The menu is well-balanced and many of the flavors are distinctly Korean with a taste almost as true and authentic to what you would find in Seoul. However, one key item, the Australian Waygu wasn't served hot enough and lacked in flavor, somewhat reminiscent of pastrami. Among the highlights of the dinner, the salmon tartare was fantastic and the courses were delicately balanced. Michelin star worthy.

Very unique and thoughtful tasting menu with a play on some classic Korean dishes. My favorites were the mussels as well as the salmon with crispy rice pearls. The cocktails were also super innovative I love when they tie in elements that usually aren't seen in cocktails. I got the gochujang and roasted barley I'm not sure that I'd come here again, but it was a great experience to try once!

Kind and friendly staff, beautiful decor, phenomenal dishes. We celebrated my birthday here and could not have had a more enjoyable time. The staff accommodated my hopes to swap out the meat dishes with fish and the results were delicious. My husband enjoyed the wine pairings -- I had a few glasses, as well as the three delectable alcohol-free cocktails. Standout dishes includes the fireworks of beef broth ice with spicy mustard flavor (no yellow in sight) under raw white fish. The "kkaetnip" was another complex dish of yogurt, buckwheat and intensely flavored sweet ice. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Excellent, thoughtful dishes, space was beautiful and service was impeccable. If you are well versed on restaurants of this caliber and enjoy the tasting menu experience, you will not be disappointed on portions or variety. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Great service, team was knowledgeable of the food and drinks being served. Food was outstanding. Great place for a date night

I feel terrible for not taking more photos but the reason why was the food was so good I totally forgot. We're foodies and this meal was a birthday meal. We have been to Jeong before hence us coming back for a special occasion and they did not disappoint at all. The only thing I'm disappointed about it that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It definitely deserves a Michelin star. However this place was a James Beard finalist a couple of years ago. Standard hasn't dropped. If not, it has gone up. The wait staff are so professional and attentive and even asked Chef to come out as it was my sons' birthdays and they loved the meal so much they wanted to meet the chef. The food is a fusion of Asian and western flavors but so thoughtfully made and beautifully plated. Surprisingly for me, the dessert was my favorite. Will be coming back again and if you want a Michelin starred meal without the price...try this place out
Be the first to ReplyOkay, i grew up with all these flavors.
But never like this. This was one amazing experience. I just can't believe how jeong/chef Dave was able to understand the flavor profile in a way that can be evaluated. I just don't can't explain in words what i just went through. I still have one dish left but i couldn't wait to talk about this place. I need to take my foodie friends from out of town.

I loved the inside of the restaurant, it was very enticing and beautiful. Service was on point. They were very perceptive on each table's needs. As for the tasting, I liked the Korean influence since there aren't many tasting menus in the city with the same ingredients and flavor. I gave 4/5 because I left still hungry so maybe some of the portion sizes need to be a smidge bigger.

The food was sensational, fixed menu tasted a very nice variety of unique flavors and elegantly presented dishes. If the food was the only consideration, this would be a 5 star review. However, poor scheduling and timing on the part of the restaurant severely undermined the experience. Since the menu was fixed, there was no delay in the placing of our orders, and each dish came out quite quickly, making the pace of dinner feel a bit rushed. Considering we had been seated 5 minutes prior to our reservation, this felt a bit strange. Before the final dessert course, we were asked if we'd like to place orders for coffee/tea, which we did. We received dessert, then shortly after we received our coffees. Immediately upon completing the dessert course, we were given the check. The staff was quick to take my card and give me the receipt, which occurred well before the coffee was cool enough to drink. We were surprised when the front of house then asked if we could leave our seats and finish our coffee in the 'lounge', which was simply a waiting area in the front of the restaurant. This occurred around 1 hour and 50 minutes into our reservation. For a $400+, 8 course meal, which was timed strictly by the restaurant, being asked to leave our seats in under 2 hours was unacceptable. The otherwise wonderful experience was overshadowed by this forced end to our dinner. Jeong should be far more careful and planned with timing in the future; rushing customers out immediately upon completion of their meal, for a restaurant of this caliber, is unacceptable.

A fantastic date spot with a beautiful interior and helpful staff delivering elevated contemporary Korean food. They have a great tasting menu with a wine pairing if you'd like or you can try some of their delicious cocktails. Each dish is well balance with acid, sweet, fat, and the depth of flavor that makes each dish outstanding. It's hard to pick favorites but the scallop and skate stood a little bit above the rest. This is a must try menu.
Be the first to ReplyI passed over a Michelin 3 star restaurant to eat here.
At the end of my meal, I wondered "how could that have been any better than this" The service, menu, location, and food is impeccable without being pretentious. Get the wine pairing. I've worked in Korea and enjoyed nice restaurants. This remains one of the best meals I've ever had. I would hop on a plane and fly to Chicago to eat at this restaurant. It as sublime.

