Maido Miraflores Reviews
Exceptional
The best food I had ever had.. The 15th year anniversary with 15 courses (the best dishes in the last 15 year) were exceptional.. Alot of best ever (e.g. soap, sushi).. Not all courses were 3 Michelin stars level.. Overall I would give this place 2.5 Michelin Stars.. I preferred this place over Central (World best restaurant in the world in 2023, Maido is 5th) the food is intensive and flavorful.. Central is more creative and more subtle. If I was in Lima.. definitely go here... Booked well ahead.. We didn't but was lucky to get in absolutely last minute.
Fabulous dining experience! Children welcome!
My family of four (me, husband, and two young sons, ages 4 and 6) traveled to Peru in March. Lima is known for it's top restaurants and I chose Maido for two reasons: 1. I was able to make a reservation about 2 months before our trip and 2. Children are welcome! First, the food was FABULOUS! To be honest, I'm not really a foodie, but the quality, presentation, and taste of the food was unlike anything I've experienced before. We tried several menu items (we chose a la carte style as opposed to the tasting menu) and nothing disappointed. It truly is the best food I've ever had in my life. I can see why Maido is rated the 5th best restaurant in the world! Second, the staff were incredibly kind to my children. I was worried that the food might be too "fancy" for my kids; however the staff recommended the most kid-friendly meals, and I can assure you they definitely ate well that night! Additionally, the staff took the time to print a few coloring book worksheets/ provided crayons which was very much appreciated! I should mention the dining area is quite small and intimate, so rowdy children might get noticed here/ interfere with the other diners experience. Thankfully my kids were on their best behavior that evening. Do yourself a favor and book Maido now!
Best you’ll ever have in Lima
Best meal we’ve had in a while. We’ve dined in Europe, Asia, Caribbean, Latin America. Been to a few Michellin star restaurants and they don’t compare and I can attest this was a truly enjoyable dining experience. The Navaja Clams, Chicharron sandwich & Cabrito dumplings set the tone for an incredible dinner. For the main course we ordered the 50 hour Beef Short Rib, Asado de Tira & Arroz con Pato which were truly delish. Our cocktails were on point and the semillas and Cacao dessert just to die for. I just don’t understand the negative reviews, this place is not only elegant and sophisticated but the service is outstanding. This is a must dining experience while in Lima. Don’t miss out. It’s named best in Latin America & 6th in the World for a reason.
Average service and food standard
We had the MAIDO EXPERIENCE WITH PAIRING(S/1619.00per person), their website/ menu states Prices included tax and service. However, the staff requested us to pay 15% tips, we finally paid 10%. It was a bad impression as additional service charge was forced to pay to a certain amount dictated by the staff.
Number 6? A joke?
Underwhelmed. We had extremely high expectations for this restaurant given its rating but the courses did not complement each other and were often uninspired. The best course we had was the toro and uni which was the only course that was simply raw ingredients. We could not get rid of the taste of some of the courses which the flavors were overpowering. We had to ask for ginger to attempt to cleanse our palette which did not work. An exceptionally heavy soup was served early on which killed our enjoyment of the following courses. It felt like the experience was crafted for tourists who are willing to pay a premium for a top restaurant, as opposed to a carefully curated experience for those who want to experience the best food in the world. For the three of us who dine, two are experiencing G.I. symptoms after the meal. If you are in Lima and have an unlimited budget, sure give it a try if you don’t have a flight the next day, otherwise try Kjolle if you want to indulge in exceptional like flavors and celebrity like experience.
Crazy good!
We had the tasting menu which is their 11-course meal and it was so delicious! Of course there were dishes we liked more than others but overall it was nice to get a little insight into their cuisine. The whole menu went together quite effortlessly, it had a good flow. None of the tastes were competing with each other much rather they were setting each other up for the best taste… it was a bit like a play, where at first you get introduced to the pallet of tastes and then it comes to a climax with the ramen where it was intense and then you get mellowed out and led to the dessert finale. Super super super good! Our waiter was great as well, and the ambience was nice! The walls are mirrored which makes the room seem bigger but you’ve still got your privacy which makes for a great date spot as well. ☺️
Overpriced for untasty food
OVERPRICED for what it is the restaurant itself! First they don’t have dress code, thats awful, people were having dinner in shorts and flip flops, not what I expected at all, also de dinner went okay, we had the “Maido experience”, but non of the dishes I would order ever again if I had the opportunity on the menu, because they where ok but not to go crazy about it or tasty at all, I don’t remember one single dish from the 11 course that I liked it, the ambience it’s too loud, lights are awkward, service it’s okay I mean for the best restaurant in Latin America you expect they are not at least servers talking about their tables on your back, we were seated at the bar by the way… Bathrooms have very cheap plastic bins Trust me you can eat wayyyyyy better around Lima with the 10% you’ll spend in Maido.
