The space is beautiful and unique, it's a nice place to sit.
The staff was friendly but inattentive, and for what you're paying, you deserve a dedicated server, not an order-at-the-counter situation. The menu is very simplistic for the price - a pile of unpeeled, grilled carrots with some sauce on top is $15. Our proteins were heavily overcooked and deeply unseasoned, and came out about 10 minutes before the sides arrived. Pretty but lacking substance, wouldn't recommend.
A great addition to the area
I live in the area, but this place is always so crowded, I haven't gotten over there the first few months it was open. It was very good, and I will return. We started with glasses of wine, a goat cheese/olive oil appetizer, a beet plate and shrimp skewers. Sauces were magnificent. We had apple pie and berry pie, and since the dessert was slow getting out, we were comped a brownie and gelato also.

Ordered the bbq burger and soft boiled egg tartine from the lunch menu. The food tastes fresh and healthy, and is beautiful on the plate, but it took quite some time for the food to arrive. Outdoor seating is plentiful but not all of the seats have shade. It was noticeable that some tables were served promptly while others needed to pack their entire meals to go in order to return to work on time. Not sure if this lunch service was an anomaly but it's definitely something to consider if visiting for a lunch break.

Great concept - mid execution.
Tables are too small to fit all of the barbecued food. Another idea is to put picnic tables out back and have people sit cafeteria style? Also is confusing to make a reservation online, yet we order our whole order at the counter (excluding dessert) Must gets are the branzino & lamb. Skip the veggies.

I could not tell you if the food is good anymore because they do not run the place well like they used to do. No one can take an order. Seems like a lot of confusion or at least I was confused so that doesn't work. Be careful where you sit because you can get smoked out by the BBQ.

I came here for the first time for lunch and the ambiance is lovely - it's outside in Santa Monica which is really enjoyable in nice weather. I like that the food feels very streamlined and fresh. I had the chicken skewers which came with rice and veggies. I had a great experience with the service - where you order at the front and then your food comes out. Would definitely go back!

I was so looking forward to trying le great outdoors and had such high expectations because I had read so many great things about this restaurant, but sadly this was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The system for seating, ordering and serving is so confusing and inefficient. We had a reservation but upon arrival were told to sit wherever we wanted. It was a beautiful evening so we picked a table in the patio. But as soon as we sat down, the owner rushed over and forced us to forfeit the spot to some walk ins because he said there was a large party coming over an hour later. We were then told we could only choose from a small group of tables in the shittiest part of the restaurant, which is a really cramped hallway by the wine shop. I don't really understand the point of making a reservation and waiting weeks to dine here if they are just going to throw you in the corner. To top it off, unfortunately all the sides we ordered were forgotten, so we had to wait about half an hour after eating our mains to get those. They gave us a free slice of olive oil cake as an apology which was a nice gesture, but it was honestly super bland (along with most of the other things we tried). There's really nothing special about this restaurant, so if you are longing to go here like I was, I definitely recommend lowering your expectations or skipping it altogether. You can find better food and service almost anywhere else.
Really great food but not the kindest service.
I wish that I could say better things about this restaurant since I think their food is top-notch, but their service and some (not all) of the people who work there can be rude, unkind, and make it seem as if you're inconveniencing them. Maybe the staff is just overworked since they seem pretty agitated and exhausted... which is funny considering you have to go up to the bar to order anything --so they really are just handing you plates. I came with a friend who was eating lunch towards the end of their lunch service and went inside to order some food. I was told I wasn't going to be allowed to eat it at his table and I would have to eat it from a to go container at a table around the corner. It was only when they realized they couldn't fit the fish inside of the to go container that they brought it to me on a plate- at his table... The waitress made sure to let me know that this was an inconvenience to them... The food is great- I just wish they were nicer. Whoever wrote up their policies really needs to have a conversation with their staff about hospitality and how to navigate both policy and hospitality together. I have family in the restaurant business and I just know this is not how you do things....
Honestly I think this place is a bit overhyped.
It's in a parking lot which isn't a detriment but the drive up to it is a bit weird. They have a bit of a weird seating arrangement and it's really hard to get reservations which I think adds to this idea of exclusivity (but it's really not anything but). I love the menu + graphic design of the place which has a fun serif-y vibe and is just bouncy all around. For the food, I think it's a bit pricey and the dishes don't have that much specific craft to them. They're all decent and cooked fine, but there's a level of finesse that feels lacking. I feel like they went too hard on the "what's the experience of the place" and forgot to consider "is this food actually good". The steak that we got was oversalted and the brocollini was a bit undercooked. I would recommend the sardines, the chicken, and the carrots. But you're paying 10-15$ per dish which is like ???? WHAT is going on. I mean it is really cute and the ambience is amazing but like.... you can probably find something better.

Go to your auntie's backyard BBQ instead
This place is overpriced, underwhelming, and the food is devoid of any real flavor beyond that imparted from the grill itself. Save your money and go to a real friend's BBQ instead. Don't let the "cool backyard, order at the counter" vibe fool you; it is very much a way to skimp on service but still require you to pay way more than you should. My TL;DR story: After an already too long wait time, kitchen mismanaged cooking our rice and other food. Front of house staffer came over to give us two options 1) each the other food that's ready and plain rice separately or 2) wait for rice and other food will be made fresh. Eventually food comes out long after promised, ice cold, with STILL NO RICE. We wait for rice. Rice never comes. Fiance goes to complain to manager, can't find manager. Rice comes out and the manager does us the dishonor of sending a front of house staffer to apologize for "the whole thing". We are given two more options 1) wait for a fresh meal and still pay or 2) eat cold meal and get refund. We chose option 2, because have been held prisoner by this sad excuse for a restaurant and are famished. Still no manager. We did end up getting our meal refunded, which was really the bare minimum that could've been done.

Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!

Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
