Great sushi at a good price. It was an easy dine for gluten free and vegans too. Would recommend a visit when in Christchurch

Really good food and service and atmosphere. I really recommend everyone to come to Hikari sushi train in christchurch

Itโs a busy, fun environment to eat in & the sushi was pretty good but too expensive for what was provided. Bit of a shame, as the experience other than the price was positive.
Be the first to ReplyEXCELLENT EXPERIENCE
I now live in Wellington where I work as a Senior Doc - but I was back in Christchurch (where I used to live) staying with friends for a week - Hikari ST was awesome - the food was esquisite, beautifully presented and ultra-fresh - the Sea-Water Eel was amazing - as were the multitude of hand-rolls which I ordered - Tuna Avo, Panko Prawn and Cooked Tuna - and the waitresses were both utterly delightful as well - I will certainly visit again when I'm next in the lovely Garden City but in the meantime you should definitely do so - with the location at Riverside being fabulous too - thank you so much - Dr G

They donโt make it very visible that every plate was $5.30, regardless if you get the 2 piece veggie sushi , the edamame or the fresh salmon sashimi. I suppose if you only eat the expensive fish options it might be worth it. Chinese Green tea was $4 and came as a tea bag in a paper coffee cup. A lot better value food options in the rest of the Market.

Had we realised that all plates were a set price of $5.60 we would never have sat down! Even the most basic of sushi (2 pieces) and edamame beans were this price. Having eaten at sushi trains all over NZ, Japan, Australia and USA this was by far our worst experience. Having teen son in tow, he ordered a Donburi hoping that they may be a better bet. It too was mediocre and over-priced. We were hoping to order a beer while we were waiting for his Donburi to be made only to be told that there was no one left on the premises that could serve beer, Overall, a very disappointing start to our weekend away in Christchurch. We ended up going and eating a decent meal elsewhere.

Nice to experience a different form of delivery; with the food trundling past you on a conveyor and you pay the same price for whichever piece you eat. Great selection of sushi available. Also some meals available on the menu.
They do take away as well.
Unsurpassed the worst dining experience
We walked into the Hikari Sushi which at the time had about 10 people. My husband and I and our two children sat down at the only seats available at the sushi train. There were plates from a previous customer left at the bar with soy spilt across the table. We asked for it to be wiped which the girl kindly did. Considering the amount of staff and lack of customers we would of assumed this could of been done as soon as the previous customers left. Half way through our meal one of the staff, presumably the manager, took her shoes off less than half a meter away from my food, stood up on the bar in her socks where my food was and proceeded to take down containers from the overhead gantry. She then climbed down and walked away. I called the girl over that wiped our table previously and said to her that I was shocked that I was in the middle of eating food when your colleague stood on my table by our food in her socks. She proceeded to say to me that at least itโs better than in shoes. I said not only is it unhygienic to do so but she didnโt even wipe the bar. The girl grabbed the spray, angrily wiped the area and stormed off. We left our meal, paid and left. We will not be back. Never in all our years of experiencing hospitality have we ever come across such a shocking display of hygiene and customer service. For an industry that is having a hard time during Covid restrictions their employees should consider not only the customer first but the impact that their actions have on the people that have invested in this business and what impact that might have on their families.

Really enjoyed our visit to Hikari. Staff attentive and nice. Fresh seafood and good miso. Will be back for more. Kids love it!
Be the first to ReplyOk until
First try here.
Food was ok until we found a fly under the lid of a fried chicken plate.
Staff response not great they didn't understand. I had to show them a picture of a fly. Also staff behind the counter touching the contaminated food without gloves.
Total lack of customer care, paid the bill and left.
Sushi Train
Not totally authentic, although the chefs are from Japan. The sushi seems to be deigned for NZ tastes and covers the most popular flavours of salmon & prawn with rather less of the other seafood varieties like tuna. All plates are $4 so it is possible to have a quick, cheap light lunch.

Very good miso soup. Good selection of sushi. Easy to calculate price as all sushi plates same price. Easy to identify sushi as plates are color coded for different meats. A bit cramped. Helpful staff.
Be the first to ReplyYes! A sushi train in Riverside Market - a must see and experience
This location at Riverside is run by the same people that run the Hikari location on Durham Street. Itโs a great offering for them to be part of the buzz of Riverside Market. The food plates go by on a conveyor belt, which is different from their other restaurant. We love a sushi train because you can sit down, see what you want and just pick it up immediately, eat as much or little as you want, and be on your way. They make tuna sushi rolls, and their seared salmon is tasty. The miso soup has good flavour. The staff are very attentive. Whenever I walk by theyโre busy, and rightfully so.
