Waited 20 min to be seated - initially told it would be 5-10 which is fine. We asked for either a table for 4 or a larger table since we had a stroller (3 with a stroller). The hostess said she was waiting for a table that could accommodate the stroller next to it and then when they walked us in we instead had a table for 2 people (we were 3 + stroller). Then the bus boy or manager said we couldn't leave the stroller next to the table which is fine but there was nowhere else to put it. The table couldn't even fit the high chair. We asked for another table and they said well you can wait outside again for another table. We said thank you very much and left without another word. Will not go back here. Bottom line: asked for a table for 4, got a table for 3 with no place for a baby!

Great food, but nothing mind blowing considering the location. Staffs are friendly and somewhat attentive. We were sitting inside but I think the ambiance would be much better if we were sitting outside.
Be the first to ReplyWe came to this place on a Sunday morning.

Be the first to ReplyI've been wanting to try this place for ages - I love
I've been wanting to try this place for ages - I love Mediterranean food and the reviews online are consistently solid. After finally trying Jack's wife Freda for brunch today, I was a bit underwhelmed. Luckily I didn't have to wait for a table since I arrived at 11:30 (an hour and a half later a line was snaking down the block) but I wasn't allowed to enter the restaurant until my whole party arrived. I ordered the shakshuka ($17) which the waiter warned me would be spicy (ok with me!), but I thought it was somewhat bland and liquidy (it reminded me of eggs in mild salsa verde). It's on the lighter side and comes with two small pieces of challah. My friend had the prego sandwich, which she said was good ($23). It was on the smaller side but came with a lot of fries. The service was good and the ambiance is loud and fun, but I had higher expectations for the food. The prices are on par with (or maybe cheaper) than other options in the Soho area but you probably won't leave feeling full.
Be the first to ReplyJack's Wife Freda is my friend's favorite brunch place in
Jack's Wife Freda is my friend's favorite brunch place in the city and she constantly raves about their yogurt. Unfortunately, like many other brunch spots in the city, they don't take reservations, so we had to stand outside. We actually only had to wait about 10 minutes before they were able to our group of three. The place itself was a bit crowded but it was nice and cozy. My friends got the Mediterranean breakfast and grapefruit and yogurt while I ordered the poached eggs with roasted tomato and haloumi. I admit that my meal was underwhelming and not worth it, but my friends' Mediterranean breakfasts looked quite good. If I came back, I would probably get the shakshuka which is interestingly green.

Stopped by for an early dinner on a Tuesday night and there was a lot of space available, so we didn't have to wait to be seated. It's definitely more of a brunch place, so I wasn't too shocked there was less of a crowd for dinner. We got 3 shareables and then 2 entrees. The Greek salad with salmon pleasantly surprised me. If I came back I would get that with the halloumi!
Be the first to Reply"Holy @!$% this is good" - Everyone at the tableThe best
"Holy @!$% this is good" - Everyone at the tableThe best way I can describe Jack's Wife Freda is if you took an "American new bistro" menu, but added Mediterranean touches. The Prego roll is everything a steak sandwich should be, but then some. Skirt steak (medium rare recommended by the staff) marinated in aromatic spices with garlic butter and sautรฉed (i think) haloumi cheese on a warm, fresh Portuguese roll. Savory salmon on a bed of yummy squash spaghetti. Schnitzel with a breading that hits all your taste buds at once. Meatballs? Sure, but these are Persian meatballs served with tahini and pine nuts. We also shared a fantastic beet dip with warm pita and a platter of fried haloumi cheese. The decor was simple but pleasant. The place was quite busy (4pm on a Saturday) and a little noisy, but in an "we're alive" kind of way. Despite not necessarily having a dedicated server, we were always checked in on and the staff made excellent recommendations. Everyone on the wait staff had a smile, even joked with the table. Very friendly and helpful.Note that they have multiple locations - this one was on Lafayette - and I sure do hope the quality, service, and food carry across all of them because our experience was fantastic.

Love the chicken kebab So delicious Went 2x on the same trip I'll be sure to return
Be the first to ReplyI had breakfast here during my August 2022 trip to NYC.
Lovely place to be. Service was prompt and friendly. We went on a weekday and were seated right away. There were a decent amount of people inside eating. The mint lemonade wasn't that great but the cantaloupe juice was delicious! Definitely try the green shaksuka when you visit!

This place is awesome! Wish they had more ethnic foods tho as the menu tends to be very regional year unethically exquisite. Marvelous.