Amazing
I went to Lima with my wife last year for my birthday and we just had to try one of the city's flagship restaurants. We decided on Maido cause Nikkei is our favorite style of Peruvian food. We booked a reservation for 4:30PM, initially we were looking for dinner reservations, but there were no spots available at the day we decided to go (book early, as early as you can). It turned out for the best, and I'll elaborate why further on. I'm no food critic or anything, so I'll spare the fellow reader from any review of the food and focus on the experience itself. We opted for the 11 course menu with no harmonization. We're not super into wines so figured it wouldn't be worth it. The place is beautiful without being lavish. Minimalist atmosphere, very quiet and cozy. I wasn't informed of any dress code and just went with a t-shirt and a bomber jacket. It was fine, no worries about that. First thing to know is to free your schedule on the day of the visit. Specially if you're ordering the tasting menu. I think we spent almost 4 hours at the restaurant and it was worth every minute. This is not a meal, this is an experience. Set time apart, and get yourself in the right headspace to just go enjoy the best food you'll ever eat without anything else on the back of your head. The courses take time from one to the other, you'll take time tasting them, do not squeeze this on a day with a ton of other activities, it'll ruin the experience. Be very wary of the time you're booking your reservation and plan accordingly. The courses look small but it is a lot of food. Keep in mind how your body reacts to a big meal in a long time span to make sure you're making the most of it. Like I mentioned before, had I booked a late dinner my experience wouldn't be as good as I would've had a poor night's sleep. Again, the tasting menu is a lot of food for the average person. The staff was great, very friendly and thoughtful, and just makes you feel very welcome. Everything is so thought out and meticulously well made you won't even bother the check (this one does hurt). I even got an additional dessert as a birthday gift. I never mentioned my birthday in there, but I may have made the comment on my reservation, can't really recall it. But I was mindblown by how thoughtful and caring that was. Specially as it had congratulations written in portuguese (my native language). Treat yourself a visit to Maido. It was hands down one of the best experiences of my life, you will not regret it.
Best restaurant I have ever visited
Just absolutely magnificent from start to finish. Went three times during my stay in Lima, despite the cost. Can't fathom the negative reviews, must be philistines. Don't miss this restaurant on your trio to Lima.
Probably the best food we have ever eaten
Superb from start to finish. We ordered the full tasting menu 1x vegetarian 1x standard. All courses were exquisite and the service excellent. We were a walk-in and despite them being packed they managed to find us a table and I am glad they did! Favourite dish was the scallop with bernaise, lime, beef reduction and cassava crisps from the Amazon!
Great food and great service
Maido restaurant was fantastic from the very start. The service was great and very attentive. The food was fantastic and extremely tasty. Every dish was made right there and with fresh ingredients. Absolutely recommendable.
, not worth it AT ALL!!
Food was too expensive, had the experience, almost $200 Pp. Every dish had the same after taste, service was very slow, and at the end, the bathroom had vomit and they had no water to flush the toilet . Terrible experience
Superb!! and the best Tiradito I have ever tasted...Will come back
Outstanding service and the food was incredible. My bf is a chef in NYC and I am a Somm so we carefully analyzed every dish and listened to each description/presentation as dishes arrived. I was in tears when I tasted the Tiradito (the waiter told me their little secret) and the Toro + Nigiri were perfectly done! The maridaje pairing was flawless. I also took the time to talk to 3 staff members and they all told me how happy they were working at Maido because of the excellent training (very knowledgeable staff!!!) , pay and team work. I will not only come back to support this wonderful restaurant but to allow chef Micha to mess with my taste buds all over again. Wonderful experience!

Noel Raimundo Decàn review of Maido
Had dinner at Maido # 6 among the 50 Best restaurants in World. Dinned at the Sushi Bar because reservations for dinning room had to be made at least 2 months in advance. That good & famous is Maido. Started with a few pieces of Sushi made to Japanese perfection. Main course was tenderloin center cut with slices of tomatoes & boiled veggies. Very Tender & delicious. Paired with glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. Smooth, with hints of plumb. For desert had mousse of chocolate. Maido’s Chef is of Japanese of ancestry and was trained in Japan before opening Maido, fusion of Japanese & Peruvian cuisine. Strongly recommend dinner at Maido
Very good food, fusion Japanese Peruvian
Ate the Nikkei experience which was an 11 course meal. Everything was very good. My husband had the wine pairing, I did not. When I decided I wanted 1 glass of wine, same as the one my husband had in his wine paring, I was told this wine was not available by the glass. If I wanted 1 glass, it would be 90 soles. I agreed and hoped for a normal glass of wine. To my big disappointment, I received the same small quantity of wine as my husband had with his wine pairing. So I consider the 90 soles for 1/3 glass of wine a rip-off. I think at the prices this restaurant charges, they could have served me a regular 20 cl glass of wine. Other than this, the experience was a very good one. Service runs like clockwork, with the right amount of time between every course. At over 2000 soles for dinner for 2, this does not come cheap in Peru. However, as foodies, we appreciate the fine cooking and are happy to pay for outstanding quality, with the 2 disappointment over the 1 glass of wine. Overall a very good experience.
