Note: Menu on website doesn't appear to work so here's a direct PDF littlealley.nyc/_files/u… . Prices are gathered from there also. I was here with one my usual groups where we shared a lot of food. The food quality ranged from very good to pretty bad and I would say that the majority of the dishes were a tad sweet even compared to most Shanghainese spots I've been to. The service was alright. I got the White Windmill with Baiju, Tito's vodka, wang wang milk, fresh lime juice, and vanilla syrup. They originally gave me just the wang wang milk but replaced it soon enough. The drink was very sweet (the vanilla syrup is very likely not necessary) and even after being replaced with the proper drink was surprisingly didn't taste much like alcohol (even with the baiju.) I think it was $19 or $20 and it wasn't worth it.From the appetizer section, the Shanghai Crispy Eel/无锡脆鳝 ($16) had said eel with sesame oil, vinegar, and ginger. The sauce reminded me of another Wuxi dish we ordered and the eel was small but nicely fried with a good crispness. It was in short similar to the nearby Café China. The Honey Kao Fu/烤麩 ($12) with braised gluten wheat, peanut, wood ear, and bamboo shoot was very solid. I have had kaofu/wheat gluten from other Shanghainese spots and this place in particular had some good tenderness and it wasn't overly sweet compared to some other places. Would recommend heavily. The Braised Wuxi Ribs/無錫排骨 ($22) with baby ribs and romaine stem was also pretty good with a similar sauce to the eel. The portion size could have been better but the park was tender and well flavored and I likely would recommend it. Also from the pork section was the Rice Cake & Capsella Flower/荠菜炒年糕 ($14) with sesame oil. The portion size of this dish was good for the price but I found the textures of the rice cakes to be bit off. There's supposed to be a slight crispiness. The flavor was alright with some slightly chewy pork and said green and I would say it was only worth it because of it's relatively cheaper price compared to most other dishes. The Pork Belly in Hot Sauce/回鍋肉 ($20) with garlic, hot sauce, peppercorn, and sesame oil was essentially their take on double cooked pork. It had slight spiciness from the chili oil and the pork was pretty tender. Overall it was alright. Finally the Dong Po Pork/东坡肉 ($24) or braised pork belly with bok choy, scallion, sweet sauce, sesame oil, and buns also had very tender pork belly but was much sweeter than other versions of this dish I've had. The Stir-Fried Cumin Lamb/孜然羊肉 ($26) with green and red pepper, onion, cumin, and chili powder was alright. The lamb could have been a bit more tender and the portion size could have been a bit bigger for the price. The Crispy Duck/香酥鸭 ($32) with fried onion, salt, and pepper was by far the worst dish and also the most overpriced. The small pieces of duck were very dry and the duck was boney and neither of our tables finished it. The Salted Duck Egg Fish Filet/咸蛋黄鱼片 ($24) was one of the better dishes. The salted duck egg added a good texture and the fish was tender and succulent. Less successful of the fish dishes was the Fish Blossom/松子全鱼 ($36) with sea bass, shrimp, pine nut, green and red pea, sweet and sour sauce, and crispy rice was probably our other least favorite dish. It was cloyingly sweet even compared to other versions I've had and the fish was over-fried with an unappetizing texture. This is a pricey alright Shanghainese spot. The prices are more similar to CheLi but I would say the food quality isn't as good mostly because of consistency. If the weaker dishes were as good as the rest, I would give this place quite a high rating even if the cocktail wasn't good. Perhaps they should reduce their menu and concentrate on making the dishes more flavorful and consistent?
