Lolita Boston Reviews from The Last Year

Came because I saw photos of the incredible decor and was happy that the food was also delicious! Got the Jamaica agua fresca and steak tacos- both incredible. Service was also wonderful!
This was my first time at the BackBay location of Lolita's
This was my first time at the BackBay location of Lolita's and I was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is very intimate and almost sensual, with dark lighting and themed decorations throughout. The service was relatively fast considering how busy this place can get. We ordered 3 dishes for the table: Pork Carnitas Nachitos, Lolita Rice Bowl, and Steak Sofrita Quesadilla. We all liked the nachos the best. The nachos were full of flavor and texture, with radish, jalapenos, the pork, beans, sauce, and more! The carnitas were also flavorful and not dry. The rice bowl was surprisingly delectable as well. I'm not big into bowls but the chipotle crema and the pickled onions really carried it. It doesn't come with any meat unless you add it on. The only thing was, the texture of the rice was a little hard to my liking. The quesadilla was our least favorite. It was extremely heavy and had even more cheese sprinkled on top. The extra cheese just made it too salty so I took it off before eating the rest. The meat itself was a little too chewy and big where it was hard to eat without the entire thing falling apart. As always, we ended off with Lolita's signature cotton candy which adds to the experience. It's a great, cost-friendly dessert too!
We had lunch here this past Sunday.
Great vibe, not super crowded so we sat at the bar. Our bartender was great, he made two outstanding margaritas and made recommendations for lunch. We started with the guacamole and queso. Let's be honest, quac and queso? Let me Tell you....these two apps were so freaking good we ordered another order of both. (It was probably the second margarita that helped inform that decision!). We essentially shared our taco dishes, Liz ordered the mahi tacos and I the beef. Both were excellent but the mahi tacos were Some of the best I've ever had. We had an order of rice and beans which were plain white rice and some black beans. Not great. Would highly recommend this spot despite the rice and beans.
I came alone for lunch.
I started with Fresco Guacamole and chips. A beautiful presentation and delicious. I usually prefer table side , but this was obviously fresh made , I did not order every course at once to be able to decide if I wanted more, and the server did not press to do otherwise. Next I had ceviche crunch tacos as an appetizer. The flavors were fresh and spicy. I ordered the spicy yucca tacos , this came with rice and beans and street corn on the co. I ended my meal with coco trio, a key lime sorbet with toasted coconut topped with meringue, the perfect light ending! Presentation of every part of the meal was perfect. I highly recommend Lolita
Love Lolita and have been here on multiple occasions.
Fantastic ambiance. Delicious food and drinks. Great service.
A nice little non-chain.
I had carne asada and my wife had the tortilla soup. We both liked our meals. We are from CO and found it hard to find Mexican food here, this was good!
Amazing !!!!! Tasty food and amazing drinks.
It was fun and was able to hang out. The drinks were so good!!!!

It's my favorite place in the city both locations (Newbury street and Seaport). The food is great!!!
The restaurant was awesome.
The ambiance was beautiful, the food was fantastic and the customer service was great! I also loved the welcome icy drink...and the cotton candy complimentary dessert. it was a great experience. I will return!!

This place is very trendy so you must have a reservation on busy nights. The atmosphere is interesting, it's very dark inside and I'm not old but it was a little difficult to read the menu with that kind of lighting. The music was pretty loud, so we had to shout to have a conversation. Drinks were okay, nothing to really write home about for the price. The palate cleanser they gave us (almost like grapefruit sorbet) was jarring, and I probably wouldn't recommend trying it unless you like that kind of thing. My friend said she liked the guacamole, so that's a plus. The cotton candy at the end was a cool and exciting touch. Overall, I don't fully understand the hype, but I could see how some people like it.

Lolita was definitely one of the highlights of my Boston trip. Gothic dim inside but beautifully decorated. Was not able to try the food as we came in for drinks but everything looks great. A little pricier, but for a nice dinner it definitely looks like a good spot
Awesome vibe and drinks.
Food was okay and not worth the price. I'd come back for drinks again! This place gets pretty busy so reservations will be necessary for a nice seating (there's first come first serve bar seating)
Enjoyed until I saw a RAT
The food was wonderful ( blackened shrimp quesadilla), staff friendly until we saw a big fat black rat scurry across the floor. We alerted the staff and left very upset.

