A Splendid Sunday Roast
We were recently in London over a weekend and having eaten here before we decided to try the Sunday roast. We booked for 12.30 but rocked up a bit early, and we were shown to a table with alacrity. The single page menu was handed over and I noticed a Bloody Mary was on offer, so I had one while we waited for the roast beef. We could have chosen steaks I guess but that would have missed the point. We also ordered 2 glasses of Rioja, £14 each which when you are used to Singapore prices was quite reasonable. The beef arrived, 2 thick slices of nicely pink meat, along with a large Yorkie, stuffed with roast pots, and various veggies on the plate, including rather too much cabbage, not my favourite veg - it brings back bitter school dinner memories! It was accompanied by a small boat of bone marrow gravy, which I am not overly keen on, however the missus also ordered a side of roasted bone marrow, and her arteries are still thanking her. Overall though, a great plate of food, and £27 in central London seemed ok to me. We finished off by sharing sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream, which was also excellent.

Excellent food, great wines and responsive service all you need to take are good friends to enjoy eating here. Fabulous evening with friends. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWOW! Best restaurant in London!
WOW! Best restaurant in London! We didn’t book! We walked in and I mentioned once to the receptionist it was my boyfriend’s birthday. We had wonderful service, excellent food and then they surprised us with a dessert plate for him! Nothing was too much! We will most definitely be coming back!. Thank you for making our day so special!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent
We ate rump & chips off the lunch menu, it came with a simple salad and we paid extra for a pepper sauce. It was divine, the steak was cooked to perfection. Our server Bruno was charming and attentive. You just cant go wrong at Hawksmoor.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
First time at Hawksmoor and I was expecting something great. Although the steak was cooked nicely, it was all a bit underwhelming and overpriced. The food was extremely salty, and the portion sizes for side orders are quite small. Also very annoying when the waiter constantly tops your wine glass up every 2 minutes. I don’t think we be returning.
Be the first to ReplyGood meats good service
Great food. Good service. We went at 8.45 on a Saturday and wasn’t any smaller size meats left. So advice get there earlier. Nevertheless good quality meat and food.
Be the first to Reply£5 corkage on Mondays - don’t mind if I do!
I had a super meal here last night meeting up with an old friend. As it was a Monday night I was able to bring my own more than reasonable bottle of red for just £5 corkage. Bothe the ribeye and the sirloin were delicious ams service from: Jose was friendly and professional. It was my first visit to this branch (the original) and it won’t be my last (particularly on a Monday!).
Be the first to ReplyGreedily over-stretching themselves with disastrous results
Treated ourselves to dinner for our 25th wedding anniversary on the last Saturday of February. Very disappointed. I ordered the fillet medium rare and it came dry and tough. Waiter came and asked if the food was ok and I told him it wasn't. He left and came back to say chef would cook another one for me in just a couple of minutes. The second one a few minutes later was just as poor - something I did not bother conveying to the waiter. A week earlier I'd eaten in an Argentinian steakhouse in Bluewater (anniversary celebrations lasted a week), where the fillet was just as it should be - true medium rare fillet, mouth-wateringly succulent, flavoursome, moreish. By contrast in the Hawksmoor last night I gave up trying to chew through the lousy fillet. The place's quality has plummeted in the last year or two. The restaurant was very crowded, with as many tables seemingly crammed in as they could possibly fit. I think they are just being greedy by over-stretching themselves, with inevitably poor results. Oh, the staff are very pleasant and attentive, but it's no longer anywhere near worth the price. Shan't be going back.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing steak!
Go for the steak! Cooked to perfection. The bone marrow appetizer was like butter. Extravagant indulgence. Sticky toffee pudding delicious but would have been better with ice cream.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best steaks I have had in a restaurant.
