Mariel Boston Reviews from The Last Year
Amazing food with big city glamour.
What a wonderful experience this place is. Visually stunning rooms, beautiful people and amazing food. My favorite is the Cubano flatbread but then this was the first time I had dessert…wow, wow, wow Flan was wonderful and the “star” dessert was a crispy crunchy fruit filled pastry along with ice cream. Tiki Daquiris were a frozen delight. People around us seemed to know a secret specialty drink display that included multiple glasses, flaming elements served on some sort of “tree”…. Looked like such fun.
DAMN THIS WAS GOOD.
..in Boston for business and we were hungry for something different. Found this place in the vicinity of the office. Juan Carlos, our waiter, made us feel right at home - recommend several things, spoke to us as if we have been friends forever. The yuca cheese ball appetizer came out and the only negative thing about them is that it was only four - they melt in your mouth and are so savory. My colleague got the flounder and I got the chicken arepa and OMG! Each bite was a little piece of heaven and the after taste was even better. Those cooks out did themselves back there. The portion was not too much but not too little - it was just right. Highly recommend this restaurant - ambience was gorgeous, wait staff was friendly and polite and the food was spot on DELICIOUS.
Beware - this place sketchy.
I have now had two horrible experiences with them demanding money for things I didn't want/receive. The first time I went here, I went with a group of friends for a 9:30 reservation hoping to get drinks before heading downstairs. But when we arrived they informed us that we HAD to order food (even though it was late) and that it couldn't just be appetizers. So we were forced to spend $100 extra on pizzas that no one wanted and were also BAD. A couple years later I thought maybe I'd have a better experience giving it a second try. I made a reservation for what I thought was later one evening, but then never received any confirmation of it. The reservation was through some bootleg website platform (not resy or opentable) so there was no way for me to see that I did have a reservation. So I assumed it did not go through and went elsewhere. It wasn't until the *next* day that I received a text telling me I had a reservation for that night (the day after I meant to make the reservation). But at this point, it was within the 12 hr cancellation period and they said they had to charge me $200 to cancel it. So anyways, they're just a really cheap place with sketchy business strategies, poor service and bad food. There's so many other places in Boston 1000x better than here- just skip it.
This is the kind of restaurant where you aren't really
This is the kind of restaurant where you aren't really paying for high quality food as much as you are paying for an instagrammable setting, theatrical menu items (I will discuss later), and overall very specific atmosphere. To begin, I have to give credit where credit is due: the restaurant itself is really beautiful. High ceilings, stunning chandeliers, grandiose architecture, swanky lighting, edgy yet classic decor, etc. If you look at the photos on here, I would find it hard for someone to disagree. However, while the ambiance is really something unique, the food and drink fall short. It wasn't bad per say, but it was just SO overpriced for small portions and honestly mediocre quality. I think it's easy to get wrapped up in the space to feel like the food actually tastes just as good, but I found it simply alright. I went there and for four people we paid $300. I would sooner go to Barcelona Wine Bar where I pay roughly $40 for myself for better and more food. So while the atmosphere is really lovely, I honestly felt a bit swindled by the quality of food and drink for the price I paid and won't be going back. However, if you are someone who really cares about atmosphere and vibe and are willing to pay extra for that, and you don't care as much about value and actual food quality, then I could see Mariel being a solid choice.
Was our 2nd time there.
Food was amazing and really great atmosphere. Randy, our server, was absolutely phenomenal. He was funny, attentive and also incredibly helpful and sensitive to a gluten allergy from one of our party. He made us feel very welcome. 5/5 would go again.
This spot never misses.
Been here multiple times, and the food and drinks are always amazing. I never been downstairs, but the ambiance is fabulous. It's so pretty inside and music is bumpin'. Definitely a spot to enjoy and chit chat.

They stop giving out free tap water in the basement past a certain point and charge $5 for a small bottle of Fiji. That should be ILLEGAL!!!!!
Cute place to take pictures but the food isn't something
Cute place to take pictures but the food isn't something I'd come here for. We ordered -chorizo pizza: nothing special, pretty average pizza. -fried calamari: probably my favorite thing we ordered. Crispy and has a nice sauce -coconut flan: a little too sweet -ice cream dessert: my friend ordered this but she didn't like it -drinks: we had to get these remade because they tasted a little off? Service was very slow.
I wouldn't go there again .
The portion of the food was way too small even for tapas style and OVERPRICED . The service was terrible. Management didn't help either when issues were brought up about one of their staff members being disrespectful towards women, management said that they would talk to this particular staff member , but I hope that if they do or did talk to them that changes are made in this particular staffs behavior because it wasn't only once that we were disrespected it was twice. That is unacceptable ! To whoever is reading this do not go.
I went here to celebrate my friend's birthday.
It was a very vibey space though a little too dark. We got a bunch of things to share (tapas style) and most were very good. They also have an amazing drink selections including a few nonalcoholic options. The service was good, they would periodically check in with us and would bring out our food as they were ready. Really recommend for a nice dinner out!

