Business lunch - superb
We went as a group of 6 for a business lunch. The food was fantastic, we loved everything on the menu and we ordered quite a lot! Servce was superb. its a hidden gem and I thoroughly recommend.
Be the first to ReplySimply excellent in all respects - and the staff seem to really enjoy themselves
We went for dinner on Saturday night which was our third visit and twice we have taken friends. Each time the food, service and staff have all been excellent. It's London so prices are a little high for us country folk, but good value in comparison with many other places. The portion sizes are good and the wine list varied in content and price point. We started with Sea Bream Tartare, pronounced excellent by the MemSahib and I had the Ham Hock Salad - absolutely lovely. We both had the Roast Guinea Fowl, which was simply delicious (the crispy wing being standout good). Each time our friends have said that it was a new restaurant to add to their London list. The restaurant is busy - though less so on Fridays and Saturdays, we were told (mid-week more so with people in London but away at the weekend?) - but we have never been rushed. And, as I said in the title, the staff seem to be genuinely happy and enjoying themselves, which always makes dining a better experience.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing
We booked for a pre theatre birthday meal and opted for the a la carte menu. The food was incredible very inventive and super tasty, the service was excellent you were not made to feel rushed or hovered over nothing was too much trouble. We picked this restaurant from a short list of 4 and are so glad we did, you do everything so well and at a very good price, great value for money. We would definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Well done all at Lorne and thank you for a wonderful experience.
Be the first to ReplyWow
Everything was perfect from the moment we entered the restaurant😊 The way we were greeted by the staff, the table offered and the delicious bread and oil. The menu is well put together and the wine list is amazing! We had the blue cheese and the coppa for starters, followed by the veal and the cornish cod - what can I say the best meal in the UK ever… We paired it with a wonderful pinot noir from Austria - perfect! We couldn’t resist the dessert and finished the perfect meal with brown butter cake and softened vanilla ice ❤️ When the bill arrived we were positively surprised - 214£ for 3 courses, sparkling wine, bottle of red and port for the pudding - worth every penny ❤️ Thank you very much, we will be back!
Be the first to ReplyRushed and overbearing service let the lovely food down
The customer service is really behind this review score - from the moment we got there, for a business dinner, we were rushed. An hour and a half for a sitting is really pushing it & from the waiter asking if we wanted to order food within moments of sitting down when we had barely had a chance to look at the menu, putting the bill on our table when we had full drinks, and rushing us to leave when we weren’t even finished our drinks is just not a nice experience when you’re trying to entertain clients. Can’t fault the food, that was lovely but we all left feeling disappointed and for the price point, this isn’t fast food!!!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food and service
We booked for a pre-theatre dinner, and had the fixed price 3 course menu. The service was fabulous and friendly, the wine was lovely, and the food was so very tasty. The tomato salad was unlike anything I've ever tasted. They even brought out "Happy Birthday" madeleines as I'd mentioned it was my husband's birthday. We will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplySmart, busy and buzzy😁
This is a smart, busy, buzzy modern restaurant in a lively neighbourhood. The menu includes a reasonably priced and well structured set menu containing 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts. The food was excellent with a rich and smooth duck parfait with sauterne jelly being a highlight for me and the cod dish being Linda's favourite. We enjoyed the ambience and the team were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Would definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyGo to the chicken shop next door for a better dinner.
Wow terrible customer service and tiny portions. Arrived and given a terrible table and the wine was disappointing. FYI a table at the bar means a table in the cloak room. Not the bar where they serve drinks. Over sold and never again.
Be the first to ReplySuperbe Food, Great Service
I visited Lorne for the first time with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We were given a booth, which we had requested, and were served promptly. Very attentive and friendly staff throughout. There is a relaxed feel to the place, not stuck up - the food was sublime. Very good choice of dishes - we both had fish which was cooked to perfection. The food is light enough to ensure you can enjoy three courses. Every mouthful was lovely - they were flexible and I could make some change to my dessert. And we were given a couple of madeleines and a birthday message for my friend which was much appreciated. All in all an excellent experience and I can't wait to eat at Lorne again.
Be the first to ReplyThe most wonderful food and staff
Incredible meal with great service from all members of staff! Lovely environment and atmosphere the whole night and food had so much thought and flavour put into it. Lorne accommodated for our allergy perfectly and it didn’t feel like anything was missing from the dishes! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for great food with a wonderful atmosphere and staff who take the time to get to know the customer and to take a genuine interest in their needs and tastes! We hope to visit Lorne again soon!
Be the first to ReplyWoefully small set menu portions
This was a special occasion and we were really looking forward to it. My husband opted for two courses from the set menu and I opted for a la carte. The food and wine were really delicious. When my husband politely mentioned that his portions were very small, the waiter ( the owner I think) was a bit defensive and said that this was because it was a set menu and reasonably priced. She said that it should be enough food if you have all three courses. The thing is that two courses are offered as well as three. If you have only two are you supposed to stay hungry after dinner? The food was lovely and my portions a good size but I do think it should be pointed out that the set menu has small plates rather than full portions. This is not the norm for a set menu which is generally good value with less choice. The two warm madeleines with Happy Anniversary written on the plate in chocolate was a generous and thoughtful touch but was not enough to entirely soften our disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful food and wine
Went on spec as visited an exhibition at the Tate, and had a really enjoyable lunch. The 3 course set lunch is lovely, my onglet was melt in the mouth tender. Great sea bream and a beautiful tart. Good value. The wine by the glass is really reasonably priced. The only thing that let it down was the young server wasn’t the most proactive at engaging and taking orders, and very slow at taking a drinks order etc. I had to chase up the drinks once ordered. But we would certainly return as nice atmosphere and great food.
