Little Italy St Andrews Reviews from The Last Year
Overpriced
I’ve visited this restaurant three times now and haven’t been overly impressed any time. The menu is really expensive and the food just isn’t worth it. Two of our four mains were massively over-salted (one to the point of being very unpleasant), as was the pesto that came with the bread and olives for the table. Staff were pushy about getting a drinks order from us and repeatedly came to the table, seeming confused as to why we weren’t ordering alcoholic drinks. They then dragged their heels about taking the food order. The space feels cramped and noisy and the tables for four are far too small by the time plates and any sides are set down. The music is loud and the staff don’t seem to be interested in delivering good service. Overall it feels like this is a restaurant that is milking its position in the heart of St Andrews and taking advantage of the hordes of visitors going past while serving up mediocre and overpriced food. I don’t think I’ll return for a fourth visit.
Gorgeous food and staff
Amazing staff josh is the best member of staff Amazing he needs a rise Gorgeous food definitely come again Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Nice break from traditional Scottish pub food
The food in the atmosphere were fantastic. I am not a fan of traditional Scottish pub food. The Italian cuisine is this restaurant was suburb.
Excellent experience
Fabulous experience. This is a great, family owned and run business. We saw new staff shadowing the experienced, excellent staff - lovely to see. Eating experience was first class. Delicious pesto and olive nibbles, fabulous gamberoni and delicious lamb shank slow cooked and shredded in pasta. Great service and ambiance. Highly recommend
Fantastic Italian food
Enjoyed a fantastic meal at Little Italy last night. Booked our table the previous night as it is a very popular restaurant. Excellent service from all the staff and made to feel very welcome. Would highly recommend Little Italy to anyone looking to eat out in St Andrews when visiting. 5 ⭐️
One Visit is not Enough
By far one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve eaten in. Menu is extensive and food very good. The portions are enormous, starters and main courses alike. It’s normally very busy so booking is advisable. The staff are very friendly and Darius, the Manager is usually around ensuring everyone’s meal is 100% which it always is. One restaurant not to be missed when visiting St Andrews.
Do not miss this restaurant!!
If you are looking for something other than fried pub food look no further. However make reservations well in advance. Everything was amazing. The lasagna comes in a loaf size pan. The ravioli was delicious. Others had bolognese and chicken parmesan. Terrific wine selection. They allow you time to relax and enjoy your meal.
So good we went twice
I love Italian food and have tried many restaurants in the UK, some fantastic and some not so much, however, Little Italy is up there near the top. It’s lovely being greeted with a friendly face and attitude from the staff, before munching on your complimentary bread and sauces, choosing a drink from the extensive menu all while soaking in the great atmosphere. Sure there may be a few people around you talking about golf, but once you are tucking into your lovely food, you’ll soon forget all about that and imagine you are in the Italian version of St Andrews instead. Our chosen meal was ravioli and we loved it. The sauce was amazing, probably the best I’ve had in a restaurant and the garlic bread, it’s so tasty and cooked to perfection. Tbh we booked again in the same week just to make sure how good it was the first time wasn’t a fluke. It’s wasn’t. This place is perfect and is topped off by the limoncello shot at the end of the night.
Amazing Italian food in Scotland?
Absolutely amazing, made from scratch Italian food. I had the cannelloni and it was so delicious. My daughter is GF and enjoyed the pasta, as well. Who knew we would find fabulous Italian food in Scotland?
The food was exceptional; pizza was delicately delicious
The food was exceptional; pizza was delicately delicious and moist but thin. The lamb shank pasta dish was richly refreshing and a must eat item. The menus was pretty expansive and the wine selection very diverse. We will definitely go back, no questions about it.
Great restaurant outstanding food.
Great service. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Best Italian restaurant in St. Andrews.
Best Italian EVER!
First of all I don’t understand the bad reviews this restaurant has as I have been coming here for a number of years and it just keeps getting better and better. When you go to little Italy expect the finest of traditional Italian cuisine. On my last visit to little Italy with friends we had a fantastic night, starting with a browse of their extensive wine list which has a bottle for everyone( we opted for a bottle of Amarone) which they had plenty to choose from with over 10 different options for Amarone alone. We also had a bottle of Sicilian insolia while the amarone was left open to breath which was impeccable. We all had a 3 course meal and every course was faultless. I had started with the baked aubergine which was best I have ever had. My main course was the tagliatelle with lamb and I have to say how succulent and delicious this was. I had to finish this off with their home made tiramisu, “Mama Mia” comes to mind. My friends all opted for different dishes and they all looked fabulous. The service was fantastic from start to finish with knowledgeable and very very attentive staff. We finished the evening with coffees which were just like Italy and complimentary limoncello. For value for money this restaurant gives exactly that and we will definitely be back soon (hopefully we can explore more of that wine list) Thanks again team John smith.
