LLYC has been on my bucket list of SF restaurants to try

4/5 by 👻 @Elaine W. on 09/08/2025

LLYC has been on my bucket list of SF restaurants to try for years and we finally got to go! Our party of four opted for the chefs menu where the kitchen decides what dishes you will have. It's a great option if you don't know what to order and want to make sure you order the right amount of food - we were quite full. Otherwise if you have specific dishes you want to try I would opt to order a la carte. Drinks were good, I had a mezcal drink and it was quite strong but in a good, punchy way. The ginger turmeric cocktail is also really good. Try the grapefruit spritz if you want a NA option. Here is everything we ate: Tuna poke on nori cracker (5/5): what's not to like? Excellent balance with the shredded shiso and rich soy dressing and the cracker added the perfect crunch. Taro puff (5/5): my favorite dish of the evening. It was SO light and delicate, this is a hard dish to make. Instead of traditional meat filling there was a dollop of guava filling which was so unique, unexpected and delightful. Highly recommend. Duck liver mousse (4/5): the richness of the duck was good juxtaposed with the strawberry but I think the strawberry needed some acidity or something to cut the mousse a bit. The toast also could have been more crunchy, not enough texture contrast. Heirloom tomato (4/5): the toasted quinoa with the avocado puree was really good. If you're ordering a la carte I would skip this unless you don't normally have access to good tomatoes. Pig head croquette (5/5): this was delicious. The meat was so flavorful with good texture, fried to perfection. The melon added great contrast, as did the bits of chili on top. Halibut kinilaw (3.5/5): the rest of my party really liked this. The fish was extremely fresh and I liked that they used the coconut milk to cut through the sharp acidity of the dish but the flavors were just ok to me. Gulf shrimp (3.5/5): I really loved the crispy rice, and the pork stuffed into the shrimp was a unique addition. I felt this could have used a brightening ingredient as well. Daikon cake (3/5): skip. This is just dim sum radish cake with some sauce, nothing special. Pork shoulder chop (4/5): the pork was cooked to juicy perfection. The dressing and everything else was ok. Swordfish katsu (5/5): I was very pleasantly surprised with this. Swordfish can be notoriously hard to cook with it going dry very easily but the texture and softness was just perfect. The corn curry was excellent and the curry taste did not overpower the taste of the fish. Very impressive. Furikake cookies (4/5): nice texture from the cookie with a hearty savory flavor from the furikake. Milk tea panna cotta (2.5/5): my least favorite. There was a bit too much going on texture and flavor wise. Baked hawaii (4/5): this is their signature dessert - a cookie? With a big scoop of pog sorbert covered in torched meringue. It was quite good but I guess I am not a huge fan of this specific type of dessert. Overall this a great place to come for a special occasion, and I would definitely encourage coming with at least four people so you can try everything. I think the flavors are well done, and I am glad to have tried it! All the servers were very attentive and informative.

had this for the first time last night and i must say - we were BLOWN AWAY! we will definitely be coming back to try the let the kitchen cook for you option. we shared the tuna poke, fried rice, gulf shrimp, swordfish katsu, and wagyu. we also got the baked hawaii for dessert. the tuna poke was the best bite of tuna i've had outside of hawaii! and the shrimp with the longanisa was a delicious bite. everything was enjoyable, and the service was friendly and timely.

Review specifically for the Gen-Gen Private Room

5/5 by 👻 @Amy R. on 08/25/2025

Review specifically for the Gen-Gen Private Room experience: Perfect birthday party! Exceeded expectations. I was looking for a private space for 10-14 people, reserved 2 months in advance for a Saturday night. Clear communication from the venue, so we knew exactly what we were getting in terms of timing and service. What I didn't expect was the space to be so private and fun. It's in the basement (with windows), so it was quiet except for our own noise, and it has a private bar with personal bartender provided. Festive from the moment guests walked in! It's a fixed menu in the Gen-Gen. Everyone got one a serving of the 7 appetizers, and their choice of entree. Hard to pick a favorite among appetizers: the furikake potato chips and dip with trout roe were unexpectedly fantastic; taro puff was a highly elevated low-brow concept; snap peas were top quality. Entrees: swordfish katsu is delicious but the meat is vague--could've been pork, chicken, or even tofu. Ling cod was the bomb. Wagyu zabuton was a few slices of heaven. Dessert was served as three small items for each person. Highlight was the Butter Mochi slice. Highly recommend this private group dining experience. For San Francisco, an excellent value for what you get.