What an amazing experience! Everything from the moment I walked in was pure excellence. The food was an explosion of flavors, the service was genuine and knowledgeable and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. This is a must!!!!
Be the first to ReplyI cannot believe more people are not talking about jeong.
One of the best meals of my life. Better than a lot of restaurants more commonly featured on food blogs or social media apps.I want to start off by saying the restaurant is beautiful. Gorgeous dim lighting with candles and huge floral arrangements. The space is elegant but not stuffy--a good match for the flavorful but unpretentious food served in it.The restaurant only provides a prix fixe menu with eight courses. There are six savory dishes (two of which, the seabream and the waygu, are rather substantial), and two sweet dishes. I thought every dish was phenomenal--made with fresh ingredients and well balanced. The flavors were interesting, with obvious Asian influences combined with a modern American twist, and more than once I found myself surprised at how innovative the kitchen was. Familiar or not, the dishes were delicious. And by the end of the night, I was stuffed and completely satisfied. Well worth the price IMO.

jeong offers a Korean twist on their tasting menu in a modern, minimalistic type of space. We came here as a small group to try their tasting menu, and we had:+the chawanmushi - with king crab, Osetra caviar, and scallions+salmon with yuza, dwengjang, creme fraiche, and crispy rice pearls+seared scallop with a beurre blanc sauce, spinach, trout roe, and chives+sea bream with miyuk (seaweed; laver), celtuce, and chili crisp+jook (rice porridge) with duck confit and 5-spice granola+Australian wagyu with carrots, jorim glaze, and cabbage+Kkaetnip (perilla leaves) with Korean yogurt and buckwheat+and, for dessert, the boricha with chocolate and cakeFor drinks, we opted for the mocktails:+the Maesil - with litchi noir tea, orange, and soda+the Pomegranate - with yuja, lime, and soda+and, the Ginger - prepared with lime, grapefruit, and tonicOur meal was a little lackluster, as some of the dishes we were fans of (such as the seared scallop), and others, we didn't really want to touch after the first bite (such as the salmon, the sea bream, and the kkaetnip).Service was friendly and welcoming, and the place seems to be a popular spot for date nights.I wished I liked this place more and had similar delicious experiences as others have had, but no dice. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, though, but wouldn't return. There is street parking available around the area.+Korean fusion tasting menu offered+street parking available

The food and cocktail are really good, so kudos to the staff. That being said, I am a bit disappointed on the fact that this place markets itself as a place of "Korean Soul". I was initially super excited and proud that food of my culture is celebrated as a luxurious experience in Chicago. However, I left the place a bit disappointed at the creator of this restaurant.Imagine you go to a French fine dining place, and only thing they serve is Italian wine. To some French folks it may be just "wine is wine" kind of thing, but to some it can be offensive. I'm one of the latter ones.No authentic Makgeolli/Soju selections (instead you get a list of fancy Japanese Sake), Japanese made dishes and Hi Chew as dessert??? Also, there were more Japanese/non-korean infused drink selections then there were of korean ones. That is going against the whole "Korean Soul" about this place. It seems to be too accommodating to other cultures instead of shining its own. Also, if you know the Korean history a little bit, it's a little bit insulting that you mix in Japanese food cultures of all things...I'm not hating on Japanese culture as I love Japanese food, but I was coming specifically to Jeong to celebrate my own.I tried to give it a chance - the food IS good. You'll get your money's worth. But I'm not coming back here for connecting my "Korean Soul".

An amazing tasting menu in a comfortable environment and reasonably priced compared to some other places around the city. We especially loved the desserts & my husband thought the wine pairings were great. The playlist was also on point. Would definitely recommend for a special date night or celebration.
Be the first to ReplyVery good experience at Jeong.
The service is impeccable and attentive. I like it better than many of the Michelin starred restaurants and they certainly deserve one.
Be the first to ReplyAs a Korean American, I so appreciate Jeong and how it is
As a Korean American, I so appreciate Jeong and how it is such a one of a kind restaurant-- Korean meets fancy tasting menu. I appreciated how they crossed bold flavors with subtle tastes and added familiar Korean ingredients in certain dishes I never would've thought could go well together. Wonderfully intimate and quiet space. My apologies for sometimes killing the vibe with cackling laughter coming from our table. We celebrated my mom's birthday (a Korean restaurant owner), and we thoroughly enjoyed her first time ever experiencing dinner at as nice of a restaurant and with as sophisticated of a menu as Jeong. Owner Jenn was also super sweet and personalized the bday experience for her, and our waitress was incredibly kind and personable. Thank you Jeong for making her birthday feel so special!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was AMAZING.
Definitely one of my favorite tasting menus and fairly reasonably priced compared to some other. There are only 8 courses which is on the lighter side but it was a perfect amount of food for me and I still left there feeling full. Favorites were the salmon and the scallops. The scallop has this sauce that was so flavorful and paired so well. I think this may be the best scallop I've had. Ambiance inside is very nice and moody. Great for a date night. Service is great as well.