Came here on a Friday evening with friends whilst on a visit to London. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and shown to our table. All four of us had mains and a dessert. For mains we all had steaks of various cuts - I shared one of the bigger cuts (T-bone) with a friend, others had a large fillet and a rump. All very good. In the title of this review - my steak has only been beaten by the meat we get from our local farm shop, but certainly one of the best in a restaurant. The service was also excellent. The bill can easily get eye watering - my share of the bill was over £121 - we all had steaks, dessert, two bottles of wine and one drink at the bar.
Be the first to ReplyDidn’t disappoint at all!
There’s a lot of steak restaurants however I’ve seen Hawksmoor go for strength to strength. My first visit was excellent … cocktails spot on, attentive staff … the food is obviously excellent without being pretentious. Favorites were the bone marrow and onions , porterhouse … the blend Malbec and the anchovy hollandaise is the best steak lube I’ve ever encountered. Great work!
Be the first to ReplyA Spectacular Meal and Overall Great Experience
From start to finish, the 3 course meal was 10/10. The starters were small bites of flavours that did not disappoint. Each plate was cooked to perfection, especially the main steak. The dessert was a nice way to top off an already spectacular meal. Will definitely be returning again soon!
Be the first to ReplyToo salty, not worth the price
We both had fillet steak, chips and creamed spinach. Everything was way too salty and it was all you could taste. The cut of meat was perfect, cooked how we asked (1x rare and 1x medium rare) but unfortunately just all salt. Cocktails and wine were flawless. I’m glad we only had mains but the bill still came to £170 including service charge (about £150 without but I will always pay service charges). This was not a £150 meal in my opinion.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but decor in need of updating
Staff were very nice, especially greeting staff . The food and steak was absolutely great and what you do go for but for the price you pay, the restaurant needs a refurb. Main restaurant is ok but couples tables are too close together. Toilets and stairwells were very shabby and a bit dusty and the only reason I gave 3 stars
Be the first to ReplyNice food, overpriced though
We had a nice meal, good service (friendly and quick) and nice decor. However, these are the reasons I can’t give it 5 stars. - Starter choice is somewhat uninspiring, a few light dishes would be a good addition. We had old spot belly ribs with vinegar slaw, and ash-baked beetroot with pickled fennel, horseradish & hazelnuts - both very nice, but horseradish very overpowering and I could not taste fennel at all. - We had rib-eye steak which was cooked to perfection - juicy and full of flavour, however a bit salty for my liking. At almost £40 for a 400g piece, was it the best steak I have ever had? … Not quite. - I had my steak with béarnaise sauce which was barely at room temperature (disappointing). - Dessert menu is also a bit uninspiring (all heavy puddings apart from ice cream and sorbet). I had a scoop of plum and chocolate sorbet each. The plum one tasted a bit bizarre. Nice sides - we had triple cooked chips and garlic mushrooms. Decent cocktail and wine selection. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back to Hawksmoor.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible
We came here for our anniversary meal after coming previous years and loving it. However we had an awful experience this time around. The food wasn’t up to scratch at all! We were really let down the service was extremely rushed and the wait time wasn’t great. The worst part however is when the bill came, me and my partner always tip when we feel the tip is reasonable. They charged us £25 for a tip which we didn’t even notice til we had left the restaurant 🤨 Due to the service and food we were extremely unhappy about this and unfortunately will not be returning in the future after this experience.
Be the first to ReplyExcellence as always, thanks to Simon
Just had a very charming meal here hosted by our Bartender, Simon. The food was delicious - we both had steaks with sides - the cocktails were brilliantly and speedily prepared, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere buzzing and inviting. Always a stalwart of London establishments, Hawksmore and their staff continue to impress.
