Best sushi I've had in Chicago (so far)
We had dinner at Juno at the recommendation of some friends as we talked about sushi options in Chicago. I've become a frequent visitor and am on the hunt for top end sushi options. I'm Japanese American (from California) and have traveled often to Japan. What stands out about Juno was the quality fo the fish and careful presentation - a hallmark of good sushi. We avoided the fancy, westernized rolls so can't comment on them. We stuck to nigiri and maki in traditional presentation. Each piece was carefully crafted and delicious. Serving size is small as many have noted but consistent with a more traditional and high quality experience. Our server was very well informed, very helpful, and offered great counsel on a choice of sake. My only negative comment would be that I found the sushi rice had a bit more vinegar flavor than I prefer. Our visit motivated us to consider the omakase option either at Juno or at their sister restaurant. If you love traditional sushi, Juno is worth a try.
Be the first to ReplyVery good Japanese restaurant
This is not your day-to-day sushi place, this is a fine dining with excellent service. Nice Sake selection. Large choice. Generally spicier than most Japanese's restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyI PULLED A PIECE OF METAL OUT OF MY MOUTH WHILE EATING THE RAMEN!
I was really looking forward to eating here. While eating the ramen I felt something weird in my mouth. I pulled out a piece of metal. So NASTY and so scary. The waiter was apologetic. The manager did not even come to our table and apologize or anything. What is the point of fine dining if you are not treated even with basic respect? I left feeling like a chump paying money to literally eat garbage.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, but a family of four can't afford it.
This is a trendy sushi place in a major metro area--so expect a great atmosphere, with incredible service. Unfortunately, this also implies that portion sizes are extremely small and each bite is costing the patron a lot (ALOT) of money. Is it worth it?--It depends upon motivation. A simple date night or an anniversary? Impressing a special someone? Birthday celebration?--Certainly, not just eating here after a movie or coming into town as a tourist. It's very good. The uni dish and the shooter were excellent. Same for the appetizer meatball and the scallop. The sushi, very good.
The dessert truffles were just ok, for us, but other patrons might love them.--However, the price point is the debatable topic. Sadly, even though I will give this 4/5, it's also hard for me to recommend it, for paying so much, for so little actual food.
Not up to par
We eat sushi all over the country and found this not what we were hoping for. The room is beautiful and the service was good, but the sushi is just OK. All of the appetizers are beautifully presented, but tiny in size. They work well for maybe a single serving or for two people to share, but not more than that. The cucumber salad was good, but itty-bitty. The octopus appetizer was visually overcooked, and sort of soggy in texture. The seaweed salad was minuscule. Also, their regular rolls were tiny as well, including the salmon roll and tuna roll, and made us feel like we were sort of getting ripped off. The sashimi portions were much smaller than we usually get as well. They do have some interesting nonalcoholic beverages, but most sushi bars now have a nonalcoholic beer, and I was disappointed not to see that as an option. If I were looking for great sushi in town, I would keep looking elsewhere.

Came here several years ago and found a great/better experience this go around.
Food - 4
Sushi was fresh and quality is high. Sushi rolls are typical and nothing extraordinary or creative. They price their sushi above the actual quality and skill level of the actuality.
Service - 3
Wait staff is very busy but attentive. Unlike a typical sushi bar in Japan the sushi chefs here are very stuck in their world and not friendly or talkative. This may be trend here in Juno but a little different.
Atmosphere - 4
Nice trendy look. The first rooms looks like a small lounge bar that leads into the main dining hall which opened up to a hype trendy spot with tables a little cramped.
Will not return. Do not think they are priced right for their level.
Perfection!
Friends took us here on a recent visit and we were not disappointed. Friendly, relaxed service in a cute neighborhood. Excellent options, especially for someone who lives in a small town and appreciates quality Japanese food. Our main server was spectacular - her passion for food is evident.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing sushi in Chicagoโs Lincoln Park
Juno is amazing. They have great ingredients and good attention to detail. Their rice is a great balance of sweet and vinegary which is a fantastic foundation for the fish. I recommend the smoked sushi pieces and the Juno king. Ask for anything special and trust that chef will only put high quality food on his menu. There is a quaint front room and a gorgeous dining area. The hostess always makes us feel like weโve come home.
Be the first to ReplyFresh very tasty sushi spot
Happy to find a neighborhood (walkable) sushi spot in Lincoln Park. Attentive service, good menu, very good sushi. A bit on the pricey side so not an โeverydayโ spot but delicious nonetheless.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food -- and good to see a standout sushi restaurant with nice decor, as well
Consider the Chef's Choice Sashimi, which at $44 for two people delicious and very good value. HINT: Juno can upsize the portion to 3 people with a proportional 50% surcharge; just ask the server.
Also consider the Smoked Hamachi, which is a specialty. Juno can also upsize this dish, which has two pieces, to three pieces for a surcharge.
It can be hard to find good wines by the glass at sushi restaurants, beyond sake, but Juno had a great Sancerre (blanc) by the glass.
Three people with alcohol was $333 all in, including tip.
We celebrated my sonโs 16th...
We celebrated my sonโs 16th birthday when we dined here last weekend. We decided to give it a try due to good reviews and it did not disappoint us. The ambiance is very nice. The service is superb. And the food was really great! It is pricey but on occasion like this, it is worth the splurge! We will definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely THE best dining experience of my life!
Wow, where to begin for this review? I'll start off by saying that this was not just a meal out - this was a dining experience! I am a big sushi fan and a huge fan of Chef BK.
The service was beyond stellar. Grace, our waitress (although she was so much more than your typical waitress), was extremely knowledgeable about every item on the menu. She took the time to go over everything and to talk to us a little to get a feel for what we would like. She then advised us on what order our selections would be brought out to maximize our dining pleasure. She checked back with us frequently and was attentive and polite, as were all of the staff including the chef's working behind the sushi bar.
Now to the food. I honestly feel that any word I use to describe the quality, flavor or presentation of our meal would be a disservice to Juno. It was simply the best meal I have ever had. The fish was so fresh and so expertly prepared that each bite was better than the last. There is not one thing I would change about my experience. For cocktails I recommend the Persimmon Manhattan as well as the sake flight. As for the sushi you literally can order anything and it will be amazing. I'm pretty sure we tried about half of the menu and all of it was phenomenal. Of course, this level of food and service comes at a premium price, but for what our bill was I still feel it was worth every cent. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you love sushi then you absolutely MUST eat here.
