marcels_dc is one of the restaurants where I celebrated my birthday. The ambiance and service were amazing!!! Honestly, the service was one of the best I've ever experienced. That is due to the waiter Giovanni Scognagianni. He made me feel special and even convinced me to travel to Italy soon. THATS how good he was!!! I truly enjoyed my experience at @marcels_dc. I felt like a celebrity because I had the entire place to myself the ENTIRE time!!! I rated it 4/5 because the food wasn't spectacular. The service was amazing though!!! Here is a list of what I ate. - Drink: Midas Touch -Amuse Bouche- Mushroom cigar - Baby Arugula & Beet Tops, Crรจme Friache, Shaved Marcona Almonds, Pickled Red Onion, Caraway Vinaigrette - Jumbo Lump Crab Tagliatelle - Pan Seared Foie Gras - Boudin Blanc with black winter truffle - Pear & Cream Cheese Mille - feuille

Wonderful place to dine, great people and service with fantastic food. Spent our anniversary there, the drinks are wine was over the top. This is a must go to restaurant for everyone to experience.
Be the first to ReplyMarcel's is one of the finest restaurants in DC.
The food is sophisticated, the service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is elevated but not pretentious. Beyond the scalable, range of savory offerings -- and as someone not typically into sweets -- the dessert/cheese course was mind-blowingly phenomenal. It's no wonder it has survived in the constantly changing DC food scene.

Atmosphere - quite place , nice life piano playing. Great customer service. Dishes mostly have an amazing taste . Some of them just "wow" . Definitely recommend this place .

This is a pretty intimate high-end French restaurant, and the servers give you time to make your decisions before bringing you the food. The service itself is up to par to Michelin starred restaurants, where they will take your coat and offered to take pictures for you when needed, and they will switch dirty utensils for new ones for your meal. The meal itself consists of dishes that were wide-ranging in taste and flavor. Here's what I have: 1. Boudin Blanc: This dish is soft, and I liked how it pairs well with the radish. Not a flavorful or powerful dish, but enough for you to enjoy the original flavors of each component. 7.7/10 2. Pan Seared Foie Gras: I liked how tender and juicy the foie gras is, though it does taste a bit lacking in flavor even when adding cranberry compote and duck jus in it, as it doesn't retain some of the cranberry sweetness that can add on to this. 7.5/10. 3. Halibut: Tenderly fried and prepared, although the beans that go with it doesn't pair well with the fish, adding a stale taste to the juicy halibut. 7/10 4. Prince Edward Island Mussel Gratin: I liked how the gratin contains a creamy tomato taste that pairs well with the mussel and has a bit of a garlic spicing to it, but I noticed that half of it is overcooked and uneven. Overall, not too much of an effect on how delicious this dish is. 8/10. 5. Smoked Squab: The squab tasted burnt, and the rest of the dish doesn't compliment or make the burnt taste go away. In the ideal scenario, only the skin would be fried and the inside would be tender. 2/10. Overall, all of the dishes aren't powerful enough to warrant me for a second seating again in this restaurant despite having no problem with the food except for the squab. I do enjoy my meal though, and overall, the food is 7.5/10, rounded up for the service.

Yelp says they are closed but I called them and can reserve tables. WUT? Please don't go away! Anyway, I came here for fall visit and they were just as charming and the food is wonderful. The ambiance is quiet and sort of old school french. I made friends with my neighbors and took a photo for them. Everyone is friendly here. The food is just a tiny bit adventurous but my game with them is if it sounds good, it is going to be. I've never tried anything here that didn't work. I have cloned things from this place for family and they love them. The smoked trout mousse was wonderful... the scallop is beautiful. The Mussel Gratin is one of my all time faves. Must get the Foie since I can't get it where I live. Will be out to DC in the spring so see you soon.

Question- several friends have been here and had rave reviews. Along with the reviews on this site how is it this place has no Michelin designation (Bib Gormond, fork or Star)? Very interesting.

A fantastic spot to grab a fancy dinner, or even a more affordable fancy happy hour! They have a great patio and bar area for you to enjoy your meal. The team is super friendly and the cocktails are amazing. Burger - My absolute favorite off the happy hour menu. It wasn't super messy to eat and the patty was cooked perfectly. It paired very nicely with a glass of burgandy too. Smoked Trout Dip - Decadent and delicious. It was a pretty large serving and I loved it. Charcuterie Board - Loved the meat selection. Osteria Caviar - Another fanciful bite. Perfect for a celebration Steak Tartare - My second favorite dish of the night. The tartare was as perfect as a tartare can get. Cheese Platter - Great cheese selection. If I had to pick I'd get the cheese platter over the charcuterie. Lemon Madeleines - Perfect way to end this delicious happy hour. I loved the dipping sauces that came with the airy madeleines. I will definitely be back to try out the dinner menu!

