Kappo Masa New York Reviews from The Last Year

Good food but when you consider prices it becomes sort of a glorified japanese food hall diner. However, if you are paying $3K/night at a nearby hotel, then this is right up your alley.
I visited Kappo Masa for my birthday and was very excited.
The food was lovely, I loved the duck tacos and calamari which had hibiscus chips. I ordered a wide variety of sushi, which was good but not great. The service could have been a little better considering the waitress spilled the sake while serving and did not clean it up. They also failed to clear the plates before serving us the following courses. They also did not clean up in between any of the courses to ensure the table did not have any crumbs, etc. I was expecting excellency but the service was a solid B-.
Good and consistent quality
Must have been here 6-7 times and the food is top quality with good service The receptionist are very efficient We requested table change due to strong a/c and this was done without any fuss very efficiently
It's a hustle, not worth it. The corn fritters were good.
First of all, it's noisy and not fine dining. We needed a reservation someplace that could seat us at 8:30 so this is where the concierge from the Carlyle suggested. It could be considered upscale but to me it feels like eating in a busy airport. We are not price sensitive but don't like to feel hustled either. The prices don't make sense in regards to the quality of the food and service. The service is average. They continually try to wipe up every speck of food on the table brushing a dirty rag up against your chopsticks which to me is off-putting. It's also off-putting to have them picking up and rearranging my chopsticks between every course. It seems like a failed attempt to justify their prices since they never really clean the table properly. It's mostly for show in my opinion. They also rushed us through some of the courses and tried to remove dishes that we were still eating by picking them up to clear them before asking if we were finished. To me that's not just unprofessional, it's rude. The food was good but almost double what you might expect to pay for similar food elsewhere. The portions were average sized to slightly below average. The only dish I tried that was above average quality were their corn fritters. The sushi rolls I tried would have been okay if the rice wasn't overcooked, hot, and porridge like. I have never had an eel avacado roll like theirs before. It was filled with bones and dried out eel, mushy/slimy over cooked hot rice and no sauce. Most places that are getting $250 per person (with tip) without drinks for such a small amount of food offer some little sweet bite at the end of the meal. Even a basic hole in the wall Chinese spot will give you a fortune cookie. In summary, if you want to spend $250 for average Japanese food and average service in a chaotic setting while walking away hungry this place is for you. Enjoy.
This restaurant is so overrated that the word "overrated"
This restaurant is so overrated that the word "overrated" doesn't quite describe it. From the start, the waiter PUSHED AND PUSHED the entire table to order the tasting menu. At $350 a person--it's no wonder. He is tipped on the amount of the check--which, if he hadn't lied to us at every single turn and had the actual meal been good--it might have been an experience of a lifetime. However... First: I've had better sushi at my neighborhood all-you-can eat. This sushi was masqueraded in sauce and good pottery. The actual taste of ALL of the food was D minus at best. Most of it was inedible. The cooked fish was fishy and the raw was just bland. But the service was despicable. Second: one of our party (our host!) took us there as first timers to enjoy raw fish but she stated very clearly to the waiter that she was not into raw and if he could tailor her "tasting menu" to cooked, she would order the tasting menu, after she had told him that she was content to just order alla carte. He very vociferously told her that of course the chef could easily accommodate that request. But of 6 courses (such a rip off even for pricey upper east side nyc) only one was cooked for her. Third: At one point I asked "what is this?" when referring to a fish that I didn't recognize and was told "I'll tell you in a minute.." That minute never came. And it became crystal clear that the bottom line buck was front and center. Once the order was placed from a confusing pushy waiter, the dye was cast and the customer took a back seat. It was sell, sell, sell all night long. Fourth: the bill was $2400. Yep. Oh--and it was so loud you could not hear yourself think. Unbelievable really. Never again. Please do not go to this restaurant. They should not be in the restaurant business.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venueโs rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a responseโฆ how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been โmatchedโ with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming โbotsโ and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately itโs become like any other โside hustleโ. Donโt waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also donโt pay these fake โgurusโ hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. ๐
