Amazing meal, wonderful experience
We were suspicious when we saw reviews like 'Best Meal in Japan', but Yakitori Hitomi is the perfect blend of incredible food, casual atmosphere and friendly service. We were lucky to get reservations at 9:40 at night, and were worried that service in that late hour might be hurried. They couldn't have been nicer, and every morsel simply melted in our mouths.

Unbelievable food. Must reserve a month or more in advance. Can also walk in and ask for a reservation on an upcoming night for a late seating. Best meal we had in Japan. The owner couldn't be nicer. Our hotel Concierge at the Park Hyatt Kyoto recommended this as the best yakitori in the city and I couldn't agree more!

We had our hotel make us a reservation at Hitomi almost a month in advance, and still could only get a reservation at 9:30 PM. Totally worth the wait. This is a tiny, intimate restaurant - just a few tables in front of the windows, and several seats at the counter. There may be some upstairs dining too. We sat at the counter where we could watch the chef, a real grill master who clearly enjoyed demonstrating his skills. He and all his staff were friendly and welcoming, and at least two spoke English so ordering was simple. Fantastic chicken meatballs, thighs with green onions, gizzards, and various vegetables too. All perfectly cooked and delicious. Nice wine list as well. A casual, friendly restaurant with very good food and extremely reasonable prices.

I have been to various restaurants in Japan including three Michelin star restaurants and Yakitori Hitomi ranks right up there - I had one of the best meals there tonight. The chicken thigh is delicious and the Tofu is unmissable. I personally love the knee cartilage so much that I reordered several times. Very reasonably priced as we ate 20+ things for around 8000 yen, I would be happy to pay much more than that as the quality and the service is just so good. The staff are all super friendly which made it an amazing experience.

Heard this maybe the best yakitori in Kyoto so have asked hotel concierges to reserve seats one month before our trip. Still we can only get a table at 0930pm. This one is so popular so you should reserve seats well in advance. The meal is amazing, yummy and not expensive at all. They have simple English menu. We love grilled chicken thigh and chicken meatballs.

My husband and I learned of Yakitori Hitomi from a review that we read in the New York Times. I'm happy to report that Yakitori Hitomi does not disappoint, it's absolutely fantastic. We live in New York City so we're in constant proximity to amazing food but Yakitori Hitomi is on another level. The service is warm and friendly. The yakitori is out of this world. And the price is incredibly affordable (in fact you may feel guilty at the end of your meal once you realize how affordable). I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It was our favorite meal in Japan and it's a strong contender for the one of the best meals of my life.