I'll start by saying that I was shocked Marcels was fairly empty on a Saturday night. This place is amazing and the service is outstanding. If you're interested in fine dining in DC, this has to be a stop on your list. They have a unique tasting menu style where you choose the number of courses (everyone at the table has to choose the same number) and then each person can choose any items on the menu they would like. No constraints on sweet or savory. Everything my group had was amazing. Some highlights were the squab, the boudin blanc, the foie gras, and the steak. The cheese course and cheese flambรฉ were both interesting and delicious. The chocolate mousse was rich but not overwhelming. Our server was perfect. Knowledgeable, friendly, interested, and engaging. Such a wonderful experience. I have many restaurants on my list, but would happily come back to Marcel's.
Be the first to ReplyAlways love going here.
Great food, helpful staff and a warm greeting for returning patrons. It's lovely and deserves all of the accolades.
Be the first to ReplyA really solid, DC staple! I am so happy.
I finally got to try this restaurant. It is definitely upscale and cozy inside and a huge place, but was fairly empty on a Sunday evening. It is definitely that formal kind of feeling and the staff is very attentive. The food was great, but not amazing. Hence the four stars. I like that you can do a tasting that is not overwhelming and get to sample a variety of different things! Each serving size is pretty small and just a few bites. However, you are left satiated.I tried the scallop, which was really good, and just one scallop, but not incredible. I really loved the mussels because the sauce that they were soaking in was a tiny bit spicy and packed with a whole lot of cheesy and tomato flavor. Next I tried the halibut which was deliciously flaky while still being tender. I also like the gnocchi, but I prefer the fish over the gnocchi because they only give you about five pieces of the pasta, and the mushrooms were a little bit hard with this dish. For the main entrรฉes, I tried the strip steak, which was only three small pieces, but cooked to perfection and the potato purรฉe that they serve with a steak as well as the sauce was totally delicious! I also tried a small bite of venison, and while I do not like venison, I will say that this was not gamey at all and very good quality meat.To finish with the dessert I tried the pumpkin dish and the chocolate cake. Both servings were very small but the pumpkin dish had a very weird sauce that they called maple syrup with it but it did not taste like that. Parts of this dessert were really cold, so I didn't love it. The chocolate cake was good and pretty rich! I will definitely come back here .

Still outstanding and interesting with a playfulness and creativity that has often been there but now seems more prominently featured. I'm still holding out for Robert to bring back their iconic soufflรฉs...

My wife and I went here for our anniversary and have been often in the past but it has been a while. The place is still outstanding and the food is amazing. We also had a great waiter by the name of Vinny who made the evening that much more enjoyable.

Best French in Town! Period!Attentive Services, Exceptional Delicious Every Single Dish! We Came Back to Indulge Ourselves at least a couple of times every year! Boudin Blanc is MUST-HAVE, Today's Duck & Lamb, Scallop, Mussels are also Amazingly Tasteful!
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite tasting restaurants.
Delicious food and fantastic design and presentation. Lovely place to go on a very nice date. Even though the portions are small you are likely to get your fill with 5-6 courses if you don't eat very much. Myself, I was still a bit hungry after 6 courses but the quality of food was well worth it and you don't come here to get full; you come for the experience and that is exactly what you are served. Awesome service besides the fact the waiter spilled wine over one of our family members and did not even apologize. Still had great knowledge of dishes and was accommodating. Would come again when they have a different tasting menu.Favorite dishes were the Wagyu, Battered Blossom, and Boudin Blanc. The squab was interesting, very distinct flavor similar to duck.

We ordered a special tasting menu for the graduation celebration. One highlight was a pigeon breast, it was done quite well and tasted great so recommended to try. Service was really good as well.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service.
Really loved the bread and the wine was delicious (I don't drink but had a sip from my friend's glass). The fois gras was my favorite. We had the five course meal. If I came back I wouldn't do dessert and instead do the cheese plate. The front desk person was a bit abrupt. I came in after having just had a pedicure and he wouldn't seat me with slippers so I had to put on my shoes and ruin my pedicure. Really upset about that but the meal was great. Wouldn't come back after that experience though because it was a time consuming and expensive pedicure that now I have to find a time to redo.
Be the first to ReplyWe were a party of 4, going out to celebrate a graduation.
We pre-paid the 400 dollars required for 7PM reservation for a party of 4. Let's start with not being seated in the main dining room. Instead we were seated in the bar area at the table nearest to the restrooms, even though the restaurant was empty and remained empty throughout our entire 3 hour meal ordeal. We were treated like second class citizens. Not prioritize throughout our meal. We had to be animated and vocal to get the attention of the wait staff. Our expectation for a Michelin starred restaurant, is to receive a superb meal with service to match. Given that we ordered the 6 course meal, we expected the delivery of the courses to be well orchestrated for a satisfying meal. Instead we waited 30 or more minutes for the early courses, only when closing time approached, did the wait between courses reduced to be a little less than 30 minutes. If you are going to stretch out each course, then there should be offerings to cleanse the palate, none was offered. Bread was not offered throughout the meal, even though some of the courses required bread to get the most out of the dish. Needless to say for a $200.00 per plate dinner, it was a very disappointing meal. My advice to anyone that will patron this establishment, be prepared to be underwhelmed. Would not recommend.