My partner and I wanted to eat at Liholiho for quite awhile

5/5 by 👻 @Jeff M. on 08/24/2025

My partner and I wanted to eat at Liholiho for quite awhile now (since 2021); but we were always last minute planners so never got around to finding a reservation that worked for us when I lived in San Francisco. Imagine how happy we were when we saw that there was a table available for Saturday night when we were visiting friends in the city. I am guessing that there must have been a last minute cancellation because the restaurant was completely full. We brought our 7 month baby, so the front of house put us in a table that had a corner seat. That worked out really well because it allowed both of us to attend to our son while enjoying dinner. As for the food: the calamari was my favorite by far! The meat was tender while the exterior had a nice crisp that was refreshing and not overly fatty. Would definitely order this dish again. The cumin lamb was also very tasty. I'm not sure how it was marinated, but you could definitely taste the cumin flavor in each rib. I was just a bit sad that there were two ribs in the entree; though the restaurant also includes a tasty sausage. I read a lot of reviews about the swordfish katsu, so was excited to try this dish out. I thought it was good and enjoyed it, but probably would not order again. It reminded me of a McDonald's filet-o-fish, but fancy (again, not saying it was bad - I enjoy eating a filet-o-fish). Definitely would love to come back and try out other dishes.

We had a sub-par experience here with both the staff and the food. April (I'm guessing one of the owners) reached out to me offering an apology and a small gift card (which barely covered 1/4th our meal). I was considering giving this place another shot even though theirs was a very cursory response, but when it came time for me to retry the place it turns out they voided the gift card We wanted to like it but this place is a joke unfortunately. Avoid completely, go somewhere where you'll get your money's worth.

Ordering can be done a la carte or using the chefs

4/5 by 👻 @Calista C. on 08/22/2025

Ordering can be done a la carte or using the chefs recommendations for $85 a person! Highly recommend this if you are not sure what to order for the table as you get a variety of appetizers, mains, and desserts. You also have a chance to get courses not on the a la carte menu. You will get 1 serving of each app for each person! For 5 people, we received 7 apps and small plates, 4 mains, and 3 desserts. The best bites for us were the taro passionfruit puff, duck liver, steak, pork, and sesame cookies. The server also did a great job recommending drinks for each of us! Drinks are quite strong, but don't taste it! The bathroom line was very long... taking almost 15 minutes. The resturant is super dark and unfortunately very loud, you have to yell at your table to have a conversation. The open kitchen concept is beautiful though! Highly recommend!

Upping my rating after coming back for my birthday with a

5/5 by 👻 @Seems U. on 08/21/2025

Upping my rating after coming back for my birthday with a group of 6. We got a bunch of stuff to share and it was all good. I do think the menu is a bit hit or miss but the highlights are very good and service was great. The group was a bit less adventerous which eliminated some of the menu items (duck liver mousse which I loved the first time, the beef tongue, and a few other things). We had someone who didn't eat pork but was not too particular so they offered to make the Fried Rice with the spam on the side which I thought was nice. I would come back for the green curry with fish and crab alone (sadly not on the menu now but there is red curry) and the veggies were delicious. It is a relatively small space and so it does get a bit loud, especially on the weekends so be aware of that. I think we all enjoyed the atmosphere though. They brought out some nice cake with a sparkler and the other dessert (some kind of fruit galette) was also tasty. I think the 2 experiences were pretty different - the first time we were pretty open to eating anything and got the tasting menu. This bigger group had a bunch of preferences and a few restrictions but Liholiho did a good job with both. It's one of my favorite spots in SF and the only thing that prevents me from coming back more is I generally prefer a slightly less crowded/spacious place. Regardless, I'm rounding my 4ish stars up.