Food was exceptional, service could be better
It’s no secret that I’m obsessed with Japanese food, so when I found out that one of the top restaurants in Lima was a restaurant that combined Japanese & Peruvian, what better way to mark my last meal/lunch in Peru before flying home. We start with 3 gone-in-no-time bites. I enjoyed all 3, but the duck was my favourite, being both extremely pretty and extremely tasty. The potato dish in black also gets special mention for the impossibly delicate shell. Very nicely done. And wham, we’re straight into the good stuff. Those scallops were so yummy with their confident mellow sweetness, which was that oh so light and airy and crispy wafer that also performs the seasoning for the dish. Goodness me, we are certainly off to a superb start. Who doesn’t love anything deep fried, and the tempura cod was spot on, with the light, crunchy batter and well cooked fish which was both firm and soft. I’m not sure the potato dipping sauce worked as a dipping soup, buy as a shot of soup, it was marvellous. It was burning hot though, and I’m sure I scalded my tongue The nigri sushi looks a bit different from normal sushi, with the rice on the inside. The dish was blowtorched at the table. The warm pillowy soft sushi rice and that greasy piece of tuna, made a great marriage. The only issue is that some of the gish tasted cold and other bits hot, which was slightly disconcerting. I guess flamming the food at the table could lead to some unevenness. I’m used to having raw tuna cold and cooked tuna hot, but having both in one mouthful just felt wrong. I still really enjoyed the dish though. 😝 Had a little mocktail to kick off the next part, I love the strong lychee flavours that came through in the drink. Toro. Marinated in ponzu. Blowtorched. Umbrrlellahwrpfffh. I don’t have the word. It melted in my mouth and melted my mind. Insanely good. If I can only eat 1 thing for the rest of my life, I choose this. Cerviche with a twist up next. I liked cerviche even before this holiday, but have always preferred if the pickling was done lightly, so that the freshness and natural flavours of the ingredient gets to shine through. I found in Peru off the leche de tigre too heavy, and I felt it was a tiny touch so here, but I still managed to enjoy the crab and clams. How do I describe the colour of the fish stew? Somewhere between mustard and radioactive, or maybe as Coldplay once said, they called it yellow. It tasted great. Creamy, subtly spicy, deeply umami. The various seaweed gave a lovely interesting textural variance from the soft grouper. The only negative I would say is that it could have done with a fork. Eating the clams with only a spoon was a little challenging. I ended up taking it all into my mouth and then spitting out the shell. Classy. One of my favourite meals in Peru was the traditional prawn stew that is Chupe de Camarones. I was therefore very excited with this twist on a Xiao Long Bao. It was perfectly delicious. I could have easily had 3 more. A perfect marriage of East meets West, even if it’s not quite Japanese. The bonus of having fish eggs to pop in my mouth for minutes after just just great. From the description, I was expecting ramen from the last savoury course, but I should have read the menu more closely. Ramen reduction does not equal ramen. After the disappointment of not having noodles, the actual dish was ok. Tasty pork, interesting crispy lattice, not the best dish, but not a bad dish. And onto desserts we go. First up is a deconstructed piña colado without the booze. You should know I’m not the biggest fan of coconut as a flavour, but this was a triumph. Super fresh, great balance of sweet and tart. The coconut was not overpowering, and I was practically licking the bowl. I was impressed. Lots of tasting menus are often let down by the desserts, but here the foot remains firmly on the pedal. The next sweet course was the mirror opposite. Where the first was light and refreshing, this was deep and indulgent. Chocolate and matcha. Ooh aah. Everything you want in a luxurious dessert without overdoing the sweet quotient. Also, how pretty. We end with a box of dorayaki & mochi. To be honest, after the 2 superb desserts that preceded it, this was a little superfluous. They were not bad, they were just not needed. The waiting staff were always polite, but the service felt perfunctory rather than great. I don’t think that it helped that I seemed to have been seated next to a hidden cabinet which the staff were constantly going in and out of, made me feel like I was in the broom closet. Also, after asking me what type of water I wanted as I was seated, no one bothered to come back to offer to take my drink order. I initially thought, if you can’t be bothered to serve, I’ll save my money, but decided that I wanted to enjoy myself despite the lacklustre service, hence the mocktail coming halfway through the meal. Also, if you are a restaurant where the menu is from a QR code, you should really have the wi-fi password on the table. My phone signal seemed very slow, and it made for a slightly frustrating time. Yes, I could have asked for it, but the point is that for a luxury experience, I shouldn’t have to. Ultimately, the food was some of the best I’ve ever had, so I was willing to overlook some of my misgivings.
Special experience, wonderful service, delicious tasting menu
My partner and I had a beautiful four hour dining experience at Maido. Our server Christian was very attentive and well versed in the masterfully created dishes. The sommeliers were also very knowledgeable and professional. I tried a varietal or two I have never yet had, and I’m not a novice wine drinker. Was truly one of the best ceviche experiences I have had in my life, beautiful expression of Nikkei cuisine. I most enjoyed a black cod tempura dish with a native Peruvian potato sauce. Seemingly simple but elevated and scrumptious. Well worth the splurge, IMO. Perhaps we will return again in time to enjoy a different menu. Highly recommend if you can get in. We were on the waiting list and got lucky!
