I've enjoyed dining at Majordomo and other David Chang
I've enjoyed dining at Majordomo and other David Chang restaurants over the years. However, his predatory lawsuits against other producers of retail products called chili crunch are petty, mean, and low. He bought the rights from another producer, then proceeded to file cease and desists with others who sell the product. He backed off, but it's too little too late for me. Anyone who bullies small business people are banned from my world. Sound like anyone else we know? NEVER AGAIN. https://www.theguardian.com/food/2024/apr/04/chili-crunch-trademark-momofuku-david-chang https://www.aljazeera.com/economy/2024/4/19/us-chefs-bid-to-own-chili-crunch-name-raises-ire-in-indonesia-malaysia https://www.buzzfeed.com/rossyoder/momofuku-david-chang-chili-crunch-trademark-drama
Be the first to ReplyWhat majordomo has to offer overall is impressive.
The place looks fantastic and the staff is informed, timely, and friendly. I ordered the mushroom crunchy rice, Grilled Wagyu, and 1/2 oysters. All extremely delicious and nothing took too long to come out. By far my favorite thing on the menu is the Bing bread with the honey butter. Their cocktails are also delicious, I def recommend the Shiso. The overall vibe of majordomo is amazing and I would recommend coming here at any time for any occasion!

The short rib was okay. The beef fried rice was too oily. The cauliflower was great. The service and vibes were great
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is pretty awesome and full of flavor.
It's got a chill vibe but not too laid-back, you know? Felt pretty looked after while eating. The best stuff we tried were the tuna tartare and the mushroom rice. The only bummer was how cold it got inside. We were sitting at the bar, and with the door opening all the time, it was kinda freezing, especially with the cold weather in LA. They could've thought more about where to put that door. Other than that, totally loved it! Wish I could go back more often.

I've waited over a year and a half to come back for one reason or another. That was way too long to wait. We pre-order the short ribs this time and it didn't disappoint. Just looking at it as it came out made my mouth water. Plus the bings were amazing. I've never had Ricotta and chilli crunch before, but that was my favorite of them all. And of course, you can't go wrong with fried cauliflower. Finished the night with pandan pie. Not waiting for that long anymore.

Poor communication on behalf of this restaurant and their staff. Some nights you need to call ahead to order certain dishes off their normal menu. I wasted an hour drive each way and $12 parking due to their inability to provide clear communication on their website even by their staff. This is their one star reward. This restaurant and management can do much better.

We went here with a group of 8 on a Saturday evening so that we could order many delicious things off the menu. We pre-ordered the whole plate short rib prior to the reservation time. We sat on the patio and it was the perfect weather for a shared meal. A few people in our group had been here before and ordered based on past experiences. We ordered the eggplant bing to start. The portion size of the eggplant was really small to be sharable for more than 4 people but in the end we were glad it wasn't too much food since we ordered many other things. We ordered extra bread for this dish since I think it only comes with one bread. We also ordered the kimchi apple, which was a special 20th anniversary dish from the restaurant in NYC. I'm not a huge fan of kimchi but it was pretty light because of the apple. Again, not a huge portion for 8 but everyone got to try some of it. Next was the mushroom crispy rice and wow it was so delicious and flavorful! We each were able to get at least one ladle sized amount but if you aren't getting many bigger dishes, would recommend getting 2 of these for a large group. The boiled chicken came out with both chili sauce and scallion sauce and it was amazing - probably my favorite dish of the night! The chicken was incredibly tender and the rice was fragrant as well. They use the dark meat to make a soup that is brought out afterwards. The whole plate short rib is a must try for first timers and large groups. It comes with a variety of sides to make little wraps and the meat is very tender. They use the leftover meat to make fried rice at the end although the fried rice had an overwhelming flavor or horseradish or wasabi or something that was not my cup of tea so was sadly not a huge fan of that. We ordered another table ordered some flaming dessert so we ordered it as well and it was the MajorDonut! Very fun to watch and large portion for share for a group. It comes with fried donut pieces, caramel type sauce, ice cream, nuts and pineapple and was a nice end to our night. There is a parking lot across the street for $12 or free parking on Wilhardt street. Woul definitely come back to try some of their other delicious entrees!
Be the first to ReplyWe were a party of 8 for my sons birthday the other night.
We were seated right away at our reservation time. The staff were excellent, and the food amazing. We were lucky enough to get the last available order of short ribs which took about an hour to prepare. All the dishes we shared were great but the short ribs were the best any of us have ever eaten. Great food, great service, and an all around great evening. Well done !
Be the first to ReplyImmediately top 5 in LA my good man.
You need to get the bing and a few dips. Me and my lady got the ssam and had a week of leftovers. That ssam should be good enough for 4-5 hungry people. Good lord. Incredible dish.