The whole cauliflower was too bland. We also weren't given the right utensils to be able to cut it; had to wait and finally get the attention of a very busy staff to be able to eat. Other food was good but given the pricing, it wasn't nearly good enough to want to go back. :( But others have had much better experiences.

5/5 by 👻 @Jocelyn L. on 07/18/2024

So many people have raved about this spot and after being on my bookmarked list for so long, I wish I came here sooner! an absolute must-go for locals and visitors. The interior was modern with bold patterns and warm lighting, creating a lively atmosphere for diners. They combine hawaiian flavors into their dishes, and all their food is served family style. everything we ordered here was amazing. Super friendly staff -- they were very helpful in explaining the popular plates and recommending food that best fit our tastebuds. - tuna poke: this was my favorite appetizer -- I loved the nori cracker and the tuna was delicious. the spicy aioli was so good - poppyseed steam bun: the beef tongue was very tender, kimchi was really nicely fermented while cucumbers added crunch. the poppyseeds made it a little messy to eat though - soft shell crab ukoy: I wasn't expecting this to be fried, but still very good. crispy and flavorful, with the tanginess of the ranch. The crab flavor wasn't as prominent as I expected though - pork shoulder chop: pork slices were very soft. I really liked how I could taste the savoriness of the beans and the sweetness of the blueberries. The polenta was the most interesting part -- dairy forward and almost a bit minty? Its texture reminded me of scrambled eggs - baked hawaii: most popular dessert on their menu and this lived up to the hype. the chiffon cake was fluffy and warm, almost marshmallow like on top but the gelato still ice cold inside. The mandarine slices on the side added a sour contrast, and crispy coconut chips provided a crunch We also ordered cocktails, which were refreshing and paired so well with our meal. Will be reminiscing about this everyday until I go back -- highly highly recommend!

3/5 by 👻 @Katherine H. on 07/17/2024

I'm glad we finally had the opportunity to try out their food! For many years (prepandemic) it was difficult to get reservations but we were surprised to check the night before and score some seats! They're super strict about being on time, and will send you essays about the importance of being timely, some reminder texts the day of, and some lecturing in their actual reservation page. Interesting way of driving that standard home. We took the cue and arrived 10 minutes early in fear of disappointing someone. The restaurant is spacious and clean. It's a bit weird that we walked by so many of their staff and were not greeted with at least a quiet hello or nod. They all just kind of stood around and chatted with each other. Glad they are staffed well though! Now onto the food! I think the let us feed you tasting menu experience is perfect for 2 people. You get to try all of the popular dishes in one go and decide whether you want to come back again. The food was served in relatively large portions and they were all tasty. I'm docking off a couple stars because of the awkward service when presenting the dishes as the food runners sometimes would describe the dish haphazardly and walk away mid sentence. That was weird until it happened two dishes in a row. The second star was for all the damn fees. The automatic 20% service charge with the additional SF mandate is just a little over the top for a casual restaurant. Our server was awesome; she was super professional and friendly. I would have no doubt tipped her 20% , but forcing that service charge down my throat was off putting. Starting July 1st, restaurants are supposed to display that automatic charge clearly on their menu. Is 10 pt font on the bottom of the page count? Lastly, just serve real spam on your menu! It's the true Ono way! The house made spam is not spam, doesn't taste like spam, the texture is off, it tastes like a marinated sausage patty, and the bones!! We bit into pieces of ground up pork bones and nearly cracked our tooth! Eating spam should be a happy moment with your senses with that surge of tasty MSG. No bones are allowed. The dessert was at least solid to end the meal.

Overall a really mixed bag of an experience.