Pretty good brunch and lunch in a great location on Soho but there's definitely better. Somewhat small portions.
Be the first to ReplyCame here from brunch with a friend before she moved from
Came here from brunch with a friend before she moved from NYC to Paris! Thought it would be fun to try at this iconic spot before she left! We came Wednesday early afternoon and was surprised to see lots of people here, but the wait for 2 was really quick (less than a min)! The restaurant is huge and feels super airy and light, with some additional seating outside. We got:Latte - okay, sightly bitter for my friend's liking, but nothing a little sugar didn't fixPoached eggs with roasted tomato and haloumi - comes with a great gremolata green sauce, portion size is small considering the price - should at least come with a side!Mimi's Salmon Burger - delicious with lots of flavors! Love the pea shoots that added a nice crunch. Potato bun was super soft and great to soak up the chipotle aioli sauce! Comes with fries or arugula salad, I went with fries! The fries weren't seasoned enough, not very flavorful - added my own salt and pepper!Overall, good food with good service. Glad we decided to try Jack's Wife Freda!

This location just opened, and it shows - the restaurant is lovely and modern, with plenty of space to sit. I went for dinner on a Monday night and got seated right away. My peri-peri chicken was very well seasoned, and so much that I couldn't finish it all. The salad on the side was pretty good as well, though I am fairly indifferent towards it. I haven't tried their brunch foods yet, but am looking forward to maybe returning to do so!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was very bland and under seasoned.
I had a house salad, and the vinaigrette tasted like nothing at all. My friends got the rose water waffles, and mashed avocado on seeded bread, neither was as flavorful as they wanted. The waitress was nice and attentive. The food looks great in pictures, but enjoying it is another story.
Be the first to ReplyReally popular brunch place that has expanded to the corner
Really popular brunch place that has expanded to the corner spot at their location. The new interior is very modern and less cramped than their old location. My fiancรฉ and I got there at around 9:30am on a Saturday morning and it was already pretty busy. Thankfully we didn't have to wait to be seated and got taken care of right away. I ordered the chicken kebab plate and he ordered Jack's Breakfast. The chicken kebab bowl had a lot of good flavor. Definitely mix the couscous with the cucumber/tomato salad to make it a more cohesive bite. My fiancรฉ enjoyed the Jack's Breakfast and said it tasted high quality.Overall, a nice brunch place to go to if you can beat the crowds. Also the food is pretty pricey... but that goes with all brunch places. Not sure if it'll be worth a long wait for though!
Be the first to ReplyTo start, our waitress Theodora is the coolest.
Dancing, good vibes, and great recommendations are more than I'd expect from most brunch waitstaffs, but Theodora brought the fun. The food was excellent. I enjoyed my Jack's breakfast and my gf loved her Madame Freda sandwich. With a live brass band and celebrities mixed in among the brunch crowd we feel like we got quite the experience! This place rocks, can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyI saw Tobey Maguire here and it was the only good thing
I saw Tobey Maguire here and it was the only good thing about this experience.Look at my previous review and the awesome waiter. I experienced the opposite today. I think with the expansion, they bit off way more than they could chew. And we ended up chewing nothing because of that. We went when it was almost empty for the outside seating, in the morning, no line or wait. They gave us water very quickly. My wife ordered a drink. We tried to order our food a at the same time. ย The waitress caught an attitude and said she would not take our food order. If the person that handles my food catches an attitude, I just leave. I've only had to do that a couple of times in my life. I did that here. But ended up coming back to sit down later because my wife texted me that Spider Man was here. If you can't remember the order, just write it down. I'm not looking for classical French service. This is NYC, some people like to move quickly. I just want to order my food and get out. At the other location, I've waited in line. I don't know the restaurant business, but maybe just write things down and then people won't wait as long in line?My wife stayed and they got her steak temperature wrong. No surprise, I wish she would just write the order down. The surprise is that it came back wrong a second time. My wife ordered it medium rare, as she always does. The surprise is that it came out well done a second time. And it took a very long time for the second steak to come out. Maybe because at this point, all the seating was full and there was a line. I can see why they are backed up. The manager had to ask us what temperature my wife ordered. When we voiced the issues, hoping that some part of the feedback might be useful to the restaurant, the manager was pretty dismissive. I respect a manager that stands behind their workers, but we just wanted to briefly share our thoughts. As you can tell from my previous reviews, I don't complain to get free stuff. I generally don't send food back, because I think it's better for the planet if we don't waste. And in this case, my wife ordered steak, and we try to eat more vegetables for the planets sake. The fact that they confuse a warm red center with a well done steak is sad. So my wife declined a third attempt to not overcook the steak. Honestly, we were concerned they might have gone through an entire cow trying to get the center warm red instead of charcoal. We also had random waiters try to give us other peoples orders multiple times. It's like they were just guessing. We were concerned that the reason for the steak delay was that they were walking around asking everyone in the restaurant if they want it. The waitress also brought back another tables eggs wrong, they had ordered it scrambled. She tried to see if they'd just take it wrong, that was sad. On the 1 hand I'm glad they didn't want to waste food. But on the other hand, if the food is wrong, don't bring it out. I wasn't impressed at all. Oh, circling back to Spider-Man. AfterI left, my wife texted me that Tobey Maguire was told he had to wait in line. So I walked back and I offered him my seat. He declined, lol. They ended coming back out and getting him a table inside. So in the end, I'd rather Tobey Maguire get good service, his acting has brought me way more joy than 1 meal.
