Beautiful cafe
Very nice. Just stopped in for drinks on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Staff very attentive and helpful. Gave us a seat in the bar, overlooking the kitchen staff. Hope to return someday.
Be the first to ReplyLousy fish soup
Lousy fish soup! When did a fish soup turn yellow?? Didn't look like Norwegian fish soup at all... At first I thought the color was because they had curry in the stock - but it didn't taste like that. Fish, mussels and prawns were good, but the stock (soup base) was awful!! Too much acid, vinegar taste and the lack of a small splash of cream made this dish downright bad!!
Be the first to ReplyA kitchen horror and a strange practice
We dined on two different starters but the same main course. Oysters: advertised as Fines de Claire (France) they were very small (probably caliber 5). But it's their treatment that is horrible. They are served prepared so that they are already loose and lie like a little crumpled pile. Impossible to test their liveliness and the appearance is unappetizing. Fish soup: tasty but too salty. Main course, baked cod: inedible! A real block of salt, dry. Sauce reduced to an almost toxic brine. Friendly service, but had some shortcomings. All this for a Norwegian price and for raw materials that are quite abundant in this country. Never eaten so badly and this in a well-established restaurant

Excellent service where staff had time to chat to you! Particularly valued the conversation with our Portuguese waiter whose name we didn’t get! The food was delicious and the cod in particular was outstanding! Oslo is expensive! This was a comparable meal and value for money.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food in a justly famous setting
My only surprise when we made a late booking for supper was that there was room! We returned - it is so good. Highlights were the utterly tender and pink lamb, the ling in shellfish sauce, the chocolate fondant… This is a restaurant with a history- Ibsen’s favorite haunt for a morning beer, and it deserves its reputation. Visitors unused to Norway- be warned: a bottle of wine costs more than your dinner! (But it’s good wine). Also the chef’s set menu really makes sense.
Be the first to ReplyLunch in Oslo
This was a wonderful experience. I had salmon for lunch. the salmon was perfectly done, moist and tasty. I had a desert that was out of this world. It had a macaroon, ice cream, raspberries and a little sweet crunchy with the raspberries. and We had a table outside. The service was impeccable.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent lunch in the center of Oslo
Excellent family lunch. Impeccable service, excellent food, prices in line with those of the city (and Northern Europe in general). I would absolutely stay here again. Note of merit also for the interior furnishings and the open kitchen.
Be the first to ReplyTotal disappointment
Welcome and quality service in a setting of excellence. However, the quality/price of the dishes are mediocre (lack of cooking) Dishes with an absence of flavor, bathed in oil and very honest. Kitchen hygiene also needs to be reviewed (I scratch my nose, I use the phone, the towel under my armpit then used to hold the dishes, lack of hand washing and so on...). Fortunately there are professionals in the dessert and starter sections. Very unfortunate when it is in this superb setting. We are really disappointed for our last meal in Oslo.
Be the first to ReplyFamily Christmas table
I think disappointed is the only word that covers the experience of the family Christmas table at the Grand. The selection of food was poor, the only activity in the kitchen was heating food, and the selection on the dessert table was the same macaroons and donuts that you buy on the menu.. Had expected more, we probably won't be back next year unfortunately.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience
Perhaps we had too high expectations for the historic Grand café, but we think this was a bit below par. Long queues, poor logistics, dirty food. The food tasted ok, but we were not impressed. This was more like a canteen than a restaurant. I see others have mentioned the Danish boat, and we stand by that description. Sorry Grand café, this was not good enough.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced bad food
We had reserved a table and waited at the entrance for the headwaiter that stood 1 m away sorting menus knowing we were waiting to get served. When she finnished sorting menus she welcomed us and showed us our table. After looking at the menucard we chose smoked salmon and bookmakers sandwiches. When the dishes came we were amazed to see that the salmon sandwich had 2 small slices of salmon and a lot of green salad. Bookmakers sandwich was a well of fat and some meat. Breast of beef was so fatty that it had more fat than meat. A 3 cm thick slice of bread with majonaise and salad with a cup of french fries to a price of Eur 28,- is unheard. Service was below average. Other places offer much more for the money ! I complained and got another sandwich that was just as poor as the first one. If you go there choose something else to eat !
Be the first to ReplyNYE’s Eve Dinner
Grand Café Oslo was our choice for NYE’s eve dinner. Due to the limited options in the city & reduced openings, we were super happy to manage to get a table last minute. Helene from the booking department was super friendly & helpful in sending over the menu & helping in the reservation process. Location is great & so is the design of the cafe. Loved the open kitchen & the opportunity to watch the kitchen team preparing the food. Service was great, the 4 course menu tasty. All dishes came in perfect timing & we had some surprise courses in between. It would have been nice if a free Glas of champagne would have been offered at midnight to cheers to the new year … other than that it was a relaxing & delicious evening.

Be the first to ReplyA perfect wine bar 🍷
In the basement of the Grand Cafe you’ll find a fabulous wine bar. The perfect spot to go for a glass of wine on a chilly night: Candles, music, comfy chairs, very competent sommeliers, just the right glasses for each type of wine, and of course a large selection of wines.
Be the first to ReplyHistoric Cafe in Oslo - Lots of History - Beautiful Mural
You can stop by just to visit and see the wall length mural in the back that reflects all of the history behind this location. Mural features many of Norway's most famous residents. Lots of sculptures and other artwork adorn the cafe and the adjacent hotel.
Be the first to ReplyOut for lunch in beautiful
Out for lunch in beautiful weather on one of Oslo’s sunny days! The food was good and the wine pairing worked well but the service and presentation could be better.
We waited almost 15 minutes just to get water when we where seated, the menu provided by the QR code was not up to date and the staff where quite unattentive. In addition to this Grand is very expensive.
In need of improvement.
Best breakfast in Oslo in historic atmosphere
The breakfast buffet served in the Grand Café is just amazing. You feel in a place where past and present meets. The huge painting provides an historic atmosphere of the late 19th century. The salmon prepared in different ways is delicious and the variety of fresh fruits help to start healthy into the day.