3/5 by 👻 @Claude K. on 07/05/2024

Food tasted like an imitation of fine dining (interesting dishes that are just interesting and are not fully developed). We got the "let us cook for you" menu, which was their version of a tasting menu. There were definitely really incredible food here (duck mousse with banana bread, baked Hawaii), but the quality was really all over the place. The tuna poke was mediocre, the shrimp was just a tad bit overcooked (the rice in the shrimp dish was amazing), the swordfish katsu was really dry from overcooking and had no salt, the homemade spam on furikake rice was... just that, the noodles were a bad imitation of cantonese chow mein. Also, for a tasting menu, they re-used a lot of their sauces, so a few dishes (served close together) tasted very similar. The level of service and decor suggested something high end, but most of the servers seemed really apathetic and unfriendly. I love eating at casual mom and pop Chinese places, so I'm not a stickler for service, but it was just super strange that they do some things super well (wiping the table between dishes, changing out the utensils/plates, folding napkin) and some things not as well (turning away before they finished introducing the food, etc.). The staff that interacted with us the most were amazing (our server + hostess). Drinks were great.

Liholiho Yacht Club is an incredible establishment in SF and a classic must go to spot. Recommended to do shareable dishes. The ambiance is quite casual and really takes you to the islands to enjoy a drink and food. I highly recommend their kimchi fried rice, swordfish, and spring pea salad. The menu changes quite often so you're always in for a treat. My one ding was that service was slower than expected but in part due to a large crowd. Food: 9/10 Service 8/10 Price: $$-$$$

4/5 by 👻 @James R. on 06/30/2024

Came here with my partner and another couple (who love this place and have come multiple times). Pretty excited to come here as this place used to be pretty difficult to get a reservation on the past. We looked at the menu and we all decided to do the tasting menu. This included the tuna tartar, the chicken liver mousse, the katsu swordfish, the gulf shrimp with forbidden rice, the ribeye, turmeric rice noodle, as well as some off menu items like their famous house made spam with rice, a cucumber salad, a crudo with cumquats, and an extra small bite at the beginning (it's eluding me what that small bite was). I'd say there were some highs and lows of the dinner, but everything was at least decent. The spam was underseasoned and with the underseasoned rice it was just ok. The 3rd small bite was underwhelming. The numeric noodles were also just ok. While I liked the katsu swordfish, half of my party felt it was too dry and not successful. The real winners of the night were the chicken liver mouse bite and the gulf shrimp, as well as the cucumber salad and the crudo with cumquats. For dessert we had the baked Hawaii and the galette. Both desserts were decent. The service started off very nice but definitely dipped after a bit. We wanted more drinks but no one was checking on us, even when they were dropping off the food. It was like once they knew we were doing the tasting menu they went into full autopilot. I will say that the tasting menu is an amazing value, not just for SF but for almost anywhere in CA. Given the value it does make up for Some of the food and service shortcomings. Our friends who had been before said that this was not as good of an experience as they've had in the past so maybe this was an off night. I would come back, but I'd probably do it differently based on this initial experience.

4/5 by 👻 @Angel H. on 06/26/2024

This place had a great vibe! The interior design was modern and beautiful, perfect for a night out with friends. Unfortunately, the food wasn't quite as impressive. The service, however, was phenomenal. Our server was incredibly friendly and enthusiastic, offering fantastic recommendations for both food and drinks. Overall I'd gave a 3 star on food and 5 stars for the service! The food itself was average, with a few misses. Here's a breakdown: - Tuna Poke (3/5): The seaweed was a bit tough and not crispy as expected. - Duck Liver (3/5): The strawberry topping was a nice touch, but I've had better. It needed a bolder flavor profile. - Steamed Bun (3/5): The kimchi added a nice touch, but overall the dish wasn't very memorable. - Ocean Trout Sashimi (4/5): This was definitely a highlight - flavorful and fresh. - Gulf Shrimp (5/5): The star of the show! Huge, juicy shrimp with a delicious sauce that complemented the crispy rice perfectly. - Soft Shell Crab Ukoy (3/5): Just your standard fried soft shell crab - nothing special. - Grilled Summer Squash (4/5): A great choice for a lighter dish - flavorful and refreshing. Dessert & Drinks: Baked Hawaii (5/5): his is a must-try! The dreamy marshmallow topping on the sorbet is the perfect balance of sweet and light. Marshmallow Tea (3/5): Unfortunately, the marshmallow tea was a bit bland. Everything Nice(4/5): This fruity and refreshing drink hits the spot but 3/5 of the drink is filled with ice. While I probably wouldn't return for the food, the cute atmosphere and excellent service make it a great place for drinks and hanging out with friends.

