The front of the house staff and reservation team, including the manager have an absolutely abhorrent sense of service. We were in London for a short trip and were excited to visit the restaurant given its Michelin rating, our love for Indian cuisine, and top global restaurants and the fact that it had outdoor seating, which was very important to us with Covid still lingering. We contacted the restaurant directly in advance to ensure that we could be seated outside on a Friday and the restaurant made it clear that they "do not reserve outdoor tables, they are first come first serve. When we arrive at the restaurant please ask the receptionist to seat you outside if the tables are available." We consequently made a reservation and showed up on the earlier side to see their two outdoor tables were unoccupied and completely open. So we asked to be seated there and the receptionist tells us they are not allowed to seat people there. I told them if we knew there is no chance we would not come there. When advised that their staff told us otherwise, they said all of their staff know they cannot serve outside (so the two outside tables were just there for decorative purposes) and suggested it cannot be as if we were wrong. I proceeded to have my wife pull the precise communication showing their staff made it quite clear that they can but subject to availability and it was very available. Lady says they cannot do so. The manager proceeds to show up and then argue with me that telling people outdoor dining is subject to availability means the same thing as not possible. Instead of apologizing, admitting their staff should not have said that and he would speak to them and show an interest in correcting or preventing a future instance from occurring, he just ignored the fact that his staff told us something that is not true and did not care to figure out if maybe they could find a table for us indoors that is further away from others. There was an arrogant sense of we did nothing wrong, I do not understand very clear communications and didn't he accommodate us by not charging for the table? I will let you decide whether that seems like good customer service. I would have been understanding if they simple owned up to the very clear error and showed some remorse. There was none. We were delighted to leave and to go to a wonderful place nearby where the staff was absolutely a pleasure and did everything they could to ensure we had a wonderful experience - Hush Mayfair. I recommend that travelers not spend any pounds or any currency at this establishment unless you prefer to be treated poorly. If so, enjoy!!