Be the first to ReplyA class act from start to finish.
Lovely atmosphere, good informative, humourous service and seriously brilliant food.....a different class and found in Pimlico. Cooking of this quality is not usually found in an unheralded restaurant but the high standard of presentation and taste surprised us all, and put to shame those overpriced michelin stared establishments parading their multi course taster menus. Enjoy while it lasts....for a long time we hope.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely atmosphere and good
A lovely atmosphere and good quality food. The portions are a little small so you will order three courses but everyone was delicious. We would definitely go back as the vibe was so lovely. The restaurant also has a good wine list.
Be the first to ReplyFlawless and passionate cooking in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere
The small and modestly decorated dining room of Lorne made for a cozy and relaxed atmosphere. Service was very welcoming and friendly. The decor may have been unpretentious but the food reached a rare level of finesse. Mac and cheese bites were crisp with gorgeous flavour. The burnt tomato ketchup was bold and smoky and perfectly balanced the rich creaminess of the pasta. Cod was cooked beautifully and came resting on top of vegetables with a broth of lemon and garlic. A wonderful dish that captured the vibrancy and colour of spring. The fact that each pea and broad bean had been painstakingly peeled gives some idea of the attention to detail. More fresh and lively flavours abounded in lemon jelly, with yoghurt sorbet, lemon curd and poppy seed biscuit and meringue. The jelly and ice cream evoked comforting memories of childhood treats. It may not be the most ostentatious venue in London, but if you appreciate first class ingredients cooked with great love and skill, then Lorne is well worth a visit.
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem
Lorne is a small restaurant, slightly less than 50 seats. Lorne was recommended by our hotel's concierge staff. The food and wines were superb. Creative cuisine, beautiful presentation. The highlights are the restaurant staff, especially our server, Alice. Her knowledge of the restaurant's dishes, techniques used in preparations, are encyclopedic and her descriptions truly poetic.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and wine, really friendly staff all in good time for the theatre
We were looking for a restaurant close to the Victoria Palace Theatre that catered for vegetarians and we weren't disappointed. Delicious food and great wine. The staff could not have been more helpful and the atmosphere was great. Good acoustics also, we could hear each other talk but there was still plenty of atmosphere and light.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food with superb service
This is our 2nd visit and we have not been disappointed. We requested a quiet table as my Father is hard of hearing, and that was provided both times. The service was wonderful, the waitress engaging with us each time she attended the table, and the food very very good. The food arrived smoothly and we were not hurried along even though we were the last customers from the lunchtime service. We are making this an annual pilgramage for me, my brother and my Dad
Be the first to ReplySurprisingly Expensive
High Priced Place and small dishes. Place is cozy but prices are uninvited. Food quantity is small making u have to eat full menu. Its European french but no sophistication to justify. On fact, at the door u get u get an impression of a bistro.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, good service, irritating drafty front door.
My wife and I enjoyed every course on offer! Hors d'oeuvres, starter, main, dessert, cheese & madelines. All with a great bottle of Rioja. The pecorino gougeres were fantastic; warm with a melted cheese centre. My chicken raviolo was excellent; very flavoursome and a generous size with a large chicken breast centre. My wife's favourite course was the sea bream tartare; really well balanced and would happily have had it as a main. The beef onglet was great as was the chocolate cremeaux and madeleines - all 5 star. The January King cabbage was ok, more cabbage than artichoke, scrapes 4 stars. The only food disappointment was the Orange and olive polenta cake which simply did not work for us.
Service was ok. Maybe slightly challenged by the masks? Friendly enough.
The biggest frustration was being positioned at the front of the restaurant on a cold day and the main door not fully closing each time someone entered or exited meaning we had to get up to close it to stop us being blasted by a cold draft. If a cold day, ask to be seated at the back of the restaurant.
Would definitely return if warmer or if availability to sit at the back of the restaurant and would know to skip the January cabbage and polenta cake...that would probably make it a five star trip.
Do visit. Great food.
Fabulous
So good we went twice in a week. Once with friends and next time in our own.
Both times the food was historic. Lovely ambiance, great staff. Wonderful flavours and textures.
Great to see independents doing well.
Outstanding seasonal cooking
We visited Lorne around Christmas and were delighted with the seasonal dishes. The cooking was excellent and creative and service was great too. The restaurant itself is homely and cosy - we will be returning and I highly recommend a visit!
Be the first to ReplyShow me a better neighbourhood restaurant
If you love cosy atmosphere, thoughtful service, delicious seasonal food and a considered drinks offering then Lorne is definitely for you. Every time I’ve been it’s turned out to be a special experience, from the moment you sit at your table to the minute you leave it feels like you have left the outside behind, only to be cocooned in a special little world of its own. Simply wonderful!
Be the first to ReplyBrilliant British seasonal menu
Oh yum! What a little gem of a restaurant only 5 minutes walk from busy Victoria Station.
A real treat with seasonal British fare on the menu, a great wine list and helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Katie the owner was on hand to give personal recommendations and her taste is faultless. Highly recommend. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you Katie and team.
Stunning food in every way
I have eaten at Lorne restaurant a number of times and have always rated it as one of the best restaurants not only in the area but also in London. Today I had lunch there and the food was absolutely stunning. Brilliant service, beautifully presented but above all really gorgeous food. My colleague has not eaten at Lorne before and he was blown away by the quality. Please no more floods or Covid restrictions, both of which this restaurant has suffered.