I arrived an hour early for my reservation and was invited to grab a drink at the bar. When my party arrived, we sat in a booth with full view of the kitchen where the head chef/owner was directing and plating, always with a huge smile. We elected for the chef's tasting menu and we were blown away by the breadth of flavors and the execution of the dishes. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive; our water was topped off, plates were cleared, and each plate came with a detailed description. The highlights were the poke, pork, lamb, and the baked Hawaii. I loved this place and will be back soon!

We had an amazing time at Liholiho! Been meaning to come here for a while and finally made a reservation for Saturday dinner. Would definitely recommend planning ahead to make a res as it gets quite busy after it opens and we've often seen people wait to walk in right when they open at 5pm. We started with drinks with the spring sling and sunbather. The cocktails were bright and light - the perfect way to start a meal. For food, we ordered a beef tongue bao each, trout sashimi, turmeric rice noodle, swordfish katsu, and gulf shrimp with crispy rice to share between 3 people and it was just the right amount of food. The highlight of the night was definitely the swordfish katsu which was perfectly fried and crispy but light and moist inside still. Swordfish isn't a protein I'd normally order but this was truly delicious and I loved the sauce served with the katsu. Would definitely order this along with the shrimp with crispy black rice and kombu-cured trout sashimi again. We were too full for dessert but wish we ordered the baked alaska as well. We'll have to come back for their $85 tasting menu next time!

5/5 by 👻 @James G. on 03/15/2024

Liholiho is a restaurant that holds a special place in our hearts, as it brought back fond memories of our trip to Kaua'i during the COVID-19 pandemic. We had wanted to try this place for over five years, and the moment we stepped inside, we were amazed by its beauty and open concept. The open kitchen was mesmerizing as the skilled chefs prepared each dish precisely and carefully. The service we received at Liholiho was also wonderful. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and attended to our needs throughout the evening. What impressed us the most was when they remembered that it was our second anniversary, and they went above and beyond to make us feel special, adding a personal touch to our dining experience. Now, let's talk about the food. The menu at Liholiho is a delightful fusion of flavors and textures; each dish we tried was a culinary masterpiece. The beef tongue poppyseed bao buns were a revelation, and the braised pig head salad was a surprising and bold choice that exceeded our expectations. This dish showcased the chef's creativity and expertise. The kimchi spam fried rice, made in-house, was another highlight. However, the star of the show was undoubtedly the katsu swordfish. This was a dish unlike anything we had ever tasted before. The swordfish was expertly breaded and fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy exterior and a tender, juicy interior. To top off the evening, we indulged in the baked Hawaii dessert. It was a delightful and satisfying end to an already fantastic meal. TL;DR: Our experience at Liholiho was nothing short of exceptional. The restaurant's beautiful and open concept, combined with the attentive service and incredible food, made it a true culinary gem. It's a place that reminded us of our trip to Kaua'i and created new and unforgettable memories. We highly recommend Liholiho to anyone seeking a remarkable dining experience.

The last time we dined here was in 2018 and we are so excited to visit again after 6 years. We ordered two appetizers, two entrees and one dessert, which turn out to be a bit too much. The dish impresses us the most is Ukoy, a Filipino style "tempura". It's crispy and freshly fried with interesting seasoning that we never had before. The fried game hen is the second best and it's like extra crunchy fried chicken with unique seasons, and the best part is the corn bread to me because of its crispy buttery skin. The rest of the meals are good but not too amazing. The service definitely deserves star. The waiters are very friendly and they make you feel you are dining in star restaurant.

We visited last night. Liholiho has a fabulous vibe & everyone was just lovely. The food is out of this world. Just vibrant & interesting & novel & utterly delicious. We had two fish dishes to share - the cod & the swordfish & both were so fresh & the accompanying elements made each dish unique. We didn’t order appetisers as we wanted to leave room for dessert but we shared the chips & kimchi dip which again were just delicious and unique. Desserts were sublime & beautifully presented. Would highly recommend booking a table here for whenever you can - they were rightly busy all night. Special shout out to Alejandro who looked after us so wonderfully and made the whole experience even better. We will definitely be back next time we visit S.F.

