Booked a 3D2N between 29 and 31 July to celebrate three birthdays in one go. I was expecting this relatively ‘aging’ hotel to have outdated decor everywhere, but I was so wrong. The overall architecture and interior still stand the test of time, and everything that can be refurbished has been refurbished. The lobby was both grand and exotic, spacious and tropical-like at the same time. The coconut and palm trees in the surrounding make it feel very much like a Thai resort/hotel. The Premier Seaview Room with Balcony is so roomy that it could fit at least four single bed, so there is room for even running round. The balcony is great for sunset appreciation. There was a slight problem with the bathtub drain stopper as it could not open to drain the water, but a spoon did the job. BTW, this is so far the only hotel I have visited that has a fridge that works properly. Dinner buffet was a pleasant surprise. Apart from the usual seafood that most hotel buffets offer, Café Lagoon has many nostalgic local Hong Kong snacks and desserts. Fun is not a word that usually collocates with buffet, but it does at Café Lagoon. Food quality ranged from above-average to high. Weekend dinner buffet even serves suckling pigs! Breakfast buffet at Café Lagoon also shows how logistics is carefully thought out. Other than the café itself, the nearby Chinese restaurant Yue and the lobby café area on the ground floor are also used to accommodate the patrons. Impressive! Staff were quick to clear used plates from tables and were always friendly. On day 1, we were unlucky because we only had five minutes to enjoy the outdoor pool before the thunderstorm warning was issued, but the beach was just 10m away, and we settled for some beach time as backup. On day 2, we finally truly broke the curse and had the chance to enjoy some swimming pool time (had not been able to use any swimming pools for our last 4-5 hotel staycations due to, well, thunderstorm warnings). Kids enjoyed the water slides very much, and it was great that life-jackets were available in large numbers so that parents need not worry about not bringing their own. The only thing that needs to be improved is the long waiting time to scan LeaveHomeSafe QR code before entering the pool. Outside the pool, there are also many water fun sprinklers where young children can play together. In short, there are multiple options in case of bad weather. There are also many in-hotel activities for hotel patrons. There is a children’s playroom (paid by the session with multiple keen staff safeguarding your children’s safety), a gym, some board games for free rental, large outdoor international chessboard, as well as free farm tours. There is also a large outdoor parking-meter car park right outside the hotel, the Gold Coast Piazza right beside the hotel with cafes, restaurants and a large supermarket. Simply put, one does not need to go far to gain access to everything needed. Overall, our stay in this hotel resembles a real getaway experience.