"Amazing food ! Amazing music !!! Amazing service !!!!!!" I would go again and again
Unexpected and excellent!
This place was spectacular! The service was amazing, the cocktails were great, and every plate of food was better than the last! We dropped in unexpectedly late one night after a long international flight. We got seats by the bar right away and enjoyed our dinner from there! Excellent first experience in Boston!
Saw not only 1 rat but 2 rats at this location.
The slow service and rat problem is not worth going here.
Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner.
Highly recommend making a reservation regardless of what day you go because it would have been a 2+ hour wait for us to walk in. We were promptly seated and made our way to the table, it is a very cool vibe and ambience inside. It feels like the inside of a castle despite how nonchalant the outside looks! There was a happy hour or something going on and it was pretty loud inside. Definitely had to speak up across the table to hear each other. They brought out shaved ice to share and topped it off with a bit of tequila. We ordered margaritas and the queso as well as the chicken nachos and chicken quesadilla. The margaritas were delicious not super strong. The queso was nice and creamy and the toppings gave it some variety with the flavor. I had the chicken habanero quesadilla which was really good. The habanero added a really nice kick without excessive spice. We ended with the churros which were fresh and warm, it came with chocolate dipping sauce but was light on the dusting. Overall, it was a great experience and the food was good. Maybe a little pricey but I think it's worth it for the location and the vibes!

It's expensive, but then the food and the drinks were really amazing - I just don't know if it's worth the price. Their steak tacos were so good, I can't stop thinking about them. I had the strawberry sangria, and we got the quesadillas too. Overall, I'd totally go again for a special occasion where I can ball out and forget that I have adult responsibilities. Service was good, a bit slow at times but it's a cool vibe for drinks and gossipping with your friends :)

Firstly, we love the ambiance and the moody vibe of the restaurant. However, the music was quite loud and not really suit the vibe that the restaurant has set. Secondly, our server was amazing, even though he had to take care a lot of tables at once, he managed to checking in with us and very attentive. Lastly, let's talk about the food. While everything else was amazing, the food wasn't great. The calamari and ceviche tasted good but for the portion which were extremely small, not worth the prices. The tacos, quesadillas and salsa tasted mediocre at best. If you gonna come here, just come for their drinks, not their food.
Amazing ambience with great food.
Reservation for weekend dining is highly suggested.
We went here today (3/2/24) for brunch.
The food was mediocre, but the real issue was with the bar service. We ordered two Margaritas and got glasses filled to the rim with crushed ice. I don't know about others who might read this, but I really object to paying $15 for a glass of ice. After complaining to the manager, who pushed all of my buttons by going on and on about shot sizes (Dude! How about simply saying "Sorry you weren't satisfied, we'll remove the drinks from the bill."), we had the drinks removed from the bill. I won't be going back. AFAIK, this is just another poseur Boston restaurant where quality takes a back seat to decor at the $$$ price point. So tired of crummy Boston restaurants.
I love Lolita and all the food I get here is so good.
I've been here so many times but this is the first time I got a palette cleanser to start the meal and cotton candy to end the meal. We also got the steak, trio guacamole and chips, calamari, and elote. I highly recommend elote and the trio guacamole and chips!

Such a fun spot! The food was amazing, the waiter was super nice, and it made for a very special birthday dinner. It's a bit in the expensive side, but you get what you pay for!
VERY disappointed
Very disappointed We were celebrating my husband birthday. I made a reservation two weeks before and asked for a nice table. They squeezed us between tables. Nice tables close to window was empty. No lunch menu on Sunday. Food is TOO spicy. Dark environment.
Missed the mark
Wanting a unique dining experience we selected Lolita back bay location. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Our server Emily greeted us and took care of our every need. The restaurant seating however is far too tight. You are literally sitting shoulder to shoulder with the people seated next to you. The music was so loud we couldn’t hear each other or the staff. I think the guests would be better served and enjoy the experience better is you simply removed a table or 2 .
Good for gluten free
Visited this place on a recent city break to Boston. As a coeliac it’s hard to trust places to prepare completely gluten free food but this place had good reviews so we gave it a try. We arrived on a Sunday evening and the only tables available were at the bar area. The waiter behind the bar knew her stuff around gluten free. I ordered some nachos with bacon and a rice bowl dish. Both dishes were lovely but on the small side! The bar didn’t have any cider which was disappointing. Decent food, decent place

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