Consistent.

execution. every. single. time. Recently I came to LihoLiho for the fourth time (first time in 2015), and my appreciation and love for LihoLiho has only grown! Execution is consistent, everything I've tried is delicious, unique, interesting, beautiful, and fun. I would always get the baked hawaii for dessert It is a bit expensive and everything adds up, there is a 6% SF mandate added to your deck Service was superb as usual and super fun vibe For this most recent visit, we opted for the tasting menu which was $85 for 11 bites / items per person. It featured 6 things currently on the menu and 5 things on previous menus - we thought, why not? don't need to make any decisions.... Our favorites were: - duck liver mousse - tuna poke - ukoy (purple sweet potato, trumpet mushroom, sweet onion, old bay, shiso ranch) - swordfish katsu - baked hawaii (of course!) I thought the drinks were okay, they were fine, not impressive, but maybe I just didn't order the right drinks Overall, can't wait to be back again!

The best meal I've had in SF in a year.

5/5 by 👻 @Celie H. on 03/02/2024

Absolutely extraordinary food. LihoLiho got her groove back. We'd been back a couple times since they reopened, but this latest iteration of the menu (Fried game hen with brown butter cornbread, anyone?) has reinstated LYCSF as one of our top 3 spots in the city. Let's start with the drinks. Cocktails are unique and refreshing; I loved the herbaceous Spring Sling. They've got some great local craft beers that made my partner happy, like Tiny Dankster. And finally, the wines will invite you to try something new and we haven't met a glass we didn't like (mmmm Gamay). Getting into apps, do not skip the Tuna Poke and the Duck Liver Moose. I don't care if you're not a Duck Liver Moose person (I'm not); Get this one anyway. It comes on a fresh, warm pumpkin bread with pickled celery with pink peppercorn and it unlocked a new realm in my soul. Next up the turmeric rice noodle is unmissable, served with maitakes and a little seaweed that brings a delicious, flavorful, fresh crunch. But the brightest stars of the night for our table were the mains: the Buttermilk Fried Game Hen and the Grass Fed Ribeye. Beautiful, perfectly composed bites of food that you will never forget. There was not a single thing on the plate with the game hen that wasn't delicious: the pickled veg, hot sauce, brown butter cornbread, and of course the game hen itself. The brine on this little bb makes it the most perfectly seasoned borb I've met on the West Coast. When you get the ribeye, be sure to compose each bite with everything they bring you. The flavors have been so carefully quilted together to form a complete picture, from the horseradish to the hot mustard. Sadly, we were out of room for dessert, but we'll be back as soon as possible to enjoy this feast again. Oh, and on top of everything, the service here is just fantastic and the ambiance is relaxed yet elevated. LihoLiho is absolute gem. Don't miss it.

5/5 by 👻 @porter_osborne on 08/17/2023

My wife and I visited Liholiho after a LONG workday. I was pleased to find an available reservation without booking a week or more in advance. We arrived early and our table was ready. The staff was pleasant, attentive, but not intrusive. We shared one appetizer, one entre, and one dessert. Everything was superb. Do NOT MISS the Backed Hawaii. It was even better than the Swordfish, which I highly recommend. The bill was a tad more than we would have liked ($90+), but we were very pleased with the overall experience. Give 'em a try. Also, if you plan to stroll there look at the topography. The restaurant is definitely UPHILL from mission street, Union square, Yerba Buena, and the Embarcadero. Walking through many places in SF is kind of dicey these days. So a quick uber/lyft/ or taxi is probably best. We got a ride for ~$10 each way.

Very good, but no game hen, thank you

3/5 by 👻 @paulguil on 06/28/2023

The game hen was not properly cooked, I should have sent it back, parts of it were still raw. Yeck! No wonder my stomach was in such a state last night. Otherwise, the swordfish main was great. But will all the mains, they are made for two! I would go for the appies, then share one main if you have a partner. But avoid the game hen. And yes, my bad for not saying anything. And no, there is no view of the water from this very "modern" eatery.

