If you're looking for a luxurious sushi experience, look no further than Katsuya. From the moment you walk in, you'll be impressed by the elegant decor and attentive service. The menu at Katsuya is extensive, featuring an array of fresh, high-quality sushi and sashimi options, as well as creative maki rolls and other Japanese-inspired dishes. The sushi chefs are clearly skilled and take great care in their craft, resulting in beautifully presented and delicious bites. One standout dish at Katsuya is the crispy rice, the quality of the fish and other ingredients used is exceptional. In addition to the sushi, the restaurant also boasts an impressive drink menu, with a wide selection of sake, beer, and wine to pair with your meal. The servers are knowledgeable about the various options and are happy to make recommendations based on your preferences. While Katsuya is certainly on the pricey side, the experience is worth every penny and more. The upscale ambiance, top-notch service, and exceptional sushi make for a truly memorable dining experience. Whether you're a sushi connoisseur or just looking for a special night out, Katsuya is not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant adds a 5% recovery charge to the bill.
Do the waiters get any of that money? No. The kitchen staff? No. Anyone physically working in the restaurant? No. Do they tell you this? No.If you read the fine print you can request for this charge to be removed, but most people aren't going to look closely enough to see that so they will end up tipping less due to the additionally charge.Such a practice hurts those working in the restaurant. An utterly selfish policy that only benefits the owners while hurting those who need the money most.
Be the first to ReplyOverall it wasn't unpleasant.
Just incredibly overpriced, tiny portions & service where the waiter doesn't check back on you until you are ready to pay. We also had the wrong meal delivered to our table but didn't bother trying to get it corrected as we couldn't flag our waiter. The meal and drinks were still delicious but at almost $300 for everything for two people, definitely over priced and so many more options to explore before ever returning.

The ambiance and decor of the restaurant is very welcoming, intimate and cozy. I love that they have coat check at the hosts stand. I also like that they have a bar for a more chill vibe. Now let's get into the food. I am actively writing this review as I eat my meal because it's so well executed. I ordered the shrimp tempura to start and I got it wrapped with soy paper instead of seaweed which I'm glad they offer that option. I am now on the main course. The short rib is beautifully presented and the meat melts in your mouth and is so well seasoned. I got the sweet corn on the side. It would've tasted really well with some garlic mashed potatoes (I know it's a Japanese spot but still). I will say the snapper was underwhelming compared to the short rib. For the type of restaurant I wasn't expecting snapper nuggets. All in all i think this is a very cute spot to host a birthday, hang out with friends or go on a date. They also have a cute chefs counter if you want to come solo (it's something I'd probably do when I come back).
Be the first to ReplyKatsuya is definitely more of a TikTok-hyped restaurant.
I wouldn't have considered coming if not for a friend's birthday. Overall, I wasn't disappointed but not exactly impressed. The famous spicy tuna crispy rice did taste pretty good. The rice becomes chewy, almost like mochi, so that was interesting to experience. At the very least, there were plenty of options for soy paper or cucumber rolls for those who avoid seaweed. I was okay with my Katsuya, Manhattan, and Salmon Lemon roll. Nothing was stand out. What was unexpected about the Salmon Lemon roll to me was that there were actual lemon slices on it. I thought the salmon would just have lemon juiced on top. Katsuya definitely does not serve traditional sushi. I came with a decent sized group and we shared quite a few appetizers, too. Again, nothing really blew my mind, which I believe sums up my review.
Be the first to ReplyI loved this meal.
The Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice was so creamy (though it could use a bit more spice). Rock shrimp is hard to mess up, and it did not disappoint. I was however blown away by the crab handrolls, the creamy salmon handroll, and the yellowtail jalapeño. All delicious. I highly recommend the Manhattan roll as well. We also got the miso chocolate cake sub vanilla ice cream which was incredible.

Was looking forward to dining here after reading lots of positive reviews but was quite disappointed. This place is expensive for what it has to offer. To start with the service was extremely slow, they forgot to get our drinks after taking the order and it took them 30 plus mins to serve the desserts afterwards. The cocktails are over priced and below par. All we could taste was lots of sugar and Yuzu. We opted for Chef's signature menu for $85 per person and it was a bad decision. 1) Rock shrimps were oily but tolerable2) Spicy tuna on crispy rice was the best amongst the lot3) Baked hand rolls were disappointing, idk what kind of roll they had used but it tasted very doughy4) Cod was extremely salty and inedible 5) Chicken Katsu bites... I mean you can't go wrong with fried chicken6) Yellow tail carpaccio was decent 7) Dessert platter was the saving grace though it was just ice cream, mochi and mousseOur bill was close for $600 (including tax and tip) between 5 people and we definitely did not leave as happy customers. If you want some pretty Instagram worthy pics then do visit but don't expect beyond that.

