Unacceptable food and service at the cost of over $400 for the four of us.
The food delivery was not satisfactory rushing us through the appetizer to dinner. The dinner each of us ordered was different and equally poor in taste and quality. The dessert was a diaster! The Hard Chocolate shell could not be broken with a knife or fork and dare say it would have bounced off the wall if I had thrown it. The salted caramel sauce ladled over the dessert was thin and not salted. The evening was second rate at best. Many excuses were made by the staff for the poor service and lousy food.

Genuinely the best meal I had in Charleston.
Scallops were unbelievably delicious, perfectly cooked and paired with a cauliflower medley that sat on a bed of tomato and cream sauces. Everything complemented each other beautifully. It is recommended to order a side, although I feel we didn't need it. We ended up ordering the lobster mac-n-cheese, but it was far too decadent and rich to follow the she crab soup we started with. (In my opinion, better than the soup we had at Hyman's seafood, which is supposedly "the best in Charleston.") Would've opted for a lighter side if I were to go again. The lavender cheesecake was beautiful, though slightly drier than I would've hoped. It seemed to be coated in a sort of candy-shell, which although gorgeous, I feel like it took away from the dessert textually. Our waiter was very attentive and quick. Crumbs being scraped off the table was a nice touch, as was her lighting my birthday candle a second time so that I could get a picture! Would recommend to anyone visiting the city!

It was such a fun experience! The service is insanely good they cleared our plates in literally no time and always on top of their game when it comes to drinks and making sure we were okay. The fried green tomatoes are a must! I also recommend the brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes as sides. The martini was really good. It's dark and a little loud in there, so know that going into it!

Hard Pass Next Time For Brunch
High Cotton came recommended so they may just have had a bad day while we were there for a Saturday brunch, but there was nothing special about the food -- it was just very average and, with the prices that are charged, a disappointment. During our trip, we also had Sunday brunch at Husk and ate lunch at Fleet Landing and dinner at Hanks and Fig. All of these were great. Unfortunately, High Cotton just didn't measure up to these others. Since other reviews appear to disagree, perhaps our experience was not the norm. On a positive note, they did have live music, which was appreciated.
Beautiful atmosphere.
Service is impeccable. Kelly was our waiter and couldn't have been more attentive. They made us feel special for my friend's 50th. The food was on point. I had the shrimp and grits and my friend had the crab cake. Highly recommend!
Everything was top notch.
Had a great time celebrating my bday in Charleston for the first time. Food, atmosphere, service were all great! Our server, "Street" was very thoughtful and attentive. We told several people about going to High Cotton. When we come back to Charleston, we will try visit you again and would like to meet the owner, too. I heard the owner was there the night we were there but, we didn't get to meet him in person.

