Cocktail and Bar review only.
I didn't have any food so I cannot review the food. But the cocktails - oh heavens - what a delight! Brando the Bar Back was such a charmer on the first round, I came back after my dinner elsewhere for another cocktail by him. I highly recommend sitting at the bar - the bar stools are like sitting on the most comfortable couch in the world.

I have been here a few times, but my most recent visit was the best. I usually sit at the bar and Ricky & Brendan were a great team. They were organized and communicated really well to give the best service they could, so it was a pleasure to watch them work. The kitchen was backed up, but Ricky came in with different ideas to ensure I had the best experience while waiting. They both are attentive, communicative, and kind. 4 stars only because my last visit was not as nice as this one.

Food took way to long to come out I'm a child on a school trip and we had 1hr to get food, we sat down at the table and ordered, it took almost 40 minutes for 4 items, two of which were starters. Although the two starters were good, the calamari pasta was way too salty and did not taste well. Another thing would be the 20% gratuities we had to give. The service wasn't even good. Would not go again.
Be the first to ReplyNice staff but sneaky.
.. First time having the hardest crunchiest al dente... He said he could have the chef remake it in four minutes and it came out in four minutes (same plate we sent back). They added a 20% tip for three people and didnt show me my itemized receipt until I asked. Funny thing is I work in the restaurant industry and tip minimally 20% anywhere I go but they were being sneaky about it. The sauces were good but the hardness of the noodles in each dish ruined the experience. If enough people write reviews about it maybe you should reconsider cooking the pasta a tad bit longer... How many more bad reviews do you need to do something about it?

Okay. Automatic 20% tip that you can't adjust down. Normal service but nothing special - don't even know my waiter's name. Food is good but after your initial hunger calms down, it's a bit salty. The drinks are good though - if you still go, try the Amaro Mule. 3/5 - could be better. Not catered for an American audience.
Be the first to ReplyVibes were off, food was mediocre.
The seats were all so cramped next to each other. The service was terrible; no place to put coat and when I pulled up another chair, a worker came and took it away.... Had to eat with my coat on my lap. My friend & I (both WOC) were treated differently than the other customers: workers were rude and barely came to check on us, pasta was stale and undercooked, and they even had the audacity to add on an automatic 20% gratuity -- I asked for it to be taken off & I did not see other people automatically being charged that. Will not be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyService and food are amazing.
I highly recommend sitting at the pasta bar. The lasagne is amazing.

We stumbled upon this place as we were walking through Chelsea Market. At first glance, the ambiance of the restaurant was appealing and it was pretty crowded inside. We ordered a pesto pasta and the spare rib ragu. I understand the pasta was supposed to be Al dente (pesto pasta was fine), but the ragu was crunchy, undercooked, and almost inedible. I was hesitant to ask the server but politely asked if they could remake the dish for me. He was very defensive when explaining it was supposed to be crunchy as the pasta was "Al dente". Reluctantly, he took back the plate and said "Would you like me to over cook it for you this time?". I was disappointed at the customer service especially given how pricey this restaurant was.

