Kuya Lord Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
Kuya lord is truly fantastic.
I think elevating cuisines can sometimes lose authenticity in flavors, but that's not the case here. Location and parking are t great, but it's worth circling the block for a parking spot. The best thing I had was the Hiramasa collar. Perfectly prepared, this fish collar was flavorful, flakey and absolutely delicious. The lucenachon is perfect. Crispy, tender and sumptuous. The pancit sotanghon was delicious and full of veggies. I loved the atchara (pickled vegetables) sides with each dish. Filipino food is often seen as fatty and meat centric from people who don't know the cuisine. The Java garlic rice definitely isn't your mom's garlic rice, but it's very delicious. Calamansi pie was delicious and not too sweet. The chef and owner was there and very sweet. Service was fast. You do have to go around the back of the restaurant to use the bathroom which is inconvenient, but that's the only thing I'd bellyache about. Overall fantastic food that needs to be celebrated.
We ordered a bunch of things.
Pork belly-lechon, pancit, short ribs, rice and we also got dessert. It was ok. I think I had my hopes to have the best but it was ok. Would come back.
Food was good but not great.
The price is too high for the small quantity of the food. $25 for a rice bowl with fried pork belly is pushing it too far. I was still too hungry after eating the bowl. The kuya tray with your choice of meat was $45. We got half a chicken and came with two scoops of java rice and noodles. The java rice was okay. The noodles were mushy and sweet. Service was also okay. Took very long for the chicken to come but it wasn't fresh or have that 'hot off the grill' taste. It should've been hot and fresh for that long or a wait. The best thing was the kuya tray with slow roasted pork belly. Skin was crispy yet meat was very tender.

4/13/24 This review is based off the food ordered by my friends. If I recall correctly, we had pancit, fried rice, tocino, longanisa grilled chicken & fried milkfish. Everything tasted pretty good. My friends also said they enjoyed the food. There was a dish made with tofu but not sure what it's called-apparently it's what they're known for. We were all excited to try the calamansi pie, it was good but not that spectacular-probably because we all expected it to be really tangy & that it would capture the real taste of calamansi. It was worth the try though. I didn't really play close attention when we were ordering & I don't think I saw the usual staples like tortang talong, bistek or adobo. I'm glad we tried this place out

This was the first time eating Filipino cuisine and long story short, I will be back. I went initially to the sandwich shop next door but ended up getting some pork belly and guava rice while I was waiting. The flavors were unlike anything I have had before and I wondered if the rice and pork were the best bite of food I ever had. The only thing that I could say was that it was a little salty, and is much more enjoyable with a beverage.

Looks like the owner of this place gets really defensive with reviews based on the replies. There's a pattern of bad customer reviews. Bad business and bad food. Totally not recommending this place to anyone. Negative star. Also, your post of accusing me of bashing is a form of harassment. I will be reporting this business as well to better business bureau. For those of you who is a victim of this owner and this place because you posted your "unsatisfactory" reviews, please go to this website: https://www.bbb.org/process-of-complaints-and-reviews/complaints#

I'm shocked that this place has any low reviews, the food was absolutely delicious and so worth the drive out! While it's Filipino cuisine, don't come here expecting traditional dishes. Kuya Lord puts their own spin on things which is different but still feels genuine! The only downside is the lack of space and seating in the restaurant itself, so I would recommend taking the food to go rather than planning to dine in. We ordered the Lucenachon tray which was the perfect amount of food for two people. The meat paired with their homemade vinegar was so good!!
Heard great things but was very underwhelmed.
Had to wait 40 minutes for our food when others who were in line behind us got their food first. Now onto the food... got the Kuya tray, which had a little bit of everything to try, and the kewali lechon. Also ordered the honey calamansi drink. The meats were extremely salty, although the lechon and sausage had good flavor. Beef was dry. I enjoyed the honey calamansi drink. Restaurant was packed around 5:30 making it difficult to find a seat, but eventually we were able to get a table. Unfortunately the long wait and subpar food on top of that really made Kuya Lord a miss for me.

Modern Filipino Food that would benefit from better service
Derived from the Tagalog word for “older brother” combined with Chef Lord Maynard Llera's name Kuya Lord offers regional Filipino dishes rethought through classical technique on Melrose at the corner of Western Avenue. Begun as a pop-up out of the Chef’s home during November of 2020, pandemic restrictions still in full effect for most of California, three intervening years find Kuya Lord firmly situated on several “best of” lists despite just 21 seats. Considered "quick casual," a concise menu and online ordering seeing the staff of four in non-stop motion even as guests are responsible for bussing their own tables, prices range roughly $20-30 per person for hearty portions of everything from roast Meats to Noodles. Filled shortly after opening with a crowd of varying ages and ethnicities, music overhead adding to the buzz, most plates arrive perhaps fifteen minutes after the bill is paid and every single one finds distinct balance thanks to the combination of fermentation, salt and sweetness. Beginning with “Filipino Ramen,” a steaming bowl of Pork Broth loaded with Pork Belly adjacent textural components and fried Garlic, Llera's Pancit utilizes thicker Noodles than usual with a lot of Umami added by Fish Cakes. Focused more on Pork than the famous Fish Collar, both Lechon with shattering Skin and chopped Lucenachon tender as one can find, sweet Tocino alongside Garlic Rice and Pickled Green Papaya is fragrant, filling and lightly perfumed by smoke. Not one to skip Dessert, both available in limited quantities daily, Calamansi Pie eats nearly identical to Key Lime with a subtle hint of Coconut while Filipino Peanut Brittle Spread adds depth to delicate Rice Flour Cake.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
Newbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