Ambiance was super cool, dark with live music. Food was amazing can't recommend the lobster Mac and scallops enough! One of the best places to dine in Charleston!
Outstanding Brunch
Four of us ate here for brunch in a Sunday and all enjoyed it. The restaurant is beautiful with white tablecloths and an old works appearance. The service was excellent with multiple managers stopping by to check on us. Parking is in a pay lot half a block away. We had oysters, both kinds of eggs Benedict, and beignets. The free bread was warm blueberry bread. Finished with coffee. All were excellent. We would return.
Disappointing and overpriced
We were very disappointed with this restaurant. The greeting was not good - we were made to feel uncomfortable as we two when the greeter said the booking was for three. Turns out she had the wrong booking and the βthreeβ, with the same name, turned up after us. We are still waiting for the apology for being short with us. The food was ok but not great. The pasta in the cioppino was undercooked and amount of seafood in the dish was not what you might expect for $75. The room was noisy, and a child crying and screaming didnβt help the atmosphere. There are much better restaurants in Charleston - have a look and give this a miss!
We went to High Cotton for a family dinner, 13 of us.
Our Waitress Heather was amazing. Ask for her. Bubbly, smart, intuitive, intelligent, extremely kind. When we ordered... before I even asked , she asked if she could put my child's order in first so he could eat right away. I have never had a waiter or waitress do that ever. With a three year old, you can bet I appreciated that. All our drinks and food were right on time. Never had to wait for refills. All our needs were anticipated. On top of that we had one of the restaurant managers come by named Alpha. He spoke directly to my table and my son, made him smile and the interaction was very kind and genuine. When I went to find a restroom, I walked through and without having to ask anyone...a waitress caught my eye and said are you looking for the restroom, follow me. These things are small, but mean a lot, and distinguishes themselves from others. I was seriously blown away by the hospitality. Food: delicious. Period. Fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese , fried oysters amazing. My husband and I split the soup... it was out of this world. I think I could have had just for dinner and it would have been perfect. I had the shrimp and grits (most of us did) the grits were out of this world, shrimp and sausage delicious, sauce was surprisingly great ( I didn't think I would like the brown gravy but loved it). My husband had the scallops they were cooked to perfection not a ton of seasoning they were letting the scallops be the stars. Cauliflower side was okay. We had a side of the brussels, they looked great but they seemed a little dry. The sauce on them made up for it. Another family member had the grouper. She said it was good, but had a bite of someone's shrimp and grits and said she wished she would have gotten that one instead. Overall the experience was fantastic, food was great and service even better. When I bring my girlfriends to SC , I'll definitely be bringing them here. Ambiance. Old school building with a beautifully redone interior. Very Charleston. If you aren't sure what to wear, lean towards the dressier side of things. Yes, there were people in khaki shorts in the bar, but most guests were in their southern finest dresses or men's long pants.

The music is the perfect level so you can hear it throughout the restaurant. The cinnamon roll is amazing!!! A great appetizer or sharable for the table. The grits that comes with the meal were delicious and the farmers market omelette was light and the vegetables in it were super fresh! A great place to make a reservation!
HIGH COTTON IS A MAGICAL EXPERIENCE!
Maya Angelou has said, βI've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.β High Cotton is an eclectic mix of genuine hospitality coupled with excellent, celebrity-style service, dipped in unforgettable deliciousness. My family and I live in Jacksonville, Florida and we visit Charleston about 6 times a year, just because of High Cotton! Alpha has got to be one of the most attentive managers I have ever met. His attention to detail is second to none. He makes us feel warm and welcomed, EVERYTIME. Our server, Briana - what a joy it is to experience her! She is funny and joyful and so very knowledgeable about the delicious food, from the appetizers to desserts! We have actually had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at High Cotton - and we are NEVER disappointed! When we are at High Cotton, it is truly a magical experience! And if Soul Fish plays - the magic shifts to another level of brilliance! I highly recommend High Cotton for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dates nights, celebratory events, and happy/sweet vibes. Yes, I absolutely love High Cotton! My favorites dishes are the CHARLESTON SHE-CRAB SOUP, AHI TUNA, AUSTRALIAN WAGYU CARPACCIO, WEDGE SALAD, BURRATA, WHIPPED YUKON POTATOES, FILET MIGNON! The chocolate cake and the old fashioned are also delicious treats. In closing, when we leave High Cotton, we feel incredible. It is an experience everyone should savor.
Lots of Highs
We were looking for a good meal after a day of exploring Charleston and High Cotton did a pretty good job. The staff was friendly and accommodating. we were not happy with the first table we were offered, it was right by the door in a dining room and we were concerned that it would be disruptive. We were quickly moved to a table in a different dining room, which was perfect. Our service was quite attentive. We both had had house made pineapple martini. The base was orange vodka and it had a lovely full flavor. We stared the local oysters which were were equally good. For the appetizer my friend had the she crab soup. It was excellent. I had the fried green tomatoes, which were crunchy with just a touch of sweet and a special treat. For our mains my friend had the smoked duck, which was flavorful and very nice. I had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly. We shared an order of truffled fries that were good enough my friend asked to have them packed to try and take them home! Dessert was a little disappointing. We ordered the silk pie and it was just OK. The next time we come in, we would order a different dessert. Overall, we had a very enjoyable meal.

