Honey Restauraunt is the main restauraunt located on the sixth floor of Hotel Gotham, which is one of three "five-star" hotels in Manchester city centre, located on King Street. I called here for a Prosecco Afternoon Tea which was averagely priced at the reasonable £25 per person. They were able to do it for me gluten-free after booking in advance, giving them a few days notice to prepare everything, in terms of the comparison between both Afternoon Tea's, the only main difference was the presentation and slices of bread and they did do a reasonable job at adapting the Afternoon Tea to make it gluten-free for me, but it was a shame that they weren't able to use different types of bread (including a quiche), which they appeared to do on the regular gluten-containing Afternoon Tea. The seating area in Honey was quite nice, it had cool windows with nice views of Manchester's old and new buildings from Rosso to City Tower, the view might not have been good as at other locations such as Cloud 23 at Hilton Manchester Deansgate, but it was definitely up there. It was slightly hard to book a table at first, I originally had to settle for a date in the week due to them being fully booked on the next couple of weekends - so if you are planning to visit for a special occasion, it is worth booking well in advance if possible to avoid disappointment! I visited on a Monday, where it has a nice calm and relaxed vibe and didn't seem too busy The staff here were quite nice, they were super friendly and seemed happy in their job and had good standards of customer service and the menu, I had every dish explained in full from the topping to type of bread (for my friends afternoon tea which contained gluten!), I even enjoyed looking at the tea box where they had an amazing selection of loose leaf teas, allowing me to look at them, hear more about them, and smell them before deciding to opt for a unique vanilla tea which might not have been on the menu, but it tasted fantastic. The vanilla flavour and aroma made it one of the best tea's that I've had, it provided a natural sweetness so I didn't even have to add sugar into my cup, a shoutout must go to my server for persuading me to order it compared to my usual favourite, an Earl Grey. The only flaw about the service would be that it did take a little while to get a waiter to come over after sitting down leading to being confused whether they put your food order through without coming over to you first or not, and there was a delay in getting the teas, although the vanilla flavoured tea was fantastic and worth the wait. Most of the sandwiches were good quality, my favourite of which was the poached salmon and truffled eggs, the only sandwich I didn't tend to like was the cucumber and cream cheese, but this is mainly because it didn't compare to the high quality of the other sandwiches and was a little boring compared to the other cool and exciting combinations. The bread also tasted fresh, as did all the toppings and unlike most gluten-free slices of bread it didn't fall apart or have too many holes. The other sandwich was a nice beef. I didn't really like the cakes, I found the mango and courgette take on a carrot take to be... interesting, maverick and unorthodox yet they didn't seem to go well together in the cake. The other cake slice for me, a chocolate fudge was a little too sweet, but that being said I'm not a huge lover of chocolate cakes. I did really enjoy the gluten-free scones, the server kindly provided separate cream and jam for me to avoid cross-contamination with my friend, the only flaw of the scones was that they were slightly too crumbly meaning they'd go into many pieces after being cut in half. The main complaint regarding my food, which apart from the cakes was good quality was the number of sandwiches, the sandwiches were mainly good and even one or two more would have been better, even if it meant less of the desserts perhaps, but by the end of my Afternoon Tea it did tend out to be rather filling. The restaurants its-self has a cool and unique decor and a regular food menu too, which is slightly high-end (you have to expect it for a five-star hotel!) but most of the dishes do sound good which makes me want to come back to try the rest of the menu too following a rather good selection here. There is also free wifi - however unless you're short on data it isn't really worthwhile connecting as the signal throughout remained good for me and the sign-up form did seem slightly awkward, but this is common practice at a load of places now sadly. Overall, I had a rather nice dining experience, not without its minor flaws making it up there with some of the best Afternoon Tea's I've had, and probably the best which didn't come at a Hilton branded hotel, so I feel Honey is a rather nice place for drinks or food with great views of the city so of course has done enough to warrant a four-star rating, I'm pleased to report.
