Kulto Singapore Reviews from The Last Year
Beautiful soccarat
Kulto, Amoy Street: The beautiful socarrat of the paella is why you’re here. Heat is turned up in the east 2 minutes for a perfect soccarat. King of paella Kulto serves up these monstrous pans - we had 3 for the rowdy group. Squid ink, seafood and pork. The best-tasting rice was from the pork paella, the fat simply sizzles up the taste. I am a carb-avoidant pescatarian and I had to break the carb rule for a full-flavoured gastronomic experience here. Seafood was a feast for the eyes and squid ink was a little flat in flavours in benchmark against the two other greats. The other gorgeous appetisers were shrimp on bread - you’lll mop up every drip of pow-wow oil on the plate. We also had the octopus, peppers, tuna tartare with breaded avocado and Jamon. With the exception of Jamon which I didn’t taste, all were heavenly. Leave room for desserts. We had none but still stuffed ourselves silly anyway. Cheesecake was God-sent. But the true show-stopper was Spanish Torrija which tastes like churros with chocolate and hazelnut ice cream. Was the 1.5 kg overnight gain worth it? Absolutely. #eatstylishtravelstylish
Paella had socarrat but not much rice
The Lychee martinis were nice and we shared a starter of Crab Croquettes and a Seafood Paella .and the dessert Spanish Torrija with Choclate Sauce. We chose this place because other options had no availabillity. The Seafood Paellawas flavoursome and had adequate seafood but the amount of rice was so shallow that with having to scrap the "socarrat" off the bottom of the pan, there really was not much rice to share between 2 people (and we are not big eaters!!). I noted that not everyone got the crusty rice but we did and it meant that there just wasn't much rice so at $56 SGD for the dish, I think it was a mean portion unfortunately. Overall a pricey place, not the best value though.
Great spot for Spanish food
First, I'd recommend this place if you have some cravings for Spanish food. I'd definitely recommend their paella, even though paella is never high on my go-to-eat list for Spanish food. The sharing portion is just nice for 2-3 person, leaving plenty of space for other delicious food too. The iberico pork belly with piquillo pepper and caramelised onions is one of the highly recommended tapas I'll suggest you to start with. For mains, the iberico pork ribs are also to die for. Grilled nicely on the outside and still very pinkish on the inside. The chilli crab croquettes are definitely the only blemish on the night, my personal opinion is that it isn't special and tasted pretty normal, it is literally chilli crab sauce and potatoes croquettes. And don't forget to reserve a piece of their signature cheese cake! If you want a quiet ambience, do ask for the inner seating during reservations. But I feel the outside seats give a nicer vibe.