In one word "WOW!" I admit I was not excited about having to set a reminder to make a reservation for this place but I am so glad I did! From the vibe and customer service when we walked in to the dessert at the end, everything was amazing! I couldn't understand why I received so many reminders to be on time but I get it, this place is bumping and they have no time for stragglers!I can't wait to go back to try more. Here was what we enjoyed on our first trip:1) Gulf Shrimp- juicy and flavorful2) Fried Rice- yum!3) Fried Game Hen- I love that this was not greasy, but instead moist (yeah, I used that word) and tender. The broccoli I had a zesty vinaigrette flavor that I also enjoyed.4) Swordfish. Never had it before and I need more in my life. The sauce was excellent and the fish was delish.5) baked Hawaiian. You just need to try it to understand how awesome it isWe also had a couple of the tropical drinks and they did not disappoint. The prices were reasonable and the customer service was phenomenal. This place lives up to the hype- get online and make that resy!!!

Ambiance: super cute restaurant- brings me straight back to Hawaii. Super friendly staff - definitely make a res as walk-ins are for the bar only and its CROWDED. Great for group outing w/ friends or date night. Everything is shareable (kind of like tapas but hawaiian style) Beef Tongue Poppyseed Bun [5/5]: WOW. I loveeeed this. The beef tongue is soo tender and succulent - loved the tanginess of the pickled cucumbers. Bao is soft and airy and the sesame seeds added a nice crunch and frangrance. Yummy and totally recommend!!! Fried oyster [4/5]: was good and yummy, i still prefer raw oysters :) Fried rice [5/5]: so so soooo yummy. Probably one of the best kimchi fried rice I've had. The cured egg yolk made everything super creamy without making the rice soggy - loved the fragrant mushrooms. 10/10 recommend. Gulf shrimp [4/5]: shrimp were super fresh and had a nice bite - thought the dish was kind of salty though. Loved the stuffing they used. The crispy rice was yummy in small amounts but it was like.. TOO crispy hahah my jaw was tired after eating them Swordfish Katsu [5/5]: I've never seen swordfish katsu before so this was a must try for us. Super crispy - swordfish was tender and juicy. Loved the slight tartness of the russian dressing. Banana cream tart [5/5]: lovvvvveeed this. Creamy, light, not sure sweet. Really enjoyed that sweet and bitter caramel rum with the crunch sesame crackers on top. Tart itself had structure but also just the right crumbliness haha.

We had not been to Lihiliho since 2019 (pre pandemic) and it was so nice to be back. This restaurant is overall our favorite in SF. Always creative delicious food, always great service and a busy but friendly vibe.We were going to a concert at the Golden Gate Theater so we grabbed an early reservation. Menu has something for everyone.Started and shared the Gulf shrimp stuffed with Longanisa. Came with crispy rice and golden raisin vin. Delicious start. I also had the small bite of Duck Liver Mousse on banana bread with pink peppercorn and celery. Another yum!Entrees kept up the pace. Pork shoulder chop with Apple chutney, pistachios, chicory and mustard seed jus was so good with rich layered flavors. Also had the Fried Game Hen which we have had before and it never fails to impress. Crispy hen that is quartered and comes with cashews, broccolini, pineapple and black vinegar honey glaze. Awesome as always.Finished with the Baked Hawaii, orange chiffon cake with coconut POG sorbet. Nice ending to a delicious. Liholiho has a nice well thought out wine list, I had a glass of Jolie Laide Trousseau Gris and DW had a cocktail.Service as mentioned earlier is friendly, helpful and efficient. Wonderful dinner, can't wait to return!

