Inati restaurant Christchurch Reviews from The Last Year
A delightful experience.
A top class restaurant where the food is interesting, distinctively styled and a delight to eat. The wine selections we had were all local and the better for that. Obviously thought has gone into the selections and it was great to try some new to me. We dined at the counter which added to the evening by being able to watch the assembly of our food and chat with the staff, who were all fitted in with the overall excellence of the restaurant. We had a pre-dinner drink in the cozy bar where my wife tried a cocktail called "Titanic" which she reckons was one of the best she has ever had. This is a great place, just don't look closely when it comes to paying.
"Trust us" is convenient for them not good for us.
Our last night in New Zealand a special night for my birthday we did the "trust us" menu. Clearly we got all the dishes that no one else ordered and mostly were fails, the earth/ land /sea motif made us think we would get something from each category but we did not get any seafood dish though we were told later that if we ordered extra add-on dishes (more than the 6), at full price, of course we could order seafood. They realised we were not likely to be back to Christchurch from Melbourne soon and did not need any special treatment. We would not be treated like this in Melbourne. Dont trust them.
Fabulous meal at Inati
Fabulous meal at Inati last night. Warm welcome from Angela who settled us in to the Inati lounge for a predinner drink before we joined the high seating at the bar for the Chef’s Choice 6 course meal. All decisions were left to the chef once we identified any dislikes or allergies. Then a host of sharing plates arrived looking impressive but outdone by the flavours. Thanks, Matt, for helping us with wine choice.
Fabulous experience
Absolutely awesome . Clever, interesting cooking .Delicious flavours . Courses nicely timed and great wine flight to accompany . Nothing disappointed . Would visit again when in Christchurch. Not cheap but if you want to celebrate and have a truly memorable experience then I would absolutely reommend
A fantastic Restaurant
We have traveled the world and love to try fine dining restaurant’s everywhere we can. This is in the top two experiences we have had! Well done! Amazing dinner with wine pairing.
Really rubbish !
For Valentine's Day and a honeymoon we are placed at the bar!! Asking for a table, we were then told to wait in the lounge: I have never seen a space so dark and so confined! So they make us wait outside in a building lobby! We left and of course they charged the entire advance on the credit card! Really rubbish !
Amazing
Absolutely loved this place! The food was magical – each dish packed with flavour and cooked to perfection. The cocktails – they were next level, beautiful sherbet, vanilla bean infused vodka- perfection. Creative, strong, and so good. Everything was spot-on, from the service to the atmosphere. A solid five-star experience without a doubt. Also much better than the restaurants in Brisbane for value for money. I would come back to Christchurch just for this restaurant
A disappointing experience
Said to be the place to go for fine dining it is fair to highlight the positive. The one star is earned for an excellent wine selection. Time for some constructive suggestions. Your staff should not just regurgitate the scripted introductions, they should look you in the eye and establish appropriate human interaction so you feel welcome - quite different from giving you the impression you should be grateful for having chosen the restaurant. Food portions should be slightly bigger and should resemble the elegance of your website. Hacking a finger thick tentacle off an octopus and serve with a dollop of something white looked so revolting that two of my guests would not touch it. You have to turn your focus from pretence to elegance. You also need to match your prices with your ambiance. The room is crowded like a roadside diner. 4 people - 8 minuscule samples of the chef’s limited skill combined with modest helpings of wine cost over $900. An underwhelming and overpriced evening, not to be repeated.
Exceptional
We loved our evening at Inati. Excellent food, wine, service, atmosphere. Caters to a sophisticated crowd. Bold flavors and beautiful food theater.
All the benefits of a highway diner without the class
The separation of front of house from back of house was never so evident in our visit to this diner. Despite having a confirmed reservation The maître d’ chose to disregard this fact and explain away our loss of the table because they were busy. In fact after moving us to the lounge to wait for an available table we were displaced from our perch ( because another group needed the space) under the guise that our table was ready , this even before our drinks arrived. In fact there was no table and we were seated at the counter elbows to elbows with our neighbours at the same location that was empty when we arrived some minutes earlier. It was obvious they were trying to displace us from already reserved table! The front of house sheriff with the customer service skills of an attack dog was totally non empathetic, nor apologetic of the situation which to be fair may have been outside of her control. However no attempt to accommodate or offer the minimal compensation ( ie a house cocktail which was already ordered) was made . It was certainly apparent by her body language and tone of conversation that it was us the client with the long confirmed reservation that should be great full that we could get a seat anywhere. Well the client is not and should not be “great full” your success depends on us. When this becomes unclear or when the establishment feels it’s more important then the client the downhill spiral , not uncommon in the restaurant industry begins. It’s the dog that wags the tail not the tail wagging the dog! Forget that at your peril. Was the food good? Can’t say as we didn’t stay. However may I suggest that the owners( not the managers) put some consideration into ensuring staff representing their establishment has the basic customer service skills and respect for clients that we the paying customer deserves. As far as service and respect for customers goes you get better at the Mac Donald’s down the road and who knows the food may even be comparable! Can’t say
Such a Highlight!
We came here for dinner on our two night break to Christchurch, it was was one of the biggest highlights of the trip! The majority of seating is arranged at the countertop around the open kitchen. The stools are quite high to get up onto, so best to notify in advance if you need a low table or have accessibility issues. The restaurant is in a compact yet sophisticated modern space. We didn't order a fixed menu, just a la carte, although they were able to come up with a fantastic array of vegetarian dishes - some on the menu, some not. Everything was spot on, we loved some courses more than others, although everything was an experience! Some of our favourite dishes were the confit potato dish, the celeriac toast one and the mushroom tiramisu. We had an incredibly considerate and cheerful younger guy looking after us for the night who helped to navigate the menu and provided useful wine suggestions. The only downside was being seated directly beside the only other couple in the restaurant when we arrived (we were there on an early booking). Such an impressive night and a big recommendation for fellow foodie travellers (or locals).

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
