La Grotta Ristorante Atlanta Reviews from The Last Year
Everything is so amazing at La Grotta.
The service the food and environment is incredible. I had to try everyone's food. My only issue was not enough vegan choices since we had someone vegan with us. For me a non vegan I give the

We come here for special occasions because it is a bit expensive, but the food, service and ambiance is stellar. Can't recommend this place enough!
What a cool restaurant, you wouldn't even know it existed
What a cool restaurant, you wouldn't even know it existed by the way it looks outside. It has a cozy, romantic vibe, perfect for a date night. The service was very good, our servers were attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food and drinks were awesome. A lot of the food we had was ordered to share and everything was very tasty. Really happy we were able to get in with a group of 6. Will be back.
Very charming, quite atmosphere.
Gives you the feeling of being in Italy. Building feels very historical that's what makes it special. Service was immaculate as you would expect. Jorge, Jonas and young Jose were excellent servers. Food was very good. No explanation needed. My son mocktail was very good. It was made with ginger beer. Dessert. They knocked it out the park!!!
My wife took me here for my birthday.
I don't understand how this place can give any bad reviews. People have complained about the food not being good. They must have not know how to order. The place is odd when you pull up because it's in a regular residential building but once you go downstairs the ambiance is wonderful. A quaint environment with a nice terrace. The food was amazing. The service was good and I loved it. I ordered a traditional Italian dish and it was so good. The waiter was knowledgeable and gave us a free Peach Bellini for my birthday. I loved it and it had a nice upclass atmosphere that you don't get with all restaurants and I can't wait to go back. Go here. You will love it but order REAL Italian food.
Disappointed in service.
We had 8:15 reservations from a month prior and we still had to wait for 15 minutes. Service was slow, it took forever to get a round of drinks. The waiters never came back to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything. I had the pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage and that was excellent. My husband had the fillet and it was not the best he ever had, below average. So disappointed after all I had heard about the place.
Let me start by saying what most other folks start by
Let me start by saying what most other folks start by saying when leaving a negative review: I usually don't leave these. But, when you dine at a restaurant which takes months to get into due to high demand leaving rare slots for reservations, you expect a meal that is memorable. This meal was memorable, unfortunately not due to the quality or taste of the food. From the moment we walked in, the valet did not appear to want to work, and when asked if the car could be parked closer he asked for a $50 tip. Our initial server had responses that were condescending when we attempted to order a bottle of wine, in addition responding in short questions that would seem to be normal for a first-time diners at this restaurant. Maybe he was just socially awkward, hard to know. I ordered the steak. Yes I know this is not a steakhouse, but the Italians in some regions are particularly known for their steak, and being a restaurant that is of some reputation that we were under the impression of, I ordered it medium rare. The ends were burnt, and the majority of the cut of tenderloin was grainy and chewed like a medium well. There was a dash of pink in the very center of the cut. I am not a steak snob, but I do expect a fine dining establishment to cook the meat accurately to medium rare. The manager came over and attempted to explain to me why my cut of meat was medium rare, and did so also with a condescending undertone. This was not appreciated, and I ended up canceling my order altogether after they offered to replace it. This ruined the experience for me. I shared and tastings of the dishes ordered by those at the table with me, and I wish I could say that maybe I just ordered the wrong dish. I am old Atlanta, and I expected an establishment such as this to carry old Atlanta values. Based on the quality of the food and the type of service, this seems to be catering to new (non) Atlanta. I'm not a food critic, nor do I really follow them. But, I cannot help but think about the recent reviews Keith Lee left for the few establishments he visited while in Atlanta. Restaurants need to start earning business again. $400 not well spent. They did not charge for the steak, and offered us a couple of extra scoops of gelato. The manager additionally came over and apologized. Unfortunately too little, too late. First impressions are everything. I will not be coming back, nor recommending any of my loved ones to waste their time waiting for a disappointing reservation. Oh and ambiance: waspy. There you go Yelp.
Amazing.
Great food and atmosphere. A little loud but service is too notch. Have gone back
Some of the best Italian food in the City of Atlanta.
Always has great service. The only down size is on Valentines Day a set menu. There was one one pasta selection. Wish is was regular menu.
I've loved La Grotta ever since their additional location
I've loved La Grotta ever since their additional location at the Perimeter (no longer there). The buckhead restaurant is equally nestled in a beautiful nature filled patio with the same best ingredients and delicious truly italian dishes made to perfection. A perfect spot for a romantic dinner night.