3/5 by 👻 @Rohan K. on 03/16/2023

Went here for dinner this evening with some of my colleagues. ** **The Great**1. Rendang Curry - This was easily the best thing we had this evening. It isn't even close to traditional rendang, but it's a really flavorful lamb curry with a nice quirky presentation. Strongly recommended. 2. Red Endive - An outstanding salad to share packed with flavor and texture, fresh ingredients and just hit the spot perfectly. 3. Ukoy - Reminiscent of a fancy pakora but very crispy and super delicious. The old bay seasoning pairs nicely with their ranch**The Good**1. Poppyseed Steamed Bun - It was not bad but kind of plain jane and one dimensional. Nothing really stood out and popped. 2. Fried Game Hen - The batter was perfectly crispy and crunchy and the hen was beautifully cooked to perfection. The broccolini was perfect. The honey sauce however was too sweet and the black vinegar did little to balance it out. Also, the random cashews thrown onto the plate added nothing to the dish and in fact were hard to eat as were the thin slices of pineapple that felt out of place. 3. Gulf Shrimp - The crispy rice was the star of the show here and everyone loved it and fought over it. The shrimp were just standard shrimp, nothing to write home about. 4. Desserts - The Baked Hawaii and the Banana Cream Tart were both pretty good, but again, nothing spectacular. The slivers of orange on the place were kind of meaningless and would have been so much better as a fresh zingy sauce to pair with the rich desserts instead of a side on the plate. **The Mehhh**1. Petrale Sole - It just had no flavor. The fish was cooked perfectly but lacked seasoning and none of the ginger sesame flavors came through. Definitely pass on this. 2. Charred Savoy Cabbage - There was nothing charred about it. It was cabbage with a very funky cheese dressing that tasted a lot more like gorgonzola than aged gouda. Nothing else came through. Hard pass. 3. Kimchi Fried Rice - This was easily the worst dish of the evening. There was nothing kimchi or fried about the rice. The kimchi was mild with no flavor, the rice was barely tossed around in it with no wokhay and the spam was, well it was spam. I cook and eat this dish very very often; this is not even close to what it's true potential is. Overall the food had a few hits but a fair number of misses, the prices are quite steep but somehow customers have been convinced that the bustling cafeteria ambiance with people crammed onto benches and served on bulk bought plates is now upscale and chic just because reservations are hard to get. And then they added a 20% tip but called it an "equitable compensation fee" which apparently is supposed to make us feel okay about it; kudos to the marketing team for coming up with that BS. p.s. Shoutout to the wait staff. You guys did an outstanding job and the service was a definitely 10/10.

first time to liho liho! i was inspired to come here after going to their sister restaurant good good culture club it was a bit hard to get a reservation - you have to reserve online at 10pm two weeks before the date you want to dine (only option when i checked was a 5pm table, which was fine with me) the service was great! the staff took the time to explain certain dishes when they were brought to the table poppyseed steam bun: amazing! i didn't know they could coat steam buns with poppyseeds. the kimchi-miso mayo and cucumbers and spam all balanced each other out perfectly ukoy: basically fried mushrooms and sweet potatoes. it was a good healthy-but-not-healthy option petrale sole: bone broth tastes so good! the shrimp crust was not crunch as i had expected, it kind of has the same texture as fish has baked hawaii: SO good. POG sorbet was amazing!!

5 for me, but I'm rounding up because the service was excellent! There were no reservations, but hubby and I were lucky to be seated at the bar right away. Ambiance - Chic and warm, lots of wood tones and good music playing in the background.Food was okay, some dishes were definitely better than others. Fried oyster (2.5/5) - like eating an oyster lettuce wrap, okay, but nothing exciting.Harime (Hawaiian ceviche) (5/5) - absolutely delicious! Light and refreshing, and I could have eaten 10 more bowls of the taro chips by themselves.Fried Rice (3/5) - good but typical. Didn't stand out, even with the homemade spam. I think the kimchi was overpowering, too.Ribeye (2.5/5) - Really shouldn't order steak anywhere but a steakhouse, but we took a chance and were disappointed. Flavors were good, but meat was very fatty and came out luke warm. Wouldn't order again.Banana Tart (3/5) Good but not great, the shortbread crust was really tough to cut through. Wish we would have gotten the baked Hawaii.Overall, it's not a bad spot, but nothing about the food would make us want to come back.
