it was great for catching up, people watching, and enjoying the weather. Everyone was great, and the hostess Sofia was also so friendly, even on our way out. I'll come back for sure.

I went in for Happy Hour and ordered a tonic water with lime to drink. I have been sober for a long time....and was brought a gin and tonic. I told the waiter this has alcohol in it--he said no. I told him to smell it. He then took it to the bartender and asked him. The bartender had put gin in it.... The bartenders friend at the end of the bar said.."eh, things happen." Not sure why he felt the need to chime in. The waiter peppered me with questions: Are you sober, how long have you been sober (!) It was very inappropriate. The food was ok, but I won't be going back.
Cheese fondue in a cozy atmosphere
I’ve eaten here a couple of times within the past year and find it to be a great place to enjoy classic cheese fondue. While pricy, it’s a meal in itself when you order it with accompaniments of apples, broccoli and cauliflower and cornichons in addition to the standard cubed bread. The restaurant is small, and space is at a premium, it feels cozy with an eclectic decor. We arrived without a reservation (since one could not be had online), and were seated at a tiny table just big enough to hold our food. Service was fast and we were out in time to make our concert. Terrific choice when you’re in the mood for fondue!
Way overrated spot for fine dining
We went there for my wife’s birthday. Insanely expensive for what you get . They brought wrong drinks. Two of us ordered two different red wines by glass. When asked which one is which . They had no idea. They popped open sparkling water when specifically asked for tap water. I realize high end dining meal size is not much, but it was at a different level in this place. Waitress was abrupt and rude to an extent. Would not waste my money and time at this place ever. Amazed with good reviews here.
We had a great time at this restaurant.
Equally great was the service by Juan. He was efficient, patient and attentive. Food was terrific! We'll be back soon. -Peter & Sonia Dw.

- Came for their happy hour - Regular menu is quite pricey (as is most places in Aspen) - The decor inside is very unique, gives you a cozy feeling - They have outdoor seating - The french onion soup is ok - The steak tartare is huge and very filling. Saw a picture on here with fries but now it comes with chips - The HH burger was incredibly misleading. Their instagram photo is MUCH better than the real thing - The burger comes with chips not fries, the menu said it came with tomato but all we got was bun + patty + cheese. How do you forget an ingredient lol - All servers were very friendly, the food came out fast - Since it's a small space, there's a gust of wind every time someone comes in and out
Festive and delicious!
Love this place! It’s small and crowded with a fun, eclectic decor. Staff are helpful and accommodating. Best of all, the food is excellent! We were eating light so only had the cheese fondue with apples, bread, and roasted cauliflower and broccoli to dip. Delicious! We were so full that we took home the salad we’d ordered.
Delicious!
Delicious!!! Great service and a fun atmosphere. The food steals the show and the fondue is amazing - always have to come here when in Aspen
Had an experience at this restaurant that was one of the
Had an experience at this restaurant that was one of the worst I have EVER experienced at a restaurant in my many years of dining out. We were a party of 7 but were told we had to pre order on the phone and order a minimum of $200 per person order for us to hold the table. They do not have many large tables. It's a small restaurant. OK no problem we were willing to do that. Having never been there, and not knowing their portion sizes, we followed the lead of the woman who helped us pre-order on the phone. She misguided us to over order in the most absurd way. We had enough food to feed about 20 people. It was ridiculous. The food seemed to all come out at once. It kept coming and coming. The table was not even big enough for the plates. The portions are very large. We were thinking French bistro is usually smaller portions. We trusted that the representative from the restaurant would know how large their portions were and that she would help us order appropriately. Well she didn't. In fact she encouraged more and more food to the order. We felt totally violated as though we had been robbed. Truth is with wine and drinks we would have easily met the minimum with a more sensible order. We received a phone call from the rep at the restaurant before arrival telling us that one of the items we ordered was out of stock. We suggested that we just eliminate it from the order and she said "no I think you need it" and she replaced it with a crepe that had cheese and ham topped with an egg. One of those may have been ok. They brought 3! In fact they brought 3 of most of the items. Some of the appetizers came in orders of two. It was CRAZY. At that point it didn't matter how good the food was or how good the service was because we felt like we had been robbed. Everything else was eclipsed by the fact that we were deceived. We could hardly enjoy the food because we had so much of everything. We were full after the appetizers and still had multiple dishes to come and multiple servings of each dish to come. We ended up taking it home to our rental and staying in the next night (robbing us yet again of a different experience out at another restaurant that we would could have enjoyed) and reheating everything which worked just OK. Of course, none of it tasted very good the next day especially because we still had a very bad bitter taste in our mouth from a horrible experience that we had at the Alpine French bistro. yes, this was our choice, but it was also one way we could make each other feel somewhat better about the fleece job we received at the bistro . We were a table of seven and each one of us had to pay $390 per person. I'll NEVER go back. If it's the best food in town (which it is not) I'll never go back. I do not care how charming their server is, how quaint the atmosphere, or how good the food is. BTW the food was just OK. We go to Aspen every year and there are so many other great restaurants to go to! Bye Bye Alpine French Bistro. I will forever cringe when I think about your restaurant.
