Maestro Pasadena used to be 5 stars.
Food and drinks were amazing. Unfortunately both have severely declined. We understand restaurants are struggling to cut cost and survive in this economy. However, you should recognize that when you offer a higher end dining experience, you can't increase prices and at the same time lower the quality of food. People that visit these types of restaurants typically are not struggling financially. They can afford higher prices. If you need to increase your prices to survive in this economy, we understand and will support you. But do not lower your quality of food, drinks and service in an effort to cut cost. By cutting cost in food and portions, you are altering the taste of your signature dishes. By cutting cost on drinks and service, at times entire meals have been delivered to the tables before drinks are even served. This is unacceptable. We want you to continue to succeed and be true to who you were. We sincerely want the quality you used to bring to the dinning experience back. You have the potential to once again be an amazing restaurant. We miss the old Maestro!

I was inticed by the live music. We ordered a few dishes. Staff was friendly and courteous. However, portions were tiny. Im talking xxxs. I will post the "salad" i ordered. The dish its served in is not deep, its a flat plate so dont be misguided. As you can see, its sauce with 5 leaves and a very small amount of everything else. 4 grape tomatoes ( i counted ). Ive gone to restaurants where the dishes are tiny such as bacari or redbird , at both establishments the staff always informed us to order about (2-3) plates per person. I will post a picture of my dish . I paid $20 for this! Fortunately king taco saved the day, as its around the corner. Never again

Amazing service, food and ambiance! My go to place in Pasadena. Brunch is my favorite but dinner is out of this world!

Be the first to ReplyThe absolute best restaurant ever.
Plus their drinks are amazing. Service is always great and the owners are friendly and Lucy always checking on how you're liking the meal.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful date night.
I couldn't have asked for a better evening. Made a reservation on Sunday night at 6. Was sat right away outside in the patio area. Amazing music was flowing from the live performance and ambiance was on point. Our waiter Jonathan was honestly the best we have had in a long time. He was so welcoming and helpful with the menu and gave his recommendations. Always managed to check in and stay so cheerful and friendly through it all. An absolute gem. We started the evening with some cocktails. Tequila and mezcal is always a yes. Guayabita was strong, Smokey with guava and citrus notes. Perfectly balanced. Watermelon margarita was very fresh. We wanted to try the Tetela starter because it was nothing I had heard of and was totally worth it. Bean purée was silky smooth and so yummy, I could eat a bowl of it. The Tetela was a moist triangular blue corn masa that was topped with cheese and tomatillo. Very fresh, not greasy, filling and delicious. Hubby had the mole, recommended my Jonathan (thank you) and I had the enchiladas. I'm usually not a mole kind of girl, but my hat off to the chef because I really enjoyed all the different flavors in the sauce without it being too sweet. Enchiladas we're on point. Chicken tinga was really good. They were not covered in processed cheese like most are, but naturally simple and tasteful with a little cotija and red sauce. Side salad was surprisingly really good. Perfectly dressed and topped with apple and radishes. Dessert was a must but we couldn't decide so we went with the guava cheesecake and the chocolate torte that Jonathan recommended. That torte was my favorite! Luscious and delectable with deep dark chocolate and a hint of spice that tickles the back of your throat. The crust! Was heavenly. Guava cheesecake was creamy and refreshing. The crust and the diced guava took it up a notch. It was the ideal palate cleanser. Wonderful time, definitely recommend. Did I mention the entertainment? Just the best. What a voice. We'll be back, soon.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for dinner and everyone enjoyed the food
Came here for dinner and everyone enjoyed the food immensely. We ordered the Enmoladas, Carnitas Plate and Burritas. The Mole Sauce was rich and had many layers of flavors. I could have eaten plates of it. The atmosphere was really nice. We sat outside on the patio and it was beautiful with the lights. There was a guitar player who was playing twists of classic songs just loud enough to tap along to but not loud enough to interfere with our conversation. A couple of nit-picky things that I mention only because they make me not necessarily want to come back here immediately. The place is popular (rightly so due to the great food) so it's hard to get in. We made reservations the day of and couldn't get in until 8pm. (Good for them.) We got there and were briskly informed that our table was outside and that it would be an hour wait for an inside one. We weren't sure everyone in our party would be ok sitting outside. Other restaurants let you select inside or patio when you make the reservation. This restaurant has heaters outside, but if I had known, I probably would have passed for that night and called to make a reservation for another day for inside. Also our experience ordering the drinks was a bit odd. Not sure if the guy delivering the drinks was new, but he sure didn't know what he was dropping off as when he got to the table there was confusion and our waitress had to come over and correct. I had ordered the Maracuya for example and he held up my drink and said "passion fruit drink." I didn't remember all of the drink's ingredients and didn't have a menu readily available to check. A situation that was solved later in the night as he started coming to the table and just dropping drinks with saying little to nothing. My husband ordered a Modelo and the guy comes up to us and says "beer" and leaves the drink. I guess being vague is a good way not to get it wrong. Again, all not big, but the meal wasn't cheap so I'd hope that I'd leave excited to come back. That said, our waitress was nice and attentive. She did a great job!