As always, La Grotta remains one of the best Italian
As always, La Grotta remains one of the best Italian restaurants around. The atmosphere is classy, so please dress accordingly, as people go for both the atmosphere as well as the food/vino. The super tuscan vino is great if you are looking for a new wine to try, you can order a glass or the bottle (I recommend bottle if there are 3+ in your party it ends up being cheaper than individual glasses). The sacchetti as well as the pappardelle are both wonderful dishes. The gnocchi is cooked perfectly if you are a gnocchi fan.
Amazing foods with good service, the place is chilling
Amazing foods with good service, the place is chilling absolute heavenly and good place for couple or family
Dont judge a book....
Pull up to a 60s apartment building. Take the elevator to the basement. Find yourself in an initiate setting with amazing service and incredible food. Everything was wonderful from start to finish. Can't wait to return!
Great Evening!
Great food, great service, wonderful ambiance. The valet area was a little backed up but they were moving quickly. Getting into the building to the elevator and down through the "brick walkway" added to the unique experience of finding the restaurant. We definately plan to return soon, anxious to try their outdoor dining.
Hands down, the best restaurant in Atlanta! Always our
Hands down, the best restaurant in Atlanta! Always our choice for special occasions or out of town visitors. Especially love the veal scallopini and the mussels.
Overall, great experience if you want an elevated Italian
Overall, great experience if you want an elevated Italian meal. Highly suggested for nice dinner dates or meals with extended family that you'd like to impress. Service was friendly and helpful in giving suggestions to even the most inexperienced in wine selection.
Disappointment
Is this place over-rated or have we just not yet found the right entree? We went to La Grotta years ago and can’t remember why we never went back, but perhaps we had the same food experience. The ambiance and service were top-notch. No problem there. Bread basket was decent. Wine suggested by waiter after I told him what I like was excellent. We had an off-menu 3-pasta sampler as our starter. Loved the lobster pasta, the bolognese was excellent and the ravioloni good. So far, we were happy campers. Then our entrees arrived. The chicken parm showed no finesse. As one of the least expensive entrees, we figure it’s on the menu for those who are not very adventurous with unsophisticated palates. It was served with a ridiculous pile of overdone pasta on the side. Dover sole was decent, but perhaps showed too much restraint with an almost non-existent sauce. The veggies that came with the sole, however, were perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was a birthday celebration and tho there was a candle on the dessert, we were charged for the three scoops of sorbet on a dish with a candle in it. With the high prices here, you’d think they could afford to comp a couple of scoops of ice cream.
Fantastic service and ambiance.
Damien was our waiter and treated us like family. 5/5 recommend visiting this Buckhead gem!
Delicious!
Food and service were excellent! Highlights were the veal Parmesan and add red pepper flakes, diavolo calamari, tuna carpaccio and sacchetti. The location is in a weird spot.
Best Italian restaurant for a special evening
We visited with another couple. It is downstairs and a bit after a maze to find but once you’re in, it’s beautiful. Our waiter was professional, but also warm and friendly. The service by every server was unfailing perfect. My husband and I both ordered pasta dishes. Both were very good and the portion size was just right. Our friends both ordered veal dishes which they enjoyed. Dessert for my husband was tiramisu which he described as “light and chocolate-forward “. The dinner was faultlessly paced. The room is lively and romantic. We’ll definitely return.
A gem
The entrance of the property which is in the basement made me nervous. But after following the breadcrumbs and finding the restaurant I was delighted. It feels more like a restaurant from the seventies, which cares about each customer like they were their most important - A lost art. The service was over the top and the food was every bit as good. I will visit again.
Best Italian Food !
Probably the best Italian meal we have had, even better than many restaurants in northern Italy. Everything we ordered was delicious.
Best Italian in Atlanta
This is the best Italian restaurant in the City of Atlanta. Truly fine dining. The menu and wine choices are fantastic and if you don't see something you want, simply ask and more often than not they can prepare it for you. The food is delicious, and the service is impeccable.
Fantastic!!
Found this gem through trip advisor while in Atlanta on business. It is wonderful, so rare to find a restaurant that does everything and I mean everything to perfection starting with the attitude of the valets down to the dessert menu. As soon as I saw the menu the first night I immediately booked the next night. They allowed us to split everything so we had four courses each night and tried a good part of the menu. Every course met or exceeded expectations. The service is truly professional, very friendly and accommodating. The wine list is very well chosen, extensive and fairly priced. I wish I could eat here weekly. When in Atlanta do not miss this place.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
