🤮 1/5 - I feel it often seems wearisome and petty and selfish to

I feel it often seems wearisome and petty and selfish to hear people bitch about poor service. We all know it's a hard and oft-underappreciated job. So I'm just going to say that we sat down here at 8pm and got served our food at 9:29 (which I know specifically because we set a 9:30 deadline for just walking out). Our party of three sat at the end of a long communal table on a full but not insanely crowded night. We each ordered a glass of wine and a shared appetizer. One glass came out wrong, but no harm, we placed our dinner order with the waiter, all in normal time. Then we waited, and waited...We were having a nice chat catching up, but all at once we realized it had been a while--probably didn't help that the spot next to us cleared, was reseated, and the couple moved through apps to dinner all while we couldn't even spot out waiter to ask for an update. We eventually did and got an "any minute" and here's where things got weird. Another 10-15 minutes passed. My friend went to speak to the hostess, Betsy, and we could eventually see some stirring in the kitchen. When the waiter finally reappeared he totally threw the kitchen under the bus, claiming it was "all their fault and they were making him look bad." Even if this was true, it just felt unprofessional and selfish, and in poor taste. I will say the food was mostly solid to good. We split the beet, feta and pistachio salad, and I rather enjoyed my beet kubeh. My friends' dishes (hanger steak, chicken schnitzel) were a bit less successful according to them. Absent the other issues it'd be someplace I'd probably say was fine (if not quite a rave), good enough for to overlook some delays. But this was just too egregious--while I appreciated the food, I was really too tired/hungry to truly enjoy my meal. I will also say the team did make an effort to make amends. There was a bit of confusion in that I thought the hostess, Betsy, said they'd comp us another round of drinks, but what they did was remove the drinks from our bill (which was nice, though I could have used another after all that time!) They also brought us comp desert--we were tired and not exactly in the mood for that (again, would have preferred the second round) but figured we kind of deserved it (asked for the check with dessert!) I found the baklava too sweet, but the Turkish coffee ice cream was really something--really tasted like coffee, not like a sickly-sweet latte like your standard coffee ice cream. I hate giving one star but I just can't fathom going back--or recommending to anyone--after such an extensive, strange, never quite explained delay.