What a night - me and my girlfriend came to jeong for my graduation dinner & did the wine tasting along with the tasting menu. I had such a phenomenal time - the waiters were EXTREMELY peaceful. I loved the atmosphere -- it was elegant but intimate. The food was mixed -- most courses were divine, especially loved the yogurt and salmon tartare and fish soup. Just truly excellent. There were a few courses we didn't like, but in all honesty, that's part of the charm. Even meals I didn't love, I could appreciate and understand why they were there. Everything flowed, was brought out quickly, and explained well.Best part: wine pairing. So worth it & so fun!Worst part: too much meat/fish. I came in on an empty stomach and by the middle I was pretty full, even though I wasn't finishing every dish. Very meat heavy. I was introduced this night to so much I have never experienced before. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyJeong is one best tasting restaurants that we have been to.
The food was delicious and combined unique flavors that makes you close your eye to savor the moment while you chew. It really takes you on a flavor journey that lingers with you long after the meal is over. The atmosphere is intimate yet approachable and the service was super nice. All in all, Jeong was an amazing experience and I can't wait until I can go again. All of the dishes were really good...The Chawanmushi king crab/caviar appetizer was the perfect way to open the experience with a great balance of subtle seafood notes mixed with a savory egg custard base. The salmon tartare was delectable plate of fresh fish and flavors that would fit in at the finest sushi restaurants. My favorite dish was the scallops which was served with a yummy sauce that I literally licked off the plate (when no one was looking). The Australian waygu was also a highlight which was cooked perfectly to highlight the sublime marbling of the meat. The two dessert dishes continue the unique, delicious flavors that still make my mouth water as I write this review days later. The first dessert was a shaved ice mixed with eccentric Asian flavors that a refreshing palette cleanser after the savory dishes. The second dessert was an ice cream/sorbet/berries dish that included mochi and candied honeycomb which was a perfect balance of tartness, sweetness, softness, and crunchiness. I also had the roasted barley cocktail which was AMAZING...it was like an alcoholic version of a barley tea which sounds odd but it works! All in all, I would highly recommend Jeong if you enjoy fine dining. We have been to a handful of Michelin stars restaurants in Europe and South America and this place humbly competes with the best of them.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing.
The standard for tasting menus that i refer to. Every time I'm in chicago i look for a table. If it was socially acceptable id lick the plates clean. Worth every penny. Be sure to use their hand soap too. The worst part is that they arent open every day.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant and ambiance.
Really perfect place for a date or some special occasion.I love when a non-American/Italian place does upscale fine dining. This place reminded me of Jungsik in NYC and I mean that as a compliment! The food was expertly crafted and delicious. Each dish was exciting and had multiple components. There's a few things that could've been improved, such as a dish that needed a crunch texture or some more acidity. But no real complaints overall. I think it would be even cooler if they leaned into korean flavors and ingredients even more. It was definitely fusion and some dishes felt more western. But the dishes that tasted korean were the best ones.11/10 recommend for a fine dining experience with great food!
Be the first to Replyjeong is an experience.
The multi course really allows you to taste different flavors and dishes that maybe you wouldn't have picked from a menu. We came for valentines day during the week and it was romantic and great time. The hostess was really sweet and I appreciated a description of each dish as it came out. Also the timing for each dish was perfect and you never felt rushed. My favorite savory dishes were the duck and scallops, my husband loved the wagyu. Ending the tasting with the boricha and an iced tea was perfect. Our favorite cocktail was the Gochujang, it was different in a great way.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding.
Food, drinks, ambiance. From our first steps into the restaurant to our last bites of an astonishingly delicious dessert, we enjoyed every moment of our tasting menu experience. The service started well before our first bite. Jennifer Tran was a delight to communicate with pre-reservation, and I'm so happy we decided to celebrate a special occasion here. I haven't had such well-balanced and interesting flavors in a long time. I would not be surprised to see a Michelin rating accompany their name, which would only confirm what Jeong's diners already know.
