Great spot for brunch.
Nice homey feel inside. AC was quite strong and we were cold most of the meal. Served family style and we ordered 5 dishes for 3 people which was more than enough. A great mix of flavors and options. Food was a 5/5. Service left a lot to be desired. It took a long time for drinks to come out and we rarely saw our server except to ask if we needed anything. It looked like they were handling quite a lot of tables, so this is understandable. Would go back!
Be the first to ReplyHappy hour here is truly a happy place.
...half price bubbles ($25) and a smash burger, plus that crazy good dip with the fish roe (bourbon barrel smoked trout roe, chives, onion dip, sweet potato chips). Hells yeah! The only thing this place is missing is French fries. That smash burger would be so much more amazing if it was served with fries. Brunch is also very good. Sorry to hear that they are closing. I was happy that they were still one of the few places requiring proof of vaccination. I know some people thought this was a political move, but for me as a scientist working in pharma, this was a smart health move. I was happy to know that I was dining in a location that was a safe zone for the most part. Still wore my mask but didn't mind them asking for proof of vaccination. So sorry to see them go as we had some great times dining there. They did the neighborhood proud.

OMG! This place is amazing!! I'm so bummed they are closing but extremely happy I was able to try it. If you're able to get in before they close, GO GO GO! Beef Heart skewers were so delicious. The salmon was the cooked perfectly. Atmosphere was so fun and service was A+
Be the first to ReplyI was sorry to hear this establishment will be closing.
I visited frequently pre-pandemic, and I did my best to enjoy post-pandemic. They had a great menu and the food was well prepared and presented. Unfortunately, nearly two years after the pandemic began, they still insisted on patrons showing their vaccination cards prior to being seated. I am vaccinated, and I can understand originally implementing the policy and keeping it for a time after the courts found mandates to be unconstitutional. But two years into the pandemic, it became a little silly. I can recall several instances where we would have dined at Gadabout but went elsewhere to avoid the politics at the door, so to speak. I know of many people living in Andersonville that refused to patronize Gadabout for the very same reason. I respect the ownership's decision and right to inject politics into their entry requirement. Unfortunately, I think that is part of the reason they have to close. And that is a shame because it was a great place. I hope they open another establishment soon. Great food, great ambience, and just a little too pushy with their political beliefs. But I would definitely give their next venture a try.

One of the best restaurants in Chicago! Absolutely love everything about Gadabout, from the creative dishes to the sustainable concept. So devastating it is closing - do yourself a favor and come before it closes on Nov 27th! You will not be disappointed. I've never had a bad dish or cocktail here. There is something for everyone here, the dishes are elevated, the vibe is warm, I could go on...Andersonville will miss this spot and has been lucky to have it while we did. Wishing all the owners and staff the best of luck.

. . the recipes . . . They're just bad. Just BAD. It tastes like I'm cooking. When I was in college.
Be the first to ReplyI loved everything about it.
The staff was helpful and relaxed. No pressure or snootiness. I loved every single dish. Can't wait to go back again.
Be the first to ReplyThey are really coming into their own here.
Eclectic menu, well executed, fairly priced in a comfortable setting. Decent beverage selection, nice service. Overall, what's not to like? Standouts on this trip were the hamachi crudo, grilled beef hearts, apple salad and the new to us vegetable caullini. Looking forward to checking out a Happy Hour soon.
Be the first to ReplyWhat Gadabout offers, it does well.
From a vegan perspective, it offers two dinner options -- avocado salad and braised tofu -- and no desserts, which means you're kind of left out of the sharing of small plates that your dinner companions can do with the rest of the menu. I was prepared to give Gadabout four stars, on the grounds that they overcharge for tiny portions, but they really don't. Their food is excellent. Having tried the salad and the tofu, I will say that they're worth a return visit, even without more choices on the menu. The salad was sweet and very fresh. The tofu was deliciously spicy. We also got a vegan version of their tangy fried potatoes, and it was several people's favorite dish. (Other non-vegan favorites: the grilled moon drops, the marinated beets and the summer corn.)While their food is way better -- and pricier -- than pub grub, this is as much a destination for drinks as it is for food. I'm not a drinker, but their house cocktails look alluring, especially the Milk Tea Alliance and the Ko Samui Spritz. And their mocktails are great. I tried the Scarpa Rossa, which was subtle and not too sweet with citrusy undertones.Note that you can't order desserts for pickup, which disappointed the non-vegans among us who would have gone for dessert.Anyway, five stars for the coffeeshop-meets-rec-room decor, the comfy ambience, the bold, artsy food and the inventive, tasty drinks. I also like the emphasis on sustainability. Of course, if you're into saving the planet, you might want to favor more vegan alternatives, too.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice place, love the vibe they created with the decor.
Food is tapas style meant to be shared and tasty.