Saw a bunch of videos about the crispy rice here so decided to check it out ~The spicy tuna crispy rice definitely didn't disappoint. We also got the crab hand rolls, wagyu dumplings, and rock shrimp tempura roll. Everything was so good and was served really quickly. But portions were a bit small for the price :( Really cute and vibrant restaurant right across from the Edge!
Be the first to ReplyI get why people are a bit ambivalent about Katsuya.
The menu is shockingly limited, plates are smallish, and their Stark geisha vibe is a little dated a aesthetically and politically. That said, we had a great meal. The room is updated chic-bordering-on-ridiculous, but the burnt salmon and jade colors combined with an art deco nod totally work, beautiful instead of campy. There room is hip and comfortable (but the music is loud, and well suited to Wall Street bros looking to impress their dates). The food was delicious in a deceptive way ... the sushi was unexpectedly creamy and rich, the kerage-styled chicken bites spicy and warm, and miso glazed salmon was perfectly prepared (though it wouldn't have killed them to put some more of the delicious broccoli on the platter, the surprising star.). The mushrooms were smoky and velvety. But you have to pay attention - there room is showy but food is precise. What put it over the top - expert service the whole way from manager to server. We were totally cared for in every sense, a type of service that is unique and appreciated. So yea, it's a corporate brand in a corporate setting, but for a lovely, chill night at a medium high price point, totally go.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, mediocre food inside what is essentially a mall.
Much better sushi to be had in Manhattan, cocktails are boring and overly sweet. Dessert is very good as is the red snapper but otherwise nothing noteworthy. And then when you leave you are inside a neon lit mall....
Be the first to ReplyTried a bunch of things off the menu.
Including their speciality spicy tuna crispy rice , yellowtail jalapeño and two speciality rolls. Presentation gets a 10/10 for the most part , taste gets a 6/10 , fish didn't taste fresh . For some reason it felt like everything was rolled yesterday. Definitely a fast food loungey place for after work with not so tasting food. Great social media btw bc they definitely got me

First time at a katsuya establishment and thought the chefs signature set would be fool proof. Unfortunately, there were only a few memorable moments from dinner: crispy tuna rice, yellow tail carpaccio, baked crab roll. Most disappointing was the pop rock shrimps which seemed under seasoned. The drinks were mediocre. I had tried the Sahara tent and it had an odd saltiness to it. Also, took us 45 minutes to get our dessert-- and it turned out to be ice cream and mochi. Would probably just get the rolls/ sushi/ sashimi next time.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give this place no stars I would.
Horrific service, DISGUSTING food, small portions & absurdly expensive. Ordered a lychee martini and it was so gross I couldn't even finish it. I've also never seen some menus having items & others are missing them. Table of 4, none of our menus synced up. Bizarre. The steak was ordered "medium rare" but it might as well have been cardboard. It was as tough as nails and so overcooked that it was even burnt. I'm honestly in such shock that this place is so horrific. The crispy rice was by far the worst crispy rice I've ever had. The rice was soggy, oily & not fried all the way through. The tuna was warm & didn't taste fresh. This place will be packed in NY for the first few months as people try it but if the kitchen doesn't change and the service doesn't improve, they will not make it. Horrific.

The restaurant is beautiful, try to sit away from the entrance. The yelling at guests as they enter the restaurant is a bit jarring and impedes any conversation you are having. Service was a bit chaotic, maybe this will improve as the restaurant is new. Sushi and cocktails were fine, not great, not bad. We had higher hopes, our search for fantastic sushi rolls on......
Be the first to ReplyThe baked crab hand roll is good.
But the beef tenderloin toban ($65) has a strange sour and fishy taste. It's definitely overpriced.

Love love love Katsuya! Love all of their locations the food is incredible! I love the new additions to the menu! They were delicious! I am obsessed with the variety of app items- such a unique mixture of flavors. My fav were the salads/ tofu / hamachi jalapeño, and spicy crispy tuna! I didn't like the tuna seared surprisingly thought it was fishy! The sushi rolls are basic but good- I'm not a huge fan of the speciality rolls here. I would request they make some new unique rolls, but I'm not complaining about the basic - they are good!
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is some of the best I ever had.
Every single dish was very good. From the red snapper, the tomahawk short ribs, the wagyu gyoza is must order. The service was perfect. Couldn't be more polite and engaging. Food came out so fast and presentation looked beautiful And the general manager was very helpful. She wanted to make sure your night was a special nightHighly recommend

I went the other night and had a fantastic time; the food was delicious and fresh. I loved the decor. It was so beautiful luxurious, and really comfortable room. We sat in the semi-circular booths. I love those types of booths. So many creative, exciting dishes. We ordered a lot of food so we could taste and share. The crispy rice salmon was the best I've ever tasted. The albacore tuna thin tender melted in my mouth. I love octopus. It was perfectly cooked.I think they called it the sunset roll; it is eel avocado. So generous with so many pieces, everything was excellent. We had a mango mousse for dessert with crunchy chocolate pieces. I was amazed at how delicious. I don't typically eat desserts at sushi restaurants, but this was exceptional. The spicy margarita was strong and such a delicious cocktail with sushi. I can't wait to go; it was so much fun and so delicious.
