Garance was our splurge Michelin experience while in Paris
Garance was our splurge Michelin experience while in Paris this October. We made reservations for 2 on a Thursday night about a month or two in advance for 7:30pm, which is right around when they open. The restaurant is spotless and while the kitchen is located on the first floor, the dining area is up on the second. We came here straight from a visit to the Eiffel Tower, and were obviously excited for a Michelin experience in Paris. Because we weren't extremely hungry, and wanted for more choice in our dishes, we opted for the a la carte menu. The ambience felt quite fancy and formal, despite the service being extremely friendly. We learned "hopla" as a fun French word during this dinner. We shared a tortelli started and ordered 2 entrees: chicken and fish. They were also generous in bring us 2 fun amuse bouches. Overall, everything was made with great care, and you could close your eyes and taste each individual ingredient and flavor in each dish. There are likely nicer and fancier Michelin restaurants in Paris, but we were satisfied with the experience at the price point.
Be the first to Replygarance st dominique was amazing before covid.
But they lost their super chief (no idea where he has gone, I was told). The food is now quite ordinary, nothing like 1*. Having eaten here 10 times, my visit in2021 is the last. Sad.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin Star restaurant good quality for the price.
Excellent and friendly service. This was one of the highlights of our entire honeymoon. I would return in the future.

Came by for lunch the other day and it was merely a mediocre experience. The restaurant opened promptly at 12:15 to start their lunch service. Service started off with a complimentary coat check. The street level has an open kitchen and 1 table. The 2nd floor has an open dining area along with an annex room with a handful of tables. Being seated in the annex room was different as it was definitely stuffy towards the end of the 3-hour lunch... It was also different to not be able to see our waiter in such a small room.Ordered the 6-course tasting menu and it was merely okay. I'm not sure if I agree with their 2020 Bib Gourmand rating from the Michelin guide.None of the dishes, in particular, stood out. Our waiter informed us of the 3 appetizers, 2 mains and 1 dessert for the 6-course tasting. The beef carpaccio and scallop appetizers were okay. The carrot appetizer was odd with a super salty lobster bisque. I didn't quite under the black truffles as a main course. The chicken main course was okay. I've had juicier chicken from Automne. The dessert course was a touch odd, especially with such strong flavors from the grapefruit.

My wife and I went to Paris to celebrate 35 years of marriage and this is the place we decided to have our "Michelin" French cuisine experience and we were not disappointed! Our GREAT waiter talked us into the four course "Chef Surprise" and we could not have been more pleased and yes, surprised! Basically, the Chef decides what to make us "off-menu" and everything from the green bean and lobster starters to the main course beef filet were amazing. We loved everything about this "farm to table" restaurant. Yes, it was a bit pricy, but it was worth every penny. If you want a great French dining experience, this is the place you want to go to!

If you come for dinner, you can get a nice view of the Eiffel Tower lights outside the restaurant. The dining room is upstairs and is intimate. Decor is very simple and clean. They were able to do a larger round table for our group of 7, which was great. They have a few options: a la carte, 4 course vegetable menu, 4 course surprise menu, 6 course surprise menu. Since we were all still very full from lunch, as just ordered a la carte. Bread: - Brioche with tarragon to start - Country loaf throughout the meal Amuse: Clarified tomato broth, tomatoes, spinach emulsion, chopped hazelnuts, cilantro First course: Summer cabbage with clear ham broth, shells, and leeks. The broth was good for dipping bread. It was a nice light vegetable based dish with some clams - very clean tasting if you don't eat too much of the lardo on top. Main course:John Dory with seaweed butter, mushrooms, grilled vegetables. The vegetables and mushrooms came in 3 quenelles, and each was a bit different. On its own, the fish was a bit bland, but it was great with the vegetables and mushrooms. The wine list was great - we had a white burgundy (many to choose from), which was great with our dishes. They finish you with mignardaises. All the food was solid, but I don't think anyone was blown away.
Be the first to ReplyJust a complete waste of a dinner.
Expected so much more from the michelin rated restaurant. Ambiance is terrible with drab walls in a small room. Service is not great since the waiter cannot be seen. The fish of the day was bland and boring with a seaweed side. The pork was embarrassingly presented. Hard to believe this was considered a Michelin restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThis is very disappointing.
First off they walked us upstairs and sat us a room that looked like a brown box. It was sad, boring and unfortunate. We ordered the fish and the pork as our entrees along with a bottle of wine. The fish was utterly tasteless and it came with a side of seaweed which was fine but added no flavor. The pork was just seasoned with a little pepper and a side of sauce and carrots. It was good but not innovative or interesting at all. The food was as boring as the room we sat in.The service was spotty. Since we were sitting in what I think is a closet we could not see our waiter without leaving the room. If he didn't come into our room we were not getting his attention. We would not recommend. There are so many better places in Paris.

I liked Garance enough, but it was more expensive than many of our other meals in Paris and I would say probably our weak link of meals during our week in Paris. Nothing really stands out in my memory.Dinner was a 75 Euro/person 4 course menu. Our meal:-An amazing tomato dish-Another starter-Chicken, which we actually really enjoyed-A rhubarb dessert that kind of reminded us of chopped (uncooked) celery on a pastry
Be the first to ReplyI've been to numerous Michelin rated restaurants in the US
I've been to numerous Michelin rated restaurants in the US but hadn't been to Paris in decades and couldn't resist trying a Michelin restaurant there. My husband and I both ordered the 3-course meal for lunch and I upgraded the first 2 courses with the "suggestions." We also had 3 glasses of wine each, trusting our waiter for recommendations. I can't say enough about the service - the staff absolutely could not have been more friendly or welcoming, despite our basically non-existent French. We were provided a menu in English which was a relief after reviewing the French menu online beforehand. The food was delicious - my first course was trout carpaccio, could have had 3 more courses of it; my husband's first was potatoes in a fish sauce with an egg, cooked perfectly but not our favorite course. Second courses were pork with a lemon wine reduction, spinach and mushrooms; and chicken over a green vegetable / green onion / herbal sauce; along with a side dish of cloud mashed potatoes, like nothing you've ever had. Desserts were a coffee-flavored mousse topped with a vanilla ice cream or cream-based topping; and an apple pastry with apple flavored sorbet. Plus an amuse-bouche before the first course (turnip mousse, amazing) and another small dessert at the end. I'm not doing the descriptions justice, but this gives you an idea. My husband isn't an adventurous eater and these dishes were a good balance of excellence and comfort. Lunch took us about 2 hours. It's a tiny but well-lit space (during the day anyway) but we didn't feel like we could hear everyone's conversations. There's a separate semi-private room off of the main dining room. Many of the men wore jackets or suits and normally my husband would wear the same, but we had kept our travel clothes to the bare minimum, and his button down shirt and pants (not jeans) were fine. Check out the multi-functional toilette in the ladies room. Overall well worth the time and experience. Thank you Garance for making us feel so welcome.
Be the first to ReplyFar below expectation.
The first courses use of contrasting flavors was interesting yet not pleasurable to the palette. The main dish of chicken and root vegetables was better but nothing spectacular. The dessert was the ultimate disappointment. How do you mess up chocolate? The other dessert offered was composed of a bland cream with a bitter sauce, the best thing about it was the natural mandarin. I am only giving this a star because the wine was good, other than that, nothing was worth the price.