Showed up 10 minutes early for a reservation I made through Opentable. I had switched the time from 6 to 7 pm and even had a confirmation email. The little hostess threatened not to seat us. GIRL I have 30+ years on you. Adjust your attitude. It took everything I had not to activate "full Karen mode", but guess what? I'm activated now... Don't treat customers so rudely!! Put a smile on your face. Also when did the portions get so small? The corn salad used to be twice as big.

Journey/experience. The food was very varied lots of vegetarian friendly food and very remarkable flavors and preparation of food. The dishes were all packed with seasonings, spices and uniqueness. We had the oysters that were perfectly grilled and had delightful seasoning on top. The beet salad- WOW blown away! Best ever. The salmon and beef hearts were also very tasty and well seasoned and cooked. The jowel was made to perfection with excellent texture and a great ajo verde sauce to increment palatable flavor. The deserts were all delicious and so were the drinks. Patrons are a little more mature but the ambiance is nice. Great for dates, family meals and celebrating special occasions

Excellent small plate selection and preparation for our group of four. It's an experience that takes time to enjoy. Drink selection is good and just a general good vibe and service. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyBy far the best restaurant in Andersonville.
We only go once and a while for a nice date night- but I can't recommend it enough.
Be the first to ReplyWe went here prior to the pandemic.
We enjoyed the ambience, drinks and the food. Can't even what we ordered, but will definitely come back and try the other stuff on their menu.

Came here with a friend and it was great!! The atmosphere is really cute with different furniture, book cases and plants. The drinks are also on point! We both had their version of an old fashion and it did not disappoint! The seared ahi tuna has the perfect amount of spice to it and the salmon was also fantastic. Every waiter we spoke to was also super friendly and very informative. If you're looking for an intimate setting with great food and drinks definitely give this place a try!

We are over two years post-COVID and they are still requiring proof of vaccine to dine in. My personal health decisions are none of their business and this vaccine is outdated and irrelevant. They claim that their staff is demanding it, so I guess the staff run this restaurant. My body, my choice. I also have the choice not to go to a restaurant that doesn't respect my individual healthcare decisions. So I will exercise that.
Be the first to ReplyCame here on a Friday night to catch up with a friend.
We decided to hang out at my place and walk over to get dinner since I live pretty close. We checked out some photos online and figured this would be a nice vibe for us. Walking in, the host greeted us and was so much fun! They do check if you are vaccinated fyi. We then sat down and checked out the menu. We ordered 5 dishes and 2 cocktails. We had the oysters, beets, burrata, chips and dip and salmon. Cocktails: ko kamui spritz and the uzvar. Everything we ordered was yummmmmmmmmmy! Everything cooked to perfection and had layers of depth in flavor. Server was super nice, quick and attentive. This is the perfect place to have cocktails, have some shared plates and catch up with friends. Definitely check it out.

Be the first to ReplyStunning food and amazing service.
I particularly loved the carrot hummus and beets. Our server Odie was so funny and kind. The drinks were unique and lovely.
Be the first to ReplyThis shared-plates restaurant never disappoints.
My party tends to include a variety of dietary restrictions and the staff has always been incredibly accommodating. I love the fried potatoes and braised tofu for dinner, and the baked eggs for lunch. Portion sizes aren't huge but the food is so delicious that it's well worth the price tag. Definitely don't miss!
Be the first to ReplyThe kitchen and bar team are amazing.
The menus change so you have to pop in every once in a while to try all the new things!DON'T SKIP DESSERT you're welcome.

Plates are meant to be shared. My must have picks from our dinner:Burrata (Brussel sprouts)Lamb Leg SpaetzelThe lamb leg was especially mouth-watering. It has a smokiness to it initially, with a hint of cinnamon in the after taste. Must have experience.
Be the first to ReplyWent here last Thursday! Dinner here was so cozy.
I like the shared plate scene they promote. The food was excellent, and the service definitely matched. Definitely coming back here again.
