I used to trust Hyatt.
Recently I made two reservations because I wanted to take advantage of the low rate instead of using precious points. After receiving a cancellation notice for the points reservation, I made a reservation with dollars. Unfortunately, a family emergency came up and I called Hyatt if I could cancel the reservation and they agreed verbally without penalty even though it was within the 72 hour cancellation period. After NOT receiving a cancellation email I called them back up and they claim that they never approved the cancellation of the second reservation. Imagine how upset I was being called a liar. The lesson here is don't trust Hyatt on a verbal cancellation. Get a confirmation number before hanging up.You do business with companies that you trust. And even though I have been a loyal member since 2002 apparently this doesn't mean anything. I will not trust Hyatt next time.As for my review, The Hyatt Chesapeake is looking tired. We have fond memories of taking the kids to this resort when they were young, but the hotel is in need of repairs. A nice new touch is the adult only outdoor hot tub. The lower level rooms near the pool table is quite noisy. I would recommend staying away from this area (1200 series rooms). Our coffee maker produced a lousy lukewarm cup of coffee. I would recommend other resorts in the area before choosing this resort. It is over priced and not well maintained.Summary: Don't trust Hyatt cancellations and select a resort that is better maintained
Be the first to ReplyThis place is AMAZING! I didn't get a chance to stay over
This place is AMAZING! I didn't get a chance to stay over night but I purchased a day pass at this resort for a mommy and me day for my daughter and myself. We were able to utilize all the amenities as the overnight guests had access too. We literally spent the whole day here. We enjoyed the outdoor pool overlooking the bay and the indoor pool. The indoor pool had a hot tub as well that you can also access it by swimming under the wall from the outside. The kids loved doing that lol. During the evening they were playing movies in the indoor pool while we enjoyed swimming. We also was able to enjoy canoeing on the bay. We rented a boat and spent an hour on the bay. Which was relaxing and made bonding more special. It felt like we were the only ones out there since the bay is so big in the area we were allowed to boat. They also had motorized boats that you can rent but since it was just us two we didn't do that. For dinner, we were able to eat in the restaurant after showering and changing our clothes. The food was so good! After dinner, we played mini golf before heading home.Everything about this place we enjoyed! We had such a good time here. The staff was friendly and helpful. There's plenty of parking on the property that's free. There are no lockers here so be prepared to carry around your things. We kept our things at the chairs by the pool and they were fine the whole time. However, I left my valuables in the car.
Be the first to ReplyThere is much to like.
.. and much they can improve. Some hotel rooms are lovely with beautiful views.Coolest thing ever-- under-bed, motion-activated lights with an otherwise dark room!Public bathrooms too often get insufficient care with clogged toilets, empty soap containers, and outdated signage. There also always seems to be a shortage of bartenders for large conventions, resulting in long wait times. The biggest problem is their terrible wi-fi. Couldn't do work in my room. Came down to the lobby-- still no luck. They simply MUST improve this so that we can do work and stay connected while at this lovely venue.AND... there are recycling bins in our rooms now. How about adding some in event rooms and the lobby? I saw too many aluminum cans and plastic water bottles in the trash cans.

This is the first time we've been back in several years. I would say that this place has lost one or two stars over the years. The main loss has been in the quality of service, both in the restaurants (of which there's really only one and a half, unusual for a high-end resort) and store. Perhaps because we were here on a holiday weekend, spills were not cleaned up in hallways, some of the chairs and tables in common areas were dirty and the serving staff were pleasant but most were remarkably inattentive and seemed untrained - not commensurate with a high-end resort. That's not to say there aren't occasional staff members who are. A beautiful place, the highlight of which is the waterview, golf course, and the large indoor pool atrium. However, unlike many high-end resorts, no real quiet places to relax indoors. . The few nooks that they have are in very public areas , at the edge of uncarpeted hallways, or right around the corner from open space restaurants and bars; so can be very noisy. Also, this resort caters to families, and that means many many young noisy children , or parents calling out to their young children. Blackwater Nature Preserve is about 20 minutes away which had nice hiking and walking. There are some paths for walking the resort grounds, which are right on the water and lovely, but the paths are very limited. The town is not exactly a "destination" spot and the pandemic has not been kind to it. So, a nice place that has lost its former burnish. Good for 3 nights at the most.

If you are planning to stay here for quite a few days, bring peanut butter jelly sandwich for bfk and go out for lunch somewhere else beside here because the food they served is like prison food or worst. 3 day stay, did not eat bfk. Lovely facility crappy food

11/4/22This review is for Michener's (inside on the ground level)Cream of crab soup was excellent-- wonderful taste with lots of crab. The Chesapeake burger was great too-- the crab dip complemented it better than expected. I thought it might be a little much, but figured when would I try something like this again. The only flaw was that it was over cooked. I don't know why they asked me how I want my burger cooked if they're just going to cook it well done anyway (I asked for medium)

The staff, while "nice," seem completely unapologetic for the generally poor maintenance of the facility (rugs filthy and stained, mini golf falling apart), the low quality of the food (and also either missing items or served cold), the extraordinary delays in getting food and drinks (either the waiter/waitress never showed or took 45 minutes to one hour to bring something), the poor mixing of drinks (cocktails were almost exclusively mixer -- although, the guest don't look like the types you want to have a lot of alcohol), the disorganization among the staff (most staff seemed to be teenaged kids with no focus or desire to do anything constructive), etc.We spent $1300 to stay two nights and; given this experience, we will not be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a conference and had some mixed feelings
Came here for a conference and had some mixed feelings about the experience. Pros: The locale is very well equipped, with fun activities galore. State of the hotel is pretty good, plenty of different venues for events, good scenery. Bar is excellent and well-stocked. Rooms are well-appointed for the most part.Cons: Flies, flies, flies everywhere. They were all over the place in the hotel restaurant, at dinner in one of the conference rooms. Why are there so many flies around and why isn't there more done about it? Signage for the various venues were confusing; trying to find the Clipper Room among two different levels of ship-named rooms was confusing when it could've been solved with a simple sign.Small thing, but makes a huge difference: set up the big/heavy opaque curtains so that it's easier to open/close in the morning and leave the diaphanous curtains as such.Mixed: The service. The staff were polite and pretty quick. But there seems to be a real shortage of staff. For instance, the cleaning staff had not prepared my room by 2pm, even though I had checked in 2.5 hours prior. The next day, I returned at 3pm to find that my room hadn't been redone. Figuring that it was upon request, I decided to take a nap--only to be awaken at 3:30pm by cleaning staff looking to re-do my room. This speaks to a real shortage of staff.Overall, this is a solid resort for those looking for such. But the flies and the lack of staff detracted from the experience somewhat.