Large dining room, efficient , helpful service. Comprehensive brunch menu. The usual suspects plus enough to keep it interesting. We both loved our meals. She crab soup, oysters, shrimp and grits.
Impeccable Service and Food for a Private Event
Mu husband and I reserved the French Quarter Room at high cotton for 2 events. The first was a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner. The morning after we hosted a pre-wedding breakfast buffet in the same room. We cannot say enough good things about High Cotton! The service was impeccable and the food 5 star. The event coordinator was so incredibly helpful in the planning and the wait staff at both events were professional, friendly and met our every need. If you have an event to host in Charleston, High Cotton is definitely the place to go!!!
Disappointing and Expensive
We had high expectations of High Cotton, and High Cotton just did not deliver. First off, it was so noisy that we could hardly have any conversation at the table. The service was inattentive. For example, we asked for bread to accompany the appetizers, and never received it until after we had our main courses. As for the food, my husband's scallops were bland and my halibut was over-cooked and dry. And for all that, the prices were high. We ate at several fine dining restaurants during out visit to Charleston and High Cotton was at least 30% more expensive than any other restaurant, and had unimpressive service and disappointing food.

We returned to High Cotton for a family reunion. The interior is luxurious with obviously well trained and motivated employees moving about to deliver service. We are fortunate to get Annie, who introduces herself and moves closer to hard -to -hear Grandpa. She knows the menu well and answers all questions. The manager of the room inquires as to our satisfaction. Annie serves other tables but constantly returns to furnish drinks etc. It is as gracious a dining-out as can be. We have but one complaint: We were not warned a 22% tip had been added automatically and so we seriously over-tipped, but fun and food was as good as service.
Highlight your trip to Charleston with a meal at High Cotton
If you are planning a trip to Charleston and would like to have a truly wonderful meal in an elegant setting make a reservation at High Cotton. We had an early, 5 pm dinner reservation and had an excellent table. The service is outstanding from the moment you enter. We had the calamari appetizer which was tender and perfectly cooked. The entrees were all different and each was cooked as ordered. The night was perfect!

I should have written this review the first time I ate there, because the food and service were both fantastic. Truthfully, I feel inclined to share this now because of the kindness the staff showed me over the weekend- when I wasn't even dining with them that evening! On my way to meet friends at a nearby bar my phone died, so I stopped by their front door to point me in the direction of the bar. Instead of sending me on my way the GM brought out a phone charger and let me hang out till I had enough charge and was sure to be safe! Great people, great atmosphere and amazing food :)

I called ahead and asked if I had to have a reservation, I was told no they take walk ins. When I arrived I was told something different. However I ate at the bar. I ordered the filet, add on scallops with mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly but very bland. No flavor. Scallops were great but $24 for two my side salad was just greens and tomatoes. I would say the best part of my meal was the mashed potatoes and my two glasses of Cabernet. I thought the food was way overpriced this was $185 my boyfriend didn't eat he had one drink. The bartender was great tho.

Very upscale restaurant, please make a reservation otherwise you will get seats at the back near the bar. The dining experience is upfront for the cost atleast . The waiter was great , among recommendations as needed and the chef accommodating coming up with a vegetarian dish not mentioned on the menu and varying everyday . The cocktails were interesting, I enjoyed the Tommy..., gave it a star less because ordered the appetizer Australian wagyu and they gave me the dinner sized Wagyu and I saw this at home while looking at the bill (hmmm!) Was wondering about this but guess had a few too many by the time all the food came out That being said the wagyu was fantastic and strongly recommend . I had the fish of the day which was sword fish , interesting dish but preferred the Wagyu Loved their desert ... have a picture but forget the name . In addition we're sitting close to the music area so got to enjoy some tunes while dining

