L'Ambroisie Paris Reviews from The Last Year
Another much anticipated Mic star dinner with a slight disappointment...
L'Ambroisie, a name that speaks for itself... Michelin star, fine dining... what else could go wrong...? As expected the dinner started as perfect as any 3 star experience would. Nice table arranged, menu and wine selection, nice home made freshly baked bread to start off with... Our course selection included escargot minestrone and hot & cold egg both with caviar. Then came our main courses with roast pigeon, Jersey prime rib and sea bass escalope. That was when our disappointment came.. the sea bass had a fishy odour which was unpleasant to take. While the rest of the courses were up to standard, having such status of a fine dining restaurant offering this food quality was not acceptable. This is also the reason why I only rated L'Ambroisie as average based on the price I paid, their reputation and the quality that was offered. As usual the service team and sommelier was of great assistance as you would expect from this level of establishment but this fish course was just a disappointment. Hope the team will review/improve or even remove this course from the menu. Unfortunate to say I may not be visiting in near future...
L'Ambroisie is not a restaurant that deserves 3 Michelin stars
We went to L'Ambroisie today for lunch, a young waiter offered us to start with champagnes, we asked for the wine list, he said the champagnes are not on the wine list. So he didn’t give us the wine list and served us two small glasses of champagne (not even using champagne glasses) without telling us the prices. When we finally got the bill, one glass is 45€, another glass is 80€! We asked a senior waiter how come the second glass is so expensive? He said because it’s a very expensive champagne! We felt we were ripped off and made complaints to the owner, who showed us the wine list, surprisingly, the prices of the champagnes are on the top of the wine list! OMG! This is an absolutely dishonest service! After an argument, she only agreed to refund us 25€. (We both had lobster dishes, the food were okay but too salty. ) I must say that L'Ambroisie is not a restaurant that deserves 3 Michelin stars, and I am pretty sure we’re not the only victims. Obviously this restaurant practices a dishonorable behavior and cheating on the people from different countries who come to appreciate the great French Cuisine in Paris!
I left with some very mixed emotions after dining here.
For a three Michelin star restaurant with a lot of history, I was ultimately disappointed. Food: The food was beautiful but often lacked crucial elements. You could tell how much care and technique were poured into some very amazing dishes. The star of my tasting menu was the langoustine. The dish had an incredible sauce with a hint of curry which complimented the protein in an adventurous way. I was a big fan of the added texture from the crispy wafer but was not impressed by the bland spinach base. The sea bass was a stunner with its presentation, a truly luxurious dish. It played on some very classic techniques that had been upscaled to perfection. I would return to this restaurant for this dish alone if not for the chicken. I had such high hopes for the chicken but the breast was bland and dry. Even worse, the chicken drumstick was raw. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I tasted the piece to confirm my suspicions. Cold and rubbery, a complete failure. Service: the service way good overall, but there were too many hiccups. The staff accommodated us nicely as we arrived around 5-10 minutes early. Everyone was very friendly. However, it was very weird as the wait staff just stood there and stared at us. During the service there were many awkward disturbances, continuous bumping of our chairs, knocking our glasses, dropping a metal pan in a very quiet room. One too many to go unnoticed. For the special birthday event, the staff prepared a very lovely dessert which was excellent. Ambiance: It was creepy. There was no background music at all so we had to whisper for the majority of our dinner. I could hear the other patrons conversations like they were sitting right next to me. As mentioned previously, the wait staff staring at me while I ate was very unnerving. Overall: I left with the feeling of unfulfilled desire for excellence. I had such high hopes going in but left wanting much more. I would return to L'Ambroise for certain aspects but they need to clean up their act if they want to impress.
My absolute favorite restaurant in Paris!!! My husband and
My absolute favorite restaurant in Paris!!! My husband and I were here 15 years ago. Amazed by their venue, food and services. Went back on Thursday for our 20th anniversary. And this place is still unforgettable. We were greeted by Pascal, a French gentleman. He saw their 15 years old menu in my hands and knew that we are a return customer and a long time fan! As soon as we sat, he asked if he could look at my 15 year old menu. And he showed us the table we were sitting at 15 years ago! How sweet of him. He went through the menu we had and told us what they have that day. Then the Sommelier Axel introduced himself and offered his help. We both started with a cup of coffee and tea...he did not seem offended that we did not start with a glass of champagne. Once we inhaled our caffeine, we started ordering. And just like 15 years ago, the lady's menu does not have prices, only the gentlemen's menu has prices. That's so French and we still share this story with our friends and family. We started with a delicious Langoustine, best in its class! And then we moved onto escargot and the green egg with caviar, the veal for two, cheese and desserts. Everything was delicious and decadent! There's a team of waitstaff there, almost outnumbered their customers. That's 3 stars service for sure! We got very lucky, we had a team of very friendly French who spoke English with us. Kudos to Axel, our awesome sommelier! He's super fun to work with and made perfect suggestions to our wine. Every single glasses paired perfectly with our dishes including cheese and desserts! Laurent and Pascal are the most thoughtful guys there! We were offered the best service and had another amazing experience there! I will always love this place. And L'ambroisie will always have a special place in my heart.

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