One of our very favorite to dine in Aspen.
Cozy and very delicious French dining and always with the best hospitality. We love them.
One of my favorite meals in Aspen! Sharing the cheese
One of my favorite meals in Aspen! Sharing the cheese fondue with a group was absolutely delicious and four people easily split a portion for two which I would definitely recommend as it is pretty big and rich. The truffle gnocchi was a shining star and was so rich I thought about it the rest of the day. The coq au vin was good and I'm glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again over the beef which was so tender and simply melted in our mouths.
This is a must-visit during your Aspen trip.
Food great, service is top-notch, and it has the best vibes and atmosphere in the city. It's ultra small, so make reservations way in advance. You could also try the happy hour from 3-5 for a great discount on the burger and French onion soup.
Could have been unforgettable
Nice food in a small and very unique place in its decoration - perhaps a bit cluttered - with the criticism that the tables are very close together, and the customers seated close to you have to ask for the table to be moved in order to get up from their seats. Expensive. The staff's attention is average and doesn't stand out for friendliness, and even when serving the wine, the manner was not correct, something that should be learned in a place of such level.
We were not impressed.
The French onion soup was awful. We left after that as onion soup is hard to mess up. It's a really cute restaurant though.
Now THIS was the Aspen dining experience that I've been
Now THIS was the Aspen dining experience that I've been anticipating! The place itself is AMAZING...so lush in its French and rustic chic decor-ambiance, with the perfect French music overhead. Pictures just didn't do justice to the overall vibe you get here...totally Aspen! Hate to use the word again, but their menu was also amazing...so many tantalizing choices, I had a hard time choosing. However, I finally decided to try one of their crepes (think it's what they're famous for?)...Nirvana, which was this Thai-influenced savory crepe. From its exquisite presentation to taste, that Nirvana crepe was truly heavenly. I also had to try one of their crepe desserts as well...and at the recommendation of the Manager (?), I decided to go for their "Midnight in Paris", which was this crepe w/ vanilla creme brulee custard and crispy caramel. Yummm!! I also tried their cocktail, Pink Panther...and it was quite good. Somehow I expected a bit more from this though. Service was top notch. From the moment you enter the door, you definitely get the sense that you're at a 5-star restaurant. These 3 items for lunch totaled 95 bucks (including tip)...and I wasn't even mad lol. Unlike some other Aspen restaurants I've been to, I felt that the foods, service and the ambiance actually merited the lofty pricing here. This was the 5-star Aspen dining experience that I've been looking for...so now I feel that I've finally experienced one of the best things in Aspen!
Incredible and Aspen to its core.
The vibe at French Alpine Bistro is unbeatable, from the cozy decor, to the open kitchen it has a very luxurious but inviting interior. Keep in mind the small space does get quite chilly when the front door is being opened and closed often. The service was great, only slightly strange thing was main courses were brought out with appetizers but it wasn't a huge issue. The standout dishes were - raclette - coq au vin - Beef Bourgnon - green curry crepe - Nutella crepe

All I can say is wow! If you go to one place to have a great dining experience in Aspen go to this place!!! Food, atmosphere and people are amazing....special nod to Camila for her love of this place and making sure the customers (me) make feel the same!!!
Everyone was really nice.
The ambience was beautiful and the Seabass was amazing. I will most likely come back.
Best meal in Aspen
We ate extremely well in Aspen but this was my pick. Every dish was faultless and incredibly tasty. The best French onion soup that you will ever eat. Don’t miss the crepes for dessert
Worth every centimeter of this tiny restaurant
Ultra tiny restaurant, but with a truly french ambiance…. I felt like in WW II underground place… dim lights, french old music, few tables, packed with people….and amazing food….. everything is sooooo good!! You must try it!
We are visiting Aspen in January and were helped by Valeska
We are visiting Aspen in January and were helped by Valeska to get our reservation sorted. Perfect service from A to Z, can't wait to dine and be blown away. Thank you!