Excellent Latin restaurant
Excellent food, service, ambience and cocktails. What more could you ask for?! Enjoyed the shrimp pizza, mojitos and other cocktail that I can’t remember the name of… Give this place a try! I stopped because I love Latin food. So glad I stopped in for the food and experience.
Fabulous dining experience in Boston
Dining at Mariel is an experience you don’t want to miss while in Boston. It has it all - beautiful decor, a lively vibe, and extraordinary food. We ordered a lot of small plates that were all delicious but our favorite was the gnocchi. I will definitely be coming back next time I am in Boston.

Mariel aesthetically is one of the best places to eat it is gorgeous inside and everything is served very beautifully. The service was decent our food came out quickly and she was attentive. The food was decent as well the servings here are small so you will need to order multiple plates to leave full. The pizza wasn't anything that wowed me but it was decent, the avocado con mojo tasted very fresh and had a lot of flavor which I really enjoyed. Fufu gnocchi was also very delicious. I ordered the Celia drink it wasn't my favorite because it tasted too spicy ( my personal preference). Overall Mariel is a good experience and I would come back.

Unfortunately Mariel underground was not the experience my friends and I were hoping for. We only came for the club, so maybe the restaurant is a better experience. The strobe lights were incredibly intense the minute you walked in, and as somebody with sensory difficulties I was frustrated that there was no warning about the strobe lights before paying for a ticket. Unless you buy a table (for $1000+) there is no room to dance or mingle, my friends and I were stuck in a corner awkwardly. This was not a place for a casual, fun night out.
Disappointing special occasion
My husband and I booked an early dinner at Mariels as a special treat for our anniversary. We had been there before for brunch and had been very impressed with the food, restaurant decor, and service. Not so last Saturday night, where we were made to wait for 25 minutes while they attempted to end an afternoon event. When we were finally seated the dining room had not been set up properly or cleaned. It was very loud and people were still milling around after the previous event. We had someone literally sweeting a broom around our feet as we sat and attempted to enjoy our evening. The food was generally good, but small and rather overpriced, and the server at one point tried to remove my husband's plate before he had finished eating. Overall not the best dining experience or the best anniversary meal we’ve ever had!
I came here with a girlfriend the other night.
I made a reservation for 8:30 because we wanted to stay for drinks after dinner. When I came in there was a coat check which is always nice. Even though we had a reservation for 8:30 they didn't seat us till 9 which was a bit frustrating. However once we were seated they promptly took our drink order. I had 4 different drinks here all of which were outstanding. Definitely the highlight of the night. We ordered a few small and medium plates. The best dishes were the chicken rots and the plantain gnocchi. The crab dish was also really good. I think the guac and empanadas were good but nothing to write home about. The ambiance inside is very up beat, as the night goes on the place turns more into a bar with the club downstairs so it's a perfect place for a girls night out.

On a recent trip to Boston, a friend of mine took me to Mariel. The ambiance is nice and has a Spanish flair to it. It was around 6:30 on a Wednesday night. The place seems to be a place where people go to be seen. We had a reservation and were seated right away. It was quite busy for a week night. The wait staff was attentive and nice. All the dishes we had were fabulous. I recommend the scallops and the shrimp. The mojito was strong and made well. The desserts were okay. Stick with the food and drinks. I would definitely go again.

Wonderful experience! Randy our waiter was amazing -- I have a gluten allergy and he was so knowledgeable and we had an incredible time! Ambiance was top notch. Will definitely come back. Yummy food!
The interior of this restaurant is beautiful.
I went here in the summer with a party of six and ordered the pitcher cocktail with the flames on top. It was great for a girls night experience. I only docked a star because the bouncers were very rude and made it difficult for us to join our reserved table.
Loved the food, service and vibe at Mariel.
Great place to celebrate all types of occasions! Sincerely, Elvin R.
First time at Mariel's.
Amazing experience! Like the previous review - The vibe, atmosphere, service, and food 10/10, even on a packed friday night. This will be the go-to spot in Boston. We will return with friends.
Birthday family meal
Fabulous location, modern and sophisticated inside. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. The food was superb. We started with the the sharing fondue, piping hot and so tasty with lots of fresh veg, meats, and bread to dip The small plates were excellent, my favourite was the crispy lamb ribs. Our daughter in law whose birthday it was had the hot chocolate for dessert! Amazingly prepared and tasted delicious! Will definitely return
Vibe, atmosphere, service, and food 10/10.
For dinner we ordered the yuca cheese puffs, hamachi crudo, pork empanadas, fufú dumplings (plantain dumplings), lobster pizza, corn and crab arepitas, and the steak churrasco. All the food is tapas-style, so smaller portions and you can order quite a few to sample! The yuca cheese puffs and the fufú gnocchi were by far my favorite dishes, but everything was very tasty. These 2 were unique flavor combinations I haven't had before, and it all just worked! I really enjoyed all of the tapas. I came early on a Monday night and sat at a high top near the front bar. Despite the restaurant being packed, service was friendly, was on top of checking in with our table, and our food came out fast. Did not see this "club" vibe everyone talks about (think that may be later in the evening), but it was still lively and fun. I will definitely be back!
Cuisine did not match the design
We visited Mariel for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant is beautiful with a very cool design and super high ceilings. The apps of cheese puffs, empanadas and key lime calamari were great, better than the entrees. The table ordered the Cubano, blackened fish sandwich, rice bowl and brisket burger. All were OK, sandwiches served with homemade potato chips. Service started strong but got real slow. Would think twice about returning.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