Expensive, standard Italian
Very expensive for what was standard Italian fare. A glass of Montepulciano 175ml £14, disgraceful! Hubby and I shared some focaccia, didn’t have a starter, 2 main courses, 2 beers, 2 glasses of wine £97, not good value for money, these are tourist prices! We will not return.
Great experience
Had another amazing visit to our favourite restaurant in StAndrews. Staff amazing, food delicious. The addition of their new wine bar adds to the overall experience. Well done to all. If in the area make it your first choice.
Wonderful first dinner in St. Andrews.
Three of us had a lovely dinner here. Service was great, pasta and pizza was so good, dessert was perfect, and overall experience was great. Would come back again and would recommend.
Over priced average Italian
Been trying to go here for years, after recommendations and checking the reviews. I managed to get a table with the family and was looking forward to the authentic Italian experience....all I can say is do not bother!!! completely overpriced pizza and pasta. £15 for 2 small slices of bruschetta. Over £20 for each pasta dish which tasted the same as my local Italian at over double the price. Also do not expect a high end Italian restaurant to place the used cutlery back on the table after the starters. Save your money and go elsewhere in st Andrews load of good value and quality restaurants like forgans.
Buon Appetito!
Managed to get a booking for 5 people 'earlier' in evening (by visiting restaurant) when I was told over the phone that 8.30 was the earliest for a groups of 5. What size group usually uses the round table earlier in the evening? Welcome and staff excellent in this very busy restaurant, the "on the house" canopies were very welcome and much appreciated. The menu is extensive with most Italian dishes catered for, pity no risotto!!!! The portions are large and expensive, we are large eaters but a 3/4 portion, at a lower price would one ample, especially when you have a starter, (also large), maybe with smaller portions, desserts might be a temptation! For a future 'after 5pm' visit, the £5 charge to share a meal looks likely! 5 starters, 3 mains, 2 pizzas, bottle of house wine, 2 beers and a coke £230!
Overpriced
We have now been to Little Italy a couple of times now, once just before the pandemic and recently (6 weeks ago). The first time we went we both agreed the food was pricey but very good, the drinks were pricey. Our recent visit was an eye opener, the food prices had basically doubled. Again we could not fault the food it was very good, but extremely pricey. As for the drink, that was an absolute rip off, £14 for a glass of white wine and £5 for a small bottle of coke. We won't be back.
Great meal with family !
Enjoyed a lovely meal at little Italy this week upon our trip back for the Christmas holidays, atmosphere great and a warm welcoming. We have visited on a couple of occasions. The food was excellent!! The complementary bread given was authentic and a nice touch. A bit pricey but you can’t complain when the food is 100% worth it. Especially for that limoncello at the end. Service is welcoming and attentive however we did witness an altercation where a waiter shouted at our waitress for saying yes when I ordered a Diet Coke for my son…but I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone!! Perfect for a date night or a family meal. By far the best place we have eaten on our trip back to St Andrews! New bar is looking great by the way!
I received a phone call from Winslow the GM manager from
I received a phone call from Winslow the GM manager from Little Italy restaurant in Groveport Ohio. He was reaching out to tell me happy birthday on my special day and told me there was a surprise email waiting for me. I proceeded to tell him I appreciated the email, but due to our financial burden and struggles we have had lately was unable to possibly come in for my birthday, but I would definitely use it in the future. He then proceeded to invite me and any amount of guest to come in and he would pick up the bill and make sure that my birthday was one to remember we went to dinner my husband and I we had the best meal the best service he proceeded to come to our table several times to check on us I couldn't have been more grateful and more happy. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and I want to reach out and thank him for the beautiful birthday gift of our dinner and the wonderful service that we received Carla.
Lovely little Italian restaurant
We had a lovely meal in this very friendly, cosy restaurant. I had some concerns having read mixed reviews however our meal could not be faulted. The complimentary bread and olives along with a glass of limoncello with the bill were very nice touches. Our server was polite and attentive in fact all of the staff were very friendly. The food was excellent and no more expensive than most restaurants that we have visited recently. We will certainly go back.
Graduation dinner that didn’t disappoint!
In a very small town (St.Andrew’s) is a very good Italian restaurant! We each had pasta dishes with seafood and they were all delicious. The sauces whether cream or broth or wine based were all just right. The house salad was exceptionally good. In such a tourist town, I was expecting mediocre but it was quite the opposite. It was a delicious dinner with great service and a warm atmosphere. I’m from Chicago where we have a lot of Italian restaurants. This is one I’d go to again and again if I could.