Don’t miss this!
Everyone we asked recommended French Alpine Bistro- and it did not disappoint! Juan took great care of us! The food was amazing, atmosphere was best in Aspen, and the service was unsurpassed! Don’t miss this!!
Shocking customer service from the hostess team
Unfortunately, we did not have the best experience at French Alpine Bistro. We saved this dining experience for our last night in Aspen, as we had heard it was supposed to be a special restaurant. We took our time exploring the menu, starting with cocktails and French onion soup. We later ordered the fondue, which was delicious. There was an extremely rude hostess (blonde/brown hair, wearing an orange turtleneck on Saturday 10/7) that cleared our fondue dishes. We told her we would like to talk with our server, Emiliano (who was fabulous), and order the Midnight in Paris because it had come highly recommended. She announced loudly that "your table was for 1 hr and 45 minutes and you have been here over two hours. We need to give your table to another guest and you cannot order dessert". There is nothing on the website that mentions a time limit and we were never informed of a time limit upon checking in for our reservation. Furthermore, this reservation was made by the concierge team at the St. Regis Aspen, who was also never notified of a time limit. I told her that this was a special weekend trip for my mother, and that we were excited to order the Midnight in Paris as it was recommended from a prior manager of the French Alpine Bistro (Bradley). She said she would need to speak to the manager and get back to us. She never returned. Five minutes later, a dessert showed up on our table. We felt extremely uncomfortable, ate our dessert and left as soon as we could pay the bill. The servers were lovely but we will never forget the way we were treated or made to feel by this particular hostess. As patrons of many fine dining establishments, we have never been treated this way before. We would have respected a time limit if we had been informed, but we were never made aware and then shamed into leaving as soon as possible in front of other guests (the outside patio is quite small). We returned to our hotel and told the concierge team at the St. Regis and they were stunned. They then asked if the dessert was comped, we said no. They were speechless. We are happy to pay in full, but no one came over to even apologize for this individual's behavior. It put a damper on our last evening and we will not be returning or recommending this restaurant to our many friends that frequent Aspen, as well as will be writing an email to the concierge team at the St. Regis to no longer advise their guests to dine there.
Cramped, rushed dinner, poor food, decent service, over priced
Rushed us through 2 courses in 45mins, couple next to us had just been served as we finished. Food poor, we both had a thick gloopy French onion soup and bland coq au vin consisting of a quarter of slimy chicken, more overly thick sauce, small portion of mash and one slice of carrot for $58 a serving! I know Aspen is v expensive but I really did not think this worth anything like the money.
Fantastic bistro!
This is a wonderful little French bistro tucked in downtown Aspen. The ambience filled with fun eclectic decor makes the amazing dishes that much sweeter! You can sit out with heaters and plush blankets or have a cozy spot inside.
Birthday Celebration
We were welcomed to this cozy romantic restaurant with a glass of champagne to celebrate our birthdays. This was a nice touch as most restaurants don't pay attention to the extras in online bookings. We had the fondue with charcuterie, and it was amazing and so filling we didn't end up ordering a main course. They have an excellent wine list, and our server was fantastic. He helped us pick our pistachio crepe dessert, and it was so good we wished we had room for another one! Overall, it was a really great experience and we will return!
Aspen’s Best Restaurant
We tried this restaurant last fall and were impressed, so it was our first stop on our annual visit to Aspen this year. We certainly weren’t disappointed! Our server, Amy, did a great job, and we loved the Moules-Mariniére (the mussels were delicious). The Big Apple (Crêpe with caramelized apple, Calvados, a touch of cinnamon, topped with crunchy almond-walnut streusel and vanilla bean ice-cream) is a terrific dessert. We’re returning for my wife’s birthday. Highly recommend!
Loved everything about this place!
We loved everything about this restaurant- food, service, ambiance. All 4 of us agreed that it’s our favorite restaurant in Aspen. We will be back for sure! Great job!!!! Decor is very creative and cool.
Ambiance is straight out of France.
Food is amazing. Drinks are incredible. Favorite spot in Aspen
I visited friends in Colorado and stopped in for dinner.
The staff were amazing. Our server was funny and attentive, although his suggestion for my drink could not have been more off, but i am pretty sure he was messing with me. (All in good fun). The food and other drinks and wine were spot on. We ended up sitting in a small, heated outside area with another family, and by the end of dinner, we were great friends. We had the cheese fondue, which was rich and delicious and so filling. The next time I am in the area , we are definitely stopping in again.