Service 5/5 Food 3/5 Price $$$ Located inside the Chelsea market. We saw a flyer on the exterior of this window for $16 pasta, but was mistaken once we were led inside to the back. The $16 price was for a take home portion. Prices for dine in were $35-60 for a bowl of pasta. It was a cozy, fine ambiance at the oval bar encompassing the chefs in the center making live action pasta. The servers were attentive and all the staff seem to be Italian speaking. That was neat. I ordered a red sauce bucatini with wagyu. The noodles were cooked fine, but the sauce was too acidic for my enjoyment and I could not tell you if I tasted any wagyu in there. The price you're paying is mainly for the ambiance, not the food.
Be the first to ReplyI don't know why La Devozione has such a low rating.
.. their pastas were amazing! We ordered the pesto and truffle mac and cheese lollipop. Both were superb! The pesto was a tad too oily for me. I preferred the mac & cheese lollipop- the addition of the truffle was perfect and it was so fun to eat it in a lollipop form! The actual pasta itself is fresh and al dente! I would love to come back for a sit down meal and try some of their other dishes! The ambiance is nice- dimly lit and much quieter than other seating options at the nearby eateries (a perfect escape from the bustling environment of Chelsea market). However, if you're looking for a fast meal, this restaurant may not be your best bet...it took a little while before our order was ready (which is to be expected because it's pasta). If you have the time, it is definitely worth the wait!
Be the first to ReplyDo not order the spare rib rigatoni.
The rigatoni was wonderful, the sparerib sauce was waaay too salty . I live in San Francisco and I am used to great restaurants, this is not one!! I was thinking of trying the Olive, their upscale restaurant in the back. But after this there is no way i would ever entertain the idea of having an food in this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThis pasta was amazing.
They note on the menu that all of their pastas are cooked al dente. The ambiance was okay since it's inside Chelsea Market but towards the chef table is very nice. Staff was attentive and kind. I would definitely stop in again!
Be the first to Replyif you devote an entire restaurant to one category of food,
if you devote an entire restaurant to one category of food, pasta, one would expect the quality and dedication would be excellent. Unfortunately this isn't the case at "La Devozione". We ordered two different pasta dishes and both were terrible, the pasta was so undercooked, that you can't call this "Al dente" any longer and the pasta sauces were not good either. The ambiance didn't help the situation. We will never come back here
Be the first to ReplyI recently had the fortune of visiting La Devozione twice
I recently had the fortune of visiting La Devozione twice in a two month period so this review is a blending of those two experiences. La Devozione is one of the many restaurants located inside Chelsea Market. It is on the main level towards the middle of the building (way past the elevators and pop up market area). The restaurant is a modern looking eatery with relatively dim lighting and three different kinds of seating:1. Bar seating (right near the entrance).2. Communal seating (behind the bar seating, across the restaurant in a partially separated area).3. The Oval: a special, 30 seat, open kitchen area for prix fixe meals. Both times I visited the communal area was completely packed, so I wound up sitting at the bar. There is something fun about sitting there because the staff is constantly buzzing behind the bar (serving both food and drinks) so it is not hard to get someone's attention. My only reservation are the actual seats, which are kind of odd and hard to get into but once you're in they are rather comfortable.Service is always super friendly and the staff is more than happy to answer questions about the menu. They're also great at talking about what drinks may suit your taste (or which wine may be good with your chosen pasta) so I really appreciated that.So here's a rundown of the dishes I've had:La Devozione (Spaghetti, tomato sauce, fresh basil)I like to have a "baseline" dish at most restaurants and La Devozione qualifies as that. It is a very simple spaghetti dish but don't let that fool you. The pasta has a nice bite to it and the sauce is delicious. The basil makes the dish fragrant and I really enjoyed this both times I had it.Candele Spezzate Con Ragù Napoletano (Neapolitan spare rib ragù, parmigiano)When I looked at the menu before my first visit it was this dish that caught my eye. The spare rib ragù is no joke. Wonderfully rich with a good amount of meat and with the pasta it is absolutely a treat. Savory with a wonderful chew. This is one I plan to get again and again when I visit!Mista corta patate e provola (Potatoes, stringy smoked mozzarella)I have never had a dish like this before and I absolutely loved it. To me, it tasted like an elevated mac and cheese. I know that may sound like I'm putting it down but that is actually a high compliment. It had a wonderful texture and a creaminess that I loved. The pasta and potatoes offered a nice combination of bites and I really loved it!Pastamisù (Pasta tiramisù)Tiramisù is a wonderful dessert when made well (and this one was) but add on some fried and sweetened pasta and it becomes something fun! That is what you get with this dish. At first, you think the "crackers" on top are some type of sweet cookie or something, but it turns out that's the pasta!Overall I loved both my experiences at La Devozione so far and I can't wait to go back. :)

I'm gonna be honest, I don't usually trust to-go gourmet food to be fantastic. The reason why I chose to order from the Spaghetti To-Go spot by La Devozione is bc it's unique and I could see the gentleman making it right in front of you. I had to try! FOOD: We ordered La Devozione: spaghetti, tomato and fresh basil - that's it! No frills, no big deal. But the pasta, the ingredients and the technique made it absolutely delicious. The pasta isn't made fresh, it's their pasta that they sell that you can take home. Also, the unique thing about this sauce is that it stuck to the pasta! For $15 and for the amount. So worth it!!! LOCATION: Located inside Chelsea Market, adjacent to La Devozione restaurant. No seating for the to-go part. SERVICE: It's quick, took about 5 min in line and 10 min to make the food. Not many people were in line. Would I come back? Absolutely! I wanna try all of them.

Came here looking for a drink initially as all the other bars/places that offer drinks in the market were busy and didn't have seating. We sat at the bar for some drinks and the bartender was very nice. We had a few tequila shots and I really like that their drink selection was mainly from small owners and are additive free. The prices for the drinks were not bad at all. We ended up getting a pasta dish and got the Neapolitan short rib ragu and it was really good. The only thing to note is that they do not cook their noodles all the way through and is a true Al dente, according to the bartender that's how they cook it in order to digest properly. It's definitely preference on if you like it or not but I definitely thought it was undercooked at first until I asked and was educated on how they make it. The service was great and the ambiance was clean and modern. I enjoyed my time here.