My ABSOLUTE FAVORITE place to eat in downtown Charleston! The food is amazing, service is always on point and the overall ambiance is breathtaking!! If you ever are visiting Charleston for the first time and want to have the "Charlestonian" experience, this is definitely the place to check out. My favorite dish is the Shrimp and Grits! I will admit the prices are a tad pricey, but trust me WELL WORTH IT! They have long tables where you can be sitting by some cool people or you can get a table just for 2 near the window so that you can check out the comings and goings of downtown. I'm not sure the nights that they have music, but they do. And they also have a Restaurant Week menu during that time of year. I can't say enough great things about this place. I wish I could eat there every weekend! :)

Anniversary dining
Anniversary visit. Dinner was excellent with complimentary champagne and excellent service. We did sit by kitchen which was not ideal but the noise was acceptable. Lowcountry fare and steaks. Husband's steak was among the best he's had.

Starting with the front desk.
Main receptionist on the phone, two other people said they would take us back, but didn't. Long delay. Next: Ordered a bottle of wine off their menu. They are out of it. Ordered another bottle: they are out of it. Ordered another bottle from their menu: They are out of it. Really? Then ordered the cioppiono, which is $75 and comes with a lobster. Came with two lobster sticks, dried out, on a bunch of dried up pasta. Not a cioppiono. Never order coppionio if you are not in the Pacific North West. This was pathetic. Highlight: The broccoli. Horrible food experience, do not recommend.
Wonderful Rehearsal Dinner
We hosted my son's rehearsal dinner there on 2/01/24. Everything was top notch. Should out to Keith who made it a wonderful night. Food and staff were excellent. Would definitely recommend the venue as number one for this type of event.
Gourmet meal in classy setting
We heard good things about High Cotton. It lived up to the hype. Our server, Seth, was exceptional. He was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, but not smothering. A couple of managers checked on us several times to make sure all was in order. The food was superb. We had the lobster tempura and she crab soup to startβ¦then shared the scallops amd filet with crispy Brussels sproutsβ¦yummy! We shared the sweet potato cheese cake for dessert; so unique and tasty. Only challenge is parking, but there is a pay lot about a block away on Bay st. $8 for 2 hours.
Service and cuisine disappointing
I was disappointed that both made a note when I booked and I also took the time to call ahead the day before to confirm the reservation was under my boss's name. She let me know that it was still under my name. She reported she can never find a menu item she wants to order, and the cuisine was "just OK." She's not too difficult to please but when she's the one approaching the hostess stand and paying for dinner of 6, she expects the reservation to be under her name. This upscale restaurant has not lived up to the hype. I will not be booking here again.
Make a better Old Fashioned!
I love High Cotton, but for goodness sake learn how to make a proper Old Fashioned. Please? We were here for nightcaps and thought our first drinks were a fluke (more like a neat bourbon); we ordered seconds to be sure and both were poorly mixed with the cherries smashed under a bourbon cube. Canβt a guy enjoy the cherries, too?

The Worst Cioppino Ever! The Cioppino here was absolutely terrible. It was expensive and tasteless.

Charleston fine dining at its best! If you only have time for one five star dinner while in town, this is the place to go. Make a reservation for a table near the window for people watching.
Great Meal and Experience!
Wonderful experience, from the food to the service, it was all great. We had the scallops (very fresh and delicious) and perhaps the best calamari weβve ever had. Dessert was a sweet potato cheesecake that was out of this world. We will absolutely eat her again next time we visit Charleston.

Went into high Cotton had been there a number of times before went to the bar. This time couldnβt decide between a buffalo trace Manhattan and a buffalo trace old-fashioned so we ordered one of each recharge $16 for the buffalo trace old-fashioned and $32 for the buffalo trace Manhattan,, certainly not worth double charged Had a small appetizer and we were done