I've eaten here a few times and I I'll continue to go back
I've eaten here a few times and I I'll continue to go back when I'm in Aspen. It's a very quaint space. You'll need to book a reservation well in advance. If you enjoy French food, you'll enjoy your meal.
Delicious food, incredible crepes & Best French Onion
Delicious food, incredible crepes & Best French Onion soup!! Service was excellent! A small quaint & romantic spot, beautifully decorated!!
Great fondue
The restaurant is very small and as people enter and leave the cold wind blasts through. Kind of disappointing to pay the high prices and have to wear your winter coat just so you don't freeze. Food was great, service mediocre. Had much better dining experience at other restaurants in town.
Phenomenal vibes and setting! The best part.
Really feels like a cozy French ski apres bistro. Great onion soup and loved the Midnight in Paris crepe. Service nice but a bit slow. Waiter wasn't very attentive.
Loved the ambience and the food.
The fondue and the gnocchi both were phenomenal. Would definitely come here when we visit Aspen again.
A hidden gem in Aspen.
The decor of this restaurant speaks to its French theme. It is a small place underneath the Radio ski shop but that shouldn't be a deterrent. You can sit at a bar but they have one large table for large groups, so you'll need a reservation. The service was excellent and so was the food. Their menu is expansive! Hard to think how they could have so many different dishes. As many have said the French Onion soup is a MUST! Falling back on my Italian roots I had the Truffle Nookies (Knochis to those who aren't Italian) which were flavored deliciously. I've had a lot in my day and these were immaculate. Although I sat at the bar, the manager made sure I was attended to the moment I closed my menu, and were very accessible. When I come to a place like Aspen, this is what I'm looking for, not all the cookie cutter steak houses and other restaurants that are more plastic than my skis! A great way to start or end any vacation to Aspen Mountain.
We got there a little early before our reservation.
It's located downstairs and easy to walk past if you are walking at night. This place gets booked up pretty quickly. I used open table app. Service was a little awkward in the beginning since it's such a tight space and they had to sit us outside at the "bar" to accommodate our early arrival. The decor is very interesting I believe it's a Victorian style. Very close and intimate seating. You will rub elbows with your neighbors. Only two options for beer either the local aspen brewery ipa or corona. My husband said the hazy ipa was pretty good had a fruity taste to it. Pink panther cocktail was refreshing and sweet with hints of floral. Steak tartare was standard but the crostini gave it great texture. Boeuf bourguignon was a little on the bland side if you are familiar with beef pot roast that's pretty much what you are ordering Apple cinnamon crepe was huge wasn't expecting that. That really filled us up. Fluffy and buttery crepe with a nice and warm apple cinnamon and cool vanilla bean ice cream to finish our meal. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for me was the French fries. It had an outer crunch layer to it kind of like double fried. It was very hot when it came out. The perfect combination you need for ideal French fries. Overall, Service from Federico was great even with how busy it was. The price is definitely on the high side for the quality of food you get.
Aspen treat
This is a small restaurant that serves good, authentic French bistro food. Prices were reasonable for Aspen, service was great, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and friendly.
Honestly the worst meal we have had in a while.
We were cramped into a ridiculous space piled with pillows that we had to hand the servers as there were four in our space I assume from surrounding tables. I truly could not move my elbows we were so cramped. Then came the food. It was honestly disgusting. The beef was all fat and completely flavorless. The escargot was in a weird sauce that tasted like canned tomato soup. Over all gross restaurant that I highly recommend avoiding at all costs.
Came here with friends and family.
Great food, but I especially loved the creme brûlée crepe. Classy atmosphere, and beautiful decor.
Anniversary
Do not go Over whelming pressure to order and leave $400 later on her 40th wedding anniversary multiple charges for a wine we did not have ??? Aspen
Excellent food, atmosphere and service!
The French Alpine Bistro has excellent food and warm Swiss mountain chalet atmosphere. The fondu, French onion soup, gnocchi, wagu burger, and dessert crepes were all superb! The service is also top notch! The space is a little small but it is well worth putting up with being a little cramped.
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere
The food and service were absolutely amazing! The decor was also amazing, very small and cozy room. The food itself was DIVINE! If you are there the Fondue is an absolute must have! But if your in a tight food budget this place will clean out your wallet. But the food is worth the price.
Lovely lunch in Aspen
We enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the Alpine Bistro. The food was tasty but not quite as extraordinary as we’ve enjoyed on prior visits. The ambiance very relaxing. Our server was very attentive without being intrusive. All in all, it was a very nice experience.