My friend and I tried the 4 course tasting menu, which we felt was pretty underwhelming in terms of portion size and pricing. The food generally was pretty good but I've feel like I've had better esp being a restaurant that is in the 50 italian restaurants outside of Italy. The portion sizes outside the tasting menu also seemed bigger so would suggest just ordering a la carte.

La devozione - the red pasta ( was too sour and undercooked) not worth it all.Pasta that came with potato & mozzarella cheese was better.Drinks were too tangy. It costs around 80-100 for 2 people.
Be the first to ReplyI would probably give this place 3.
5 stars but decided to round up. To start I had some issues with them charging my booking ahead of time but after some back and forth with the restaurant, the manager was able to resolve this. He was kind enough to offer me and my friend a glass of Prosecco upon arrival as an apology for the mixup. The service was prompt and our server was friendly. The drinks we got after were good - a white wine and the mezcal cocktail, they have an extensive cocktail menu to choose from. It was also a nice touch that they send you home with a little box of pastries for the next day. What fell flat to me was the food itself. We opted for the 5 course tasting menu and I'm really glad we didn't do the 7 courses. As others have said several of the pastas felt way too Al dente to me. Maybe I'm just not enough of a pasta connoisseur to appreciate this! The worst pasta was the first one which was a dill and anchovy pasta. It was so overpowering in saltiness we both couldn't finish. My favorite pasta was probably the short rib ziti but it was a tiny portion. The other two pasta fell kinda in between the two. Nothing to rave home about. Given the price point is pretty high for this place I just didn't think it's worth it's given all the great Italian food in the city. Glad I tried it once but I see no reason to come back.

I am only rating the food: Let me start by saying pasta is my favorite food. I ordered the seafood pasta and it was by far the worst pasta i've ever eaten. It was so bland and had absolutely no taste. It was such a huge disappointment and for the price i got one shrimp and 3 other pieces of fish, that's it. Lovely service and nice experience to sit at the oval table and watch the chefs cook your dish but it was not good at all :(.

Wow, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in NY. We ordered the penne, rosmarino ceci gamberi, tolfette salsiccia. All 3 of these pastas were undercooked, the most egregious one being the penne. It was so undercooked that every bite was crunchy. The rosmarino pasta lacked flavor altogether and just had a very mealy tasting sauce because of the chickpeas. For the price point and the number of other nearby options, would not come back here for food.

Visited city, walked in Chelsea market, attracted by the decorations of the restaurant. However, the food was so disappointing! Choice is limited in the menu. It's really pricey. Can't imagine getting a spaghetti soup nothing better than a Campbell can soup charged for $29!!! Even though the service was not bad, dining environment is good, but the food is not deserved a try.
Be the first to ReplyLa devozione is a fine dining pasta experience that you
La devozione is a fine dining pasta experience that you won't regret going to. I spent a while debating whether to give it 4 or 5 stars but ended up going with 4 because at this price point, I'd expect perfection. Food 4/5: La devozione gives you a multi-course pasta meal all served al-dente. My favorite dish was the pasta with smoked mozzarella, yellow tomato sauce, and basil oil, which I thought was one of the best pastas I've had in NYC. The other dishes were generally good (the beet pasta was my next favorite) except for 1 pasta (the rosemary one) which was served a bit undercooked. Service and ambience 5/5: We sat at the circle pasta bar where you can see the chefs cook food. The chefs are quite social and I think these are the best seats in the house to sit in. The service is extremely high quality, which is expected at this price point. It skews more casual / friendly vs professional, which I personally liked.

I like the concept and decor, the concept of pasta bar is cool and the service was great and people very friendly, but the food was solidly mediocre, one dish was very undercooked (and no it wasn't Al Dente). The reason for 2 stars though is bc of the price. $165 for tasting menu (no drinks or tax tip) you would expect a lot higher quality. That's why this was so disappointing overall

I stumbled across this place because we were catching a play near by and wanted a lunch. We were totally not expecting to have our best pasta experience. I love pasta but this place is seriously serving next level in in terms of how creative the dishes are without any compromises in taste. The pasta I had here was better was head and shoulders better than I have had anywhere in NYC.Also loved the sitting arrangement and how the chef and staff were able to explain how the dishes were created. I will be coming back to try the tasting menu.
