Jack Rose Dining Saloon Washington Reviews from The Last Year
If you are a whiskey lover, this is by far the best whiskey
If you are a whiskey lover, this is by far the best whiskey bar in DC. They have an absolutely amazing selection of whiskeys and for reasonable prices (relative to the cost of the bottles). My husband and I love scotch and Jack Rose has one of the best collections I've ever seen, second only to what the Islay distilleries had when we visited. We have been on a Campbeltown kick recently, which is extremely difficult to find in DC, and they had a good selection from both Springbank and Glen Scotia. AND it wasn't super marked up, as one would expect given how scarce these bottles are. When you order a dram, they bring you the bottle, pour a dram, and then leave the bottle on the table so you can read the labels. We didn't get the food, although I did a few years ago and from what I can remember, it was just average. They also have a rooftop that is really nice when the weather is nice, but the whiskey menu there is much more limited.
The ambiance at Jack Rose Dining Saloon is that of an old
The ambiance at Jack Rose Dining Saloon is that of an old world library. Only instead of shelves of leather bound books, it's bottles and bottles of Whiskey. I had a bourbon-loving friend visit. I found Jack Rose via Google, where it boasts over 2600 different whiskeys. Little did I know that I had found "the Disneyland for bourbon drinkers." Not only did my friend and I have a great time but the staff was knowledgeable and helpful and I learned a ton. My companion the bourbon aficionado asked them to curate a flight of Willet bourbons for him. He was blown away by the flight. He said it was an experience and really liked a bottle he said he would likely never see again. He pointed out the Pappy and the Willet. Our waiter also made me a beginner flight. I now know I am an Irish whiskey person and bourbon is too much for me. I also know scotch whiskey is aged in sherry barrels which gives it the fruity notes. I should add the food was delicious. The fried salt and vinegar Brussels sprouts were amazing. I could eat just them for the next year and be happy. Thanks Jack Rose for making my friends DC Visit amazing !!
Highly recommend hosting an event at Jack Rose.
Rooms have a food and drink minimum that are easily attainable, beautiful spaces, custom menus for your event and the food was amazing. We had the balcony space but would have loved the tiki bar in the back if our group had not grown. For custom menu you can choose signature cocktails or combos (we combined Manor Hill Pilsner w/ Ardbeg Wee Beastie) Brittney, tbe point of contact for events, was AWESOME! Kind, communicative, and went out of her way to make it a great night for the whole party. For the food we chose passed apps including Mac and cheese bites, hushpuppies, chicken sliders, BBQ meatballs, and veggie kabobs. Then a dessert table with lil pies that were a hit. To have a designated server for the apps and a designated bartender in our private space I feel like it was a great deal. Thanks for the amazing experience!!
So. Much. Whisk(e)y.
Whiskey nerds, this needs to be on your bucket list; part of your quest; a pilgrimage or Hajj or whatever other spiritual type journey you may feel the need to use for comparison; and/or a chapter in your diary. An overwhelming amount of Whisk(e)y - everything from $7 pours you could get at your local watering hole to $700 pours of super exclusive juice - and everything in between. Bring your big kid money and a spirit of adventure. They have other drinks for those who may not love whisk(e)y, but only bring those people if they can be patient with you while you stay nose-to-phone scrolling through 70+ pages of digital menu trying to figure out what to order next. We didn’t eat the food, so no review of that, but the service was friendly and the space welcoming. Go explore and enjoy.
This place is hopping but still charging a 4% "recovery
This place is hopping but still charging a 4% "recovery surcharge" in 2024. They charge $26 for a pasta dish and you can buy a 1oz pour of multiple beverages for $1k. Honest pricing on the menu 4% higher is not going to turn away customers. The fine print fee is yet another cash grab by greedy multiple restaurant owning groups (never once seen a single outfit establishment pull this) hoping people won't say anything after enough whiskey when they get the bill and not caring about their employees enough if customers deduct it from the tip. They removed when asked but customers shouldn't have to. It's on the menu but I like many did not see it until the bill. Not sure if they lost 4% of customers but they lost me. So tired of this.
I'm a big Whiskey aficionado, so I went here with my family
I'm a big Whiskey aficionado, so I went here with my family for my birthday. And indeed, they do have just about every rare whisky out there, although you REALLY pay for it. Food was decent but not amazing. But it's important to note, this place is REALLY LOUD. It is next to impossible to carry on a conversation at your table.
I Went here for a birthday and was pleasantly surprised.
They food menu was very limited so that's the only downer. The drinks were great. The drinks were flying from behind the counter, service was friendly. I'd check this place out if ever in the Adams Morgan area.