Be the first to ReplyAttention to detail missing
Food good but some attention to detail missing. Not what you expect for a £100 person meal. For example, some of our party had a lemon slice with their scallops, others didn’t. We were also disappointed that no special birthday dessert was offered, as it was to other tables
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal
I really can't fault our visit in any way. Food was exceptional - our Chateaubriand (for two) was perfectly cooked and the accompanying side dishes were delicious. Deserts to die for (sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream - enough said)! It is a busy (and noisy) restaurant but the staff are great - friendly, helpful and efficient. It makes a welcome change to visit a restaurant that just offers tap water as standard without the hard sell for bottled water. A great evening and we look forward to visiting again.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming Roast Dinner
Having visited here numerous times before for the amazing steaks we thought we would give the Sunday roast a try. What a huge disappointment. Firstly the starters (spot belly ribs and crab on toast) were 100% up to the usual amazing standards. The roast arrived with 2 wafer thin pieces of fatty beef, two (yes two!!) roast potatoes which were a soggy mess, a burnt Yorkshire pudding and tiny amount of veg. Oh and don't forget the ugly looking lump of garlic. We were seated by the bar where there are 4 tables of 2 so close together they might as well have been pushed together. When you have an extremely loud lady sat inches away from you it's not great. Service always great so cannot fault that, just go somewhere else for a decent roast dinner.
Be the first to ReplyGreat customer service!!
Very easy booking process. Booked our table online and was escorted to a really nice seating area by a lovely receptionist lady with long blonde curly hair! When we sat down we were greeted by a lady called Atya who was extremely polite, attentive and welcoming! She offered us water and every time my glass was empty she filled it back up swiftly. Our table was also wobbly and we didn’t complain or anything but Atya noticed and placed something under the table to stop it from wobbling. Her attentive and kind nature is what made the experience even better than the restaurant and food itself!! She honestly deserves an award for her brilliant customer service. Now onto the food, me and my friend ordered sirloin steak with two macaroni cheeses and some spinach. One of the macaroni cheeses came out quite runny and Atya instantly went out of her way to correct this for us. She replaced the dish and even knocked off £10 off the bill for the inconvenience caused. The steak was to die for, so filling, cooked to perfection and all round delicious. Very clean restaurant, lovely homely welcoming atmosphere. The toilets were spotless and the staff were great. Simply because of how welcoming Atya made me and my friend feel I would return here in a blink of an eye! Thank you very much Hawksmoor for your amazing food and great customer service. 20/10 xx
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelming and poorly managed m
Unfortunately we found dinner last night very mediocre, especially for the price. We had starters, steak, sides and wine and the wine was the best part. The meat lacked in flavour, the sides were also near tasteless except the garlic mushrooms which were decent. We have made better meals at home and for a fraction of the cost. For a restaurant built around steak, you’d think it would be flavourful and not dry on a £200+ bill. The service was ok but we had booked a table from 7:15 and at 8:40 when offered the dessert menu told we had to be out of our table soon. They should make the bookings longer if they cannot time a 3 course meal to the slot or not offer a third course and then basically say but you don’t have time to eat it??? We felt it was rude and rushed so we left without dessert and final cocktails we didn’t faff around and don’t eat slowly so it was purely poor management on their part. We were really looking forward to this and won’t return to a Hawksmoor as there are much better places in London.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but over priced
Fantastic food. A great selection of steaks. Although it was very expensive. Our waitress was good but the all inclusive tip was a bit steep for the service we received.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect evening
We arrived early but we were seated immediately. All the staff were very welcoming. Sam our main waiter was so knowledgeable about the steaks and wine which made our decision making simpler after an exhausting day in London. Steaks we chose were 100% perfect and really delicious. Peppercorn sauce was best ever! really enjoyed the perfectly cooked asparagus too. A really enjoyable evening that we will remember very positively. Recommended to everyone.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food, setting and service
I visited with a friend for a birthday treat and had a wonderful evening! Upon arrival, we were accidentally seated at the wrong table and then moved to another one with a wonky leg - but it was all uphill from there. Our service from Enea was exemplary - sorting the wobbling table, keeping our wine topped up and very attentive. He also brought out a lovely personalised dessert in commemoration of my birthday! Really appreciative of the effort that he made to make the evening memorable. I loved the setting and the fillet steak was one of the best that I've had, accompanied by a very generous serving of peppercorn sauce and a delicious mac & cheese side. Also feel that given the location and quality of food, the value for money is strong. I'd highly recommend and would happily go back.