Seriously good food paired with attentive service! I think we got the best table in the house overlooking, the kitchen and just inside the glass patio partition! Great mix of small, and larger dishes!

Indoor and outdoor seating with private dining room for large parties. Amazing food and drinks. Must try the APL if you have 4 or more people -- but need to preorder this. The bing, crispy potatoes, crispy rice and mushrooms, etc -- everything is quite solid! The best espresso martini I've ever had. Very good service as well.

Came back to celebrate a birthday and the food was soooo salty. Caution for the gem salad and snow pea dish. Usually I can take a lot of salt but it was actually a lot to handle. Quality of food made me rate this place from a 5 to 3 star. My favorite is still the bing but I think everything else, from cost to portion size, is just okay. Also we called ahead for 24 hour short rib for $225 and that was good! I think I like the Bo ssam better. I like the sides (they're unlimited) and the meat falls right off the bone. Corkage fee and cake fee are high too so prepare for that ahead of time! Added extra almost $100 to our cost. But I will say the server was nice enough to take off one of our dishes because we mentioned the saltiness
Be the first to ReplyThis is a place I return to again and again - so many date
This is a place I return to again and again - so many date nights, dinner with friends, and have even had a lovely meal with my infant at 5:30 on the patio (parents, IYKYK). The menu, on paper, is seemingly ordinary as far as LA fine dining goes; "fusion" food with really quality ingredients across an edited menu, in an industrial DTLA setting. But the dishes in actuality have SO much more soul than expected. The Wagyu Zabuton is my favorite steak preparation ANYWHERE. This steak + the Sugar Snap Peas with fresh horseradish is perfection. When in doubt, go with the server's suggestions - they truly love the food and know it well. It's also worth noting the restrooms here are impeccably clean and comfortable (anyone else ever avoid using the bathrooms at Bestia??). I'm convinced the negative reviews here are simply people who don't enjoy eating, or have this wacky idea that American-Asian food needs to be inexpensive. Thanks, Majordomo team! Keep doing what you're doing!
Be the first to ReplyDate night with my bf a couple of weeks ago.
The space itself was delightful - opening out to a tropical space full of fairy lights I did not anticipate in such an industrial area of Chinatown. Very much expected was the delicious food! Our server was friendly and helped guide our portions to ensure we didn't order too much or too little food. But he forgot to bring my boyfriend's second cocktail which was a bit disappointing. We had: * Bing with ricotta & chili crisp - the honey was a delightful addition pairing with the heat of the chili crisp and the creaminess of the ricotta. our server brought us a second bing so we could get to all of the toppings. * Snap peas - there was maybe a bit too much dressing for my taste but the pea shoots were a nice touch * Bok choy with crispy garbanzo beans - the crispiness of the garbanzo complimented the tender bok choy. the sauce went well with the Iberico! * Iberico - a smaller portion than I expected. But the meat was tender and delicious. They didn't need to do much to enhance the naturally nutty flavor profile of the meat. * Pandan pie - a perfectly light finisher for the meal. I love pandan. The subtle vanilla notes with the grassiness are always a joy.
Be the first to ReplyI had fun here.
Great atmosphere. The food was very good and won't leave you disappointed. Very creative chef-driven menu.
Be the first to ReplyI have to admit that the yelp description of this
I have to admit that the yelp description of this restaurant was pretty accurate; Asian fusion, American, Korean... I'm still trying to figure out what that precipitates to. The restaurant has a great atmosphere; large spaces, high ceilings, open, and airy. It's an industrial space converted to a modern kitchen/dining area. The service was nice too. The hosts as well as the servers were very attentive and pleasant. The food however was less than hyped up to be. In fact the only good thing I had was the bread and butter. The striped bass was overcooked and the sauce was too sweet to complement the fish. The crispy rice and mushroom was also disappointing. A sushi sized crispy rice piece is one thing but an 8" rice cake? With mushrooms? The tuna carpaccio was another plain tasting dish... just soy sauce and a bit of avocado; nothing special. The space makes for a cool hangout spot but the food disappoints. Location: 0/10 Food: 5/10 Atmosphere: 10/10

All I have to say is they're lucky the food was slightly above average. The service was awful and the food came out at a snails pace, even though they make you place your order all at once.