The place, the service, and the food is great! Drinks are delicious. It's elegant and cozy inside. Good music playing loud enough to enjoy it, but low enough to still hear each other talk. The outdoor seating is nicely decorated with lights and you have live entertainment. They do have heaters for chilly nights. The service is like no other. They're on it. The waiter was very attentive. Your water cup is never empty. Food and drinks are out relatively quick.Food is delicious. And it's wonderful how their menu incorporates simple yet sophisticated ingredients into the menu. We ordered the Tetela as an appetizer. It was delicious. I had the tacos ahogados and my friend had enmoladas both were delicious. The mole is not your traditional "more on the sweet side" mole, but still delicious and still has the taste of the mole just not sweet. For dessert we had the 3 leches carrot cake and it was to die for. If you love carrot cake and love 3 leches cake this combo is just it! For drinks we did the Tamarindo margarita and the Guayabita... both were delicious! Do make a note, their drinks are made with mezcal, however you can substitute the mezcal for tequila if needed. Some can say Mezcal can be an acquired taste. If you get to sit outdoors I hope you get to enjoy Gabriel's voice. He sings beautiful and he plays an array of genres and songs.

The restaurant is dimly lit but very welcoming when I entered. We were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside. Opted for inside because of the cold winter breeze, but I heard live music playing outside. Ordered a few dishes to share and cocktails, not pictured. Ceviche: very citrusy and it looks like the shrimp was slightly blanched, rather than letting the lemon lime do the work. This was good to start the meal. Oysters aguachiles: had high hopes for this because I love oysters and never had oysters aguachiles. Big mistake. The aguachile sauce was ok but the oysters were straight rancid. I took one bite and immediately spit it out. Luckily, the server was apologetic and removed this from the bill. Tacos ahogados: chicken taquitos drenched in a chicken broth. It was just okay but my sister loved it and finished the entire dish. Octopus: grilled octopus over fideo and nopales. Octopus was prepared and cooked very well. I'm not a fan of fideo but really enjoyed pairing the octopus with nopales. Maestro margarita: refreshing and had a slight kick. Overall, the service and food were really great and the mood was chill and intimate.
Be the first to ReplyI had a beautiful time here.
The servers were great and the ambiance was amazing. I really enjoyed the mariachi night. I really like the cocktail drinks, I tried a couple of them but I don't remember the names. One of them was a cucumber mix and another was spicy and smokey. They were both really good. The food was so good, and I want to thank the cook Alan, for coming out and letting us know he was the cook for the night. We had a lot of questions about the ingredients and the plates so wanted to make sure the questions were answered by someone who is actually cooking the food. I really enjoyed the shrimp tacos, although the price is not justified I'm glad I did try it. Presentation was excellent and the portions were good. You definitely have to try their guacamole, I love it when it's a little more citrusy and this one hit the spot! Amazing experience overall!

Way to small restaurant and they expect for four to be able to eat in a table that is meant to sit two people. Wasted my time there and left when they can't accommodate. I asked for a booth and when I get there they said that it was reserved for bigger party. Never going back.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the place for unique Mexican dinning.
All the good we ordered was delicious! Everyone from the hostess to the bartender were nice and welcoming. The waitress was very polite and courteous to us. All in all a very well established restaurant. I highly recommend it. Thanks.

Every time we eat here, I think "We really should eat here more often." We've only been here a few times but every meal has been top notch. It's the only local restaurant that does hi-end Mexican cuisine comparable to Rick Bayless' well-known restaurants. This week, we had a ceviche starter with arrachera and enmoladas entrees. Fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyI love everything about this restaurant.
Brunch, dinner, it doesn't matter. Great service and atmosphere. The food is incredible. The margaritas are so good! I've gone on the weekends and during the week. I prefer the outdoor seating and the live entertainment is also quite good. You can't miss on anything you order. Authentic and savory. Please go.

We went out for tacos on the fancier side.My order: 2 diced shrimp tacos on chubby handmade tortillas then bathed in broth. With a cucumber lime jalapeno margarita. Very summery and delicious.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time coming to this restaurant and it was somewhat
First time coming to this restaurant and it was somewhat disappointing. The restaurant itself is nice and the service was very good and attentive. Cons were the door was left open to the patio which means gnats and flies could get in to the people eating inside, expensive parking next-door at the Public lot $10 for one hour, food was a C+ B- and was very expensive, as were the cocktails at $15 each for very little liquid mostly ice!
Be the first to ReplyEverything we had was amazing.
We had the hibiscus and tamarind margarita, enchiladas, carne en su jugo, carrot cake tres leches and the guava cheesecake. Nothing was disappointing.

Food is always good. Interesting menu. Great drinks (and I'm not a mescal guy - plenty of variety of you're into other kinds of spirits). Staff has always been knowledgeable about the menu and cocktails. Fun vibe - current but not trying too hard.

Not your typical Mexican restaurant with no vibrant colors; instead, it's a trendy and open-floor concept. Great to have big parties. Parking on the street or structure nearbyService was good, the food presentation was lovely, and mezcal drinks were on pointAppetizers: Guacamole with plantains - was flavorful, and you didn't miss the chips Tetela - the bean puree with the quesilla with the tomatillo salsa made a perfect pairCitrus salad- any salad with beets is always a winner for me Main course:Green enchiladas - tangy, and the chicken was tenderRed enchiladas - were customized to be vegetarian friendly (red sauce is vegetarian, and green sauce is not) Fried quesadilla - not sure if you can call it a quesadilla seemed like a tostada I wished they had a couple more items for vegetarians but Overall great experience
Be the first to ReplyThe vibes here are good, and the service was very on point.
Our waitress was making sure our drinks topped off at all times despite it being quite busy. The food here is good too but I wouldn't say it's the best Mexican food I've ever had. I would say what made the meal great was the dessert.... They have a guava cheesecake that is absolutely delicious.

Don't bother making a reservation as they'll put you outside, even if it's 40 degrees. My wife and I left rather than freeze. Total disappointment I'd give zero stars if that were an option Go anywhere else