Outstanding drink and dinner at top whisky bar
Excellent time at Jack Rose. The whisky selection is vast with a plethora of options. I chose the uncommon Johnnie Walker Swing and there was a premium DC variant also on the menu. Bison burger platter was delicious with crisp fries all the way. It was a crowded night, but bartender refilled my water multiple times. I highly recommend!
There is not too much to say about this landmark, but JUST
There is not too much to say about this landmark, but JUST DO IT! This is a quiet and beautiful whiskey bar with stellar service. We only sat at the bar inside, but I would recommend trying their upstairs and visit during their happy hour. We observed many other patrons enjoying food and meals. It's also located nearby many good Adams Morgan restaurants.
I absolutely loved this bar.
It wasn't just the fact they had an obscene number of whiskies, it was how the visit transformed my attitude towards peated scotch, which I wasn't a fan of before this visit. The bartender who served me asked what I wanted and I gave him what I thought was a near impossible task: I told him I wanted to appreciate peated scotch, but I didn't have a history of of liking it. He suggested I get an exploration flight and he asked me what I liked: Spicy Ryes. He smiled, came back with three bottles and took me to school - turns out I like peat when supported by a rounded sweetness - like the kind that can be provided by resting in a sherry cask. I left a better person. Thank you!

Jack Rose is considered a bit legendary among my group of whiskey friends. I live in PA, so coming here is a bit of a drive. Upon walking in, you can see the impressive library of whiskies in full display, covering nearly all walls of the bar room. There was an upstairs area as well that has a small room for seating, and a long, less-crowded bar that seems more quiet than the busy bar below. However, it doesn't have as many whiskies on display. You can scan the QR code to see the complete list of whiskies that you can order. The prices were a bit expensive however, but that's to be expected. What seemed most interesting were the Jack Rose Single barrel picks of various whiskies. I went with the Russel's Reserve Single Barrel, which was apparently one of the most popular picks. There were definitely plenty of of other barrel picks to try, but I'll have to come back another time!
Their QR menu for the terrace directs to spyware.
Do not use this if you are trying to order anything and also not compromise your phone.
Fantastic holiday party
Just returned from my husband’s work holiday party. We had the entire upper floor which is very spacious. Heavy apps (stations and passed trays) were all delicious and plentiful: Buffalo cauliflower po’boys, mini grilled cheese, burger sliders, fried chicken sliders, scallops, fried shrimp, stuffed mushrooms, crudite, deviled eggs, various dessert mini tarts. Servers were really fantastic- efficient and very pleasant. Kudos!
Good afternoon spot to meet friends for bourbon
Was a good Saturday afternoon drink session with friends. We were disappointed in the flights of bourbon offered, though the variety of types of bourbon was good, the flavors were not enjoyable and we all really enjoy bourbon. The main bar selection of bourbons and cocktails were quite good. We did not eat there for this visit.
Good and not so good
A very specialist bar and restaurant. Before we left our hotel a local told us not to eat there. He said it was just a bar and didn’t do food. How wrong he was. It is a whiskey bar, literally hundreds if not thousands of international brands and the staff know their stuff. If you like a tipple it is a must. The service is exceptional. Every member of the team comes over to chat or check you have everything, genuinely personal service. Ok the food is not extraordinary if is just good, although the calamari starter is superb. Reading the previous posting about payment did resonate. What is it with contactless and tipping in the US? Why do you have to go up to the till to pay, why do they not have hand held devices? It’s just bizarre. When I pay a bill my credit card company sends an instant notification of the charge. So I paid, ping, the notification arrives, do I want to leave a tip, yes specify the amount, no ping. So I ask why have you you not completed the transaction. “We don’t close the transaction for tips until later” I’m told. Why I ask, don’t know is the reply. So I say well doesn’t that mean that you could change the amount after I’ve gone? Well yes, but we wouldn’t do that would we. So why not close it? Well if you want me to I will. Yes please. Ok I will. It still took 24 hours. Is paying a problem? I hope not but you do wonder.
Great introduction to Bourbon and Rye
Excellent evening here. Emily our server went above and beyond to make the evening special. We are new to the world of Bourbon and she crafted us two flights to suit both our palettes and budget. The food was good and tasty and pairing with spirits was new to us but something we would definitely try again. A buzzing atmosphere from the busy bar added to the occasion

Thank you for the question, if a seller is working on answering your bid, you cannot cancel it until their time is up and the bid is released back to you. The full amount of funds then go back into your AT account. Typically a seller has 48-72 hours to complete the bid.