Majordomo is one of six restaurants under David Chang's Momofuku empire, and the only one located in California.Start your meal off with some delicious appetizers like their crispy Stuffed Peppers, Fried Cauliflower, and incredibly fluffy Bing flatbread before digging into some heartier dishes like the rich Macaroni Chickpea which is topped with freshly shredded truffle and the huge pull-apart Smoked Bo Ssam which is accompanied by its own entourage of veggies and sauces so you can construct your own mouth watering lettuce wraps. The fact that this massive piece of pork was boneless absolutely blew our minds.Make sure to come hungry because the portions are generous. This was our first time here but we'll definitely be coming back and pre-ordering their Whole Plate Short Rib since it the signature dish at Majordomo.

Be the first to ReplyThis place was such a beautiful experience.
The ambiance is beautiful and the set up from waiting area to bathroom, support the flow of traffic. I rally enjoyed this. There is a paid lot with plenty of spaces, free street parking is limited. Service is wonderful as is all the food we tried.

Do yourself a favor, get the mushroom rice. You're welcome. Shannon our waiter was the best!!!!
Be the first to ReplyUpon approach you would never think that you were coming to
Upon approach you would never think that you were coming to a fine dinning establishment. I grew up in and around East LA and the East side is not known for its looks or charm, but it's heart. Once you walk into the property you are astonished by the modern design and the beautiful works of art. There are many David Choe pieces scattered about, as well as one of my favorite murals. As I went with a group of my artist friends, I was told that the gorgeous heron in their backroom was a James Jean. If in doubt always ask your servers. These are some of the most knowledgeable front end staff I have ever met. Don't let me fool you like I know shit about cooking, but they can explain every process of the cooking process to you in detail, and they make stellar recommendations. Let me say the bing for apps is a must have. The bing is a bread that I would say reminds me of naan bread, but only in appearance. There is a fluffy, butteriness, that makes this bread just melt in your mouth. Their cultured butter, honey, and black truffle is something I ordered my last time there, and it is such a complex melding of sweet, savory, and umami. The ham is very decadent as well. Thinly sliced, not overly sweet or salty, Just on point. My favorite bing dish is their spicy lamb, this is a seasonal dish that isn't on the menu right now, but buy two orders if you have the chance. The lamb is cooked perfectly and is paired with some pickled veggies and a chili spice that will numb your mouth. This isn't numb in a scorching hot way, but I a nice momentary loss of sensation and control type of way. Maybe one of my favorite things here. Now every single one of their cocktails is decadent and should be savored and enjoyed. I think I have everything on their menu, but the one that always stands out is their Manhattan. I will copy and past the mixture because I will not do it justice - short rib fat-washed rittenhouse rye whiskey, cocchi di torino, rye bonji, bitters. Manhattans already cut that harshness of whiskey that some people are not accustomed to, but the fat washing gives it this full mouth, hearty flavoring. I can not give this a proper review, because it is one of those things you need to try for yourself. Their stuffed peppers are really nice. The little sausages are fatty and flavorful, while the pepper cuts away at that with the heat. Great texture. Now my personal favorite is the crunchy potatoes. Let me say that this is the best version of a potato I have every had. These potatoes have the chili crunch coated on the outside which add a texture aspect to potatoes that I never thought I desired. The chili heat punches it up just to make you wiggle around. The lemon mayo cuts through that heat and provides a refreshing cooling that balances the acids and bases. There is one of those dishes that always stand out and you have every single time and for me that is the Macaroni and Chickpea. In an overly simplified and rudimentary way this is macaroni and cheese, but wait there is no dairy at all! The noddles are done to a certain perfection. The sauce has a musk that makes you think cheese and yet, there is none! Depending on the time of year it will be served with black truffle on top. The service will always stick out once again, because I remember after having the shavings of black truffle on our plate, our server returned and notified us that he didn't serve the proper amount and proceeded to add more. As I have stated, my culinary knowledge is limited to me knowing what I like and why I like it. I would never have known if it needed more or less truffle or if it even made a difference, but the server still came back and put it on. The way you are treated here is unlike anywhere I have ever been. Smoked Half Bo Ssam is the dish you will see in many people's pictures. This is a nice chunk of meat and does it have flavor! I have only ordered it once because I took a group of my friends. We demolished it. I even picked up one of the bones and cleaned it. Don't ever be embarrassed to do that, you paid for it. Now the one that always has gotten me was the boiled chicken. I had wanted to get the wagyu rib cut, but they were out. I reluctantly ordered the chicken. Let me tell you I was taken by this dish. The chicken breast are presented on a bed of rice, the rice has the rendered down chicken fat incorporated into it! Best rice I have ever had. The chicken comes with a red and green chili sauce. The rest of the bird is made into a chicken noodle soup, that is even better the next day.I didn't include pictures of the food pictures because many people have, and this place is more than just food. I leave usually thinking I should have paid more. When you think of the word culinary art, this is the art aspect of it. It is not just a meal, but something that will last with you. Thank you Dave Chang with much love an admiration.
