Lacroix Philadelphia Reviews from The Last Year
First time for me dining here on Easter Sunday.
I was extremely pleased with the staff. Jorden, our waiter was very welcoming and kept our table on point. The buffet is massive and spreads from the dining area into the kitchen. I met two of the chefs, Josh and Kevin. Young guns. In my opinion, very proud of their kitchen, staff and food that is prepared. I can't say I ate everything but what I did was truly amazing. The Wellington was so good (pic provided). There was another dish that was like a ham and cheese casserole. Like a -- Croque Monsieur. Dessert was fantastic as well. I had a chocolate bunny that was definitely made in house. Perfectly tempered, milky smooth so delicious. There is French music being played as you dine.

I was hesitant to eat at Lacroix after reading some of the restaurant's recent reviews, but after a lovely dining experience, I am here to say that those people are wrong. We arrived on a Thursday night to a mostly empty restaurant. Service started out very slow despite there only being a few patrons. We were there for over 30 minutes before getting any bread, and I was starting to get hangry. After we placed our orders with our server, the service picked up. My husband and I decided to go for the four course pre fixe menu @ $135/person. It made sense since it was the better deal and was actually very reasonably priced. After eating some of the bread, I felt much better. The brioche bread was presented in the form of a cube. It could have been softer and more buttery on the inside, but it was still good. For our first courses, my husband and I both had the salad. Each chicory leaf was carefully stacked, with slices of celery root and citrus layered between the leaves to achieve the perfect bite with the soft and creamy cheese on the bottom. For our second courses, my husband had the langoustine (for an additional $10), while I had the pike dish. The quenelles of pike were essentially delicate fish cakes, served with a dark and savory sauce that was divine. The langoustine was also very good. I highly recommend the two. For our third courses, I had the risotto, and my husband had the veal sweet breads. The risotto was not actually risotto, but potatoes shaped to look like risotto. The flavors were good, and the serving of caviar was generous, but the dish would have eaten better if it was real risotto. My husband's veal sweet breads were super tender and flavorful. And for our final courses, my husband had the quail, and I had the venison. My venison was cooked to a nice medium rare. My husband and I both enjoyed our plates. Even though we were super full, my husband and I still made room for dessert, a millefeuille served with cotton candy on top. A playful twist on a classic dessert. Before we left, our server brought us complimentary chocolate truffles. These chocolate truffles were presented in a cloche and were shaped like black truffles, except that they were chocolate and had raspberry ganache inside. I have to say I am extremely blown away by Lacroix. The execution of the food at Lacroix is world-class. The menu makes sense, and the prices are comparable to places like Friday Saturday Sunday and Her Place Supper Club. Lacroix eats like a legit 2-star Michelin restaurant. We will gladly come back again and again.
If I can give 0 start for how we were treated on 1.
7.24, I would. I think this was the worst restaurant experience I had in my life. The staff was extremely rude, starting with the hostess. We had a reservation for a 2pm birthday brunch with my boyfriend and when we asked if we could sit at another table further away from a crowd of 8 people, we were told that "that table is not set, so you have to sit here". There were at least 10 open tables around, so it was not busy at all and they closed at 4pm. We didn't want to start an argument, so we just sat down. The hostess asked to take my coat and I said I just want to take something out of my pocket, which was met with "We're not going to go through your pockets, you can keep your coat". Then, when I asked for a spoon to stir sugar for our tea, the waiter said, "I imagine it's hard to stir with your finger". There were two tables, who also had a birthday and got a candle in their dessert, my boyfriend did not receive one, even though the reservation said that it was a birthday brunch. At the end, we received a confusing check that had a gratuity line and every time I asked about it, since a grand total and a total charged were different amounts, a different team member kept taking the check away and returning with a new copy. A third person told us that "we are not in the business of stealing" and "I have no control over what's written on the check". The food was amazing and I feel like if I'm going to spend $320 dollars for a vegan brunch, I wouldn't receive such rude attitude on such a special day. They've completely ruined my boyfriend's birthday.

The food is a tired menu from 1-1/2yrs ago.
The same things were not as good, which makes me think they are using a sous chef to do the prep. I was here about 6 months ago and it was better - but again the same food. Service was the biggest letdown. Previous service had a way of making the experience. This waitress was simply overmatched, and did not fit a quality dining establishment. What was worse was her annoying voice tone. Unfortunately she was the only service in the restaurant. along with an excellent busser who was here previously. Truly, he should be the server.

Lacroix is located at The Rittenhouse, offering a breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and even an afternoon tea menu. We were recommended to come here for dinner at a conference that we attended, so we made sure to make advance reservations, just in case. We started off with raw oysters (one type, rather than a variety) with mignonette and fermented hot sauce; and, a salad of roasted fig with pearl onions and mustard greens. For our mains, we tried the risotto of new potatoes with kaluga caviar and chives; parisian gnocchi with black trumpet mushrooms (this had an off-putting taste and odor to it, with some type of thick crust on the surface; pretty inedible), foie gras, and thyme; king crab with persimmon, guanciale, and sorrel; and, roasted scallop (slightly undercooked) with brown butter, rosemary, and spruce. Service was okay, but not memorable. The decor gives off a slight garden-esque vibe to it with warm colors. Hotel offers valet parking. Not sure if we felt that this was a worthy recommendation! +valet parking available

We had drinks and then dinner at the bar and found the whole experience to be excellent. The bartender, Amy, was full of anecdotes about the historical background of the drinks we ordered. The food was also fantastic. We all received cube-shaped bread before our meals, along with a flavorful butter that melted in our mouths. I ordered the raclette tartine and Parisian gnocchi with mushrooms, both of which were superb. My husband got the tuna tartare as a starter and similarly enjoyed it. Good ambiance and beautiful decor. Would definitely recommend!
Skip the brunch if you don't like wasting money.
Table of 2 was $320 for brunch, base price, No extras ordered. A $50 gratuity is imposed regardless of actual service quality. The $50 was not earned. I left feeling fleeced. We did not order anything from the server yet the service was still terrible. We were asked if we wanted coffee while walking back to our table! My companion didn't even hear him. We were never asked how everything was. They advertise nitrogen ice cream and it was not offered. The server acted like he didn't know what I was talking about. These prices are ridiculous for food that was very bland, not hot and not served with proper accompaniment. I could have a fabulous 3 course steak dinner served hot and prepared table side with drinks for less! The hostess barely even says hello when you arrive. A disappointment from start to finish.

Had a leisurely breakfast with my daughter/DP today and Lacroix is just a very special place in the Rittenhouse Hotel. They have a stellar breakfast buffet that closes at 1030 AM. They also do an orgasmic Sunday brunch that I'll review another time. We ordered off the traditional breakfast menu. The service was superb, professional and friendly. We bypassed the truffles and caviar dishes that can be added to eggs or ordered alone (caviar). We both had custom omelettes - a western for me and cheese for DP. Both came with a side salad and home fries. Cooked perfectly. We substituted toast for out of this world chocolate croissants. We also ordered the smoked salmon plate that was also luxurious with traditional garnishes. Fresh OJ and coffee were also ordered and refilled without additional charges. We will definitely be back. Front of house folks were also friendly and helpful. Our waitress was great as well. Would not miss this spot for breakfast, lunch or supper.
